How is the menu compared to HTC Hero/Desire since I had both?
Is it good for multimedia, as in how does it perform when watching movies, is it bright and clear, is the sound load?
When looking at photos, say a few mb in size, is it fast?
Lastly, is the loudspeaker loud or not very?

I would say it is great for watching multimedia it is bright and clear the best device i have seen for watching movies in the sunshine
The pictures do load fast, now the speaker i think could be a lot better but its OK over all it is great but i do think once 2.2 is on board it will blow you away
Thanks for your reply.
I should be getting the streak tomorrow or the day after, cannot wait!
I already ordered the rebel sim last night and received it today...
I agree t he streak is great fir movies.headphonrs are great, speaker is worst phone yet and I can mis calls as it doesnt penetrate through loud background noise. However the screen great. Has 3 levels of brightness or can be adjusted automatically.
Battery life is great if you don't use it, rubbish if you use widgets. Ive stopped using widgets as I can get a full day even when listening tomusic and watching films.
Dell interface is good but id rather they kept it stock. If they had then I could use the home in portrait.
Right hand capacitive buttons are a pain I keep pressing them. Screen is hyper sensitive.
Keyboard is rubbish, I had an iphone before and it doesn't compare.i got on the swype beta and its much improved so change the keyboard as soon as you can.
Other than that its a great phone the size is perfect!

Yeah, I bookmarked the program, supposed to be good & plays most video formats...
So I have defiantly noticed poor video quality I've tried a 720p video h.264 lord of the rings encode quality looks decent but gets so pixilatee all the time no matter what video player I use, also tried normal 480p no lag or pixilation, but quality looks sorta poor. And the grid touch is very noticiable.
Am I the only one? Or are there others seeing this... I love this tablet so much over other android and for the price its awesome. But no ips display messes with me lol.

I have noticed the quality isn't as good as say my Iphone 3GS, Macbook Pro ( non ips screen).Apparantly it uses an AUO panel which aren't too bad; they're used in some Samsung panels but aren't as good as the one sony/samsung make.
Maybe someone with some technical knowledge here could answer it better.I am just agreeing with you. The a500 is a 6bit panel, bit disappointed in that, I was expecting 8bit.
The screen is the only disappointment I have
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I have to agree with the screen issues. Video looks completely washed out. I tested streaming through my wife's iPad and my Acer. Needless to say, for $450, it's not worth it.
I've done the whole "the screen is not so bad" thing with the gTablet but that was a much cheaper investment. This thing is $50 from the Samsung 10.1, the Toshiba Regaza 10.1 inch, and an iPad 2.
I abhor the Apple iOS but I'm hoping they open things up a bit in June. I think I'll take this Acer back next week and just wait until then all these new June tablets are released. I don't think Acer can release an update to improve the quality of the screen ala Toshiba's Resolution + tech in their tablet.
Word of advice...take micro and SD cards with video on them to the store with you so you can test these things out. Maybe a flash drive too. I spent hours looking at videos and researching to make sure this tablet would be a nice purchase. Even after owning the tablet a full day, I was happy...until I played some video with it. I'm not talking high def content. I tried watching wrestling and some soccer videos on there but the quality saddens me. Why not stick a better screen on and charge me more?
Although I see what you do when I look at mine... the pictures I look at are almost as good as my Epic SuperAMOLED phone and I thought my phone was great... so, if the pictures are great/really good and the video not so much... I think tweaking will be done to deliver better quality... this thing was rushed out and so was honeycomb... I'll give it time because I know it can only get better... besides if all you're doing is video then maybe you just need a dvd player or an archos 70 250gig I heard those screens are nice... good luck.
I wish it was that easy. I blog on my tablet which is why I was leaning towards the Asus. I game on there and that's a mixed bag on here. I do like the cameras and the flash on here.
I'd just like a tablet to do everything well. Perhaps they can fix the video quality. I'm just wondering if we'll ever get that. I've heard from 3 people on this forum that Acer's customer support sucks. They've tried to charge them each time they've called.
Hopefully we'll get some answers soon. I'm trying to hold onto it until after Google's I/O conference next week which could shed some light on any problems Honeycomb may be causing.
Just glad I kept my receipt had for about 1 week and few days but will wait and see, hopefully they will shed some light.

The main reason I bought a tablet in the first place was because I'm a producer and I wanted something I could easily tote around as a digital portfolio for pitches -MacBook Pro isn't quite as sexy in a meeting now that the tabs are on the market. The iPad has been extremely popular with commercial agencies, but I wanted something with an HDMI output w/o having to purchase an adapter (an additional $39) and a full size USB port w/o having to purchase a camera "kit" (an additional $29) -yep, I'm cheap like that.
Anyway, imagine how upset I was when I tried to play an mp4 on the A500 and got an error message stating that the video could not be played on "this device".
Here's what I found (search via google -can't post links yet):
"3 Surprising Things About Video On Android Tablets"
And from the Android Developer's site:
"Android Supported Media Formats"
What worked for me:
• Download the latest version of 'Handbrake'
• Go to 'Preferences'>'General' and under 'Output files:' uncheck 'Use iPod /iTunes friendly (.m4v) file extension for MP4'. Close the preferences window.
• Output Settings: Normal (Default) this is the 'Baseline Profile'
• Format: MP4 file this is the container
• Video Codec: H.264 (x264)
• Under 'Quality:', 'Constant quality:' should be selected with an RF Value of 19-20 for SD and 21-22 for HD
• Go to the 'Advanced' tab and under 'Encoding'/'Maximum B-Frames:' select '0' from the dropdown menu
• Leave all other settings as they are (incl. Audio; AAC is fine) for your first attempt
Feel free to play around with the settings as you will, but don't expect a whole lot of freedom.
Hope that helps!

