I have had the Acer and Asus and honeycomb is weak. It's just too unstable, and the Transformer has too many quality problems. I tried to make the most of it, but today my Asus wouldn't boot up got stuck at the Asus screen. It's over, and as I look in this forum there are more complaints then then anything. Honeycomb is not ready and the Asus has serious quality issues. I'm waiting for webos now.

Quite the opposite for me. Honeycomb has been very stable and no crashes.

That's because people who are happy with their tablets don't flood the forums with new threads. Honeycomb has been anything but unstable for me. No crashes. Sure, still has video problems but that's not Honeycomb's fault.

yes i ****ed up my TF, yes i bought another one that i will have the next tuesday, but i never had problems with HC.... ok i lied i had my FC and other stuff, but im a CE and im so USED to computers crashing and doing weird stuff, plus i only screwed up HC when i was trying to do some anime playback

I love honeycomb as well, not one crash so far. These threads are getting really annoying.
While I am liking it mostly, i think the iPad is much more polished. Things like txyping on this forum are painful. Typing with two fingers is faster than the tablet can display. Then there are the apps, even things like the XDA app consistently crash. I found many which work fine and seem to cover my needs nicely, I still find my self wishing for a more polished product. And that is just honey comb.
As for the hardware I think it is lacking optimizations massivley. Againg this is a look and feel issue, the damned TF has friggin sharp edges. Mine actually gave me a small aluminum splinter. Also the sharp edged holes at the bottom make it uncomfortable to hold sometimes.
There are good things though. The battery seems to be great. I really like the screen. The fact that there is a micro sd slot is wonderful. Overall the tablet is light and durable.
I told myself i'd give it a wek like i did for the Iconia. I like things about both but i think the iPad is a better product overall.

HC was stable for me. I would't say HC is not ready, I would say the HC ecosystem is not ready yet. Too little apps for HC tablets

google its.... a bit bold on its modus operandi, they are developing hardware and hardware related software (AKA OS android) as if they were developing Gmail,and other aplications of google (and those are good), if you think about those you know what its comming its GOOOD
Ios its not bad, but... its simple and that helps a lot on the polishing part and its 4 year old too, its not bad i repeat nor old, its just more mature

True. I am one of the non posters who is thrilled with the Transformer.
No doubt Honeycomb has a little ways to go, but this is the first time that I have used a tab that, to me, beats out the iPad. Since I have had the TF my IPAD has just collected dust.
The quality issues are minimal and the benefits greatly outweigh them.

Somethings are great. Most of what isn't will be fixed over time. Build quality issues will be resolved as different manufacturers get involved or TF 2 =)
Honeycomb apps overall can be slow though. Things like typing in this quick reply box are slow and stuttering, the halting cursor movement is very erratic. No netflix yet is annoying, but might be here eventually. In my mind I want the iPad polish on Android, but that will be in time. I'm 50/50 atm as to whether this goes back next week, if so I'll end up waiting to see what comes out this summer.
Honeycomb is awesome. I was slightly worried when I read all the initial reviews bashing the XOOM, but I've had almost no issues with it. In fact the Froyo and Gingerbread that I've had running on my phone is less stable than Honeycomb on my Transformer.
I would say that honeycomb and the transformer have both surpassed my expectations. I expected HC to have a lot more bugs than I have experienced. My first android experience was with an og droid on eclair, and until I started using what the dev community had developed, I would have killed to have my iPhone back.
I also purchased the original ipad when it came out and quickly returned it because it operated exactly the same as a big version of my iphone/iPod touch, which made it boring and usuless to me. The transformer, on the other hand, has been able to do anything that I have needed it to while also being fun. The transformer has really gotten more use than any other new gadget that I can remember, in the few weeks that I have had it. I also have not exprienced any of the quality control issues that are constantly talked about on here, other than some limited light bleed, which in my book can't really even be considered a defect.
I believe HC itself to be quite stable, as I have never had a crash/reboot. Many apps, even the supposed HC optimised apps, need some real attention to run well on HC but I don't blame the OS for that.
In short, I am very happy with HC and the quality of the transformer. The one thing that may bring me to ditch the transformer in the future is the lack of any way to use nvflash. I have partially bricked many phones and have had to use this method to restore them. Without it I don't really feel comfortable rooting and romming the thing, so for now I'm choosing to stay stock, at least until 3.1 and the constant FOTA updates are pushed out.
I'm enjoying my TF and HC more than I ever thought. I probably wouldn't have been as enthusiastic if I didn't have the keyboard dock, since typing on screen (on any tablet) is awkward. I spend more time with my TF now than I do with my laptops.

The typing issue on this site and others built using the same base platform is due to how the stock browser handles it.. try switching to the classic skin or use Firefox.. works much faster IMHO this 'lag' issue has been mentioned here and explained many times now, and whilst its not ideal.. its a pretty isolated issue and not a real reason to generalize that 'the TF is laggy/HC is laggy' (IMHO of course - but then, I'm biased and love me my TF )
No crashes to me. Very stable OS. With 3.1 should be perfect.

