[Q] 2.2.1 Iced Glacier to Rooted 2.3.4 FootBall ROM Help - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's been a while since I have messed with Root on my phone since putting on Iced Glacier 1.6 for 2.2.1 Android for my MyTouch 4G.
So I need a little help or clarification.
Following this post directions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175536
I updated to the 2.3.4 ROM and for some reason occasionally get the phone showing the "MyTouch" white screen after exiting an app.
Also get "MySense" failed to load or forceclosed when starting up the phone. I think that is what it says...
I re-installed my apps using Titanium Backup, but I think I am missing a few even though I made a full App and System back up the night before doing any of this new ROM rooting. I also did a "Fix Permissions" in ROM Manager.
1: Is Footballs the most basic stable rooted ROM out right now?
Or what is recommended for battery length and smoothness?
2: How does Virtuous Unity compare in stability and speed and battery life compared to other ROMs right now?
I liked Iced Glacier for it's baseness and speed and lack of bloat-ware and I don't change ROMs often. I want one that works and is stable and I want to stick to it.
Not wanting to brick my phone moving to new stuff.
My other big question is:
After installing Footballs Rooted ROM, I still get the 2.3.4 OTA update reminder.
How do I remove that ????
And yes I did a lot of searching before posting this in order to refresh my brain but could not find a precise answer...
So thank you to anyone that can help with these questions and steer me in the right direction.......

I run virtuous unity on one of my my touch 4gas and it is stable and all functions work including tango,,, love the fact there is no bloatware.

It all depends on what you like actually. For a stable rom that you will stick with for awhile that is just like the update to 2.3.4 without the bloat. I would recommend GenerationX v5, its the most up to date rooted/debloated stock version. If you like sense, but not mysense. They Virtuous Unity 1.29 seems to be the favorite stable right now. Keep in mine there are AOSP roms out there like faux's and cm7 that people enjoy as well which are excellent speeds and awesome battery life over stock type roms.

Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm honestly not sure what the difference between Sense and MySense is since I don't keep up with this stuff anymore.
And if I flash one of the ROMs I of course need to make a full wipe and then install. will this erase the homepage icons and need to re-install all my apps again ?
Like i said before i'm not looking for flashy themes, just no issues & good battery life & speedy response when doing things on the phone.
Thanks again for the help....

Since there isnt a Q&A section can i get help here.....
i just rooted my mytouch 3g that was running on 1.6 with one click root...works fine i guess....havent put the recovery yet but i will try this later my question is.........
which is the best and fastest rom out there for mytouch 3g 32b??
cyanogen?
superd?
please help thanks!!!
U need to put on amonra 1.7.0 for the recovery. There is also a new radio img. 2.22.23.02. Find that and flash it. I'm running chromatic 4.3. Its a 2.2(froyo) Rom. It is stupid fast and slick. Its in the g1 development section.
Sent from my Chromatic Magic using XDA App
Personally I avoid using anything with the Cyanogen Mod kernel. My ROM of choice is Jubeh's Froyo ROM, it's basically just AOSP froyo w/ root, that's it. It's super responsive, and with the stock launcher, the occasional reload only takes a couple of seconds.
how do i do the same thing youve done?? im using cyanogen 5.8 and with the goole add ons,, but it still doesnt log into my google account or have android market,, cant put linda file manager on it,,, need to find a OS that i want to use everyday,, please help!!
I'm running CM 6 at this moment runs smooth , for the market just install
gapps-mdpi-tiny-20100816-signed.zip . The only which won't run smooth is aptoide .

Why do you avoid CM? Do you have a link to Jubeh's FroYo ROM? I'm looking for something very minimal, fast, and close to stock.

[Q] - Just bought Wildfire

Please bare with me.
I just bought Wildfire White. It's on the way to me. It will have 2.1 pre-installed.
What should I do first?
- I want to have one of these custom ROMs (which one is best?)

I want it to be OC-able. I hear that I need custom kernel for that. Well what do I have to do to get custom kernel.
Is there some guide that will tell me all this?
I would not.reccomend the first one (cm7) since it is not even alpha
if you like htc sense go for the new wildpuzzle not the chinese one
if you dont like sense go for cm6 but make sure to flash the maps and market file as well
note thease files may break your device.rendering it useless. You are responsible for your actions. This will also void your warantee. If you dont want that to happen then use the 2.2 ota but you will not be able to root or flash a custom rom. If in doubt stay on 2.1