I'd say just take it back now. If things improve you can always buy it again as it's actually in stock.
Here's what I wrote on the whirlpool forums
So anyway, I've been testing out the screen, comparing it with my macbook pro(non ips screen) with the exact same video.I found that my macbook featured better blacks and less pixelation. One thing I noticed is the blacks on the iconia were too bright. So I checked in settings and I had the brightness on auto.
I turned it all the way down ( turned off auto brightness in settings) and tried the videos again, playing both in sync and let me say there was a huge difference now.Blacks appeared much better, and all that pixelation ( which was highlighted more with the brightness on higher) was gone! It is on par with my macbook!
The image is still fairly bright as well, it doesn't look all dark now that the brightness is turned down which is great!.
Give it a ago.
I'm pretty new to Android (3.1).
My eeePad and dock arrived just 2 days ago so I'm still getting the hang of things.
Today a friend came over and we experimented, comparing our iPad (version 1) with the TS.
Both have 16 GB of RAM.
What was amazing to me was how much slower the downloads were for the Transformer for both music and video, lots of buffering before anything comes on the screen.
That didn't happen with the iPad, viewing them side by side with the same Wi-Fi connection.
Is there something in the settings I'm missing?
The video quality was slightly different.
Again this may be partially a settings issue.
We noted that the colors in the iPad were some what more saturated in comparison with the Transformer.
The Transformer audio with the built in speakers are very tinny.
You really need ear phones to experience the real fidelity.
It's like night and day!
When using SKYPE, the screen in landscape (in dock) rotates 90 degrees when you want to make a call.
I found that odd.
Is this just a phenomenon of this application?
Flash Support observation: I use lynda.com and their Flash videos leave something to be desired. When I contacted them, however, they told me that they were working on tablet versions of their Flash-based video tutorials. For now you can hear them, but the video is not clear.
Lots more to learn and try!
Hey, I don't have the Note 4 yet, but really interested simply for the Gear VR.
My main concern is, is the resolution enough to comfortably (and enjoyably) watch a full HD movie on it?
Any thoughts? I am actually dying to know (without making an expensive mistake of course)!
Thanks.
not worth it. best to wait until we get actual decent 3D goggles with high res screens for each eye.
the only good experience ive had with 3D was with two 4K high res projectors with horizontal+vertical polarization and polarized glasses. worked extremely well.
It depends what you expect. Resolution is about 720p. If you into watching movies or technology lover then is a must. Otherwise you can live without. I got mine and I like it. For a long time we cant expect product what will satisfy everyone.

That's true, but can you comfortably watch an entire movie; does it feel as comfortable as watching a 720p movie on YouTube, or are you bothered by the pixels?
For me is ok. I can watch whole movie laying in bed and looking at the ceiling. Pixels, hmm if you think about them and concentrate on them, then they are there. If you into movie then they are gone. You need to realize that picture bever going to be perfectly sharp but that is the way how optics work. Phone is only about 1.5" from the face.

The Gear VR does indeed come with an adjustment dial; however, I just leave it on the setting closest to my face because that seems to be the best setting [for me].

Although everyone's experience it different, I do not have an issue watching an entire [3D] movie with the Gear on. Is it the most comfortable thing though? Probably not :silly: The pixel issue or screen door effect (or whatever it's called) is definitely there and I won't deny that, but it doesn't bother me in the slightest unless I intentionally look for them pixels

Personally, I think the $200 price tag is nothing for someone who can afford a Note 4.
Think of it like this: $200 for a full 360 degree experience with games and a cinema mode that mimics a screen size that feels larger than anything that can fit in a typical house.
In the end, the decision will be entirely yours.
Have u tried Google cardboard? There are quite a few apps that support it. You can watch 3d trailer from YouTube. The effect is quite good. However, you still able to see pixels on note 4. I guess gear vr will be the same

I actually installed google carboard app on my note and use it with gear vr. It is not the same. Google carboard experience makes me feel like im ready to throw up while oculus app gives very smooth experience i can enjoy for hours. Gear vr has gyro build in and being used by oculus app while carboard relies on phone sensors.