People need to get real. You read the post just like me, I see complaint after complaint. It's a 400 dollar half baked product.70 % bad 20% good 10% don't know what to do with this thing. Good luck with the light bleed, Sharp edges, bad speakers, unresponsive screen, gaps in the corner of screen, vibrating plastic back when volume is full blast, buggy OS, no accessories available, really I want to like it too.

Getting real.. my Transformer works just fine thankyouverymuch Only wearing the rose coloured glasses because it really does work (for me, and quite a few others it seems - though not all, I'll admit)
I'm sure you love your tech, and for that reason of course I'm disappointed that you're not getting the same experience as I am.. more satisfied customers equals a growing userbase equals more support and so on...
.. (although cheaper than the competition, the Transformer's RRP still isn't trivial and I can see why you'd hacked off), but those that are enjoying the transformer experience aren't deluding themselves that its something it isn't; we're evangelising for a reason (in our own honest opinions of course) ... I would probably be as disillusioned as you if I'd encountered the same problems, and by the sounds of it the blame (if you want to call it that) could be thought to lie with both Asus and Google.. however, for now.. i'm loving the tech, and didn't blink once when the reviews of another world beating tablet started coming out (Galaxy Tab 10.1) - this thing ticks all the right boxes for me
I guess you'll have to go with an alternative (Galaxy Tab 10.1, iPad/iPad2 etc.) or wait for something else that ticks all the right boxes from an o/s, usability, support, software library and build quality perspective..

However, from all the negative 3.1-related threads I'm kind of regretting it now. Talk of battery drains, speaker issues, lags, random reboots, worse wifi, etc. is making me wish I'd held off or gone for something else (Acer Iconia?)
Please someone tell me that in the grand scheme of things, this is actually a bloody decent device!
Aside from a small bit of light leak mine is all good. What you're experiencing is people that aren't satisfied will be more likely to speak up than people who are satisfied with the devices. These issues are things that have happened to certain users but its not like your device will automatically present all these symptoms. In the grand scheme of things this is a really nice device. If you are looking for something where everything is perfect and there are no issues,you might have to wait a while longer until honeycomb matures a bit more and the 2nd Gen of android tabs come out (i don't really count gb tabs as officially supported android tabs)

While I can't speak for anyone else I bought mine sight unseen and could not be happier.
I'm rooted on 3.1 and overclocked and while kernel is a little rough I am loving it. Only gonna get better. Besides, stock kernel is an option.
Light bleed...not an issue for me. (Haven't noticed so I don't care)
Random reboots. May have happened overnight but I haven't seen any.
I haven't killed my battery yet. Lowest I've gotten was last night to 23% but I was flashing **** like crazy. (No dock btw)
Lots of storage.
Videos play great now.
Speakers are fine to me. (They make it so I can easily hear what I want to hear)
Screen is gorgeous.
Kills the zoom as far as I can tell.
I am happy and with all the development going on I am only going to get happier.

No battery drains, speaker issues, or wifi problems with mine. Have had it randomly reboot on me once though. And I've seen the Xoom lag way worse. Overall, this is the best tablet currently available. I wouldn't touch an Acer product with a 10 yard stick.
Stick with 3.0 if you don't like all the problems with 3.1. Though, I'm using it and am only bothered by the browser.
I just ordered mine too and don't yet have it. I had what you are having and even cancelled the order at one point in favor of the a500. After cancelling, I did a pretty thorough look at the Acer a500. Even though it has better speakers, a USB 2.0 port, and vibrate, it's downsides are too much to take.
I don't want something that heavy or bulky. It has known GPS problems. The battery life is pretty mediocre when compared to the Transformer. And, currently anyway, the development for this tablet is much more promising.
Don't worry about the bleed issues. That seems to be the biggest one people complain about. Just keep exchanging until you get one with minimal bleeding.
It is a bloody fantastic machine! Love it, it has been used pretty much non-stop since the 3 of May!
Excellent piece of hardware - I only got the 16GB version, so plan is to purchase a good microSDHC card soon - 32GB version.
I am running on the latest version (3.1) and I could not be happier. Got the dock a week ago and I amazed on how much I use it. Often combo-use the touch screen and keyboard for interactions with the transformer.
I game, surf, read, watch movies and some hobby software development. Plan is to soon be able to actually develop on it as well
I know the experience migth vary, but for me, this piece of wonderful wholesome goodness could not be better, unless someone covered it in batter and deep fried it!

Aside from a small amount of light bleed, that is only noticeable if you are sitting in the dark with the screen ramped up to maximum brightness, I haven't had any problems with my mine. It's a great bit of kit and the dock takes it to a completely different level. No regrets at all about buying mine,

16 hours off the charger and I'm at 52%. Granted, a good deal of that has been idle, I haven't played with it for 16 hours straight, but that is in line with what I expect from a tablet -- mess with it some, lay it down for hours, and pick it up again later with a decent amount of juice left. Mine creaks a bit in the upper right corner, and I notice one small spot of light bleed under perfectly dark conditions, but otherwise, I'm glad I bought it. Won't find a better value anywhere else.