lol, Dont scare him.
Well, first and foremost, I would recommend you read this guide completely:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824396
After that, when you have rooted your phone, you can decide on the Custom ROM yourself. They are broadly categorized into 2 categories : Sense ROMs and Non-Sense ROM's/ (Sense is the default HTC UI). Then, you have to decide whether you want a Sense ROM or one without it, and, go about it accordingly. (Generally, Non-Sense ROMs are faster, since Sense requires a lot of processing power)
As for CM7, even though it is Alpha, I would recommend you try it out. I am using it as a daily use ROM, and, its perfectly fine.
I'm currently using cm7 night release 0. I think. Its great. There are a few bugs but nothing. That effects the phone at user level.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
cm7 is great!!! the nightlies work perfectly ;D, very good for what you call an 'alpha' release ahahaha, and why stay on eclair or froyo, when you can have some gingerbread action
Still i would rather wait for a beta or rc release
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
CM7 Nightly 0 is almost perfect, pretty much everything works
Its personal taste anyway im stuck whith hboot 1.01 and am now wanting to try cm7 fail on my part
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Would recomend de_version_4.a but then again that's my Rom lol
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
first of all root your new toy
after that, you should play with your phone till you run-down.
http://unrevoked.com/#wildfire
Try CM7 nighty build, i rooted my phone this month itself and the first ROM i ever put was the CM7 ROM and trust me i havent even looked around for other Custom ROMs, its fast, looks very good and all apps work on em..
Cheers, btw dont forget to read Turkey's Guide to Rooting..
OC is not stable,even 4.1.。。
CM7 build 23
so yea i figured out everything im not big fan of alpha roms so ill stick to sense roms for a while. i will surely move on to cyanogen mod later
i'm using cm nightly build 21. working just fine.
there was an issue in 18 but 21 is just fine. i have tried out almost all of roms for wildfire, and i found CM 7 to b the best of all.
No... I'd recommend wildpuzzle v0.8 first to get comfortable with first since it has all the capabilities of overclocking is stable although not recommended to wildly over the 700mhz mark and everything else.
Gingerbread is a big and not stable yet a little complicated to setup.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
i'm loving my wildpuzzle v.08,overclocked and super stable, i like sense too much
Cm 7 is very good I can confirm this. I am using build 16, everything works fine but I found it unstable overclocked over 700 on my wildfire.

Reminder dont update to official 2.2 (Froyo)
or u will not be able to flash any custom rom like me

2.3 for Legend

i'm not really a noob but noob to the Legend, i used to have Xperia X10 and HTC HD2 and it was easy to root and installing ROMs
now i have this Legendary Legend and i want to root it and install different ROMs i'm currently running 2.2, radio-7.13.35.05, and on the boot it says
LEGEND PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.01.0000
MICROP-0816
TOUCH PANEL-SYN07_0105
i've been reading the stickies foe awhile but i didnt know what is the difference between S-ON and OFF and if 2.2 is rootable or i have to downgrade to 2.1 and if i have to root this HBOOT thing!! actually i'm lost!! one last thing what is the best ROM for Legend? is there 2.3 or CM7 out for it?
P.S. excuse my poor english
why did you post 2 same thread???
maybe it's a forum lagg, and it was like "double posting"
It looks like you're in the same situation I was! Here's how I rooted, in laymans terms.
1. Turned my SD card into a goldcard.
2. Flashed a pre-rooted 2.1 ROM using the stock recovery method.
3. Downloaded CM6.1, placed it on my memory card.
4. Did a little messing around with ROM Manager, ended up doing the stuff I explained in this thread instead which worked just fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=962357
5. Flashed CM6.1 (which was buggy as hell).
6. Downloaded blay0's ROM, placed it on my memory card.
7. Repeated step 4 and flashed blay0's ROM.
Please note that blay0's ROM is 2.2 and not 2.3.
In regards to ROMs, personally I love blay0's b 0.7 ROM, it runs like a dream. It's not too far away from the Sense UI and it isn't buggy as hell for me like CM6.1 is... Haven't tried CM7 yet so I can't say, but TheGrammarFreak (a respected regular here) shows praise for it.

Yes, but the good news is that none of the rom (legit or custom) has it as well.

What about the Lite version of Flash which HTC ship with the Legend? If that's still present I might just switch to CM7.

It isn't.
CM can't legally include it because they don't have a licence to redistribute it, don't want to since they don't have access to the source, and even if they could and wanted to, it probably requires the sense framework, so technically it would still be somewhere between "impossible" and "damn inconvenient".
If you use Rom Manager it can install CM7 its pretty good for me my last rom was b0.5 which was great but im loving CM7 way more
If you really want 2.3 use CM7 - it's still beta but it's very stable and does everything I ask it to do, if you want a stock(ish) 2.2 then Blay0's ROM is sweet.
yep, I would also recommend cm7. and it's only partly true that it has no flash - I downloaded it from applanet and works perfectly fine with embedded youtube videos and ads (although I don't want the latter)
CM7 works great. Why do you need flash lite? I haven't missed it once when I owned an iPhone and I haven't missed it in CM7, nor did I use it with the stock rom. Youtube works anyway and if you must, Skyfire plays most flash videos fine as well.