This is an interesting discussion - I am not pixel hungry and I will not go hunting for pixels, however, I want to experience an immersive 3D movie or a 'cinema like effect' when watching a 2D video.
e.g. we can comfortably watch a movie on any laptop reasonably from a distance of 1/2 a meter, providing the experience compares to this, I think it would be ok.
I guess what we have to think about is, its not just the screen thats 1.5" from your eyes, the screen is also somewhat magnified which will add to pixel visiblity.
Its a shame there is no where to try out the Gear VR... I guess thats the only way of knowing for your self and being satisfied. Its expensive overall, for a relatively new craze.

There are several different viewing modes when viewing movies with the VR Cinema, including one that is a virtual movie theater - this is the mode I use when viewing 3D movies because I feel the virtual environment tricks me into believing there is depth.
& I would much rather view movies with the Gear VR, assuming that the video is of high quality.

There are Samsung stores that allow you to test out the Gear VR? I did not even know of their existence until recently stumbling upon an article about it. Not sure if we have any in America S:

I can't afford those crazy expensive TV's that cost several thousand dollars * -* So this seemed to be the best option If you're rich and have like some ridiculous theater room though, this probably wouldn't be as impressive XD for movies at least

After reading about the Seiki SU4KC1 U-Vision Up Converting Cable on this forum, I thought I'd give it a shot. I plunked down my dough and picked it up off of Amazon, knowing I could easily return it if it turned out to be snake oil.
In a nutshell, this HDMI cable up-converts either 1080p signal to 4k, or as in my case, 720p signal to 1080p. Since the vast majority of "HD" content on XBMC is 720p, I thought it'd be worth a shot.
To help me quantify the quality difference, I wanted a couple of movie scenes where the image was particularly detailed and colorful, and chose scenes from Avatar, Book of Life, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy. I set up a digital camera in front of my television, set my camera to manual focus, and swapped back and forth between the Seiki cable and a standard HDMI cable between photos. About 45 seconds passed between each A/B shot with no camera settings changed.
While examining the images on the TV set, I could perceive more detail and picture sharpness with the Seiki cable. It was subtle, but there. (Even my wife noticed an improvement.) It wasn't until I viewed the photos on my computer and was able to toggle between the two, back and forth, back and forth, that the image improvement was clearly discernible. This cable absolutely makes a significant improvement.
I'm attaching some photos, but I will say that viewing them this way makes the quality difference seem pretty subtle. If you want to take the time to cut each photo in half and toggle between the two like I did, the difference will become extremely clear. I was especially impressed with the exterior spaceship shot from Avatar -- I couldn't even see the stars in the background with the standard HDMI cable!
If, like me, you want to eek out as much quality out of your Kodi setup as possible, I recommend you plunk down the dough and order one today and do your own tests. I think you'll be glad you did. Here's a link to the cable on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IE5C6LO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Wow, definitely a big difference between the pics. The Seiki cable pics look a lot sharper.
Great job with the comparison

Thanks, but I gotta tell ya, even though I performed this test and posted the photos, by the time the forum software got through with them, even I can barely tell any difference between the two. So, for any interested parties, I've posted my original photos at the link below:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2209571/HDMI_Cable_Test.zip
I'd recommend downloading the Zip file, extracting it, then view them in some fashion that will allow you to easily A/B them. I'm on a Mac, and simply selecting a file and clicking the space bar will bring up a preview of it. Then hitting the Down (or Up) arrow will show you the next (or previous) photo, making it very easy to A/B the pairs of photos. Then you can really see the difference this cable makes.
I've thrown in a few more examples for good measure. Cheers!
It does appear to be sharper, but it also seems to have upped the contrast at the same time. That's not necessarily a good thing.

All I can tell you is that before I bought the cable, I was disappointed by the picture quality that the 720p content produced on my set, and I'd try and limit my selections to what I could find that was 1080p. But that was problematic in that A) there was far less 1080p content available than 720p, and B) I had performance issues with the much larger file sizes (stalling, slow buffering, etc.). Since I installed the Seiki cable, I've been reasonably satisfied with the overall picture quality that Kodi is serving up. So to my eye, the cable was a worthwhile investment. Your milage may vary.
My cable is working great with XBMC. I am however, having issues when casting YouTube videos to my tv. I'll see the controls such as play and pause on my tv, and even the progress, but as soon as the video starts the screen goes black. I've tried a few times and unplugging etc, same results. Works fine once the regular HDMI cable is in though. Anyone else have that issue?

I wasn't going to reply back to this thread but the pictures on the download images does look like a winner for me. However I don't have a 4K TV. I have the Sony XBR 65HX929. Its a great 1080p set and I am not looking for an upgrade. Would love to but its a lot of money for a high quality display of 65 Inch.
Besides I have the bose lifestyle V35 which upconverts everything to 1080P anyways for the TV.

Bose does work well. It converts the Signals to match the TV very well. However if you have a good display unit then that too can have an internal processing. I mean to say my Sony XBR HX929 does 1080p content very well even when compared to my cousins SEIKI 4K TV. I asked him if his was really 4k as there was a lot of pixilation . However when we added the Bose lifestyle 535, the pixilations went away.
