How has the Samsung Omnia 7 held up since its launch?? - Omnia 7 General

I've been interested in WP7 since it was first unveiled but I held off to see how things panned out. However, my current phone is in an awful state and really needs replacing so I'm thinking maybe it is time to jump ship and check out WP7. I'm really interested in the Omnia 7 and I can get one at a really decent price compared to other WP7 phones. Anyway, I was just wondering how people are getting on with the phone and the OS in general? Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!

Hi there.
Well im still very happy with my Omnia 7, had it for 4 month now. The screen is insaine and with the 16gb version i have at least ok memory. I dare to say that this is the best phone i had. Existence should be pretty long also since the up coming patch Mango, vill accelerate the phone to max speed/potential. So for me buying it rather early, i expect to get a lot of milage on it and probebly a feeling of new phone again.
My friend have a LG Optimus 7 and with NoDo patch onboard, my Omnia smokes his phone in performance.
Now, is ALL good in happy land? Naa, not fully, there are 2 downers on it. Both are related to same problems, my Galaxy SII friend have it also so ita Samsung related accprding to me.
The problem is operator dependble. Here in Sweden Omnia 7 works great on all operators exept our biggest one. Again, my own words, the big one here have exclusives on the Edge network. And it seems Samsung phones have problems with that. So second and last issue is of internet that also gets affected to and gives slow internet loads and buffers.
In short...
Phone is great, the best of em...
Choose operator, or if you say carrier , carfully
Result = Stabile, fast wonderfull phone thats gone make you fall out the chair everytime you start a HD movie in 720p... cant be told. Experience it.
Only WP7 Phones that will be better then a Omnia 7, is probably Nokia. But there no Nokia phones untill Christmas Holidays, so if you cant wait. I higly recommend Omnia 7 above any phone on market.
Now, os wise? All i miss is copy/paste in to phone dialer, after mango there should be no missing for me. But darnit, im typing from my Omnia now and since i cant put it down, ever, my thumbs hurt. So somebody else will have to fill you in on OS experience. But think about choise of carrier and you wont be let down hardware wise. Its super smooth.
Best regards
Mr Nakazul

On my third omnia 7 currently! First two developed faults >.< When it works its a cracking phone!!! The screen is superb. But currently the whole nodo update malarkey is causing so much hasstle! Still on 7008. But this should all pass soon and I still highly recomend

Had mine since release in November and I can't complain about it really.
The only downside for me is the debacle with the updates. I've still not received the 7392 security update and MS have given no date to when Orange customers can expect it which is a bit of a farce.
The handset itself though is great. Gorgeous screen, solid construction, great camera. WP7 is fantastic as well, so responsive and intuitive.
The only other handset i'd look at currently would be the LG Optimus 7.

Agree with all of that , considering debranding to get Mango without a big delay

Im really happy with my Omnia 7 too.
I moved from HTC Touch HD with custom ROM to WP7, and so far do not regret it.
My phone also had a hardware fault, the screen went black after only 1 day.
Since Samsung repaired it (and luckily I got the lates ROM), it is working very reliable. When I got the phone back 2 weeks ago, I connected to Zune, and voila no problems updating to 7392 (I have a Telekom.de branded phone with 16GB).
I found replacements for almost all apps on the Touch HD, only a decent offline navigation app is missing. Navigon Select was preinstalled, but I am on T-Mobile AUSTRIA, so it won't work. Thats somehow stupid, but T-Mobile Austria isnt selling the Omnia 7, so this might be the reason.

How many of you have replace your X1 with other device

Hi Guys,
I am a X1 owner since Apr 09, when I bought it seems like dream come true. But as time goes by I am really disappointed with the built quality, the glossy coating of d-pad button is peeling off. I've been thinking to replace my X1 with other device/brand.
I just want to know: how many of you guys have replace your X1 with other device within first 6 months of usage?
Cheers
I'm happy with it, I can't see why so many people are always moaning.
Actually I am very ok with it, just that the keyboard is failing me for the second time... its kinda pissing me off...