[Q] HTC Magic 32B recommended ROM's

Hi there, HTC Magic user here.
I've gone back to stock ROMs for a bit but lately I've been wanting to go back to a rooted phone.
My previous experience with Cyanogenmod 5 and 6 has been terrible, the phone ran slow and even completely stock there would be either launcher restarts after running even the messaging app or app force closes if the launcher was kept in memory. The only ROM's that worked well were 1.6 based ones but of the three that most people use, they all have problems which make them difficult to use in the long run.
tl;dr What ROM's are you using with your 32B Magic and what optimisations do you do to stop lag and memory overflows happening?
Ezgingerbread (link in my sig) is what I usually use. Its pretty light and fast.
If you want as many cm features as possible while still having some speed try cos-ds.
If you really like cm features, there's greenromproject cm7 or anotger cm7 rom who's name I can't remember. I haven't used those yet so I can't say anything about speed there.
And these are all gingerbread roms. Idk what to suggest for other versions.. I got into android right before cm6.1

Nope. There are gingerbread roms for every radio. If you are talking about the 2708+ radio then I would recommended it for the extra ram
I'm currently running Ginger Yoshi 1.2 and love it. I've used CM 5.0.8, CM6, Ginger Yoshi 1.1 and now 1.2. All have worked great on my phone. The one thing for me is that I wipe everything...everytime. To include my SD card manually. I save my files on my computer and put them back after I load up the ROM.

Search is your friend
If your phone is rooted you could always get Rom Manager Free from the Market and get the rom of your choice. I use CyanogenMod-6.0.0-DS and the phone runs great. It's actually the only ROM my phone has been able to handle fully with no issues. OS 2.2 is the highest I would put on the MT3G. I've tried Yoshi's, EzTerry, Greenrom, etc.. and all either had issues or just wouldn't work.
Search in this forum, RC Magic V7, SFM 1.2 sense 2.1 (Its great recomended), or clean magic (Fast). All whit htc sense! I tested all and work greats!

I've tried biffmod, gingeryoshi and few others before them, unfortunately each left me wanting to try another rom. Now I'm on froyobylaszlo I simply don't have that yearning for another rom anymore, and I suppose that says it all. I think I made a couple of tweaks but nothing major(can't remember though!) and it runs great, very smooth and fast.
Only issue I have is running speedtest, where it reboots occasionally.

Thanks for that, but they're both 32A ROMs.
My phone is the 32B and only has 192mb of RAM so I don't think they'd run

[Q] What is the fastest rom for mytouch 3g?

I helped a friend of mine root her mytouch 3g and load a custom rom in it but she says it is really slow and it crashes a lot, the rom I used is the lastest version of cynogenmod, can anyone recommend any other faster and stable rom?
By latest version of CM do you mean 6 or 7? Either way, I would recommend overclocking. Search overclock in the market.

If you are talking about cyanogenmod 6, it was very stable and silky smooth for the mt3g. If you are talking about cm7, there is not an official release and the ports I have tried, while good, were not always stable. If you want to stay on cyanogenmod, I would definitely wipe and go back to version 6 which was the last stable release.
Take a look in the development thread here, there are many good roms for the my3g. I have YoshiGingerbread 1.2 on my mt3g and love it. You can overclock it from within the rom settings which also helps a lot.
eh the gingerbread yoshi looks a bit difficult. i'm gonna try cyanagen 6.1 stable. right now i'm running cyanogen 5.0 i think.
I have 6.1.0 DS on my MT3g "Fender". Ill just say this now, i am currently looking for an alternative ROM as i have noticed that after using it for about a month, it starts to act all funky. Some examples are when first booting, phone will hang on checking SD card contents. Another example would be clicking an icon for one app(ex. Gmail) and it would open a different app (ex Messaging)
I JUST TONIGHT factory reset my phone and its running much better, but this was about an hour ago, and currently its working its little ass off to sync all my apps back.
Also i found that when i installed CM6.1 the kernel included gave it that 'greenish tint' im sure you may experience or read about. I believe i have the kernel from the CM 5.?. My apologies as to my somewhat vague facts, it was a while ago and im not ROOT/ROM expert.
Hope my rambling at least helped you out a bit.

Depends on what you want. If youwant a fast and stable gingerbread I'd suggest ezgingerbread. If you wan HTC sense use senselx. If you want froyo then people seem to like froyobylazlo(never used it.)
And I don't recommend overclocking. I'm underclocked to 480mhz and it feels no different than when i oc to 537
FWIW I've just installed COS-DS (was using CM6.1 307 nightly) and I'm LOVING it... even though quadrant scores are slightly lower (was getting 388ish and now 380ish) the phone feels faster.
For example, when I go to applications>manage applications, I used to have to wait around 30 seconds for the list to populate with all icons and get sorted alphabetically, now it's almost instant.
I haven't had any issues so far, COS-DS has been getting good reviews in the developers forum. I recommend it (so far).
My phone:
