i think people expect it to fix each and everyone of their problems... when all it'll likely do is ad more twitter/facebook bloatware into the tablet.. Hahaha.

I want to use my Xbox 360 Controller to play me some emulators!!!

I'm looking forward to proper mouse support, and hoping the cell problem is fixed. I also want 1080.

Didn't 1080p support come with the recent minor update? I thought I read that it did somewhere, I might be wrong though. Lol

Still not had that minor one here in the uk!

Had the update to 1.139.05 in the UK but still no 1080 yet. That and mouse support is what i'm looking forward to.
I was born with a bit of patience so can wait happily a few weeks more.

i didn't realize you could tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 10" screen.
seriously, folks crying about no 1080p support on a 10" tablet is just silly. you can't even REALLY tell the difference unless you compare a -52" tv to a 52"+ tv, so how are you going to "see" the difference on a 10" screen?

the screen of the tablet is not meant to be 1080p anyway...
and.... for me really so far
What is the point to get HD capability on a tablet ? are you going to take HD video of your holidays with a TABLET ????? should you buy a CAMERA.
take some shoot yeah but for real quality... we are all agree that we need to buy the devices meant to be use for this.
hehehe
soon the 52" tablet in HD....

so, what, 720p isn't good enough right now?

the point is
if you want watch movie HD on your big TV well... you should not rely on a tablet to read them.... and buy a HDBox
I think really the tablet should not be NOW but later with technology and better screen... Full HD

build 1.139.05_COM_GEN1

I'm not saying that. I'm just saying they aren't talking about 1080p on the tablets screen. Maybe some of them have bigger TVs though, in whch 720 is NOT good enough. All I know is that I can see a huge difference 720 and 1080 on my little 19 inch TV, so on a bigger TV it would blow.

You can tell the difference, if you take picture on a 15mega pixel zoomed in. Then you can see the difference..

what emulatiors are you running. New to the tablet scene and can't find a good gba emulator that works. Any suggestions?

GOOGLE TV (is here)!!!

Anybody excited about this?
I didn't see any threads so perhaps not, but I think this looks very promising.
Sony and Google in bed together?
I know this isn't exactly news, I just wasn't sure if it would materialize.

You're super late and you probably didn't see threads in here because this the Evo section of XDA. GTV looks good but I'm going to wait for the next version.
I want one but it doesn't do 120 Hz or 3D....bummed
You're late to the dance (i know..) also Logitech has their own version as well.

Which you can use your "Evo" as a remote control... There is the tie in, thank you.

And sorry, Evo section is the only part of XDA that I frequent
As far as 120hz goes, I think only BluRay and video games make good use of this.
I'm pretty sure everything that goes over IP is never breaking 60hz. Cable tv included.

Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING, makes use of 120hz currently.120hz on tv is just to match frame rates between your tv running off of 60hz electricity and film's 24hz frame rate.
Signed an ISF certified calibration technician.
From my Evo to your eyeballs.
Nothing? But it looks so good when i seen them at Sam's Club.....
To me it seems like most 60hz 720p's look better than the 120hz 1080p's. Maybe my eyes are just that bad though?

Thanks for the info. I was beginning to think there was more to it than just numbers. I have a beatuiful 1080p tele sporting "120hz" and it does look amazing during some serious bluray playback... But alas, I believe it's the motion smoothing technology at work.
I tried explaining this to my friend a while back about 240hz. It's just motion matching/smoothing- but damn does it look nice.

Motorola Xoom Verizon User Guide Available

Don't think this has been posted here yet so I thought I would share.
Droid-Life.com has the article, and here's the download link.
edit:
lol: "If you can't see the screen while wearing sunglasses, take them off."
Also, there seems to be a help app you can download a http://www.motorola.com/xoomhelp but it doesn't appear to be available yet.
So, no USB charging, it requires it's own unique power cable.
Also, it mentions the HDMI out, and says you can watch videos, display your pictures, and show videos you've recorded all via HDMI. It does not say that it outputs the screen to HDMI like the Adam. This is something I want, and so far it doesn't look too good..

It seems like it's going to be exactly the same as it is on the Droid X, there are apps to allow clone mode output through HDMI on the X. Hopefully they will get a app for the Xoom not to far after it's release.