+1 .
Think the polls should be either "yes" or "no" cause im not keeping till death do us part - nor do i think its a piece of crap.
I'm waiting till my cotracts finished then will confisder the x2
No problem, keeping it til' death do us appart
seems that death did us apart too soon
nice phone though. i'm using it only as a 3G Modem
in the begining i wasnt to impressed with the x1a that i have and kind of regret buying such an expensive phone but after a year of having it, i think it is about equal to any other phone out on the market today.
im still on the original rom, i have tom tom, skyfire, opera mini 4.2 and 5.0, ae button plus and it does just about everything i need it to do.
i was considering a new phone but the x1a is doing everything that i need it to do. i have not had any cracked issues but i did notice that the outer bottom square ring of the dpad has chipped but not gotten any worse. i think i can wait another year for another phone and by that time, the new phone should be a real upgrade in software and hardware.
I'm thinking about replacing mine when it is dead.
It is a nice phone with so much potential but I am really upset with Sony Ericsson on the way that they have treated their X1 customers....given that I got mine about April this year I was expecting Sony to at least provide us with the 6.5 upgrade but that looks like never going to happen..
Mr Frog....
I'll have my X1 well into the first half of 2010. Still waiting on an Android 2.0 thats a complete package. I can wait though, WildChilds WM6.5 ROMs have breathed new life into my X1.

Sony Ericsson has never given a free OS upgrade for their phones ever, only minor firmware updates. I still don't know why people were expecting one for the X1.
I'm waiting for quad core X22.
The X1 works for me with a few tweaks.
there are 2 categories of xperia users
1) you kept the stock rom and did no customization, therefore you hate the phone because it's extremely laggy and it freezes alot
or
2) you reflashed your rom with a faster custom rom, therefore the phone is more interesting and more bearable
i was in your position abuot 2 months ago was planning to sell the x1 and pick up the htc hero, but after i reflashed my rom with a custom rom(Touch-IT Xperience v16_Build21055_wm6.1) the phone seems to be 1000x times better imo

That is not the RULE.
Mine X1 has 10 months and on stock ROM is not laggy at all.
I flashed it. I love it, but it has flaws. Keyboard has become buggy (like on y old AT&T Tilt) and cracks are displeasing but not important to me.
No device is perfect, but I do not need to upgrade anytime soon. I am thinking of just buying a new keyboard ($40) and a new frame ($80) and making it like new again.
Nothing else (except the Droid) has me intrigued. When droid is available in US 3G I'll consider it, but until then I am keeping my X1.

HD2 Shall I Get?????

Afternoon all
I have been reading all the reviews about this amazing phone but have a small concern, I can upgrade/swap provider next month shall i get the HD2 or will someting better come out in say 3-5 months and do you think WM7 will come to the HD2??
No matter what you get, something better will always come along in a few months time. If you worry about that you'll never end up getting anything I'm afraid. I just got the HD2 yesterday on SIM free, having come from the iphone 3G. Have to say, overall I'm impressed with the HD2, probably not quite as polished as the iphone, but you can do a lot more with it. Think of it more in terms of a small laptop rather than a phone.
I've never had a windows mobile before, and I must admit it's taking some time to get my head around it and get things set up, but am getting there now I think. Certainly one of the hardest phones I used in terms of getting it set up right, but then there are so many features and settings. It'll be worth it in the end I'm sure. PLus the guys on here have been a HUGE help. Certainly the best and most useful phone and gadget forum I've been on. There's an answer for just about everything on here.
just buy it, its the best phone experiance i've ever had!

fully agree on this as well
HD2 does have some bugs but I've never seen a phone / device without bugs. Update to WM 7 has neither been approvid nor declined officially but fact is that from hardware specification is should be able to deal with WM 7.
You need to commit at some point - as usual along the whole life - so either you go for HD2 or you can wait for the next 3 - 5 month and get then your favourite device which will probabely be better than HD2 to some extent but be ensured that only some months after your purchasing you will be facing new devices better than the one you've got.
Cheers,
LEE
p.s after having this great peace of hardware/software for one month, I would go for that today again....
It's a great phone, there's nothing out there yet that I would swap this phone for.

Not strictly true. I contacted HTC directly who assured me that there will be a free update for windows mobile 7 on the HD2 when it is released. However, they did say that Windows mobile 7 will not be released until towards the end of 2010. Knowing how these things get delayed it'll be more likely early 2011 then
Thanks for all the quick answers my mind is made up will get one when my contract is up and moving to o2 UK
Just one more thing i have a diamond and the battery life if very bad if the HD2 any better i hope so cos can only use it as a mp3 player for about 3hrs then battery is dead

Is it worth holding onto the HD2?

