[MOD] Sense 3.0 Mail.apk with exchange pin security disabled - Thunderbolt Android Development

Alright kids, after much trial and error, here is a working Sense 3.0 Mail.apk with exchange pin security disabled for those who hate entering a pin every time they want to unlock their phone.
Other Sense 3.0 ROMs have successfully cracked their Mail.apks to get around this, but none of them ever worked properly with the Thunderbolt... but our wait is finally over
I made sure to mod the apk to disable ONLY the pin security while leaving all other security measures intact
INSTRUCTIONS (it's also never a bad idea to make a nandroid backup first):
For the Mail.apk
1) Download the attached Mail.apk
2) Mount the system as R/W (either using Root Explorer or 'adb remount')
3) Copy the new Mail.apk to system/app via root explorer and overwrite the older file when it asks, or push the file to system/app via adb
4) Set permissions as rw-r--r--
5) Reboot
6) After reboot, open up the Mail app and set up your exchange account all the way through naming the account, then hit 'Finish Setup'
7) You will be prompted to enable security policy... this is normal so hit 'OK'
8) You will get to another screen asking you to activate security policies... again, this is normal so select 'Activate'. From here on out you will never be prompted to enter a pin
9) Profit!
For the PatchedMail.zip
1) Download the .zip and toss it on your SD card
2) Reboot into CWM
3) WIPE DALVIK-CACHE!!! (Won't work properly if you don't do this)
4) Install the .zip then reboot
5) Follow steps 6-9 above
If you have issues, try clearing dalvik-cache when installing
NOTE: This only works with Sense 3.0, it will not work if trying to flash over the Sense 2.0/1 Mail.apk. And yes, this IS working on Gingerbread ROMs
Enjoy!

Love it! Too bad I am running the ofmgb ROM

Where can I get this for a non sense ROM?
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk

Does this app have both security check-box options that come in the stock Email.apk app?
"Use secure connection (SSL)"
"Accept all SSL certificates"
I need both checked (and available) to access my work exchange server, and the Sense MAIL.apk doesn't include the latter check box, for some kooky reason.
Thanks!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I've been waiting for this for a while. I was using Touchdown but that sucks, lol. Thanks again.

The Sense Mail.apk only works with Sense ROMs. Sorry

This is still the Sense Mail.apk, I just edited the smails in the apk to return the pin security whenever the app requests it. You won't gain any new functionality with this mod so the 'use secure ssl' option is still the only one that shows up

Do you know if this apk can be used on an Evo 4G with Gingerbread? The Sense 3.0 mail that comes with the Evo 3D is the only one that can do push Hotmail in HTML (other than TouchDown). Thanks.

Thank you so much!

Will this also fix the problem I have with not having Exchange emails pushed as frequently as they are on Froyo?

I don't see how. This just circumvents the pin or password policy pushed by exchange admins.

I just wanna throw this out there for some people.
PLEASE KNOW/UNDERSTAND your security policies at work, using this mod could/may be grounds for termination or civil penalties by your Employer.

Is anyone having problems with the setting for HTML emails as default sticking? It will stay for a bit but then later in the day it will be on plain text.

Crap this hack doesn't work on the bamf 2.3 side project. It forces closes when trying to add an account.

Will this Mail.apk mod work with the NonS3ns3 v2.0 ROM which is based on 2.11.605.0 GB (GingerBread 2.3.4) ?
thanks,
Scott

Sorry for the dumb question. What is the difference between the Mail.apk and PatchedMail.apk?
Im guessing that Mail.apk replaces the native app while PatchedMail.apk patches the native app. Is that right?
thanks,
Scott

I finally tried mail.apk with my Tbolt running NonS3ns3. First, the list of mail providers was blank when the app first started. I was able to select the 1st slot which was the one for AES. Then I got a forced closed when I tried to configure my Exchange server.
I thought NonS3ns3 was a Sense ROM and that the modified mail.apk would work.
Any suggestions?

Switched to BAMF Forever 1.0.6 ROM and was able to use this modded mail.apk package.
Life is good.

I've been unsuccesfull getting this installed on BAMF 1.0.6. I get a force close before even attempting to launch the app. I've wiped cache and delvik to no avail.
Did you use the .apk file or the flashable zip? did you have to fix permissions?
I've tried both of the above

You have to delete your Mail database. Try Titanium Backup and use it to delete the data for the app.

Done and working... I'm embarrased to say that I've worked on this on and off for a few days now and never thought to do that
This was the trick and all is good

Now I'd like to find a sense 3 mail.apk with exchange security removed that supports HTML message viewing

What launcher are you using? Did you try ADW or Launcher Pro? did you also load livewallpapers.apk?
I loaded livewallpapers.apk and the livewallapaerspicker.apk
I tried with Sense and sweeterhome
But I think I need to load the .SO files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=647837
But I have to find a different SD card because I can't get into recovery mode with my 8gb sd card.
(I left my 2gb at home)
ADW gave me the same problem.
I was able to adb remount since I pushed your clean update
But now I am getting "out of memory" when I try to push the SO files.
So I guess I will have to do the push in restore mode.

Let me know if you can figure out a way to get it running in Sense. I still haven't gotten my Aria (due to show up on Monday), but the lack of wallpapers is the one thing I was disappointed with.
Well I have live wallpapers working on my aria right now in alternate launchers like adw and launcher pro.
Pulled the files from a custom rom that adds live wallpapers for legend then rebuilt them into a rom I'm working on stripped of at&t crap. Did not replace the rosie apk since at this time tha just crashed htc.launcher.
This is a fun little phone.

Hey Bob, did you find a way to fix the non-market apps toggle in settings? I am working on a modified spare parts type deal to do that now, but if you already have a fix, I am all ears. Funny, AT&T didn't like the name Liberty. How fitting that they chose not to use it.
we really should open an IRC channel
The real question is there a way to do Live Wallpapers & Sense at the same time.
I know I am being picky, but I want my tech the way I want my tech.

There is a way since the rom i stole the stuff from was for the legend and Sense its just the version of sense that was in the rom is not compatible with our rom.
I havent even started looking into the Sense APK file yet but figure with live wallpapers working correctly i just got to figure out how to disable normal wallpapers in sense to make them work.

I havent worked at all on the market toggle, i figure since we can sideload the settings.db file and it works its very low on my care list. All i worked on today was stripping out what i didnt like and trying to make a nice clean rom that had all the default files i wanted in it (google voice, pandora, etc..). Just happened to also play with the live wallpapers and found it worked on the way home when i tried a new launcher.

Update file for adding LWP to Aria
6/28/10 - Updated to allow LWP in the Sense UI
* This assumes you have your phone rooted and have access to the Clockwork Mod to allow updating your phone with unsigned zip files *
1.) Put the file onto your SD Card in the root directory
2.) Access the Clockwork Mod
4.) install zip from sdcard (option 5)
5.) choose zip from sdcard (option 2)
6.) Click on the file you downloaded and put on your sdcard
6a.) If you run into an error when installing shut off your phone,, unplug it from the USB cable, then reboot it back into Clockwork Mod and start again from step 2
7.) Once done installing, go back one menu and reboot system
8.) Upon reboot you can now choose Live Wallpaper in the wallpaper options
*Issues*
The only issue that I know of at this time is you have to use the settings/personalize/lock screen wallpaper option in order to change the lockscreen wallpaper
If you have any issues let me know, I tested this on a fresh clean stock rom flash then updated to add in the LWP.
*Files*
Clean install of the LWP packages
Select this if you want to install the LWP on a clean install or install without any LWP
Update install of the LWP packages
Select this if you used the previous version with LauncherPro and Home Switcher. This will remove those packages and update to the Sense Enabled LWP.
Thanks! I just flashed it and it works great. There's Absolutely no loss with performance with it either.

Ok lets see if this works =)
1.) Put the aria-lwp.zip file onto your SD Card in the root directory
2.) Access the Clockwork Mod using the rooting methods in the how to root your aria thread
3.) Go to the Partitions Menu and select the first option (mount /system)
4.) Go back to the main menu and choose to install a zip file
5.) Choose the option to install a zip from the SD Card
6.) Click on the aria-lwp.zip file
7.) Once done installing, go back one menu and reboot system.
8.) Upon reboot the home menu should pop up asking you to choose which home menu to launch. Choose the LauncherPro option.
9.) Go into the wallpaper options and choose your live wallpaper, it should work with no issues.
10.) Set up your new launcher, refer to any Launcher Pro threads for more info on this nice replacement launcher.
At anytime you can use the home switcher program to go back to the HTC Sense launcher if you want to use that instead. Same with setting up which launcher is used by default when you press the home button.
If you have any issues let me know, I tested this on a fresh clean stock rom flash then updated to add in the LWP.