Huh, wonder why there isn't an app like that for the EVO. The EVO has the same issue, only Gallery and YouTube outputs via HDMI, and nobody has been able to make it do otherwise.
The Notion Ink Adam outputs the entire screen via HDMI, that's what I want for the Xoom.
I would bet this has all to do with HDCP.
It will be interesting to see how Netflix / Hulu Plus will be handled with this feature once they're available.
And also how the 'Speaker HD Dock' interfaces with this issue.
No usb charging isn't good..but since it has 10 hours of battery life i think i can deal with it.

In nearly all cases I have seen with smartphones, what they claim is always more than what you will get even in standby. It is like they test things in safe mode with nothing running. I hope at least 10 hours but I would not be surprised if it is much less. Although I want one bad, I think I am going to wait for the early adopters to report real world numbers first.
I love it when people report they get "Days" on new roms... I cant get "days" if i set ANY of my bloody phones on a table and left it to do NOTHING for the whole time lol.

I'm half tempted to wait on buying a Xoom until after the Netflix information is available. I mean, it's not a huge deal... I have a PS3, which I use for all my Netflix, but in the off-chance that I buy a second TV, I would expect my Xoom to be my primary Netflix delivery device.

It definitely doesn't look horrible. However, I don't know/can't tell if the screen is better than the Xoom's...
Also... I didn't make this video, lol.

I was worried about the screen but then noticed that he has the brightness cranked to the maximum. This definitely looks like the tablet for me

I didn't know that. Thanks (no sarcasm intended).
this video pretty much convinced me to get this over xoom !!
some of the features that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has over the Motorola Xoom are :-
dual surround speakers
native divx play
Slimmer and lighter than the Xoom
8mp cam
FULL 1080P video recording
bigger battery
can anyone prove other wise? and what's about the screen - what screen does the xoom have?
I already own a Galaxy Tab original - thinking of getting this when out !
So are there a lot of good games for the Tab or is it just angry birds and dungeon defenders?
ofcuz there are thousands of great games! u can go youtube n search for "motorola xoom games"... there is a review of games in honeycom
fyi, there is no usb, microsd, or hdmi port in the galaxy tab 10.1
All I can say is "I'm hooked, I'm hooked, I'm hooked!" That is just what every tablet manufacturer needs to get their tablet out. It's better than a commercial and helps answer a lot of my questions. From here on, it can only get better.

It has already been said, not confirmed, that one or more of theses may be available via the propriety port on the bottom of the tablet
the specs are really impressive...
really hope it does better than the first SGT, which is sluggish for me..
It has almost everything cept perhaps true GPS, USB host, native HDMI out, and maybe even a removable battery (like the Toshiba)... One can only wish!
Want. The more I watch the video, the more I want the device.
When can I buy it? I guess by the time it is out I will be getting a xoom or ipad2. Yes I like it very much, but it might take 3-4 months befor it is out.

When you consider how many people are banging on in here about 3.1 and how it's going to fix 1000's of bugs (Yah, Ok, I know, I'm exaggerating..), there's NOT really a hell of a lot in that list that's all worth screaming for joy about.
I probably won't even bother updating.
There's not a lot in there I want, maybe 1080 output on hdmi (was that "i" or "p"?? If it's 1080i, I definitely won't bother updating just for that..)
Oh, it was "p" (you can't see the original messages when you're entering your one, silly that).. I might update for that.

I personally definitely find the support for wider range of media files and 1080p support already more than worth the upgrade. Not that 720p is anything to scoff at either, but I got a 1080p TV here and my friends have those too, so obviously it's great to have if I wish to hook my tab up to TV.
Besides, people are saying the 3.1 makes the whole thing a lot smoother and faster, so ain't that already good enough of a reason to upgrade?

Nice, 1080p is a must for some, no news about 1080p mp4 playback?, high profile 720p mp4 video playback is only software and it's choppy (powerpoint like, low fps) and mkv is non existent, I really want tegra to shine because it has the power to.
Also any info about recording at least decent 720p from rear camera, right now kinda sucks (too grainy).

