WanHu's rom Froyo Translations Making - Milestone XT720 Android Development

Hi all.
So, i'm currently translating WanHu's rom to russian.
Here some problems that i get:
Settings.apk - signature failed, added translations with 7za -mx0
Contacts.apk, Phone.apk, TelephonyProvider - right now don't translated - translations get phone module to stop working.
For language settings:
in build.prop:
Code:
ro.product.locale.language=ru
ro.product.locale.region=RU
To change locale from terminal/add shell:
Code:
setprop persist.sys.language ru;
setprop persist.sys.country RU

Translating kitchen
Hi all. I write that kit for translate apk and framework-res.apk to russian language.
You can use it for your own lang.
What you need to do:
Kit consist from folders:
apk - it's point where all apk's on foreigh language are kept.
apk-trans - it's point where kept language files with suck path: ApkName/res/values-ru(where ru - your lang)
frame-trans - it's point where kept translation to framework-res.apk.
framework - it's point where kept original framework-res.apk
newpatch - skel for new patch.
signed - points where "signed" apk are holds
tools - tools..
unsigned - points where "unsigned" apk not holds
kitchen.sh - main file.
How to use it:
Move your apps to apk folder.
Move your apps translations to apk-trans
Move your framework-res.apk to framework
move framework-res tranlation to frame-trans
Now good luck and type:
sh kitchen.sh
If there will be errors - then something goes wrong with:
a) tools
B) your translations
But errors doesn't mean something goes wrong(sometimes it is.. but...)
Good luck for everyone with that kit.
Hope it helps someone.
P.S. RusMod and RusMod 2.0(WanHu rom) are translated with that kitchen for 100% on russian.

can you tell me that if i can translate into Myanmar (Burmese) language ? or font i just wanna let the phone appears the sms and setting menu in Burmese (Myanmar font)
Burmese font are like this www.mizzimaburmese.com (you'll have to install Zawgyi font to see the correct Burmese language)

Yes, you can translate it.
Ofcouse you will need to set Zawgyi fonts.
But that won't be a problem for translaiting.
But, this kitchen don't catch errors, it created to build patch.zip with all apks, that could be compiled.
So first - try to compile every app for yourself - if there will be no errors - that
you may create patch, after that - make nandroid - and here you rom with Myanmar language

About 1/2 way through Fr and Es....
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GB61CDAV
Since your the going to do it your self type Thanks btw,
Will the patch add the lang or replace, i would like to eventually put out a complete ROM nandroid With Kor Ru En Fr Es Cn language toguether is that possible in one patch?
I think i know what to do...
But any way you da man!

Will see, i may try to add all languages..
But it won't be selectable in settings.apk.
You will need or use commands from first post or use app like morelocale to change lanuage.

updated fjKit with beta of apktool, cause get some errors with some apks.
http://xt720.ru/DexTrans - Translation files from Dexter 1.3.
Will use them for translating Wanhu.
>> you tried adding to build prop i'm sure i don't see what would be missing... yet
build.prop works only for one language.
So we should redist nandroids for every lang.
Or give people patch..
Or use morelocale2 - better...
To add lang as system locale(to get it in settings.apk) we should recompile framework from source...

http://xt720.ru/Files/other/trans_patch.zip
Waiting for report about how it works.
First version.
No build.prop or either - so to choose your language use program morelocale2 from market.

Working on translations French, German and Dutch all choosable from the language menu. If you provide russian language files i can compile them 2 in the framework-res for you 2. Tested and working framework and settings.apk only had 2 remove Khals blue theme icons or else you get compilation errors have replaced them with the originals.

[APP] S2TT²

This thread is made from S2 Mini Config Applications thread because of dropping all other applications.
The main project is S2TT² app, which is designed to aid in translation of S2 applications by A_C (mainly S2U2).
S2TT² requires MS .NET Framework 2.0 to work.
Current version of S2TT² is 2.0.1.4. You can get it from here: View attachment 211681
If you want to translate S2TT² into other languages, here is English language prototype: View attachment English.zip
This is a language class written in C#. You can use Notepad for translating it.
Current version includes three languages:
* English (Default) [by me]
* Russian [by me]
* Italian [by millo1978]
Changes since 2.0.1.2:
* new lang: Italian
* new string: s_HumourPhrase (just for fun)
* some minor fixes
Screenshot:
Application in work.
the attachments are not working dude
I was reuploading them at that time. Sorry.
Thanks
Can also please add some screeshot of this app ?
Already done.
thanks
Very goooooood!
Thanks for your wonderful work
Only one thing...
first time I choose Italian Language and I see in File Menu "none" ...not "nessuno".
after, I Choose Template and then Clear Template and I see now the correct "nessuno" ...
strange!

