[Q] Dual boot android - NAND & SD - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Is there a possibility that we can have 2 Android OS simultaneously i.e, MAGLDR version & SD Card version..???
If so, is there a bootloader that let's us select the version as we had in the SD card ROMs..???

You can use this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1090783
to install MAGLDR and Clockwork recovery.
Get a CWM NAND ROM and put the rom.zip on your phone's sd card and flash it via Clockwork.
Then get an sd build, extract it to your sd card, and follow all the installation steps in the thread you downloaded it from.
You boot the sd build from the MAGLDR menu by chooding AD SD, but first you must set your sd directory. To do this, in the MAGLDR menu choose Services, BootSettings, then AD SD Dir, and choose the directory of your sd build.
Once you have flashed MAGLDR and CWM, you must hold down the Power button while booting up your phone to get to the MAGLDR menu.
Make sure you flash the right partition size for the ROM you'll be flashing to NAND

Oh, that's great..!!!
Thanks for the help, may be I missed that thread while searching..!!!

Dear all,
I hope nobody minds reactivating thread.
I'm currently trying to install an Android dual boot setup. I installed a NAND Android (TBD SensationXL v2.5) which works already quite well for me. Now I tried to start an SD Android Build via Magldr. But none except ICS Beta 5 starts. All other start showing their Boot splash but phone boots never the less to NAND Android.
Has anyone an Idea, what the problem could be?
Thanks in advance

Your steps should be as follows
1. Download an SD Android ROM with MAGLDR contents as well
2. Rename folder to whatever you like but the startup.txt MUST have rel_path= same name as folder
3. Place folder on root of SD card
4. Go to Services>AD SD Dir>Desired folder (in MAGLDR)
5. Select 'Boot AD SD' (or whatever the Android SD boot option is)
Oh, and reactivating the thread is infinitely better then starting a new one

Dear Nigeldg,
already did all this.
I'm just wondering why the ICS SD build boots normal while every other tested SD build won't boot

Same here...
I think the SD ROM is not suitable to Recovery..
I've tried installing SD first, after that i install CWR, n try booting AD SD but got stuck on bootsplash..

have tried
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1256423
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652

OK I think I found the solution in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1375554
So I now switched to 3dak's Kernel on SD Build and it booted. Then tried to apply glitch fix from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19025914&postcount=12 I copied files via OI File Manager in system/lib/hw and system/lib/egl but now SD Android hangs at bootscreen.
Due to my postcount I can't as this in the respective thread, so does anyone can give a detailed installation description for this fix as my solution was obviously "suboptimal".

Well there's lots of good roms out there... they are all very easy to flash back and forth from. I hate to say which one is "better" than another as that is purely subjective and everyone has a differing opinion. However, it seems a lot of people really like Sergios, MDJ's and CMYXLGO's ROMs. As a start you may want to check out one of those... Here is a link to the main Android NAND forum.
I have
•HSPL3 ~ SPL-2.08.HSPL
•Radio that support 576 RAM
•DFT MAGLDR Bootloader
•ClockworkMod Recovery
Installed.
Can you send a link to a rom that supports clockwork? i dont realy care witch one just one that works. am e newbie in this just got the phone yesterday, and now i kinda afraid i cant fix it :/ :/

If it turns on and will boot to the bootloader, it's fixable So don't worry that much! Try out Sergio's ROM. It supports CWM. If you do use that one be sure to back up your SD card as you have to repartition it.
The steps to install it are:
Code:
HD2 COREDROID Desire HD V1
1. Extract downloaded zip to a folder of your choice
2. Copy contents of copy_to_sd_root (initrd.gz and zImage) to the root of your sd card
3. Boot into magldr and select USB Flasher option while phone is connected to PC
4. Run DAF.exe included in the zip and follow onscreen instructions.
5. After complete devise will reboot in magldr chose "Boot AD SD" option
6. Device will boot into Clockwork Recovery
7. Select advanced
8. Select Partition SD card (remember too backup all valuable data you have on SD Card)
9. Selet (minimum 512M)(maximum 1024M) Chose what fits best for you Recomended size 1024M
10.Select Swap 0M
11.Wait for the process too finish (do not restart device stay in ClockWork recovery)
12.Connect the Device into USB
13.select mounts and storage
14.select mount USB storage
15.Copy contents of copy_to_sd_root (initrd.gz, zImage) to the root of your sd card
16.Copy CoreDroid_HD_HD2_v*.zip to the root of your sd card
17.Press back key after finish
18.Press back key once more
19.Select install zip from sdcard
20.Select choose zip from sdcard
21.Select CoreDroid_HD_HD2_v* file and then confirm
22.Wait for it too finish
23.After flash options pop up again Press back Key
24.select reboot system now
25.Let it boot wait about +-10Min Enjoy
I haven't really examined the guide you followed that much, but make sure you have installed a recent version of Magldr (i.e. the one you can download in the official Magldr thread in the WinMo subforum, version 1.11 to be precise). The first version(s) have been notorious for the Gogogo! bug persistently affecting some users.
Just a fyi, ignore this if you already have this v1.11
I got the aMagldr V1.11
The rom you sendt me doesnt work, it stopps here:
Run DAF.exe included in the zip and follow onscreen instructions.
i allredy installed a Daf.exe can that be the problem?

No, because it's not really an installer, but a flasher. I'm not really an expert on the CWM issues, but it seems to me like formatting your SD card(do a full format, not the quick one) might help you, since it's quite probably your SD card being the *****.
It may not help you, but if you've got a few minutes I'd say give it a shot. Don't forget to backup important SD (NAND isn't affected) first of course!
Oh, and there's also this small chance that your CWM download is corrupt. Not sure if that would give the gogogo error though.
Sorry for being a complete newb, but how do i do the hard format?
but do i need the DAF.exe to install the rom?
You'd have to format in Windows (which I assume is the OS you're running), which now that I think of it may be a bit of a problem. I don't think you can mount your SD card with Magldr, which means that you'd have to use an external card reader. If you don't have that, you'd have to reflash WinMo to format, but since that's quite some more work for something that I can't even guarantee to be a solution you might wanna hold on to other suggestions.
DAF.exe is the tool which flashes CWM to your phone. Some other tools and/or ROMS use the same name for their flasher though.
after this one :
8. Select Partition SD card (remember too backup all valuable data you have on SD Card)
9. Selet (minimum 512M)(maximum 1024M) Chose what fits best for you Recomended size 1024M
10.Select Swap 0M
i can't do **** i cant open the device in windows. is there no way i can just system recover the whole device? or do i have to rom it?..
realy need this to be working, prefer android but windows is okey

It sure is no brick, as long as you can boot into bootloader (turn on phone while keeping volume down pressed) there's no problem at all. No need to return it either.
If you feel really desperate try the WinMo thing, you've got nothing to lose except for about 30 minutes of your time.
winmo thing? is there any guide?
if i download a format program i can format the sd card..
1. Flash WinMo, this should be no problem in bootloader
2. I think it's possible to format your SD card within WinMo. I've never used WinMo actually so I can't give instructions on that.
If you can't find it or if it isn't possible, mount your SD card so you can see it in Windows. Backup data if necessary. Then right click on it (in Windows), and choose format, then disable quick format which should be selected by default. After the format you should have a clean SD card.
4. Flash Magldr again, following instructions in the official Magldr thread. Download a new copy off xda, to eliminate the possibity of just having had a corrupt download.
6. Flash CWM, following instructions in the official CWM thread.
7. Flash ROM.
Edit: I used WinMo where I meant the mobile OS, and Windows where I meant the pc OS.
I did format the SD card, nothing new just that CWM disapeard.
Now its loading with aMagldr v1.11
And i Have Spl-2.08. Hspl 8g Xe
Can anyone send me a link to a good Win 6.5 rom and anykind of guide?

[Q] Android booting from NAND + SD possible?

Is it possible to boot both Android builds with MAGLDR ?
I have already flashed an Android NAND ROM,but an android rom from sd,too, would be the beeesssttt DD
So is it possible to start the second one via MAGLDR?
thanks ^^
If you go to the Android SD development section, you'll see that some ROMs list that they can be booted from MAGLDR.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735
You'll just need to check in each ROM's thread and first post to see if it's able to be booted from MAGLDR instead of HARET.
Once you have an Android SD build that's compatible with MAGLRD on your SD card, you'll need to enter the MAGLRD menu and firstly select the folder the Android SD build is in, then select 'boot AD SD' to load the SD android build.
Also, here's a guide to boot Android SD from Maglrd: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913964

Flash HSPL2,radio higher than 2.09,MAGLDR 1.13.
NAND:
Flash CWM with correct partition
Then, flash rom by copying it to SD card then selecting install zip from sd card
SD:
Copy to SD card.
Then, go to magldr menu and select the folder where you stored your rom.
Go back and select BOOT AD SD
Hope I helped.......
By the way by HSPL2 he means HSPL2.08. Although I assume that you already have this flashed to NAND memory by the stuff you've said already And to select the SD thing go to (in MAGLDR menu) Services>AD SD Dir>folder with ROM in it.

[Q] Magldr Boot Ad SD

Hi,
I notice that some builds can be booted Via Magldr SD,
How do I do this,
I have Runny on NAND,
Do I just download the ROM add it to "Android folder" and hit "Boot AD SD" in MAGLDR?
Thanks,
Alex
Hi Alex,
I don’t think add ROM to Android folder is a good idea in order to not disturb your NAND build. Use different SD or rename your downloaded Android folder lets say Androidsd.
Steps for first boot:
1- Copy folder (Androidsd) to SD Card.
2- Boot in MAGDLR powering on your phone while you press the power button until MAGDLR appears.
3- Select "SERVICES"
4- Select "BOOT SETTINGS"
5- Select "AD SD Dir"
6- Select the "Androidsd" folder
7- Now select "BOOT AD SD" and wait boot
Next boot you can skip steps 3 to 6.
Have fun!

This is a good build, it says magldr but there is a Claret and Haret in there also
You can install magldr to the phone please have HSPL and latest radio installed.
When you install magldr it WILL remove wm6.5 and you will have to re flash a wm6.5 rom to the phone, not the offical one as it will remove magldr,
You could always try flash ICS or WP7, there is a speed boost in nand
Thanks... So installing magldr will wipe my current winmo, and I'd have to flash a cooked winmo rom? Thanks for the info. I'd just like to clarify, so, I CAN have both magldr and winmo 6.5 both at the same time? And I can still switch between an android sd rom and the winmo 6.5?

Not to sure about wm6.5 as I am not a dev,

Just a thought, practicly all SD builds come with Claret and haret included, if not you can usually download some files or there included,
I think you should install NAND android if you like android or boot Haret and Claret,
sorry if i sound like a ****, I dont mean to be
And magldr WILL remove your WinMo

Awww... too bad. Can't let go of winmo 6.5 alex, a very important app is still sticking to this OS. ^_^
Thanks for the replies though. I'm happy with android SD for the moment. ^_^
Ok mate good stuff, most builds that say magldr/sd will have claret and haret others usually have a post to add in, good luck mate!

Just to bring this alive again,
Any ideas?
When in BOOT AD SD Dir I get random figures and not folders,
I am running TBD Runnymead with EXT4 partition,
Thanks,
For booting the ROM via MAGLDR follow the following options :
1.) Make sure its the SD build you have downloaded.
2.) Check the startup.txt file for "rel_path=foldername". If you named the folder with android as "Androidsd" then it should look like
"rel_path=Androidsd"
boot
3.) remove anything written after this like nand=1 or wince=1
4.) enter bootloader. When on magldr, go to Services > Boot Settings > AD SD Dir
select "Androidsd" as the directory.
5.) Boot AD SD
then u should be able to boot.
If you are not able to enter AD SD DIR tab, remove the memory card and reinsert.

Emm... It says you must do reset of you phone from settings (or hard reset from magldr). Then you should don't let your phone boots (just stay in magldr). Remove your card from phone and put it to PC's card reader. Use MiniTool Partition Wizard to create more partitions (fat32 and ext4). And there you go. Try to boot WP7. If it boots normaly just install Android as NativeSD.
You will be lost any of your data on SD.
I think those tutorial is clearly enough. Hope you can repeat all of this steps.

Magldr > Service > Boot Setting > AD SD Dir > TOUCH
Tap Install, notice that the compatible ROMS for this methoid have a div2 or NativeSD designation, tap on the ROM you want to flash.

lojjj, I too have attempted to follow that series of tutorials, and finally succeeded, but due specifically to the part you are mentioning, it took me HOURS. There is no "Touch", "Recovery" or "Tap" folder on a freshly partitioned SD card with 4extRecovery on it. The instructions are absolutely extraneous and cause confusion. Moreover, instructions for using HD2Toolkit to partition the card are useless for triple booting if one has already partitioned using a card reader in your computer. Yes, it can be done, but doesn't need to be done if one has followed the instructions up to that point.
The other problem is that one needs to combine three or more tutorials just to do this, and they sometimes have different options, but no reason given for choosing those options. This may be the best tutorial out there, pictures and everything, but still a far cry from being perfect or complete. Oh, and sometimes the tutorials are continued in another post, which also leads to confusion.

You're looking for this ones? The link provides at the top of first post. There are a lot of recoveries with NativeSD support. You need to download one of them, unpack and copy to root of SD Card. And then you can get to Magldr > Service > Boot Setting > AD SD Dir > Recovery.
Maybe I'm wrong cause I never did such things. Good luck :fingers-crossed:
