[Q] Induction charging - Defy Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have seen mods for plenty of other phones, but has anyone else thought modding your defy to use induction charging? Im worried there isn't enough room behind the battery for the coil to fit. It would be sweet to set up though, i can already ftp to and from my phone so there would be no need to open the USB cover which im worried will eventually snap of. Combined with my Bluetooth headphones i can be truly wireless.
Im not brave enough to try it, but maybe someone else out there is and can let us know if it can be done.

This would be awesome if someone did try it out.

So - maybe we can create a short list and make it sticky, which batterys have already been tested?!
There are a lot of links and battery descriptions but its really hard to find some
usefull information out of all these posts...
What do you think?

Energizer EnergiStick AP650

Hi guys
just seen this:
http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/ph/products/ap650/
thought it may be of use to anyone, i may buy it for my desire z just to keep it topped up towards the end of the day or if i am gonna make a long call, save battery life when im browsing the web for long periods of time
i like he idea of the mugen 1800 battery and the 3500 with the added backplate but i like the original battery and i dont like the idea of the extra bulk all the time with the larger backplate.
with the portable charger i can use it as emergency charge or when i know im gonna use it for a long time on the net, when its in my hands i dont see a problem with it on the back of the phone.
i know it says mini usb on the webpage but its a typo... look at the gallery and you will see its a micro usb for our phones.
just hope this helps people who are struggling to use the phone for a full day
thank me if you like.. i wont complain lol!!

Looks like the micro usb is oriented the wrong way to work with the G2.
ohhh no wayyy... just my luck... cheers for pointing that out, thats dissapointing
good job i havnt brought one....
Thanks mate
could always get this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Portable-Batt...378?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item19c3f55422
but its not as well made and i wouldnt trust it lol
Looks retardedly bulky.
And as the other poster said, the USB port is oriented upside down compared to what the G2/DZ has.
or you can get the zagg.... for nearly 100$ haha, I know i got one for 50% off though like 5 months ago? or more. hardly even use it.

I just got myself an energizer portable charger that works with generic usb devices. It looks like a slim rectangle with a female mini usb on one side (to charge) and a female USB on the other to plug whatever usb you want to it. That might work better I think
Not this one, but the same idea as it:
http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/ph/products/xp1000/
yeah i know the one you mean
its a damn shame the other one wouldnt fit lol,
i might buy one maybe with some work i could pull it apart and turn the micro usb plug upside down on the energi stick then it would fit
ill have a go and post back with pictures in a few days just incase anyone is interested
Thanks to everyone that pointed it out though

Droid 2 Up for

Phone works just fine, but in my haste to flash a rom I didn't check my battery charge and screwed the pooch. So I hacked a USB cord to route power to the phone. In the process of doing so I somehow torched the ability to charge a battery. So I am thinking 50 bucks or something like that.
*sigh* so now I have a droid incredible 2
However, this means that for a small price someone could have this droid 2 to build on and know that it just needs soldered power conduit or if you are really $$ you could figure out how to fix the charging aspect of the phone.
Thoughts comments.
I have been stalking the forums here for quite sometime, make donations and generally keep my mouth shut.
Hello all.
And good night.

Honestly the phone is a paper weight really for anyone looking to get practical mobility out of it.
The only way the phone will power on is with the hacked USB cable I have made. Basically overrides battery and powers the phone.
Would be ideal for someone who wants to try and have verizon fix it. Or to build ROMs on.
The phone is in slightly used shape. Screen is protected and flawless. Keyboard is find as well. Small nick on one of the corners. The phone will not recognize any new battery. Phone loads a display of a battery with a ? inside of it. When a battery is inserted.
I am here to solve your problem my brutha Go to radio shack, they have a enercell universal charger for 40 bucks there that will let you charge ANY cell phone battery (did the same thing). Charge your battery and bring it back to the store for a full refund, or keep it like I did as I do stupid things regularly

Charger tip broke.

Hello everyone.
I seem to have a bit of a problem. The tip of my A500s charger, the end going to the tablet, seems to have broken in half....while inside the tablet. So now there is a bit of charger stuck in the port...and I cant conceive a way to safely extract it. It still charges if I plug the other half of the charger in so the situation isnt dire, but it is a bit touchy with how it must be positioned. Anyone have any idea how I can get that thing out of there...?

Yeah, and when it eventually breaks a bit more then it won't charge at all :S I'd definitely try to get it out. As the other guy mentioned, you could try tweezers. Another thing you could try is use some long, slim object and attach a SMALL drop of superglue to it, stick it carefully to the stuck part and watch that you don't get glue anywhere else, and wait for it to dry. Then just pull it out. I've had to do that myself to a few devices and it usually works great, the problem is just finding something slim enough.

Early on mine broke, and the pin inside the tablet got stuck on my charger tip. Had to send it in for repair (covered under warranty). To be honest, I've yet to see a worse charger design than the A500. The Thrive has a laptop charger and port.

Are you MacGyver?
Thanks for the replies everyone! That superglue idea is nothing short of genius!

same thing happened to mine less than a month after owning the tablet. i just stuck the charger in and pressed it towards an edge as i pulled it out. it brought the little piece out with it. ended up having to buy another charger. from day 1, i knew the included charger wasn't good news...
this happened to mine also, and i pulled the pin out from the inside and the new charger doesn't fit, and i'm thinking that i was suppose to pull it out, anyone can tell me? or show a close up of the hole, my warranty ends this month and hope they cover it. thanks.
I've used the superglue trick to extract a dime from a seatbelt receiver in a car. Use the glue sparingly, let it set, and it can work. SPARINGLY. If you have to do it again, so be it. Better than too much and causing new problems.
The same thing happened to me. I was able to get it out with a tiny screwdriver and a little patience. I bought a replacement directly from Acer. Buy the one for the A100. The wire is longer than the stock one and I haven't had a problem with the new one.

Is this wall charger compatible with the Transformer?

I've been looking for a spare wall charger for my Transformer. The main one I have is dodgy at best and I need to send it back for replacement but a spare one is always handy anyway. According to the spec this one is compatible. Just wondering if anyone else has tried one like this?

Thanks!
I see it's 5V/1A... Don;t think that's enough for (proper/fast) charging of the TF101...
nope it will only trickle charge it same as putting it in a USB port and take days to charge if at all. You need 15 volts to charge it properly.

Nexus 5X Qi Charging Mod

I have been wanting Qi charging since I got my 5X and there is finally a way to mod it. I did not make the following video, just passing it along.
Check out this video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx-s47x4UW4
I dont know if my hands are steady enough to solder like that any more.
Looks incredibly difficult to do. I hope someone comes up with something you can clip onto the usb port, I'd buy it right away.
If you watch the very end you can see it cycling between charging and not charging. Something didn't go right and it probably doesn't actually work. I've had this happen before when I modded my Galaxy Nexus for the Palm wireless charger. The receiver inside the phone wasn't getting enough voltage to reliably charge the phone so it would just cycle back and forth between charging and not charging. Heated the battery up really badly and ruined it, had to buy a new battery shortly after and try again. Eventually I got it working properly but I don't know if I would mess with it ever again. It was a pain that took a few days of trying over and over again plus I had a ruined battery. Just should let people know that from experience it isn't as easy as making contact with the pins and it magically works. You have to take in consideration length, gauge, and resistance of the wire while monitoring the voltage.
