4G network issue or my Epic? - Epic 4G General

In a spot where I get very strong signal, today it will connect but won't actually work. Toggling 4G mode and rebooting have no effect. 3G works normally. Anyone else having this issue? Wish I could test it in another 4G area to narrow it down to the local tower.

Happens to me intermittently. I wondered if it was maybe just maintenance on a tower but that would not account for it showing that 4g was connected, plus my buddy was connected on his Evo at the same time, getting pretty good speeds. Its very curious.
From Epic With Love

Well, at least I know now it wasn't my phone. 4G is back, although weaker than before. 100% uptime doesn't exist in this world, yet.

Can't get 4G to stay connected - Very annoying!

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but i wanted to get input from other 4G users who have the EVO.
I just can't seem to keep the 4G network connection to actually stay connected to the network.
I live in the San Jose Area, in my house i get full bar of 4G coverage.
It connects just fine, stays connected for 30sec and then disconnects and entering an endless reconnect loop.
It will only stay connected if i actually open up an application that constantly consumes data (like watching a video or listening to internet radio). As soon as i close this application the reconnect loop returns. needless to say it kills the battery.
Initially i thought it was the tower that i am connecting to, so i drove Palo Alto which also have 4G and the same thing happens there.
Either there is a serious bug in with EVO or the network is kicking my device off.
How is your experience with 4G? will it stay connected with good signal even if you are not going anything on the device?
I hope that doesn't become a common problem like a lot of people's problems with the Nexus One being unable to maintain a 3G signal.
Wish I had 4g in my area to test. Loving the sprint 3g vs t-mobile 3g.
To the OP - the network you are on is labeled as Sprint, but it is in fact Clear's "developer Innovation test network". Read more about it on Clear's site. This is basically a TEST network, with not full deployment - so building penetration will not be as good as it could be. Keep in mind also that 4G has a high spectrum and high spectrums have never been good at building penetration.
So, basically - this is not the full network we'll see at 4G launch in the Bay Area. This is just a test network. Don't think too highly of it. Hope this helps.

This indeed crossed my mind. Even though i do get full bar of 4G at my house.
This is why i wanted to know if EVO owners in other locations (outside the Bay Area) are having the same issue.
This is a two part problem I believe. A) WiMax is a very young technology. As it gets older it will get better. Bank on that. B) I read somewhere that this Google I/O software has a bug in the 4g software that will keep disconnecting when not on a constant downstream of data. It will keep disconnecting and reconnecting. Basically, once this bug is fixed and WiMax gets older we should be fine.
Ghetto idea, turn on the wifi hotspot and see if that hold the connection open.

Tried that. it wil stay connected if the laptop connected to the hotspot is pulling data. otherwise - reconnect loop.

Has anyones network dropped below 3G...ever???

I've had my evo for a little over three weeks now... I've traveled to alot of different areas and I've never seemed to drop below 3G even when I have zero bars....Is anyone else experiencing this???
Sent from my Evo 4G using XDA App
I live in iowa, sprint roams a fair amount of the time. I don't think the evo will display anything other than 3g when internet is available even though it is roaming on like a 1x network. I think sprint roams 1x on UScell, but I've gotten good 3g speeds roaming as well, which I assume is Verizon. Running a speedtest has confirmed max rates of ~200kbs even though I had full bars. I've never gotten less than 800 when not roaming. Is there a program out there that will specifically tell who's tower you are roaming on? Thanks!
I have never seen anything other than 3G, 4G, or nothing for the data connection. It's the way the phone was designed. If I have a data connection, it always says 3G (I rarely connect to 4G).
I've seen a screenshot with EvDo listed in the status bar, but I've never seen anything but 3G on my phone.
The screenshot with EvDo was a custom ROM, so it may have been something they changed. I'll see if I can find the screenshot again. (It was here on xda.)
yes, i've seen a triangle, 1x or evdo symbol and sometimes and x for no service at all lol. i tend to miss the coverage i had under at&t...
EVDO = 3G
1x = Not 3G
Triangle = Roaming
3G is almost always displayed on the stock rom even when its not in 3G
On custom roms you will see different combinations
I get the triangle when riding underground in Chicago's subway.
The Evo is screwed up in signal display. It always shows 3G even if you're on 1xRTT.
I'm working on a widget that'll show it.

