Recent troll activity in the dev forum?

Has anyone else noticed recently that a lot of noobs have been posting questions in the dev forum there is like 2 new ones there every day...

It happens, certainly with a site of, and I quote, Active Members: 401,132.
What I don't get is why people feed em.
If someone posts in the wrong section ignore the thread and move on with life. It will drop to page 60 within a few hours.

The people you're referring to are tards, not trolls. Trolls are the ones that respond to these threads for no reason.

You guys throw around the term troll a lot. The correct term for the context would be noob and report the post to be moved to the question section. Complaining about the problem and not offering a solution is pretty lame.

The fun thing is, it's about to get "worse".
This happened with the Hero too.
From what I've noticed, the cycle goes like this:
Awesome phone is dev phone of choice.
New awesome phone gets released, and previous awesome phone becomes "cheap phone" (or secondhand phone) of choice.
XDA floods with new members with their "new" phones, wanting to join the fun.
By this time, the usual well-known devs, and seasoned users, move on to new forum section, old section fills up with ... well, n00bs (fine) and trolls (not fine).

The possible loss of time is indeed tragic. Let's talk more about how this thread is slightly less useful than I had hoped.
Seriously, Pete is a very thorough dev, his roms are great and I am glad to hear he is working on this.

Or we could discuss your intelligence, or rather lack there of. I mean really, I use my Android while driving my BMW, why not start a thread on that? The forum rules are very clear: ONLY threads listing roms, kernels, etc. are allowed here. Simple disregard for forum rules & organization. THIS is why people don't bother to read threads before asking questions, they are cluttered with nonsense. The posting rules are in place for a reason : to keep useless BS post out of the forums we go to for important stuff. Posting this was either a noob mistake or an idiotic move on behalf of the op.

Seeing how rom-devs are dime-o-dozen these days, to know Peter was moving from NS to NS4G , answers a lot of my questions, and helps me prevent wasting buttloads of time, flashing other ppls "gold"

Obviously it is in the wrong section. But I will continue to find it humorous that such a large percentage of posts in forums are about housekeeping/protocol issues. "Don't ask this question, post in this other section" etc. If these things bother you so much, you truly are wasting your time, right now, reading this post.

Yes we have a lonely mod who is somewhat of a nazi about some dumb rules he came up with. Neither of which Peter violated anyway but he still chose to lock and move his thread.

Well by looking at your post count, you haven't been around here very long and might not know the drama that unfolded in the past. In this phone's section at least, it doesn't matter where you post your topic. It will be moved and or locked by the powers that be. It might get moved within the nexus s section or it might get thrown into a completely different section of the forum on a whim. Your posts will get edited, locked, moved, deleted, etc. Even if you are a developer and make a rom, if the you know what decides that it's not supposed to be in the development section, it's gone. The (censored) is god around here and doesn't get along well with some people. Pete left probably because he got tired of the bs and being harassed by this (beeeep). Perhaps you should know a little more of what happened previously before busting in here all holier than thou. But then again, maybe you can be this persons teacher's pet since you think alike.

there was no rom posted by the op. this is simply a "head's up" about pete's upcoming rom. i personally can't wait for it.

I just read 2 thread which is Matr1x kernel and AdamG AOSP..
It is so annoying reading post that asking MK when will release JB kernel and asking thalamus to add vodoo smartass bla bla to his kernel..
Dont they realize that our dev just do the kernel, ROM , mod just as hobby??
Why have to ask repetitively for ETA for this and this??ironically the question already answered few previous post..
Eventhough you have donate 100000USD to dev..It is a donate..Not a paid, salary so whatever..So..

Users should be able to mark posts as spam like on youtube and if it gets two or three times marked as spam it should be deleted. Keeping the dev forum clean would not only make things easier for devs, but also for us, if there were no ETA questions and feature requests or other spam (don't post NICE ROM DOOD, AWSUM!!! but instead use the thanks button) it'd be much easier for us to find out the ROMs bugs etc.
A note to the devs: I know I can't request anything, but keeping Post #1 up to date and include as much relevant information as possible might help keeping your thread clean but that's just a suggestion and many of you do it anyways

Here! Here! Hope people read and take into consideration the implications of this post. We (non-devs) are very fortunate to have these very talented people donate their time and hard work for our enjoyment.

It just seems, at least to me, people just expect things to be handed to them and they feel that they are somehow owed something. I don't know the average age of the members here, but it may also have to do with that. I'm not giving them a free pass, but I've become kinda bitter when I see stuff like this because I've been using forums since middle school. I was that way once, but come on. How hard is it to read the OP?

To be honest. More and more users of xda is joining xda. (I've been flamed by NetChip, so i responded) Once they join, they didn't look into forum rules, didn't look into the Terms, and didn't look for Developers respects. So, you tell me. Forums for Nexus S get closed, the phones are useless, just paperweights and we all have to get a new one. Probably an iPhone, because we're unworthy of Android. Seriously, what's the point of all the whining?! Life goes on, and so does developement. Is this the first time you've seen such things happen on xda?!

He said he will release another JB rom once he is satisfied with it, which I'm cool with. The knuckleheads that kept asking the same thing over and over again didn't help either. You see it all over the place here. The answer half the time is in the op or a few pages back. But a site this popular will have many more people like that, so sadly it seems unavoidable.

Its the cycle... as a device gets older, it becomes cheaper. When it's cheaper, younger ppl can afford it. Younger ppl aren't as mature as older ppl (usually), and when they become part of the community, they bring a lot of young ppl problems.

Im okay if developers move on because of changing handphone..thats okay..such as netarchy, miui german team, steve garon ezekeel and other..thats alright..
But how about developers goes away from.xda because of forumers attitude?
Report bug without description and log in development section?
Asking ETA with trolling style?

All those examples suck, yes. Why do you think the 10-post-minimum was added? But to prevent it completely, you'd need a mod cleaning the threads continuously, that would be a boring fulltime-job. As for the attitudes: It takes two to tango... ^^

I agree with this post. Its like all of the members that left us for a Galaxy Nexus recently passed down or sold their Nexus S to a breed of idiots. It has never been this bad.

I wiped and did factory reset. Installed. Completed and reboot stuck on cyanogen (mod) screen. Pulled battery and restarted and the same stuck at the same place.

Sounds like you are only testing still. Unless you want a Development thread full of flaming asking for features, source, screenshots, then no, it don't belong there. Not to mention credits for all the devs whose work you used must also be posted. I don't know who you asked but they weren't a mod or they misunderstood you.

Why should he credit? I gave him permission he's my friend. He can do whatever ill help him on it. Ill give the facts and everything in a bit. it works pretty fast on the shift so I hope y'all enjoy pm me in you need anything and why was this thread moved? I can link features for him.

He should credit because it is XDA policy and the decent thing to do. It doesn't matter if he has permission or not, failing to credit someone else's work is not looked upon kindly here.
The thread was moved because there was no documentation as to what was included, who did the original work, and whether or not it even works.
Asking for testers is not a full release. Public Alpha with proper documentation will probably sneak by.

Rules are rules, period! If you tell him he doesn't have to pay taxes, should he listen to you, or should he follow the law (rules)? Rules are put here for a reason, if we don't abide by them, this whole site would be much worse off... and fyi nobody cares if you left before, if you can't follow rules, then bye, and don't come back! Thanks!

You obviously don't know what I put up with over on xda evo shift development. Just sayin. Wasn't being mean in the first place either. I was simply stating its one reason why I left. No fyi is needed either and laws are laws rules are rules there's a difference I wasn't hating on this rule even if I said its one reason why I left. How did I state it mean? Also I don't see other sites worse off. I see a lot of respect. I got a lot of disrespect here and almost every 2 days someone asking for an update or something like " bluetooth still not working going back to cm7 " you know its like people expect so much out of me. That's really why I left. I get it constantly anywhere.
Back to topic, yes this rom is ics no its not sense. It does have working keyboard lights ( at least on my shift ) roaming indicator is broken may be fixed in port don't know and video camera is broken also may be fixed dunno.

Mega, you will find us generally more patient and pleasant than the HTC folk (or any of the other forums for that matter). Just put your known issues in the OP and most people will be fine.

I'm patient too never wasn't with htc. I have a LG Spectrum 4G LTE now and love it. Not going back to htc cause they are just too expensive now when I got the spectrum brand new for 50$. Lol @ the morphine thing and I was more than glad to help. I didn't mean in any way to sound harsh. I mean I love to release stuff and see people enjoy ( fingers going num on evo shift keyboard at this point ). =)

General. That's why Kenny moved it here. And it sounds intriguing, but credits in the OP is not, to my knowledge, optional on XDA. But we've beaten that dead horse.

I bet as long as megaghostgamer is cool with it, its fine, but bfitz26 should when he posts it in dev. Just because it shows where it came from and who gets credit. I know if I help people, its nice to see them credit me. I make sure to credit everyone who helped me (or at least I try to get everyone I remember). If you don't credit people, its technically plagiarism (unless its obvious, like obviously I didn't make htc sense, I just port it from htc devices). People assume if no one is credited, either a: you did it all by yourself or b: you're just taking all the credit.

I don't care if I get banned. I feel that I have contributed to XDA and if a mod wants to ban a senior member over a harmless thread, I can go elsewhere.
They need to step off their high horse and start moderating, not dictating. I haven't been here very long (a year and a half) but the quality of this forum has tanked due to A) asshole users. While in our forums it's rare, other boards are filled with them. Blatant disrespect is horse**** on any level, regardless of the situation. Also, B) power trip mods. If these guys are too fast to slam the ban-hammer (ouch!) and I'm sure more than a few have little experience in moderation. I was a mod on a little forum my friends had in high school (hence my handle) and the most I did was eradicate spam and make sure threads were posted in the right place, no dupes, general housekeeping. There wasn't a need to lock active threads that had over 700 pages of content.
I remember when I joined there was a n00b video on how to not be a forum n00b. Maybe they should do that for mods too.
On a side note, if the mod wanted a thread in the general off topic board, why didn't he just move it? And what about all the pure crap threads in said board?
If I get banned, I will let it be known all over reddit, Facebook, G+, Twitter, you name it, that XDA does not promote an atmosphere where devs and users are free to collaborate together due to asshat users and power trip mods.

I agree Tally. I looked forward to reading the ot thread to see what was going on and to pick up a few nuggets of info. I don't have much reason to visit XDA now since I do use the X2 and the development for it has slowed.
I hope the mod for X2 is proud of himself.

I havent been on this forum in quite a while.....I have had my RAZR now for about 8 months, but decided I needed to root it recently. BUT, in order to post in the development portion of the forum I need at least 10 posts....so here I am! lol

You can ask questions here if you need help. Posting in development threads is for bugs and workarounds and stuff. General questions either go here or in Q and A. You'll probably get a faster response here though.
Also, this board is for the RAZR HD, xt925/xt926. For the OG RAZR xt912, you're in the wrong spot.

Couldn't agree more. I'm a mod on 5 other android sites at the moment and we don't bother ourselves with this kind of ****. Make sure things are posted in the correct section, nix spam and keep the conversations friendly on the most part. Its really sad here....