Currently I own the Tmobile HD2.
I love it and think that it's a great device.
Still a lot is making me wonder if it's worth holding on to with WM7 coming out and Android OS out.
So many people reply to this by saying:
"XDA developers are going to port Android and WM7 to it"
Still, I can't help but feel that there are SO MANY developers out there giving reason why it can't happen, won't happen, will never happen. I hate to see that the machine that is up to par with the Nexus one has no chance of being updated OFFICIALLY AND UNOFFICIALLY. So what's the point of holding on to it? Why keep this device when more than likely within this year it will be pretty much void to any further programs for Windows Mobile 7. Can people here explain why would it be worth holding on to?
Beacause mine is on contract, haha.
I was tempted to go for HTC Desire. But considering I spend quite a big sum for this phone, I supposed I should hold on to it a little longer, at least untill end of this year.
Another thing is, while it does contain great hardware, no one is optimizing their programs for it. TCPMP is a great all around player that does not take advantage of the HD2 hardware.
my advice would be...if you like or love the phone keep it...a phone is special in its own ways...android/wm7 may or may not come...but something else could come out...and if you love the phone ,the interface shouldnt bother you...
there are many ppl who are trading their nexus one for the hd2 cuz you cant put wm in nexus...all phones are not perfect

If you like the phone for what it is NOW, keep it. If you only have the phone for what you hope it will do in the future, get rid of it now while it's still worth a lot. There will be plenty of devices coming out that will be as good or better for every other OS out there, so go with what OS you want. I personally want a WinMo device, and the HD2 could quite possibly be one of the last great WinMo 6.5 devices made, so I'm quite happy owning it. I don't care if they port android or WP7 to it. It would be great to play with them, but WinMo is my OS for now.

I had my Desire for a whole day before taking it back and returning to my hd2.. The android os was fantastic but the phones hardware was poor. I.e chassis and screen.. (not the snapdragon) I couldn't live with the screen issues where it makes things that should be grey, pink....
Going to stick with the hd2 for a while now.. If not my original one as I have just chopped it in for a new one. I really look after my devices but now i can compare my original one (received on release) with my new one I have noticed the buttons have really lost there "click" they feel very spongy after 6 months..
Really hoping we seen android on the hd2 soon!
I am keeping mine 100% ... I have been using Android, Symbian and now HD2 and gotta say (recently installed SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.3) and must admit - it is a hardware beast. I am interested to see this phone running dual boot WMN and Android - until then I will play with SPB Mobile Shell... Oh yeah - almost forgot... in next couple of years I'll sel it back home (European country) for bunch of euros and get another good phone of that time lol...
i would like to see webos on the hd2. i bought an hd2 telstra because i can run the apps that i have on my sony x1a and for its larger screen but the hd2 is a humungus beast. i like the form factor of the palm pre plus and may pick one up when it comes out on at&t. i do think wm is kind of a dying breed... especially if wm7 programs will not be backwards compatible.
Impulse
I woke up yesterday morning. Surf to look for a new present for myself (which falls today) and contemplating on Nexus One, iPhone or Milestone (Droid). Saw an advert on Touch HD. Looked at Touch HD2. Contacted the guy selling at 8am and bought it at 10am. Now my HD2 is 1 day old w me.
So far? Its much better than iPhone in terms of smoothness of transition and app (love snapdragon) and image quality. (my bro had the iphone so i compared) Could use a bigger batt. (have been using HP 910c and that has the big battery option at 1940mAh)
My personal opinion. Love it. Its nice.

Dell Venue Pro - UK Release - DELAYED :(

Looks like there is major issues with getting parts for these new phones, wifi issues and no expandable Micro SD (without voiding warranty).. DVP has been delayed till January 2011 in UK.
I'm feeling a little sorry for MS at moment, they've put alot of work in to this OS and they have been really let down by there handset Partners. Should have gone with one phone and one manufacturer like the G1 and the Iphone 1.0, got a platform that worked and a good handset.... then developed from there. MS's partners have saturated the market with bad handsets and it would seem they done have the stock to sell them either. Orange UK always seems to be out of stock on their online store.
What they seem to have is the titanic, great in theory but due to substandard build quality it will sink.
I've been looking forward to a qwerty phone for a while, had the SPV E650 with Wimo 5.0 and loved it.... but im really doubting the build of these new phones... that being said played with an Omnia 7 the other day and thought it was great....
Here's the acticle I got my info about delays from.. take a read if you like and post any thoughts you may have.
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/dell-venue-pro-delayed-in-the-uk-due-to-component-supply
We've known that for a few days, it's been discussed in other threads (the UK delay I mean).
Otherwise I totally agree with you about Microsoft being let down by manufacturers, they just went for minimum specs and we just have ok WP7 devices (a couple of 16GB phones and no 32GB, are you serious?). I am particularly disappointed in HTC as they usually create amazing phones. I guess that's why people are excited about the Venue Pro, it seems to be clearly above the rest.
2nd gen can't come soon enough.
sorry didn't realize it had been mentioned already, did look through titles but didn't see anything specific. My Bad on double posting, cheers for heads up
As for the handsets.. im starting to think Im gonna go with Omnia 7, its looking a lot more appealing and i can deal with lack of keyboard. The screen on it is beautiful.
2nd Gen is a great thing to have but I'm at end of my contract this week, so need a new phone now... also been waiting a year for WP7 to come out and starting to get a bit impatient lol.
I'm in the same position, contact ends this month and been waiting for WP7 since I can't remember. That said, got the HD7 for my wife so I at least have one around that I can play with to partly sate my hunger!!
The DVP did seem to be the perfect device that I was looking for (I struggle without hardware keyboards although I have to say that the soft keyboard on WP7 is much better than any I've used before). So annoyed that it's delayed so badly, but I think I will resist jumping in with a device that's not quite what I want, and wait for the new year, and maybe some rivals to the DVP when it finally arrives!