[CAB] Chinese support(CHS font only now) for Artermis ROM [UPDATED 02-May-2010]

Hi all,
This post is about getting the orginal WWE Asia HTC HD2's font into Artermis ROM.
1) Install the attached cab
2) Soft reset
Note 1: I only tested in fresh ROM environment, which is V10,V11
Note 2: These files are taken from RUU_Leo_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.66.707.1_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe
One step closer to stock ROM "Philosophy"

Hi all,

I have tried various cabs before like ricky, RobRedbeard- LIA, sunglobe etc... and i have no idea what are the cabs actually doing. some of them even replaced the original wince.nls, create some junk reg keys, make chinese font in some app overlapping...
Here is the safer technique to get chinese font support without messing around with the system files and registry.
1) Download the attached zip file and extract to your storage card
2) Copy UCSH00B-gray.ttf to \windows
3) Import this registry file, SystemLink.reg
4) Soft reset

looking forward to your findings mate. cheers
temporary solution
I just tested with artermis v10 with the following
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6295918#post6295918
steps
1) download the attachment then extract all the files to a temp folder on your desktop
2) go files folder, copy & paste EzInputSettings.exe.0804.mui then rename the new file to EzInputSettings.exe.0409.mui
3) copy all the dll files from those folder name end with .ddl to parent folder (../files). you can skip HTCSipSrvc.dll
4) now go to your device, change SIP to other. change home to titanium
5) go to /windows folder and rename those dll file with same name you modified on your desktop temp folder to xxxx.dll.old( total is 11 files)
6) copy the temp folder on your desktop to your HD2
7) use total commander to move all the files inside files folder to /windows, replace all the dll & files (must make sure no overwrite error)
8) import app.reg
9) soft reset
Finally stock rom chinese support in WWE rom
Now just waiting for a kind soul to help to convert this into cab
UPDATE: Only pinyin and stroke is working...
ABOVE SOLUTION IS UNSUPPORTED NOW

i replaced the wince.nls, but nothing happened. i still dont get the 5 chinese regions in regional settings. also, can you check if your first post method works for google maps 4.1? in google maps, under settings, speech language, there is an option for mandarin. all i get are square boxes.. it should write chinese language, in mandarin of course. any fix for this?

Maybe try the following:
- rename the existing wince.nls to wince.nls.old then copy the new one.
- inside your registry... remove this key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\FontLink\SystemLink] then import the reg file from 1st post, if everything ok, only 5 entries will be recreated as following
"HelveticaNeue LT 35 Thin"="\\windows\\UCSH00B-gray.ttf,AR CrystalHeiU20 Bold(gray);\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Helvetica Neue OTS"="\\windows\\UCSH00B-gray.ttf,AR CrystalHeiU20 Bold(gray);\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
"Courier New"="\\windows\\UCSH00B-gray.ttf,AR CrystalHeiU20 Bold(gray)"
"Tahoma"="\\windows\\UCSH00B-gray.ttf,AR CrystalHeiU20 Bold(gray)"
"AR CrystalHeiU20 Bold(gray)"="\\windows\\tahoma.ttf,Tahoma"
remember to soft reset ... then enjoy the new font

replacing the wince.nls directly doesn't work. You need to use it with reloadnls.exe which will have to be in the startup folder. do a search for it and you will find your answers. I used to write a thread for this as well, so you can try to search for it.

please pm to me to show your request in order to let me work on it ( I am currently using the second method )

[Q]HOWTO cook multiple languages?

You may or may not know, for every ROM I release, I release my Kitchen along with it, more and more I'm being asked to support other languages... However problem I have I'm not sure how to...
Currently I'm utilising the vistang visual kitchen.
I have made several test ROMs for the Russian language, but I'm getting problems where not everything is in Russian, and a lot of blank spaces.
http://www.vbnfiles.com/xda/birkoffsjunk/Chucky/Test ROMs/
The process I've done so far is :
Downloaded and sorted Da_G's 21563 rollup
Replaced 'initflashfiles.dat' with the Russian version
Unchecked all non Russian langs in the sys (_skip)
Changed WWE to RUS in the kitchen options of vistang (ROM Complex tab)
Changed locale to 0419
Included reg file setting Russian regional settings
Am I doing something wrong? Missing a step or two?
Anyway, ideally I'd love to have this support European Langs, Russian, & Chinese within the one ROM/Kitchen.
TIA for any help!
Did you also port 0419 EXT side of things?
The system being set up for 0419, it won't read the 0409's in there, resulting in blank fields etc
Hi,
Also app.dat files in your EXT packages you need to direct to the language specific location. (example 'program files' WWE, 'programma bestanden' NLD etc..)
What I do is placing a app.dat for every language in the specific folder 0409, 0419 etc..
Some packages also have shortcut that direct to 'program files' (wwe example), you need to edit those shortcuts too so they direct to Windows. You can open the shortcuts with a texteditor.

