this will flash hboot and radio as well. It's currently unrootable, but if you have a visionary brick it will revive it.
If you are looking for /system only (retains S-OFF) go there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074852

Hi all,
I wonder if this can also be loaded "as is" on an european Desire Z...
I'm looking for a simple rom to improve battery life, the stock HTC Sense rom is so hungry...
many thanks
b.

My replacement came with stock 2.3.3 for the G2...It stinks, there are other much better roms out there.

Funny, I rather like the rooted stock GB roms rmk40 and Xboarder56 put out. No problems upgrading for me, as long as I used the "superwipe" on Xboarder's OP.
If you're having battery life issues, a different rom may not help if the problem is bad cell reception or a hardware issue. If it's a background task gone loopy (K9 Mail's background service does that in marginal data coverage areas), then it might help to swap roms. Nandroid is your best friend. Backup early & often.

Is it possible to install that ROM on my Desire Z that I bought in Europe? I'd like to change it.
Thanks,

im in the same boat .. dont know what to do ..
:/
I was hoping that the thread would help me decide!!
I m gonna flash CM6.1 froyo on HTC will be the same experience but faster. its time for something new
I've already Froyo and do miss CM actually, so I'm going for this one, thats for sure!
why there are no news in cyanogenmod website?
I got the link from cyanogenmod website. It's under the nightlies section. Weird but its there
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
are there release notes?
also wondering if i should flash this or wait for official htc froyo...?
I'm waiting for official froyo but maybe I should try this rom. But I have some questions before
Does it have FM radio? It'll be possible with released sources from HTC?
And wifi hotspot support?
Is root necessary? Can you unroot once the rom is installed? Altought temporary root can be useful (like sudo in linux), being always root is a big security hole. I'm not sure if many people understant what being root means in linux (and android).

Not AP, but Ad-Hoc works using barnacle
Yes, it is.
Rooting is not much more of an issue - you still need to specifically give apps superuser permissions
ok so im downloading 2.05 now. willl update to froyo first.
is rooting froyo easier or will i have to downgrade back to 1.31?
hope visionary+ or Z4root work with froyo. that would be a life saver coz download speeds are slow and expensive in my country :S
Anyone compared performance froyo vs CM6.1?

I had the vodafone froyo rom but I flashed CM6.1 as soon as it came out. (used nightlies before)
And CM6.1 is just that bit snappier. If you don't really worry about that split second diffence (but I do) then you should go for Sense (it's nicer )
But I just like a snappy phone (I should have bought the Desire I know )

Yeah, I'm waiting for some feedback. Using MoDaCo's Custom Froyo at the moment. Nothing GREAT, so if CM6.1 is worth it, I will install that.
Let the feedbacks begin!
Just wanted to say that I rooted to Cyanogen before froyo came to the Legend.
All in all I think I prefer it over 2.1 Legend.
It took a few days to get used to and I have missed a few HTC goodies - namely sync and the HTC keyboard (which is suprisingly a mile ahead of the default Android one). But there is a workaround (I've been told) so will give that a try soon.
I'm ever so tempted to give Sense Froyo a go and see what it's like as I don't really have anything to compare it to.
All in all though - I can't really say I've missed Sense too much; I've noticed a few things that stock Android could learn from Sense but on the whole not missed majorly.
If I upgrade to Sense Froyo - can I then root again or am I stuffed?
ta
(oh and rooting was a piece of piss... After I stopped cursing for an hour and realised I needed to downgrade.)

[Q] Lightwieght Froyo Sense ROM..?

Hi,
I'm currently owning a HTC Desire myself, which has been rooted since I first got it. I love exploring ROMs to find out wich one suits me best.
My problem now is that my wife owns a HTC Tattoo (not rooted). Lately it's become filled up and now she can't either install new apps or use the phone in a "normal" way. Everything seems to be really slow...
Of course she can just uninstall a few apps and the problem should be solved, but that's not a solution, that's just avoiding the problem. I've been looking at the ROM list provided at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698576 but the only 2.2 ROM with Sense UI is without working camera.
Is there a ROM out there with Sense and with support for apps2sd? Preferrably lightweight... Does she need 2.2 to get apps2sd?
Thank you!
/Martin
In the this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698576
there are all custom roms for tattoo. I think that most of the roms support apps2sd(not only froyo roms).
Many 1.6 ROMs. A ROM with camera support is 1.6.
What about the HCDR rom?
=)
Im just waiting for the reversed libcamera

[Q] - Just bought Wildfire

Please bare with me.
I just bought Wildfire White. It's on the way to me. It will have 2.1 pre-installed.
What should I do first?
- I want to have one of these custom ROMs (which one is best?)