I am thrilled with the TF!!! And let me just say that I am very hard to please when it comes to electronics.
I had the G-Slate and the TF whips it, hands down.
The Acer tab is alright, but it is wayyy too bulky and still not quite as good as the TF IMO.
I am using 3.1 and although it is not as fast as 3.0 when I had it overclocked it still works fine. I haven't tried the 3.1 oc kernel that got posted today yet.

Yeah only two things to really be concerned about is the light bleed, if it's massive, and battery life after 3.1.
For the $400 price, the IPS display, and all other tablets sucking, I guess I'm happy with the Transformer. But I got a few problems.
My first transformer had a defective screen that was separated from the glass making the back light visible on one side and causing the glass to bend.
I'm on my second Transformer now. It's got back light bleeding, which doesn't bother me too much. But it's also got a quarter inch circle on the screen that is brighter than the rest of the screen. Looks like something is wrong with the panel there.
So now I got to return a second Transformer. And this is such a pain because I got to time it right with when they have something in inventory or just be without a the tablet for a while like last time.
There are other build quality issues. The back plastic edges are not flush with the metal bezel, some corners are popped up a little.
And the speaker volume is not balance (fearing this might be hardware problem too since its still not fixed from the 3.1 update).
I was having some performance issues and found I had to reboot the tablet often to refresh the performance. Then I started removing some applications. After removing TweetCaster Pro, suddenly the performance improved significantly.
I seem to get a lot more keyboard lag (ASUS or Android keyboard) with the stock browser after the 3.1 update. It's a little disappointing.
I've got gripes. But I think I'll be keeping the Transformer (though definitely need to go through another exchange). The A500 doesn't have an IPS display and is very heavy. And I suspect it'll have it's share of software problems too. Same thing for the Xoom. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 has it's own quality build issues (it's glass likes to pop out of the bezel like the Transformer's back side is doing on mine) and it's lack of micro SD is a huge disappointment.
The state of Android tablets is still in a rather sad state. But we are still kinda early adopters and it's the price we pay.
PS. Almost forgot to mention, the GPS on my Transformer doesn't work at all. Though this really doesn't bother me since I don't use it anyway.
Yikes! I swear I think there are just bad batches out there, that can be the only explanation of these wild swings in quality. I guess the OP needs to cross his fingers and hope he gets one of the good ones.

THIS so much.
I am REALLY surprised with how much damn COMPLAINING there is across these boards. My unit came perfect apart from a small bit of light bleed at the bottom.
And best of all? 3.1 DOUBLED the functionality of the tablet. I was super happy with it when I got it, and then the update made it feel like a new tablet.
Besides the light bleed, my only problem with it is that it doesn't seem to do 1080p output through the miniHDMI jack.
Other than that, it's perfect and one of the best technology purchases I have ever made.
TBH, when I purchased mine I read all the complaining about problems and also was worried. But when I opened it, plugged it in, and used it, I was blown away and all my worries were destroyed.
Seriously, it's an amazing product that benefits even more by the dock and by Honeycomb 3.1. Even if new tablets with better hardware come out, this tablet is going to retain its uniqueness and power through the ever-increasing capabilities of Honeycomb (and eventually Ice Cream Sandwich!) and because of its fantastic Dock.
EDIT: Please don't get me wrong, by "complaining" I don't mean that people are whining about illegitimate problems. Problems DO exist, but it's as the person I quoted said: it's just biased because all the people without problems are enjoying their tablets and not looking for solutions on this forum.
The only "problem" that I feel IS complaining is people who whine about how their tablets "creak". It's like the most minor problem of anything, and yet there are people who have returned their tablets and won't buy another one just because their first one makes a small creak sound when you press on it.
Remember this device is on the edge of tech. New product. Growing pains in manufacturing, etc. There will be returns.
But I can tell you that I have been on the edge of tech since before the IBM PC. And I have never had a "toy" that brought such amazement and sheer joy. Run google body on it (while you have two email accounts updating and google voice updating while you have a map with the latest earthquakes updating while you have a maps window open while you have conversion software to convert anything to anything and gps navigation at your fingertips with Copilot Live) and prepare to be amazed. All while listening to music.
I have no problems others than the sound is not very good. I think it will get better with updates; there are $25 solutions to this problem.

