Launcher problem - Vibrant General

I'm running nero v3 with voodoo, and having a weird issue. Don't believe it's the rom though. Anyway, I've noticed I now have a program called launcher running when I go to task manager, and if I close it, all my icons on my maun page disappear, and it loads the stock icons. Even with a reboot, it boots the stock icons. It's a pain because I have to put my icons back. Any idea what's going on?

You should always have some sort of "launcher' running. Thats what controls the app drawer and everything else. Dont kill it.

Yeah, but it wasn't running when I first instilled the rom. I trend to close things with task manager, and I sometimes accidentally close it. Is there a way to get back my icons if I do?

Do you mean you have customized icons instead of he stock ones?
You should always have a launcher active.

No, I just mean I place beautiful widgets, and all the icons I normally use, and when I accidentally close launcher, all icons I placed on my desktop are gone, and I have to place them all back. It's a pain. I know I should just not kill the launcher, but I accidentally close it when I close other programs.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Okay, now my icons come back when I close launcher. Weird, but just glad I don't have to place them again.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

If you only have one launcher and kill it with tasker operations on launcher will forced to start again. Install backup launcher with your widgets as well ; )
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Launcher is like touchwiz. It is the interface. If you kill it it wilk have to start again and takes more battery.
Nero v3 does not have tw unless you dl that version.
So you are not allowing the interface controlling your os to be there. Your essentially killing the controls to ur phone.

Widgets won't update?

I've been having a problem with my widgets updating, just started yesterday. I'm using adw launcher, and the only thing that's changed in the last few days was that I uninstalled atk. Anyone else had this problem? I'd really like for my clock to work.

are you using Beautiful Widgets?
I use LauncherPro and I recently just noticed this with beautiful widgets...
My Facebook widget updates just fine. As does my FlightTrack widget.
it's annoying how you can't use the touchwiz feeds and updates widget on the adw launcher. Would be so much nicer!
I'm using Digital Clock Widget, but it's not just the clock. My tunewiki won't change (though the button presses register) and BatteryLife still says 100%.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
odd. I updated my beautiful widgets app and now my clock widget is working fine again.
Maybe it's the app. Or maybe it's something a simple reboot can fix.
Already rebooted twice, doesn't help. I'll reinstall the widgets, I suppose, and if that doesn't fix it, I'll do adw as well.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
So I changed over to Launcher Pro to see if that fixes it, and it did. I really like ADW launcher better, but I figure I'll wait until a new update rolls out to grab it again. I miss the ability to assign the swipes on the screen to stuff (specifically the notification bar so I can hide it), and just swiping on the dock is not as useful. But widgets working is more important, frankly.
Stop using a task killer and you should be just fine. Had the same problem.

i just uninstalled my task killer and that did the trick. now i just use the built-in process/app killer when needed.
Actually, it seems that stopping using a task killer is what caused the problem. I had ATK on there for 2 weeks, no problems, uninstalled because I really didn't need it, and that's when the problems started. I certainly won't be putting it back on, that's for sure.
I had the similar issues with beautiful widgets and awd, and I thought it might've been my juice defender since it disables the data while the phone sleeps. But when I uninstalled juice defender (didn't really notice the difference in battery life with or without it) I was still having the issues. So I switched back to LP and widgets are updating properly so far.

RubiX rom launcher help

Love the rom but, the only thing is that the launcher bar at the bottom has the default apps . Anyone know how to change it?

Can you explain a little more? What are you looking for it to have?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Well at the bottom of the homescreen there is like a taskbar that has four apps . Gtalk, dialer, browser ,and email. I want to personalize the apps to stuff that I use more. Like market, sms, etc.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
To change the bottom dock you can download a different launcher from the market. I'd recommended Launcher Pro, or ADW. I personally recommend Launcher Pro. You can customize the homescreens and the dock itself.
Hey thanks, launcher pro did the trick! I wanted the 3d app drawer so that worked out very well!!

(Hint) Touchwhiz Launcher

I don't know if anyone has posted this but I found a little trick that made me say "well duh that makes sense."
So I actually like the touchehiz launcher but was having a tough time keeping my apps straight with the new 2.3.3 version as it only allows an editable grid or alphabetical list. I tried adding an old modded version but got a force close. When I restored all my apps were alphabetical in a grid view again. I went about moving the apps around and then went to settings/application/all and cleared the data of TWLauncher and my apps are again alphabetical.
The downfall of doing this is you lose your Widgets but after awhile its the easiest way to clean up the app drawer.

Dude I know a lot of new people here will be delighted to know that but that has been known since anyone posted about wanting to rearrange apps in apps drawer. Nice though that you have the courage to post it again.
Well I may have just forgotten since I've become so accustomed to the modded tw launcher and know that we don't yet have a modded version for GB. I'm sure there is more than one or two frustrated trying to keep all their apps in order right now.

Go dig yourself a hole under that ungrateful bridge of yours.
Well know one, but the best method is download an app in market which can sort the Twlauncher in alphabetical order without cleaning the widget together.
It is call TouchWiz Application Sorter
+1 for the Application Sorter

Problems with every rom

I've tried many different roms such as jvo, jvh, jvp and jvq. I've tried darkys, juwes, gingerreal , f1, insanity and miui but they all have these problems after the phone has been 'up' for over a day. When I exit a game using home or back my launcher restarts.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
The same game and the same launcher always : maybe are not compatible.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
You are using tw launcher ? If not, you should check your task killer program. Maybe you got the option "stAy in ram". If yes, choose it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175514&highlight=launcher+restarts
I havent tried the stuff in this thread but it is interesting, and on the second page, there is a posted .apk that apparently solves it..
Like saphirrot said, if the launcher has a 'stay in mem' option, check it. I've done that with Launcher Pro and the launcher restart happens far far less.
It's just android freeing up ram for the game. It's a pain in the ass but better than not being able to run a game because of low memory.

I use super manager or astro manager. They have app managers and allow you to install .apk files. Super manager is great if you have root access as you can uninstall bloatware apps like aldiko, layar etc. Make sure to backup app just in case anything goes wrong.

I use AppInstaller. Very simple.
Thanks guys I installed the apk and my launcher no longer restarts but apps still close even when I go off them using the home button so I can return to them in a minute and be where I left it. Is there any apk for this as it is frustrating when you go off an app for a minute only to find it's closed when u go back on it.

Actually the apk hasn't worked. Launcher is still rebooting when I go back to the home screen.

Nothing is wrong. It's running out of memory. Android shall release background tasks if foreground tasks need the memory. Since Gingerbread, you can no longer force most things to stay in memory so those features are mostly useless these days. Should have kept to one ROM and asked your question in its thread. Too many things to suggest to tune it properly really. Uninstalling system apps you don't use and trying different kernels are your last options.

This is completely unacceptable then, you can't even multitask. And after the phone has been 'up' for over 12 hours you can't even keep the dialer in memory! There must be a way around this. A smartphone should not take over 3 seconds to open the dialer.

I have never seen this problem before, and since it so several I have to assume that if other people had it, they would have posted about it.
That means that it is either due to a problem with your hardware, or due to something you are installing/configuring. I would do a full factory default then add apps back very slowly, one by one, doing some basic testing in between. That way you may be able to isolate the problem.
If it still happens right after the factory reset, take the phone to a service center.

I have seen people talk about it but the answers are since gingerbread apps get closed because of memory meaning that the dialer doesn't even stay in memory after the phone has been booted.for a while.

How do I delete unwanted apps from nook cm7

Just wondering how I can remove messaging, phone, and camera from my girlfriends nook on cm7 running from sd card. I cant find the system apps bookmark like I can on any other phone/tablet
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Answer.
To bring that back, you hold on the screen, tap on Launcher Actions, tab Open/close App Drawer, and there you go! Access to your apps, where you can delete them!
Thanks for the answer but I meant delete them permanently from the nook. The phone app just wastes battery and since you cant message and take pics she wants em gone

If you are rooted I would suggest installing TI (Titanium Backup-free) and freeze the app. Sometimes nuking out apps that have interdependency can create problems. Freezing the app in TI should accomplish what you desire safely.
I believe the phone app was proven to not use the battery?
Like cell standby and phone idle under battery use was false.
Oh thanks to the both of you ill do the titanium backup thing but does it remove it from the app drawer?

Gosh. Been a while since I froze an app. I don't believe so. But as it's frozen, unless you have a butt-load of apps and scrolling through them is an issue, it really shouldn't matter. IMO.
Well to me it doesnt matter but my girlfriend is just ocd enough to care lol

My wife is the same way, and was getting irritated that they were in her way. I ended up installing Go Launcher EX and then was able to create a Folder in the App Drawer called SYSAPPS. I put all the unwanted system apps in there and they were out of her way. Cleaned the app drawer up nicely. Not sure if another launcher will do that, but knew Go Launcher could. She likes it now.

Using LauncherPro, you can hide any app you want. Just go
"Preferences->General Settings->Hidden Apps", choose the ones you want to hide, tap "save" and they're out of your way.
No need to go through switching launchers. or creating new catalogs. if you freeze them with titanium backup, they will disappear from the app drawer.
Don't turn off google talk, even if you don't use it. google talk must be working in order for the market to function. some other apps, if they arent installed, will filter the availability of certain apps in the market, although I am not sure if that is effected by freezing or not.
On a side note, I have read the threads about the telephone and message apps supposedly not effecting battery life, and they do spins reasonable, but I an beginning to question if theyv are right. I definitely have processes related to unused phone apsa running on my nook using memory.
The android.telephony process is shown to be running in several running apps lists, and is using 2.3 MBA of ram. I am just starting to wonder, is all...
I use both methods mentioned previously. Organize my app drawer using Go Launcher and freeze, as well as backup apps with Titanium. It's also well worth the money if you like to try different roms or tinker but don't want to loose your apps or their data.