I want it to be OC-able. I hear that I need custom kernel for that. Well what do I have to do to get custom kernel.
Is there some guide that will tell me all this?
I would not.reccomend the first one (cm7) since it is not even alpha
if you like htc sense go for the new wildpuzzle not the chinese one
if you dont like sense go for cm6 but make sure to flash the maps and market file as well
note thease files may break your device.rendering it useless. You are responsible for your actions. This will also void your warantee. If you dont want that to happen then use the 2.2 ota but you will not be able to root or flash a custom rom. If in doubt stay on 2.1

lol, Dont scare him.
Well, first and foremost, I would recommend you read this guide completely:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
After that, when you have rooted your phone, you can decide on the Custom ROM yourself. They are broadly categorized into 2 categories : Sense ROMs and Non-Sense ROM's/ (Sense is the default HTC UI). Then, you have to decide whether you want a Sense ROM or one without it, and, go about it accordingly. (Generally, Non-Sense ROMs are faster, since Sense requires a lot of processing power)
As for CM7, even though it is Alpha, I would recommend you try it out. I am using it as a daily use ROM, and, its perfectly fine.
I'm currently using cm7 night release 0. I think. Its great. There are a few bugs but nothing. That effects the phone at user level.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
cm7 is great!!! the nightlies work perfectly ;D, very good for what you call an 'alpha' release ahahaha, and why stay on eclair or froyo, when you can have some gingerbread action
Still i would rather wait for a beta or rc release

CM7 Nightly 0 is almost perfect, pretty much everything works
Its personal taste anyway im stuck whith hboot 1.01 and am now wanting to try cm7 fail on my part

after that, you should play with your phone till you run-down.

Try CM7 nighty build, i rooted my phone this month itself and the first ROM i ever put was the CM7 ROM and trust me i havent even looked around for other Custom ROMs, its fast, looks very good and all apps work on em..
Cheers, btw dont forget to read Turkey's Guide to Rooting..
OC is not stable,even 4.1.。。
CM7 build 23
so yea i figured out everything im not big fan of alpha roms so ill stick to sense roms for a while. i will surely move on to cyanogen mod later
i'm using cm nightly build 21. working just fine.
there was an issue in 18 but 21 is just fine. i have tried out almost all of roms for wildfire, and i found CM 7 to b the best of all.
No... I'd recommend wildpuzzle v0.8 first to get comfortable with first since it has all the capabilities of overclocking is stable although not recommended to wildly over the 700mhz mark and everything else.
Gingerbread is a big and not stable yet a little complicated to setup.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
i'm loving my wildpuzzle v.08,overclocked and super stable, i like sense too much
Cm 7 is very good I can confirm this. I am using build 16, everything works fine but I found it unstable overclocked over 700 on my wildfire.

Reminder dont update to official 2.2 (Froyo)
or u will not be able to flash any custom rom like me

[Q] Cons of installing Roms

Specifically Ice Glacier and CM6 and 7.
I know the Pros but I searched all over the place and can't find some Cons. I know CM6 doesn't allow access to front facing camera. Is this true for 7 and Ice Glacier?
What other things might not work?
TIA
P.S. I am rooted. I just don't have the guts to Flash a rom yet.

I am running cm7 nightly #37 I think and the only thing that I am noticing is that my ringtones dont stick after I do a reboot. Other than that I use Tango and the front facing cam does work. I dont see any other things that are not working. I have been running this only for a couple days and maybe not seeing other things not working. All in all the rom is fast and I am loving some gingerbread!! Do a nandroid backup so you can always go back if you want.
There are zero cons to installing ROMs. CM7 is just fantastic.

Froyo vs Gingerbread, I think, but don't quote that as I don't run a CM ROM.
With any ROM you will roll the dice on what will/won't work for you. I have had absolutely zero issues using the Ice Glacier ROM in my sig. However, if you read recent posts in the thread for it, some people still experience issues with things like WiFi, slowdowns, battery drain, etc. Not all silicone is created equal. Just backup your current stuff and flash something to see how it works on your phone. Doesn't run well, has some issues? Pick a new ROM or restore backup.
cm 7 is based on Gingerbread -- Android 2.3. Numerous changes, Google for them.
Big con to any ROM...bricked phone through user error, user stupidity, user ignorance... Take your pick. The risk is low but it exists. Manage and mitigate it through careful study and a firm grasp of the procedures to be used.

It is extremely difficult to permanently brick your phone. The only way I know how to do it is to flash the wrong kind of radio, which you normally don't even have to worry about flashing.
Let's see... there's a thread in this very subforum where someone damaged the partition table of their internal flash drive, and lost /system, and could find no way to recover:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952272
The root cause may have been from pulling the battery at an inopportune moment, and the OP gave up before exhausting all options, but the phone is logically bricked.
Hardly any unless you're not careful with instructions. CM7 RC1 is fantastic.
Does anyone see problems with 4G coverage with a newer rom, or is HSDPA not a concern?