I had two with bleed and speaker balance issues. one experience the frame separation too and it got worse the longer I had it. for me the bleed was noticeable even at lowest brightness sine I read books with black bg and red text. one had way more bleed than the other.
my third try is coming on Tuesday. I've decided to give up using the tf as an ebook reader and keep it limited to comics or reading in daylight.
as for the crappy speakers, sound quality and balance issues, ive just decided that for what it offers at the price its good enough. plus i have my archos 101 as back up. crappier build and screen but better av playback quality.
the tf is a great device, if that weren't true I wouldn't give it three tries. I just really wish the qc was better.
I've had mine since April 28th and it's fine. No problems to speak of except minor light bleed, which doesn't bother me at all. 3.1 even improved my battery performance, so I'm kind of surprised to hear about the other issues here. Enjoy your TF and post your thoughts after you receive.
So, I used to be relatively anti-tablet. I will admit that a lot of that stemmed from how much people freaked out about the iPad when it came out. I'm not a big fan of apple, regardless of the beauty of their devices.... I can't stand how locked down and controlled their phone\tab is.
Either way, I was pretty meh on tablets and honestly that sentiment was still there when the first android tabs came out. Why the heck would I want a blown up Froyo OS if I didnt want an overblown iOS? Then.... THEN... google showed off honeycomb.
I instantly had a little twinge in my feelings of tablet-hate. Wait.... I really like Android on my phone, and.... and... an operating system that actually is MADE for tablets? I didn't understand what I was feeling.. so many conflicting emotions!
By the time the Xoom was announced I was trying my hardest to get rid of my problems with a tablet because I was so intrigued by the possibilities of honeycomb.. The issue that took the longest to overcome was... hey.. I have a nice laptop (M11x) and a phone that I use quite often. When the heck am I actually going to WANT a Tab?
I went and picked up a Xoom wifi the first day, cringing at the 600$ price-tag. So much money. I ripped the thing out of the box and set it up and found that I absolutely loved honeycomb just as I thought I would. But I had some major disappointments with the thing as well. 600$ was probably the biggest problem, but the second issue I had was my gigantic disappointment with the screen itself. It really just looked BAD, and I felt that if I was using a tablet, it had to be a TREAT to look at. And with the xoom, I appreciated the resolution, but the screen was just too poor to handle.
I boxed the Xoom up and on a whim, after about the 3rd day, decided I NEEDED to take the thing back (something all my friends did NOT expect, as I LOVE my gadgets). I felt good about my decision, and pleased to get my 600$ back. I decided I just NEEDED to wait for more tabs.
I wasn't planning on getting one so quickly after that, but when I read about what Asus was packin', I couldn't believe it. From the very first "impressions" on the TF that I read, I KNEW I had to have it. It was perfect.. beautiful screen at an amazing price point. This thing wasn't losing ANYTHING (other than 16gb) that the xoom had, yet it was gaining so much... for 200$ less!!
I dont know how Asus did it 200$ cheaper than the xoom, but I absolutely love my TF and I use it way more often than I expected I would. The screen is beautiful, the thing is lighter than the xoom, and it has a freakin' working SD card slot! My TF has it's problems (light bleed), and honeycomb has its bugs, but I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My tablet is an absolute pleasure to utilize, and its so nice to just break the thing out on an airplane or go sit outside and smoke a cig while surfing the web.
The TF really should have been the flagship product to showcase honeycomb, at the same price point, with the same screen, with the same keyboard adapter (which I am not buying\using). Maybe the public perception of android tablets would be a lot higher.
I know, cool story hansel, but so often there is a lot of negativity on these boards, I thought a happy owner story might be nice to hear. I can't be anything but excited regarding the future of Android and tablets in general. I'm truly a convert
I was in the same mindset as you until the Transformer came out. I am on my second TF (first one had a vertical line on the third IPS panel) and have no light bleed or any issues. The price point was what sold me on it's beautiful display. Now I make fun of my friends that own an Xoom and complain that their display colors are off (they use them to draw).

Here I am typing away on my Honeycomb tablet that last me for days (with combination of the dock, started at 10am this morning, I'm sitting at 80%) and actually lets me type and multitask with ease.
It took me a couple tries to get one where light bleed wasn't bad, but assuming this thing lasts (with care), I am a very happy user so far.
It's funny your story started out just like mine with the Xoom; it was the display for me too that made me take it back.
I think the part I love the most is that is not Apple nor Windows.

I boxed the Xoom up and on a whim, after about the 3rd day, decided I NEEDED to take the thing back (something all my friends did NOT expect, as I LOVE my gadgets). I felt good about my decision, and pleased to get my 600$ back. I decided I just NEEDED to wait for more tabs.
I wasn't planning on getting one so quickly after that, but when I read about what Asus was packin', I couldn't believe it. From the very first "impressions" on the TF that I read, I KNEW I had to have it. It was perfect.. beautiful screen at an amazing price point. This thing wasn't losing ANYTHING (other than 16gb) that the xoom had, yet it was gaining so much... for 200$ less!!
I dont know how Asus did it 200$ cheaper than the xoom, but I absolutely love my TF and I use it way more often than I expected I would. The screen is beautiful, the thing is lighter than the xoom, and it has a freakin' working SD card slot! My TF has it's problems (light bleed), and honeycomb has its bugs, but I couldn't be happier with my purchase. My tablet is an absolute pleasure to utilize, and its so nice to just break the thing out on an airplane or go sit outside and smoke a cig while surfing the web.
The TF really should have been the flagship product to showcase honeycomb, at the same price point, with the same screen, with the same keyboard adapter (which I am not buying\using). Maybe the public perception of android tablets would be a lot higher.
I know, cool story hansel, but so often there is a lot of negativity on these boards, I thought a happy owner story might be nice to hear. I can't be anything but excited regarding the future of Android and tablets in general. I'm truly a convert