I actually had the Xoom before trying out the Iconia. The transition between 3.0.1 to 3.1 was very nice. The system was more responsive, browser was faster and more stable, better support for high profile movies, and the re-sizable widgets made my screens so much more useful. The whole OS seemed more stable, no more random FCs.
So I personally am looking forward to the update.

Galaxy tab 10.1

Hi, just bought the above but already disappointed with the price / performance ratio and think of returning it for a xoom as I can get double the disk space for £80 less money + I get a HDMI port.
I am finding it cannot proccess 1080p video on youtube which it is supposed to be able to do, it can do 720p but suprisingly using DICE it can do 720p high profile movies files (mkv) pretty well to, overlcocked to 1.6 (not getting hot) it can almost do 1080p high profile too.
I know the limitaions with Terga regards to video but I thought it was supposed to be able to 1080p youtube as this is main or base profile.
Any other advantages / disadvantages?
Are there any fully working 3.2 wfi UK ROMS?
Cheers.
what is the point to watch 1080 on 10.1 inches screen? I just don't understand. btw, xoom can't play 1080 YouTube videos either.

There are two reasons I can think of from the top of my head.
1. No need to convert 1080p videos if that is what someone already has.
2. Someone may want to use Xoom to playback a video to a 1080p TV.

Ah ok, I didn't realise this aspect. I would want my tablet to be able to output 1080p via it's video out connectivity.
The other point still stands, some people have 1080p videos as part of their video collection. As there's many other devices that can support full 1080p video. It would be really annoying for those people to have to convert these videos and store two copies (one at 720p and another at the 1080p). It's far easier if their tablet could play 1080p so you can throw anything at it and it'll just play it.
This thread is interesting.. I was about to get the Galaxy Tab 10.1 because of the much better screen and lighter body weight..
Should I keep the Xoom instead??
For 1080p don't buy anything now, wait for kal-el.
Managed to brick my Xoom last night whilst installing an boot image (dont ask for details I may cry) so I am taking it back for a refund today as PCworld have kindly agreed to do so. ( I may have ommitted a few details of the fault with the device).
One definite advantage to the samsung is odin, no silly bollocks with adb and 20 step rooting and unlocking, piece of piss on the tab, although have you seen the root on the eepad transformer?, yeah you only need to do it once but what a faff.
I have decided my only problem with the Gtab is (I can live without the HDMI onboard and even USB) is space, with a couple of movies, two audio books and only 4 games I was already running out of space with no means to upgrade, this is a apple-esque fail and I have to say they deserve all the **** they are getting in the courts for apple copying, it just is an ipad 2 running android.

Uh, "adb" (and "fastboot") is what Google (and everyone else) uses and works perfectly. Odin is some Windows-only hack, not sure how that's an "advantage" at all?
originally I was waiting for the Galaxy tab but the more I read on it, and seeing the price, I decided to go with the xoom for the following reasons in no particular order.
1. Xoom is pure android, I suppose this doesn't matter for all you flashers but it does to me.
2. Ports, and internal sd card slot, usb, hdmi. all of these are extra peripherals on the tab and I don't want to go searching for them when i need them, again might not be a problem for some but it is for me.
3 Price. for the same price as a 16gb tab you can get a 32 that includes all of the ports so more bang for my buck imo.
Advantages of the tab over the xoom..
1 weight, the tab weighs nothing the xoom can break your wrists off depending how you hold it. I've gotten used to manipulating my xoom now so it's no longer an issue but still an advantage the samsung has over xoom
2 screen res. samsung make beautiful screens, much more beautiful than the xoom. Not that the xoom is aweful it just looks like crap next to a galaxy, but then so does everything.
my opinion make of it what you will
Samsung screen is color rich but I think Motorola screen has natural colors.
Sometimes colors on Samsung feel artificial.

originally I was waiting for the Galaxy tab but the more I read on it, and seeing the price, I decided to go with the xoom for the following reasons in no particular order.

Cheers for the feedback. The 2 issues I have with the Xoom are weight and screen.
I think waiting for Kal-el is probably the best thing for me to do, although I am interested to see what the Gtab7.7 looks + speed wise when its released.
My Xoom isnt really that bad IMO, I've got the internal 32Gb + SD 32Gb storage, which certainly beats out the Gtab10.1 for sure.