Thanks for the replies, looks increasingly like a hell of a lot of work
Plan was to release a kitchen that makes it easier for people to builld ROMs for their own language... but the amount of work vs time available to me, pretty much rules out me doing this

I gave it up for now, as it's way too much work for 1 extra language and i'd want to do multiple ones

However the kitchen may be (i use OsK), it's still a lot of work to:
- Extract all xxxx language packs from sys and ext, for every language
- Edit every initflashfiles.dat to fit your rom, for every language
But hey once it's done it's done
Edit: in the end it was easier than i expected
i ported NL (0413) to my kitchen entirely (almost)
Path is like this: "\Windows\Startmenu\Programma's\..." but my own ext's i left to 0409 format and it'll still shows in the start menu didn't think it would
Well yea, but OsKitchen is easier for non chefs to use
I really like how users can say..... can you translate your new rom .... OMG Damn... so i tried to translate every MUI in the apps that i cant find another lang sme works some others... dont.
already done with almost all... but you know... new ext pkgs new translate app.dat, app.reg with paths, lnk's, muis, pics.... themes... and so much more....
so if you want to cook in multilangs i suggest you one thing... every EXT or OEM PKG you got translate it imediately cause then... you will have so much work to do

I'm not sure what did you mean by "language files". Before the expert -- capychimp, answer your question, you might want to try the followings:
1. go grab a copy of Rogers Magic stock 2.1 rom with root.
2. go grab a copy of RCMagic v2.0
3. use kitchen to create a working directory based on stock 2.1 rom
4. deodex all apk files
5. extract RCMagic v2.0
6. compare any apk file in /system/app/ or /system/framework/ (one from kitchen's working directory and another from RCMagic v2.0)
7. let's assume that A.apk from kitchen is renamed as stock-A.apk and A.apk from RCMagic is rename as RC-A.apk
8. use apktool to decode both apk files
9. after decoding, check out stock-A/res/values* and RC-A/res/values*. As far as I know, values/* are for English and, take zh_TW (Traditional Chinese) as an example, values-zh-rTW/* are for Traditional Chinese.
So, I guess you can create a values-XXXX for your language code and put whatever needed into values-XXXX/*

to make it easier, you have 84 apks you need to decode to make a full sense rom multilanguage
Google has some good resources on this topic. I can't find them right now but I am finding some interesting stuff.
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/resources/localization.html
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/web/localizing-android-apps-draft
well thats the apks thats the same for all roms, but how to activate them on aosp no idea, cause in sense you do it in CID/default.xml
I have an Hebrew apk, I unpacked it using apktool.
I got the Hebrew xml file, so I think I'm set, but to translate 84 apk's to make a full Hebrew Android, WOW that's alot !!!
I've attached a flashable ZIP with apk's in Hebrew (I didn't do it).
Is this the only whey to translate Android, or is there a EZer way to do it ?
p.s. thanks for the reply and help...
i am working on a script so you can just unpack a rom, and by menu select to make it ml
well i see you have some of it, but still alot to go
and you would need the rtl support in framework.jar also
In Froyo with a little help from a guide I get RTL in Internet and SMS.
So I think I have full RTL...
Tell me which files do I need to translate and we will work together on this...
O.K, I have the .xml files that I need to translate.
I know there is a program for translating file.po (value on one side and translation on the other side)

Hi:
This is extracted from a conversation on cyanogenmod forum:
Locales are controlled by arrays.xml and strings.xml in framework and individual higher level packages (example: cmparts.apk)
Using CMparts.apk as an example once more: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_CMParts/tree/froyo/res
In that folder, you will note 'values-xy', where xy = the locale specified. 'xy' follows ISO standards, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes
If your language exists (I will use es/Spanish for this) then, https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_CMParts/blob/froyo/res/values-es/strings.xml is the file you would specifically alter.
If your language does NOT already exist, copy the US language folder 'values-en', rename it according to ISO standards to 'values-xy' where xy = your country/language, then proceed to translate the strings.xml and necessary components of arrays.xml
You would continue this process (theoretically) for every strings.xml in the CM source.
Once done, submissions should go to gerrit http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Howto:_Gerrit

You have to look if your regional language is defined in teh ISO standard. If it dows not exists, then you will not be able to add that language, as it is considered a regional dialect.
good luck!