Any chance we'll ever get this working in Sense?
Well, that didn't work.
I am still getting force quit
I might needs to do a clean flash.
Ok, I got stock to run, but I also want to get rid of the lockscreen and make it default as well. Any ideas?
Ok, reflashed with the clean install and it worked.

HTC Desire AOSP Gingerbread Email APK that can bypass Exchange security policy

The attached Email.apk allows you to bypass Exchange email security policy (e.g. annoying lock, remote wipe, etc.)
Decompiled Email.apk from HTC Desire Gingerbread (CM7) and repacked it. Basically same method as posted by afflaq.

Tested to work on my HTC Desire. Should run fine on several Gingerbread AOSP ROMS like CM7, Oxygen and Redux. Just push it to /system/app

Great, I'll try this now - I have the free version of enhanced email that was posted on here but i have problems with the push notifications - I only seem to receive emails when I've opened the app or on reboots. Hopefully this will solve it! Thanks!
EDIT: Sorry - I seem to be having trouble installing it - I get a Parse Error when I try - I'm not particularly good with these things so any help would be appreciated!
I've deleted the Email.apk from /system/app/ and pushed this to the same place. it won't install from there when I then go into it with esfile explorer or appinstaller however - I've alsoo tried to put the file on the sd card and install from there but get the same error - any advice for this?
I, too, am having trouble getting this installed. And yes, unknown sources is checked.
Can you push it again to /system/app via recovery mode? Just tested it again on my phone and it's working for me

hmm weird. it works well in me. are you using aosp gingerbread? does the email icon appeared in the app menu? i have repackaged it as a flashable zip now. try flashing this via recovery.
Hmmm, thanks, I flashed the zip - it seems to have done the same thing (pushed apk to /system/app) - the email icon doesn't appear in the app list still however and i've navigated to it via esfile explorer in system and tried installing from there but get the same parse error. I'm running Redux 1.1.1 themed.. I've no idea why it's not working!

i'll decode via apktool the email app from redux-themed 1.1.2 and i'll upload it later. i've tested it on redux 1.1.2 (not the themed one), oxygen 2.0.3 and cm 7.0.0 and it's working fine on me
Thanks man, I'm going to try to reinstall Redux 1.1.2 themed now (was having trouble with it before with major lag when answering, hanging up calls), but I'm going to do a total wipe before I reinstall it - then I'll try to flash your zip in recovery again and see if that will make any difference. I'll let you know how I get on.
Ok so I wiped, reflashed with Redux 1.1.2 themed, allowed unknown sources, flashed your zip - it didn't show in apps so I navigated to /system/app in file explorer and tried to install from there - same problem - parse error.. I don't know what else to try!
Sounds great, really needed such an app! Will try it soon! Hopefully it works ...

Using ICS v1.0 by Tytung.

There are two ways:
1. Wipe your phone
2. Push framework-res from your original rom zip via adb with right permission
For both ways making backup is highly recommended!
I just need to switch between local and gmail acc (if i need it).
So, there is no other way then using one of your two options.
If i push the orig framework to my current installation and replace them.. what will be the changes? Excepting as you said the removed google account..

How To Disable - Exchange Security policy ?

I want to bypass exchange security policy on my phone when I configure my office mail.
Is there any MOD or any ROM which has this feature built in?
If none, then can anyone help me mod the relevant apk's to achieve the same?
I was on Omega ROM on my S3 earlier which had this feature.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I was thinking the same, since I had to activate device admin, which options just like the ones in Cerberus or any antitheft app
Although not the same as the built in support, I prefer to use "TouchDown for Smartphones" as the security options are more limited to this app, rather than the phone OS. In my case, my company can only "remote wipe" the data in the app, leaving the rest of my phone data alone. It also has many features not available with the native client and better support for Exchange 2010.
This works, see link at bottom, I'm using it fine on 4.2.1 so ignore comments....I've been running it on aokp since start, see my SIG for versions
It patches your email and exchange2 apks means you can use swipe unlock and widgets on lock screen, for example I use face unlock
You must still accept companies security policy it's just not enforced.
I did it once and saved the patched apks to /sdcard and now after every new ROM flash i simply copy the saved patched apk into /system/app and then wipe dalvik. Best to remove and re-add the exchange account after each ROM update prior to overwriting files.

[App} 5.0 & 4.4.4 Email apk w/ Exchange Pin Bypassed and Dark UI toggle support

These are the AOSP 5.0 & 4.4.4 email application with the exchange pin bypassed. It will still allow for remote wipe, but no pin will be required.
5.0 email and exchange apks here * no dark ui yet
5.0 flashable zip
If you flash the dark ui zip and the rom you are using does not support the dark ui toggle, then the ui will remain dark.
Option 1 : Flash .zip in recovery
4.4.4-Bypassed-Email-DarkJuly23.zip - 4.15 MB Dark UI Toggle support.
Option 2 : Push apks to system/app
You need to be rooted and a root access file explorer like Root Explorer to complete this process.
Code:
1. Backup existing Email & Exchange apks in system/app.
-You can just rename them to : EmailGoogle.apk.bak & Exchange2Google.apk.bak
-Remember to also rename their corresponding odex files
2.Copy both new apks to system/app
3. Set permissions to rw-r-r (screenshot attached)
4. Reboot and set up your exchange account.
4.4.2 APKS
Exchange-PIN-Bypassed-Email.zip - 3.95 MB
EmailGoogle.apk - 4.82 MB
Exchange2Google.apk - 1.12 MB
4.4.1 apks
EmailGoogle.apk - 4.82 MB
Exchange2Google.apk - 1.12 MB
*Older 4.4 apks:
Exchange2Google.apk - 1.12 MB
EmailGoogle.apk - 4.81 MB
Flashable zip to return to stock unmodded email apks:
4.4.2-Stock-Email.zip - 6.45 MB
Question. First android device and I'm trying to set up exchange email and I get a message saying that my device doesn't support SD card encryption which is enforced by my company's IT department. Does this bypass that requirement as well?

I don't believe so, but you can try.

The pin bypass didn't work for you?
Worked for me. Might want to mention if you are on stock you will need to rename the odex files as well.
Please also be aware that this could be in direct violation of your companies corporate email/ActiveSync policies.
it's very important that you are aware of this, and that you understand any potential consequences of violating those policies.
I just wanted to point that out as an Exchange Admin.
Do these suffer from the same Exchange sync bug as the stock 4.4 Email/Exchange apps? Or is only the PIN requirement modified.

I haven't had any issues with my exchange account. I do have it set to sync every hour though not push.

Very true. That being said I am in no way responsible if anyone gets fired, suspended, etc.....

Pin Bypass worked fine for me.
Bypassing the encryption etc. didn't work though.
However I was able to resolve this problem by moving to MailDroid Pro.
This app gives me no calendar though *sigh* The only feature I wanted to use, as I don't care about corporate mails on my private phone but like to get a reminder on appointments. I heard the dev is working on it. Let's see if it's showing up any time soon.
Sync and auto discovery is completely broken in 4.4
Good to know it works on manual

Not using ART, which has its own set of issues.

This is the stock refreshed email application with the exchange pin bypassed. It will still allow for remote wipe, but no pin will be required.
Backup your current email and exchange apks including their odexed files and push these to system/app, set permissions, and reboot. Detailed process below.
Exchange2Google.apk - 1.12 MB
EmailGoogle.apk - 4.81 MB
You need to be rooted and a root access file explorer like Root Explorer to complete this process.
Code:
1. Backup existing Email & Exchange apks in system/app.
-You can just rename them to : EmailGoogle.apk.bak & Exchange2Google.apk.bak
-Remember to also rename their corresponding odex files
2.Copy both new apks to system/app
3. Set permissions to rw-r-r (screenshot attached)
4. Reboot and set up your exchange account.

Is there an odex version? Just curious if it will cause issues with ART if people start enabling it and run this.

I don't have one . Maybe someone else could make it.
Hi, any difference between this mod and the mod here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749921 ?
Thanks
nevermind.. odexing failed
Used the other one in post 17 and that worked didn't have to mod the odex files to back them up. Not sure why it worked with that mod over this one maybe I did something wrong the first time.