You're a good man... I agree with you 100% on everything you said. This tablet is amazing and it very well should have been a flagship device but google is already in bed with samsung, htc and moto so there really wasn't a chance for that.
I'm willing to bet though that if Asus did some aggressive advertising in the American market, android tablet sales would blow up much more than how they did through moto's xoom advertisements. The TF appeals to so many different kinds of people, it offers something unique that other tablets don't and it's priced extremely competitively. This thing should of blown up by now.
The Xoom's display was really just lacking a sharpness and it really disappointed me. The screen on the TF was exactly what I was looking for. I'm a big sucker for NICE screens, and it's nice to use that instead of my M11x for casual browsing and stuff.
TF screen is STILL so pleasurable, even after owning the thing for a month.
I'm struggling with the thought of getting the keyboard dock for the TF. Not only would it actually be nicer than I expected to be able to type on my TF (I really am not a big fan of touchscreen keyboards so I switch to my laptop when heavy typing occurs), but the other benefits are pretty exceptional too. People say it's expensive but you really get kind of a lot for your money. It's WAY more intriguing than I expected it to be, purely because I love using my TF so much
Oh and starplaya... I'm at LEAST pretty happy with the fact that the TF seems to be selling pretty damn well and beyond expectations. It could STILL be the jumpstart android tablets need.
I really seem to get a lot of positivity when people who have HEARD of the TF actually see me using it. People seem intrigued and generally have a favorable amount of interest, whereas the Xoom seems to generally be thought of as negative. That's important for sales.

When I had the xoom I doubted every second of using it. I think every other electronic device I own has been doubted at one time or another after purchasing it.
I have no regrets at all after finally getting my eee pad. One of the best investments I have made in a long time.

Incidentally I'm a TF user with no hardware issues whatsoever - which contributes to my happiness with the situation.
Only a couple of downsides for me: No 3/4G and No standard USB on the tablet.
One BIG positive that people often confuse as a negative:
It's early days for honeycomb. Sure that means not a whole boatload of apps right now but we do get to be there right from the start of the journey. There is going to be a whole lot of awesome coming for android tablets soon enough.
my friend got a galaxy, i held it and it felt...off. felt almost like a toy, easy to break almost. i like the transformer much better ^_^
I really enjoy using the transformer,
The hdmi port which I didn't think I will use much,
But now I am always connecting it up to my tv for playing games, streaming moving, playing flash streams,
I don't even use the built in Internet on the tv anymore...

The only thing I miss is an Usb port. But I agree it should be honeycomb flagship. With its specs and price it would be the greatest threat to ipad, and would make android recognized as the #1 tablet OS.

It's more than enaugh for ubuntu distro together with honeycomb.
On topic - I love my transformer and except some light bleed and SOD 5 times/day, it's perfect. I believe SOD will get sorted out eventually anda light bleed is nothing to worry about (I can always return it if it bugs me).

I went from a playbook to a transformer and honestly what a huge difference. The playbook did appear to be pretty smooth at handling multitasking but the biggest problem was what could you multitask with....Once i got my transformer I had it rooted, overclocked and had ubuntu running vnc within days of purchase. These forums are forever giving new ideas and the devs are amazing so i couldn't have made a better purchase imo.

I typically do not post raves, but this time I have to rave about the Transformer. This is what everyone that try's to do an android tablet should be making. I got the Gtab last fall and did all the moding to get a usable tablet. Worked pretty good I had to say. Until now. The TF is outstanding. I had the pleasure of quieting a couple friends with iPads on Friday. The TF tore through internet pages, video on Youtube and anything else they could challenge me with.
I have been a fan of Asus for awhile and will continue to praise their product.
FYI, buy from a reputable vendor and you wont have the headaches.

+1 had to go show it to my old boss the ultimate apple product fanboy, he looked for a bit, then quickly found a reason not to talk to me anymore normally he would argue with me about how apple is far superior, there is no argument that really holds water in the ipad vs eeepad shootout
I completely agree. After I messed around with most tablets out there. (Xoom, Iconia, iPad 1 and 2, etc...) I finally settled on the TF and I do not regret a thing. I absolutely love the little guy. The transformer is easily my favorite tablet and product that I've purchased from ASUS.
Almost a year ago Asus was showing off that 12 inch win7 tablet/laptop/transformer, and I wanted it so bad back then...
Januari this year I bought the Toshiba Folio 100, and after modding it, it does work very well imo... But when I walked through a MediaMarkt XL store (just to look aroudn and play around with some stuff), I saw this transformer, and I knew I was going to buy it, but I wanted to make sure it really was what it looked like... so I read and watched a lot of reviews, and bought it the next day!
It's so nice that I even leave my 15" HP ProBook at home most of the time!
(The wallpaper is a live video wallpaper)

The keyboard integration is so good that i'm using the tablet almost exclusivly with the dock.
It's light, easy to use, the trackpad is awesome, the connectivity is top notch and the battery life is....well it's basicly the longest battery life there is in any device. Want to use it all day long in your garden downloading movie, watching them and browsing internet while chatting with friend ? You can ! This thing just can't run out of juice !