The stock ROM and those based on it do not differentiate between 3G and any faster network. All are indicated with an "H". CM displays UMTS as "3G".
HTC Glacier CM7 41
Only cons are you void your warranty and you could screw something up if you aren't careful. Playing around in non-userspace is only for the well-informed.
Arguably, you could consider it a con that your ROM isn't officially signed by the manufacturer/carrier and that it's not "official," but I don't see it that way. A good dev team like Cyanogen's is probably just as good, if not better, and they can roll out updates much much faster. Nightly, in fact
FWIW, I was one of the few who did experience problems when flashing (CM7 in my case). Each time I flashed, I would lose more and more functionality on the physical buttons on the front of the camera.
- First flash, "back" starts acting flaky (doesn't work sometimes, sometimes requires long-press to work).
- Second flash (to try to fix the problem), back button no longer works, "menu" is now flaky.
- Third flash, menu is gone. Somewhere in there the genius button also stopped working.
ClockworkMod Recovery's key test showed that the system wasn't even seeing the keypresses. Sounds like a hardware problem, I know, but the changes noted occurred only when I flashed. Also, when I reflashed with the stock MT4G ROM, I got the menu button back (but not the back button).
All that said, a) I searched high and low and couldn't find any reports of anything similar, and b) TMo switched the phone out with a new one with no questions asked.
It's not all user error, and it's not all hardware. It's a combination, and like others have said you have to try it out to see. If you read enough threads on this forum, you will find negatives about everything. Do the research so you know what not to do, and the rest is up to trial and error. The variables around which people judge ROMs are so complex that the vast majority of information is opinion. Just make sure you give any ROM a couple of days before you really form your own.
Biggest cons for me when I first started flashing ROMs on my old MT3G was that sometimes stuff wouldn't work. Wifi issues or GPS might be buggy or battery drain. 9/10 issues can be fixed with a reboot or just wait for the next nightly to arrive.
I love flashing ROMs. I'm on CM7 RC1 and before that was Nightly #35. I had my MT4G for 7hrs before it was rooted and CM7 on it.
You're already rooted and most of the time thats when people break their ****. So get Clockwork Mod and Nand backup, flash and rock out!!!!!!
Most of the "danger" is in the actual rooting process, flashing ROMs and mods can at most cause an inconvenience.
Any time the radio firmware or hboot (bootloader) is flashed or modified, that is where the danger of a true bricked device that can not be fixed occurs.

[Q] 2.2.1 Iced Glacier to Rooted 2.3.4 FootBall ROM Help

It's been a while since I have messed with Root on my phone since putting on Iced Glacier 1.6 for 2.2.1 Android for my MyTouch 4G.
So I need a little help or clarification.
Following this post directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175536
I updated to the 2.3.4 ROM and for some reason occasionally get the phone showing the "MyTouch" white screen after exiting an app.
Also get "MySense" failed to load or forceclosed when starting up the phone. I think that is what it says...
I re-installed my apps using Titanium Backup, but I think I am missing a few even though I made a full App and System back up the night before doing any of this new ROM rooting. I also did a "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager.
1: Is Footballs the most basic stable rooted ROM out right now?
Or what is recommended for battery length and smoothness?
2: How does Virtuous Unity compare in stability and speed and battery life compared to other ROMs right now?
I liked Iced Glacier for it's baseness and speed and lack of bloat-ware and I don't change ROMs often. I want one that works and is stable and I want to stick to it.
Not wanting to brick my phone moving to new stuff.
My other big question is:
After installing Footballs Rooted ROM, I still get the 2.3.4 OTA update reminder.
How do I remove that ????
And yes I did a lot of searching before posting this in order to refresh my brain but could not find a precise answer...
So thank you to anyone that can help with these questions and steer me in the right direction.......
I run virtuous unity on one of my my touch 4gas and it is stable and all functions work including tango,,, love the fact there is no bloatware.

It all depends on what you like actually. For a stable rom that you will stick with for awhile that is just like the update to 2.3.4 without the bloat. I would recommend GenerationX v5, its the most up to date rooted/debloated stock version. If you like sense, but not mysense. They Virtuous Unity 1.29 seems to be the favorite stable right now. Keep in mine there are AOSP roms out there like faux's and cm7 that people enjoy as well which are excellent speeds and awesome battery life over stock type roms.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm honestly not sure what the difference between Sense and MySense is since I don't keep up with this stuff anymore.
And if I flash one of the ROMs I of course need to make a full wipe and then install. will this erase the homepage icons and need to re-install all my apps again ?
Like i said before i'm not looking for flashy themes, just no issues & good battery life & speedy response when doing things on the phone.
Thanks again for the help....
