[REQUEST] Evo Shift 4g Forums

I dont know if XDA is waiting for the official release date to create the Forum, but some of us already have purchased ours through special promotions through Bestbuy/radioshack or whatever else. We need forums to discuss ROOTING!

i dont know, where have the other requests been going?
i've been checking now for 2 days for one. Only one i found is on Androidcentral (dont wanna go there). I've seen your posts about your attempts at rooting and i think there needs to be a place for these types of posts rather than in the evo forums

Nova was one of the first games I played. We really need Shift forums! I want Cm6/Cm7 on my shift, but id probably try them all. Cant wait to get full root on this cool phone.

epic 4g rom port to the evo 4g

ok i would like to know if any dev on the xda site will port the epic 4g rom over to the evo? i like to try the epic 4g rom on my evo 4g but i can't find any good ports.i would like too see if any dev would please port it.

yeah i seen his port but it use's the base 3.29 i wanted a more up to date base like 3.70 but i guess i won't get it lol. but i do love the new miui rom 1.3.5 with the honeycomb theme on it.

in my opion i just like the look of the epic os on a evo screen lol

Along the same lines, I would like to know if it possible for someone to port the samsung phone apk (dialer). I like it much better than the stock evo dialer and all the other phonebook apps I have tried in the past. Any ideas?

There are a few good things about the epic interface.

I for one like the incoming call screen as well as the dial screen. Oh, 8 more posts before I can actually post something usefully on the development forums.

No, both suck! Shift is a cheap plastic piece of crap with only an 800 Mhz processor. It felt like I was holding the old Sidekick. My Mother-in-law has the EVO and playing with that versus my Epic, I prefer my keyboard to the on-screen one. The EVO screen was a little bigger but that was about it.

Evo who? Na I would buy another epic over the evo!

Why do you assume anyone would be jealous? Are you projecting your own feelings upon us? It's common, but something you should look into because it's not emotionally healthy to do that. It will make relationships very difficult until you truly take ownership of your projected feelings.
I'm jealous of neither. They simply exist as other options which appeal to people other than myself at various levels of desire.

it's not the fact that he asked the question, it's how he assumes we are automatically jealous of one of the phones. I am not jealous of either phones, so, I said no.
That being said, of the 2, I would rather have the regular evo... I guess.

I am not jealous of either, especially the shift. Each phone has its own ups and downs. And from my personal preference the Epic is by far the best. I played with them both and my biggest reasons are the display and speed. To me the Epic wins both hands down. The Evo screen is bigger but for me I find the Epic to be the perfect size. I also like gaming which is another hands down win for the Epic, imho. The point is, you will get tons of people that vote for each one. It all depends on the person. So if you really want an answer you need to use them side by side and make your own choice.

I currently feel I have the best phone on the market at the best price power month. I have not one reason to be jealous. I've been without a computer since February and the Epic has filled in just fine until I ordered my ideal computer.

If you ask me, the evo its better if you are not into rooting or messing with your phone, however with all the support we got here from our devs, the epic has become one of the best phones out there on the market

What's up with our GB release??

So, its been 5 days since our official release of gingerbread but only two roms are using it. Hell I'm even running a Rom built off the shift port. Is it junk or something?? I figured by now, we would have a ton of devs using it. Not trying to raise Hell, just curious. Figured a Rom built off of it would be much more stable and faster than a port from another phone.

I'd guess that its because it is only sense 1.0. MikG and Synergy are both solid and stable, and they have sense 2.1. I think that for most people, going back to sense 1.0 isn't acceptable. Especially when the shift ports are as stable as they are. I'm sure someone will work on the OTA rom though.

Thanks. I wasn't aware it was sense 1.0. That's really disappointing. As for the comments about the release date being the 9th, what makes a difference? Is it gonna change in some drastic way? I doubt it.

You answer yourself the Question, it its becuase the Update is JUNK, only usefull thing is the Kernel and the files Devs can take out, to make Ports better, other than that is the same s#it....

We're loving the recent push of Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates, and the latest group to get a sweet taste of the Gingerbread will be HTC Evo 4G owners.
Sprint announced this morning that it will begin rolling out an over-the-air update on June 6 to deliver the latest software release. As usual, the update will come in batches and users will receive a notification on their smartphones to let them know when the update is ready for download.
However, if you simply can't wait, there will be a manual download option starting June 3, where you can access the update by going to the Menu option on the Evo 4G and then selecting Settings > System updates > HTC software update. You can find more details and instructions on Sprint's Community site.

It's so weird my EVO stays luke warm during charging periods. I always find it odd how some can be totally not hot, and then others will get extremely hot. I would have to say my Pre would always get the hottest on the Touchstone.

Oh, one last thing. Cant Cyanogen use our release to make CM7 more stable?? I think sense roms and AOSP roms both have benefits that I like but its beyond me why Cyanogen cant get GPS to work without having to tickle your sphincter with your big toe everytime you switch roms.

You are welcome to develop yourself if you don't feel that the free service provided around here is fast enough.

[ICS] should they stop working on it

I've been following the ics project since after my birthday (11/27/11) and a lot has changed but when it comes to (FFC) it came to me that its not gonna work till maybe after the summer or never, whenever HTC gives out the code bit what's your opinion about the ics for the EVO 4G?

ummm my opinion on it is that if they dont want to they shouldnt. It will give us an awesome rom but more importantly that means our wonderful devs are learning stuff. this means that in the future they can use these experiences to help them in work or in other aspects of there personal lifes. so dev on guys you are doing great

Why in the world should they stop working on ICS? It makes little sense.
Deck and Kang and others are making great ICS ROMs for lots of phones, not just the EVO4G.

htc will release the code.. because it is an open source project. when is the question, not if.

The OS code is open source. The device drivers are not last I knew. So no, HTC does not have to release driver code.

HTC may release the FFC code for our OG's as soon as they sell enough of their newer devices.
They seem to be dragging their feet in releasing the official ICS updates for the Evo 3D and the Evo Design when they said they would, but they're holding it back, why? Cuz they want to sell enough of the One series models before they officially update the older HTC models that are scheduled to be updated with ICS.
Its kinda crappy of HTC to do that, but hey, they're a "for-profit" business.
But in answer to your question, heck no they shouldn't stop developing ICS for our OG Evo's! This sh*t is fun as hell.

Yeah, I don't get why a thread was started for this. But why should devs abandon ICS on Evo? Because they can't get FFC to work!? I've been on ICS since the minute they got camera working (around Xmas), and could NEVER imagine going back to GB or Froyo (well, ...maybe froyo).

I flashed outer depth express from, which is a great rom , just for ****s and giggles and let me tell you I haven't tried sense for about a year now and if you want to appreciate ics, flash a sense rom and you will see y we won't look back.....omg.....

Hahaha. Let's see... These devs have given us some of the smoothest ROMs our phones have ever seen, with incredible battery life and cutting edge features...

The evo is EOL(end of life) HTC doesn't have to support it any longer meaning they won't release any source for it as they are not working on ICS for the device. Hardware mfgs may release source for the same hardware in other devices, like they did with the adreno or the devs may code their own drivers. But don't expect HTC to do a damn thing for the evo, period.

All I'm saying we have a lot of people love the ics Rom but some people hate it cause no 4G. But let me tell one thing about the ics it came a lot since then and like some people who are poor or they don't make a lot of money, its hard to keep up with ics roms when the last two months the biggest change was 4.0.4 which is like starting all over again. Don't get me wrong with the debate about their work, its freaking amazing, but the biggest break through will be the ffc. Closest to that is from a horse ride to a plane ride experience

I don't think that they should stop working on the ICS ROM's. I went from Sense to Ice Cream Sense to ICS and having ICS on my phone is like having a brand new phone. We don't have 4G in our area, and the front facing camera I hardly used. I am using gummyWorms ICS right now and so far had no major problems with it. There are minor glitches sometimes but, that is no big deal. I hope that the ICS developers can get everything working and I know that it will take time to do so. I appreciate all of their hard work in bringing us some ICS goodness to our phones.