Same here, Kudos to Asus! I'm moving on close to 2 months since the release and couldn't be happier...no problems. And, oh so, glad I got the dock/keyboard that really makes it unique and above the rest.
And please with all the card slots, etc. it offers that others don't. Also, pretty impressed that they rolled out the new update in a timely fashion for 3.1, while it looks like other tablets were waiting.
Guess that's why it's reported Asus Transformer is best selling android tablet!
I'm a happy customer and use it every day, all day long most time with a great battery life between it and my keyboard.
I must say that I'm also very pleased with the TF101. There have been lots of other posts/threads which slam them for the light bleed, non-working issues, etc., but really, I think ASUS has done a great job considering that it's their first foray into Android, AND they come with a product that no one else offers (dock functionality). It takes a hell of a lot of QA to make sure that it's ready for production, and despite myself having to return a faulty dock, I also give Kudos to them.
In fact, as I was reporting on my faulty dock issue a while ago, I received a PM from ASUS themselves! They offered to exchange my complete setup for a brand new one (dock, tablet, cables, etc.), however I declined because everything is working great for me once exchanging my faulty dock at the store I purchased it from.
Getting that message and noting that ASUS themselves are watching these boards, as they know we have a great passion for 'pimping out' devices gives me another great feeling.
Has anyone else been in contact by ASUS on XDA?

I, too, love my Transformer plus dock. Mine has no light bleed, no creaking, no problems at all. And I'm a total n00b when it comes to Android, but by reading the manual and the helpful advice here and another forum, I've gotten most or all of my questions answered. If even a beginner like me can feel comfortable, Asus has hit it out of the park.

Mine feels extremely solid, and well built...not sure where the reviewers are getting this unless they were stuck with some bad ones...

Review units are usually from pre-production or 1st production runs, and almost always have disclaimers that they are pre-prodution run review units. It also explains some of the early units that appear on the market having some QA issues.
I have a B05 UK model, and have none of the problems mentioned, it's got fantastic build quality, and my Apple loving boss has last week sold his ipad2 and bought one too after seeing mine+dock.
The days of Apple ruling the roost are long gone, you can get better and cheaper buy buying non-Apple these days. My phone is a HTC that's WAY better than anything Apple make, my tablet is an Asus and ditto....
My tab definitely feels solid too. I don't get all the "cheap" complaints because mine has been just fine and dandy. I do have a little bit of light bleed but it's really only visible when the entire screen is black, and honestly, it's something I can overlook. Just a minor annoyance, and I'll take dealing with it given the price

Have to agree pretty much with all the previous posts here. Have read most all the other posts of complaints and honestly while some were bonafide issues I rather felt some were suffering from too high expectations. My TF is quite probably from the initial release go-round and pretty much has been fine. A few annoyances? Sure. The dock battery drain is troublesome as is the charger (email to Asus was NEVER even acknowledged sad to say) but hoping future software fixes will be forthcoming.
Overall, I'm pleased and impressed.

well I can't tell if I have any light bleeding... I've ran several dead pixel and light bleeding test programs and all of the colors of 100 percent solid. My settings screen and my browser bookmark page look like they have light bleed but several people have told me that is by design.

I am very satisfied as well. I also have the keyboard version and it's not only usefull when writing longer texts (e.g. emails) but it gives the extra boost in battery life which is very welcomed!

I'm thrilled with almost everything about it.
I also own an iPad and can comment without bias. The TF is better in nearly every way (especially the OS). The one area I think the iPad wins is the structural strength. It just feels tougher. I do like the really simple design but unfortunately apple let that spill over into every facet of the device.
TF for the win (especially with prime! 1.5)
Not untill this has netflix,hulu plus, words with friends honeycomb edition and potrait frame rate fix honeycomb tabs would never be an iPad killer

My cousin, a huge apple fan boy, talked trash about my tablet for a while. Then he came over the shoot pool with me yesterday, and he saw my tablet with the keyboard dock, and he was like on nice you got a new netbook? I guess your tablet was not enough.
I told him this is my tablet and then showed him how it works, he was like Sh!t, why cant apple do cool stuff like that!!
"Android" steals the best stuff, and improves on it" I had to laugh at him.

