Backlight notification kernel for epic 4g? - Epic 4G General

I was looking at BLn over on the I9000 forums and it seems like it'd be cool with the lack of notification leds available for our device. Is it possible to compile the module in a kernel (say for Genocide<3) for the epic 4g?

not likely...it would require heavy modification to bln code to play nice with our hardware keyboard

lack of... wait... what!?

My epic has has a notification led, sound, and vibration. What more we need?

I know we have 2 leds. When I said lack I meant we don't have as many as I want. Anybody ever had a blackberry? Now that's a notification led. You could have a different color for email, text, missed call, missed call from specific person, etc. Anyway thanks for the info rod.
cd's or tapes?

Handcent sms has customizeable leds. And I'm sure there are others.

Galaxy Tuner has adjustment for leds I believe, though I've never used those adjustments, so I'm not sure what they're capable of. I only use it for the equalizer.

Hey guys,
i'm searching for an application or built in option that lets my phone vibrate every x minutes if there are any pending notifications that i did not react to.
is there anything out there that could fit my needs?
didn't find any "repeat"-funciton in tasker either.

ill have a look this week at coding something as its should only use a few Broadcast Receivers and not be too complex
I think this would be a better idea then the noled app to be honest!

Is there any news on this app?
maybe we could entince the developer of NoLED to include Vibration
Something like 'notify' on the mAemo platform would be cool. Had an n900 which had multi coloured configurable led but it was always nice to have audio notify every 5 mins for missed calls and texts.

How do you change the LED Color?

In the settings you can change which applications can activate the LED, but I don't see a way to change the color. Anyone know how to change the LED color?

No, it more than likely cannot.

I tried an app that tests this, it got the LED started but it only stays on green... I think it is safe to say that it only has about 2 colours and cannot be customized by an app... However this app was built for N1 and Milestone, so it could might just be not working right on MT4G
I used Handcent on the Droid X and it allows customizing the LED colors. I just tried Handcent on my MT4G and though the option is there for customizing the colors it doesn't respond to a key press so I assume it's disabled on this phone. You can still tweak vibration patterns and tones as well as different notification icons for different persons.
Yeah I tested out some apps and I could only get it to display green. Hopefully it can display other hex values so someone can develop that feature for us.

LED display with three basic color
I am bruce from one led display company, according to my idea that you can try to change the electronic current for it , then it can change the brightness for red, blue, green lights.
Because the white color is made of three basic color: 3:6:1 in red, green, blue.
If you need more details , please inform me .
bruce
It acts like the LED on the G1 did, i did some hacking when i used to have one, and through terminal could change its color, If i get the time, i'll see what i can come up with-
Nick
if you need any support, I can talk to our engineers to help you , if you are good at the electronics, we can introduce the IC for your reference to controll the bnrightness of led display
LED colors
If you are looking for different colors for your LED.....there is an app in the market called "noLED" that allows you to use LED icons that pop up on your screen each time you get a text, email, missed call, etc. Give it a whirl, I really like it!!!!!!

4G LED - color capable?
My My Touch 3G used to be able to do Green, Red, Blue, Orange, etc...I use Nitrodesk Touchdown and could have my email flash blue, appointments flash red, and Handcent SMS flash orange, therefore could simply look at the flashing LED to determine if it was email, sms, or appt. Did the 4G get designed to only flash orange and green, or is the ROM able to make tweaks to get more color out of the LED? I am able to have handcent flash orange and it works, but everything else simply flashes green no matter what you set it.
If you're running cm7 you can change them under cyanogen settings. You can have the led blink a different color for different app notifications too.

The Fascinate Wish List

Hey everyone.
I just wanted to ask you all a question...
What is it that you wish you could have on your Fascinate?
I want you guys to list ANYTHING (aside from the obscenely ridiculous*) that you wish you could have on your phones. That includes, but is not limited to:
apps
games
lockscreens
whole roms
kernels
radios
button remappings
widgets
skins
accessories
audio/video alterations
(I will build the list as suggestions are made )
If you see someone's wish and you know of something that fits the description, POST IT! (Bonus points for links)
DEVS: I figured this could also give you guys some cool ideas all in one organized thread.
I'll also post really awesome ideas as they are created below for easy viewing.
Netflix support
Better antenna
Utilization of the camera LED in low power mode as a notification light
a how-to on better battery life
Personal ROM editor
Better gps
Full CM7
Full MIUI
Functioning TV out
More stable source code from Samsung
Virtual networks
*Having your phone turn into a lightsaber is an example of the obscenely ridiculous and most likely will not happen no matter how much you wish it.
My GPS to actually work, along with CM7 and/or MIUI (that actually support the phone's hardware).
There should be an option between 'needs a bit more' and 'hate'... such as 'I'm still not buying Samsung again'.
Functioning TV out, which from what I understand, is actually incorporated into the device pinout, but is still disabled. Some here at XDA are working on it though

+1 My GPS is good, but I definitely wish for full MIUI or CM7, that would be sweet. I also wish for better/fast updates/support from Verizon and Samsung. FAT chance.
Samsung to release properly written sources, which may lead to better functioning CM7 and MIUI. And TV-out.

I think several of you missed where he said "aside from the obscenely ridiculous"
A virtual network. What I mean by this is.
1 For the phone to act like a wireless router and let other devices connect to it.
2 let the phone itself to be on the said network. As if your attached to it via wifi (even though the virtual router would be phone based)
What this could be used for
1 control of wireless devices that use lan, with lan apps without the need of a router (ex. Pc remotes, printers, scanners)
2 ability to stream video and audio to devices like the xbox wirelessly (provided you have a wifi xbox) from your phones storage with apps like Imediashare, which atm only works over a network. So if all you have is a xbox and phone you can't watch movies..
There are lots of apps that work like this
PHONE ~~> ROUTER ~~> DEVICE
would be great if they could work like this
PHONE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~> DEVICE

I say fully working CM 6.2.0
CM7 is too far off, and won't ever be fully functional, save some unlikely breakthroughs or newer sources or ROMs from samsung.
CM 6.2 could be fully functional much more quickly (if not already) if development work wasn't done on CM7 instead.
Id like to see an app that can change the colors of a theme or the system with one or two clicks and all done with phone booted up.
Granted I love all the themes for our phone but one day I feel like purple, another day could be orange...so on so forth lol..

NoLED can't do that. AFAIK there is no such app at the moment. NoLED is close though.
you should check out the nexus s forums. there was an app that can do that on the nexus s but a custom kernel had to flashed that had that functionality built-in. i think it was called bln (back light notifications).
as for noled, it is a pretty cool and very functional app. i used to use the very first beta releases when i had a galaxy s, and i was recently using the market version on my nexus s and it allows for the screen to show notifications of missed events, plus you can also have it give audio reminders every so often if you do not acknowledge a missed event

[Q] Read LED Notifications

Hi all. I have been doing some searching around for a way to get the rear LED to light up in any way shape or form for apps, specifically SMS.
Has anyone found a way to get it on AT ALL using apps like Light Flow or Light Manager? Stock or a custom ROM? If you have gotten it on in anyway at all, please let me know! (And how you did it please)
I spent some time emailing with the LightFlow dev last night too, and he is interested in getting control over it too. So anything to get it on is great.
Thanks everyone!

Just tried, same results.
I have it half on with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1958939
Working on full access. Ill keep everyone updated.
To use that app install it and enable it in accessibility. Then open the app and go to auto locate. Choose your LED here. "button-backlight1" is for the left, "button-backlight2" is for the right. It will probably just show you up to the word "button: though. But it appears twice, once on the left of the screen, once on the right. Choose either side. And that's it. It will flash when you get a notification.

I sent him an email about this a few minutes ago. But light flow also only lights up half of the ring, the right side to be specific. If you use the app I linked above you can get either half (left or right) working and it blinks!
Ill let you know any updates I get, but at least it is half blinking now!
Worked some more with the light flow dev. We have gotten the FULL led ring to light up! It is currently solid. Ill post more as it develops.
In the meantime here is a picture of my device, using lightflow, when I receive an SMS. Enjoy for now!