My thought exactly. I'm tempted by the HD7 because it's available now and with 16GB but really I want a Venue Pro so I'll wait... unless I import .
well im resonably happy to say that I rang orange today and got an Omnia 7 upgrade for £9.99, with good contract. Seems MS are going with Cloud storage these days which is why they handsets have small HDD's.. i can live with that along as I can get on WIFI lol..
So i will now wait untill the next incarnation of the DVP and see what that has too offer, maybe they will be on 3rd gen by then

I have a Zune HD with 8GB of music on it, if I get a WP7 I want it to also be my Zune so I need at least a 16GB device
Bad news about the lack of memory card on this as it was the main reason I was considering it over the other WP7 devices.

No to omnia 7?

I am selling my iPhone 4 and getting a wp7 device. Had a omnia 7 briefly before, but now I am in doubt if I should get a Optimus 7 instead. Reading this thread shows a lot of trouble with de device?
Well, it's typically people who are in trouble that write in these forums, so I don't think that means much. My Omnia 7 has been absolutely perfect in the month that I've had it.
Omnia 7 is the best Phone i've ever owned.
I'm running the Mango Beta 2 7712 and it's just awesome!
The phone is fast, has an amazing display and is very robust - go for it!
Don't forget omnia 7 has got a super amoled screen! buy it not the lg one

Approve! the same for me
Well it depends... I tested side by side my omnia against an optimus 7 for a day and i have to say, as an actual phone the lg its much, much better... A lot Better signal strength and no 3g to 2g call problems as cut calls, robot sounds (i always have problems) btw.
Still, i decided to keep my omnia and gave as a gift the lg, and i tell you why... 4" SuperAmoled screen.
Its just soo beautiful, specially with wp7 black bg... I really couldnt go bat to lcd... So i have to keep forcing 3g or 2g only depending of the situation, which does get rid of the incall problem (still worst signal strength than the lg though) and never looked back...
i have an omnia 7 but i would trade it in for a wp with and bigger storage and i know optimus 7 has 16gb to the omnia7 8gb unless you get a 16gb but there hard to get.
I've been using a 16 Gb Omnia 7 for the last month and I'm very happy so far.
I expect I'll be even happier when Mango is available and ready at Zune.
The SuperAMOLED screen is amazing, I just would like to make the battery last longer although it happens to me with all my gadgets.
i am using my omnia 7 for last 2 months..
i am pretty happy with it..
but i have one problem in updating it to RTM.. i am having RC , when i try to update it to RTM it restarts and shows USB connection on screen and hangs there..
any ideas...
help will be much appreciated..
PS: i am not able to post this in dev thread as i am new to this forum

why don't you install the mango RTM build. its what carriers will be sending to their customers (essentially)

I am totally new in this area. Yes I should of course install the latest. Did a brief research on how to install software, but it seems more complicated than on iphones?
Because it isn't official.
Carriers will be sending this + updated drivers, radios, bootloaders and what not with it. This is just raw stuff from MS that OEMs received.
The official way is simply "next next next ok" in Zune. I'd say wait for the official update - my bet is that it is coming within a month or month and a half. You will have no problems upgrading to RTM with drivers etc.
I'm happy with 16GB Omnia 7 no brand on mango RTM
Dont buy a WP7 device, you will cry..
Is it possible to unlock nodo 7392, using chevron?