Reality check.
Rational arguments favoring the iPad 2 would include build quality, form factor (half as thick and also lighter), resale value, screen quality (brighter at max, dimmer at min, less reflective), performance (iPad's PowerVR crushes Tegra 2, no problems with 720p h.264 and iOS 5 has no problems even with 1080p h.264 whereas my TF cannot currently decode 720p acceptably, negating for me the advantage of the 16:10 screen). Also consider O/S maturity and reliability (most obviously the default Honeycomb launcher+browser are junk although ADW+Opera are much better, if buggy), the development tools (the Android emulator in particular is laughable - the iPad emulator in XCode is literally ~100x faster), app selection (Netflix an obvious example, there are thousands more), app quality (same app on both platforms is almost always inferior on TF) - in fact I don't see Android app performance ever approaching iOS here on similar hardware due to the overhead imposed by the Dalvik VM. Also, iTunes movies, TV shows, audiobooks etc. are one click away (although you have to pay for them vs torrents/Handbrake etc). Maybe if I had I non-rooted non-wifi-only Xoom I could try Google movies - I wouldn't known since I have an Asus TF and it has not been white-listed yet (BTW this kind of will-it-install/run/work roulette would not fly on the iTunes store). AirPlay, AirPrint and Home Sharing also 'Just Works.'.
I guess none of these arguments 'hold water' to you but if Google, OEMs like Asus and users rationalize away these things I think you can pretty much kiss this platform goodbye.
... which would be unfortunate because the Transformer's advantages are not insignificant - for $100 less (32GB vs 32GB) I get the MicroSD slot (plus SD with the dock) which gives me 64gb swappable storage in addition to the 32gb onboard (vs 64gb total on iPad), Apple's 'walled garden' is breached so I can install 3rd party keyboards, cloud-based music players, launchers, widgets etc. I also don't have to worry about Apple yanking the Kindle app etc for not paying the tithe etc.
I'm pretty savvy when it comes to technological purchases - Unfortunately, I am also WAY TOO anal when it comes to my devices and I like them to look, act, respond, and treat me right...Anyway, over the past several weeks, I have been incredibly torn about which new 10" tablet to purchase and would like to share my journey - Slightly condensed...
It all started with my giving away my beloved XOOM to a close friend - He needed a tablet, limited funds, does a ton of sh*t for me, so off it went - The XOOM Wi-Fi was perfect - A bit heavy? Yes. Kind of outdated with its dual core? Sure. Nevertheless, the screen was crisp, no light bleed, never rebooted itself, and only froze once in 6 months - Not bad.
I needed to buy a new tablet....
Seeing as the XOOM (essentially) isn't for sale, at least mainstream-like, anymore, I first tried....
The ASUS TF700T Infinity - Not bad (internally) but the QC over at ASUS must truly suck! Light bleed around all four corners and 2 sides at the main boot screen, a slight "squeak/creak" when the screen was depressed too firmly, you get the picture. It was fast (enough) for a quad core CPU running ICS, but I found the ASUS tweaks of the FW boring and, coupled with the QC horrors, it went back. I actually exchanged the unit for another, unopened TF700T in the hopes I just got a bad member of some ill-fated batch. WRONG! Number 2 was number 2. Screen/light bleed was actually worse and the screen rippled if I pressed the back of the stupid thing. Well, I have given up on the TF700T and, sorry to say, ASUS as a brand.
Second up was the SONY Xperia Tablet S - Not bad at all - Nice screen, cool tweaked FW out of the box, quad-core, etc., etc., etc. Only slight bleed from 2 corners while I watched a movie but wasn't too bad (even for someone as scrutinizing as myself). But, if you're like me, you NEED a screen protector. You NEED a nice case. So off to Amazon I went and ordered 3 cases, knowing I would return the 2 I decided against. I swear to you all - each case forced me to remove the unit from said case for charging. Nuts! I also started to hate the SONY "water-resistance" covers that I had to pry off to charge the thing (don't bite your nails) and change the full size memory card - The full size memory card was just kind of weird in and of itself...Anyway, while none of this is really SONY's fault (and I DO like their products), back it went along with the other accessories - Oh yeah, maybe it's me (doubtful though) but I could not get a quality screen protector on it to save my life - Bubbles galore!
A week went by....
Still no tablet....
Then I was fuc*i%g around with my Galaxy S II, a phone I have enjoyed for almost eight months and one that has NEVER given me the slightest problem whatsoever and I "remembered"....Hey man! Samsung makes tablets! Right? Hell yeah, they do, and a quick trip to my local BB introduced me to the G-Tab 2 7 and the Note 10.1. I LOVED the price of the 7" tab ($249) but really wanted to stick with a 10" screen. I fiddled with the note and was in love - Not with the $499 tag, but it all looked so damn cool (in the store). Well...Yes. I bought it, Amazon(ed) screen shields and a case from MoKo and off to the races...Again. But, now, with the S-Pen!
First, I was able to find a TON of accessories for the thing from screen protectors to cases. I ordered a 3-pack of the Acase anti-glare shields and the MoKo PU Leather stand case - Admittedly, I screwed up 2 of these protectors - But it's a 3-pack so I had one more shot. With a little more time taken, Scotch tape and compressed air, I got the perfectly cut third one on 100% - And YES! The S-Pen works perfectly with the shield in place. trust me!
Then I slid it into the thoughtfully crafted and well-designed case from MoKo/Amazon and was pleased to see that I didn't even have to open the magnetic flip cover to charge it - AWESOME!
Now...I needed to turn it on (after inserting a nice Class 10 16GB card of course)
Guess what? Screen boots with the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 text in white on a PITCH BLACK screen. yeah - It's black, like it should be. There isn't any light introducing from the corners nor ghostly images emanating from the side. It's just right. Simple, but right.
Like my GS2, it booted past the initial screen quickly and set-up was smooth sailing - An easy root, movie-watching test, quick benchmark (I won by the way) and I knew I had a keeper.
For what it's worth, SAMSUNG continues to earn MY business and will continue to (as long as they keep doing what they do). I don't give a rat's A## what others say is 'acceptable" concerning light bleed, creaking screens, etc. Let's face it. It's NOT acceptable at any level and, for $499 retail, it's also insulting. If one company can do it right, so can another one -