[Q] 4G Wireless Hotspot Success

How have people been fairing with this?
So far from work, my connection appears iffy at best. I can turn off and on the 4g to get one or two successful page requests through. I have a Clear Wimaxx Spot that I use at the same location (that I turn off before activating 4g on phone) with no connection issues. Also, my 4g only reports 1 bar. My distance from the tower is < .5 miles. I'll post an update when I try it from home.
Anybody know how to check 4G signal strength (other than generic bar readout) from the device? I've seen the signal strength in "about phone" area but am guessing it's dedicated to 3G - I could be wrong.
I'm hoping to drop my Clear Spot but so far, doesn't look like that's going to happen.
The hotspot app has worked great for me in 3G mode, but there's no 4G coverage here to try with that.
I'm also having the same issue. I'm in an area with excellent 4G coverage, but only getting 1 bar. Earlier I was getting spammed "4G has been disconnected" in the notification bar. I had to restart the phone to fix the issue.
Sent from my Samsung Epic 4G™
I've been getting the 4g disconnected message also.
I'm using a clear spot which should be running off of the same tower. I consistently get their best reception (throttled at 600kbps) from the same location. I've tried turning it off in case it's getting in the way already if anyone is wondering.
My 4G icon on the Epic typically reads from 0-1 bar. I'm under .5 miles and my entire area reads "indoor" 4g on sprints map.
I couldn't find any information on the strength of the 4g radio in this thing. If anyone has that info I'd appreciate it. I believe Samsung touts it as being 20% more connective than other devices...but that might just be 3g.
Hi, I am located in the downtown of a city with 4g enabled and I can turn it on and with a speed test confirm 4g is turned on (3Mb down). When I connect I get about 3 bars and can surf some web pages but it always eventually gives me "4g disconnected" I haven't been able to complete any download over 10ish megabytes on 4g because 4g disconnects and the download fails. i might call the sprint store later, but it seems like this would be software fixable.

Pixel 4 XL insists on roaming regardless of settings

I'm on Sprint, and while at work and one path home for some reason my phone refuses to stop roaming. Setting it to home only vs. automatic does nothing. Disabling and rebooting does nothing. Do I seriously need root just to do this? I'll stand next to a window outside where there is very much plenty of LTE coverage from Sprint and I'll reboot and cycle airplane mode two or three freaking times before the stupid thing stops roaming. The most frustrating thing is when it does actually work, it has the best LTE reception I've ever seen. If it would just...freaking connect to the right one...
I have a Pixel XL and my wife has a Pixel, both on Sprint's network. They will refuse to connect to 4G or LTE signal. Will be in the most populated area of Portland Oregon and be stuck on 3G or slower. There are times where we have no network, our Android Auto won't work, our GPS won't work, and our music will stop streaming as we're driving down the major freeways in the Portland metro area.
I have no idea what to do other than just go get a Samsung.

Starting to get annoyed with the O variant phone in the UK

It's all too frequently dropping 4G or LTE connection when on the move. It's showing a connection, good strength too, but no data connection working. Often needing an airplane mode toggle or reboot to get online again.
5G is disabled as I'm nowhere near a 5G area.
Anyone got any ideas? Different firmware or something?
I'm starting to regret moving away from the SD note 10 plus I had. That phone was rock solid.

I read that some people have issues with connection with some ISP providers. Try putting it on 3G and see if it works fine then. If it does then ISP has either sn issue with 4G network or phone needs a firmware fix to solve 4G connection issue if this isn't a hardware problem thought. Since for me it works fine here and my 4G shows all time and I even have 4G+ as status without an issue.
try disabling WiFi calling that helped in my case
Tried all that. Went into a town and it didn't again.. Had to force it onto 4g to get a connection.

Haven't had any issues myself, on giffgaff. Tried O2 briefly, it seemed okay too.

Give this app a try, might help fixing it to one band
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ray.samsungbandselection
Yes u have that thanks. It seems to be band switching that's the problem. Or is it possible my carrier has live but unused bands that the phone is locking into? So when I travel I find myself with a dead data connection?