Anyways, wanted to reflect on my experience as well. After 4 weeks of using GN I plan on sending it back next week. I gave it an honest try but iust couldn't get past lag and stutter. I also tried a 2nd unit which had less lag , which was still there though, but had a less responsive pen. I decided to keep unit 1 hoping I can live with it. It's just too annoying to be dealing with random lag especially considering all the horse power this tab packs, so back it goes. I don't wanna take a chance with my $$$ waiting for JB to see if it fixes the lag.
Someone had said on this forum that there's no android tab out there under 500 with no lag. If so and considering GN specs I think it's gotta be android itself then. Hopefully JB fixes it. I'm gonna try Nexus 7 but don't have much confidence in that reading about all the QC issues. If that doesn't work out I may have to sit back and wait for android on tabs to mature a bit. I might consider larger screen on my next phone if it still not there.
I hope my experience is an isolated case. So enjoy your GN if all is working fine.

The issue is not typically Android - it's usually companies like Samsung or HTC or ASUS or whatever that change Android by putting on their "skin" that inevitably slows down and hinders Android. When running vanilla Android on phones and tablets alike, I've never seen lag. ICS, and especially JB, are just speed demons.

The only slight lag i ever noticed on mine was when changing homescreens with the standard clock/weather widget updating ....once i replaced it with HD widgets the lag disappeared...never noticed any lags in progs ...in fact from my point of view this tab is super fast ))
The only lag I have noticed is when trying to type in a website based forum. However I think that is more due to the websites slow servers than the tablet. Typing in Tapapalk is very responsive.
I just wish more of my favorite blogs used Tapatalk.
Good idea for an app. Make an app which allows a user to type into a pop up text box and when done, sends the text all at once to the blog text box.

That's what Windows tablets do. It's called the Tablet Input Panel (TIP). One can make corrections and edit with pen strokes before committing the text to the text box.

That's what Windows tablets do. It's called the Tablet Input Panel (TIP). One can make corrections and edit with pen strokes before committing the text to the text box.

There is in my case. Both tabs had it. I cannot imagine getting 2 "faulty" units in a row. Forgot to mention thst the 2nd unit creaked like crazy, which was another reason I decided to keep the 1st one, til now that is.
I install apps very conservatively. Been actually running the similar set of apps on my GS2 with no issues, on a custom GB rom to be fair though. Ftr, I've got: adobe reader, flash, kindle, color note, crackle, dropbox, engaged, imdb, skies air, shazam, stocks, timeriffic, weather channel, USA today + a few Google apps. Nothing fancy and nothing crazy running in the background. Home screen has 2 pages, Main 1 with 2 widgets like weather for instance, which is set to not periodically refresh and 1 more widget on another page. Some stutter occurs while scrolling in settings app for example and sadly is noticeable even after a full reset.
So it's gotta be a software problem, ie either android on tabs or Samsung's version of it. I simply don't see how such a high end specs and quality wise hardware could be a culprit. And assuming that's the case it can then be fixed. I hope GN will get better for the rest of you and ones with a similar problems. Enjoy your tab.
I enjoyed reading this article. Before purchasing my Note 10.1, I was a firm antagonist of tablets in general. I have a phone; I have a computer; why would I need some awkward middle device that lacked the power if a computer and the functionality of a phone? It wasn't until I was limited to my computer screen (which is a 50" tv in a room with no desk) when doing homework, due to my books being digital, that I knew I needed portability, and a phone is just way too small. I was holding out for a Surface device, but then saw the Note 10.1. After much debate (with the final justification being the price of school books being similar to the cost of this device, AND it would save me much money on paper, pencils and such) I ordered the Note 10.1 on amazon.
It wasn't available for demo in any local stores, so I played around with similar tablets, like the transformer. I was disappointed with the lag and the freezing, which worried me. I realised that that were demo units, so held my final verdict for my new Note when it arrived
Once I received it, I was blown away. Aside from the folder bug, it was flawless ( Samsung quickly came out with a small update ota to fix it within a day or two! ). It ran way fast, had an operational screen time 10 hours on a single charge with heavy use, and was feature rich. Best of all, this was all without any kind of root. Suffice to say, I kept it. Not only has it almost replaced my computer (still need it for Borderlands 2) but I barely use my phone anymore as well. You can now officially call me an android tablet advocate, with the Note 10.1 being my first recommendation.
I also have an iPad 2 which is really nice. But the Note is actually better in most ways. It's faster, and has a really good OEM case, something the iPad lacks, even though I have a very nice case for it (cases are important I think).
Anyway, it's the pen that trumps the iPad.
Got to Love Wacom.
I think i'll buy the LTE version if it ever shows up.

I've gotta also post a response here because I had to say that the performance of my GN is flawless, it is quite amazing how fast and smooth it is - I never expected it to be this good, as they should all be for that matter.
I was so close to ordering a TF700 but decided to wait for a GN.
