!!! Factory reset warning !!! - Galaxy S II General

I just factory reset my phone by dialling the reset number into my keypad and it bricked my Phone, got stuck in boot. I Was using VillianROM 1.1.
it could have been a fault with the phone though as I have just taken it back with s sync / charge problem which turned out to be a problem with the port.
I would not recommend resetting if you are on a custom ROM just to be safe. Wait for CMR so it can be flashed from SD.

But you can stil access bootloader and therefor instal new ROM i hope?

you may be able to if you phones syncs, mine didn't but I think that was another fault, I just wanted people to be aware this could happen, this may have been a one off.

How to *really* hard reset Universal to factory condition

With all this talk about WM5 devices not really resetting everything after a hard reset, and my device being dead and not recovering after a hard reset makes me think, there must be an alternate way to really hard reset a device back to factory condition.
I tried a lot of combinations of presses to no end. The only thing I am suspicious about but did not play with is a red/white round sticker (which looks like it is hiding a button) under the battery (upper left corner).
Anyone know what that is, or is there a way to do a harder reset? Taking the battery out for a few days did not help either.
Because flash memory actually needs erasing rather than just resetting I doubt it is possible to clear it with a simple button press. It may be you can do a normal hard reset and hold down a button to bypass loading data from the flash then format it. But I've no idea really.

Re-flash the ROM?
uuummm some where in this forum i read that if you have wm2005 and go to boot loader mode you get an option over there to clear the cache or memory something like that, and that would give you a clean installation.....
haven't tried it though.....and i doubt i would get such an option in wm2003se, also i have a similar problem i did a complete flash reinstallation of rom to my device and after the installation i opened windows media player (wasnt the first thing i opened, but didnt copy any files)and guess what....i had a song available over there..... which i could actually play and it did....i checked the location of the file and it was somewhere in my device or documents dont quite remember i did a hard reset again and same issue....
after that i have'nt tried anything the rom is same i just deleted the folder manually but i would also like to know how to TOTALLLLLLY ERASE ALL DATA from the device and clean install everything
regards
on the XDA II and WM5 you hold down the buttons to resent stage then i gives you three options. One of these I am sure clears the phone
I hard reset my Universal several times (well I think I did at least)
Press the soft reset plus the two "-" buttons and you will have a white screen asking if you want to put back your HTC back factory default
Unfortunately that standard hard reset, doesn't do it. I am still stuck at reboot, and the radio rom version shows the attempted upgrade version (01) that started the problem in the first place.
i tried some of them according to herein, but some of them were not function.

there's a little icon called "clear storage" which brings your settings to the factory's default. what's wrong with it?
i'm stuck too in bootloader with my mda pro

Click to collapse
This may be too late, but there's no way to do any sort of a reset to revert back to a previous ROM... the only thing you can do is reflash the earlier ROM.

ok ... now the final BIG request ... who can give us an update that works. the patched Maupgradeut_noid is not working with the latest upgrade.
thanks.
To revert back to clean copy of OS (i.e newly installed OS)
Hi,
Just to share with you my experience in reverting my phone to its original OS condition. Before that, just to give you guys some background.
1. Upgraded from PPC2003 to WM5
2. Tried install some patch to enable file transfer (OBEX) in BT
3. Suddenly, the phone screen gone missing. Phone shows No Signal. Cannot receive call.
3a. Did a OS reflash again, but still does not solve the problem.
4. **Panic for a moment **
5. Looked thro Program Files, and seems like some appln i installed were not erased despite doing a hard reset. So, i guess the hard reset doesnt erase some portion of the memory
6. Googled for a solution, but most said do hard reset
7. Went back xda-developers.com site to look for solution
8. Finally found a method. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1164331 to do a format on the memory
Now, my phone is working fine. The phone screen is back and it shows my telco name, and can receive call
Hope this helps.
Rgds,
Choon
you're in the wrong forum mate

Locked out of Phone

Hi all,
I recently applied the WM6 upgrade http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372485 to my PDA.
However, I removed the battery so I could take out the SIM card, and now it won't accept my PIN anymore. It seems like the registry has become corrupt and does not recognise the PIN anymore.
I can't get into the phone, and a hard reset does not work (I know how it's done, unfortunately). I have also let the battery drain completely (including backup), and it does not hard reset the phone.
What can I do? Are there any tools that can wipe the device through USB?
Thanks!
Problem Solved: Flashed device with provider's original ROM upgrade.. I see this is an issue with WM6
have you perform the hard resett this way ?

Cool, thanks for that. Should help for the next time
Have to disable this Corporate PIN policy now..

Titan keeps soft resetting on its own!!!!! plz HELP

My titan keeps soft resetting on is own, it'll boot up to the splash screen the all of a sudden soft reset by itself. can anybody out there help?
DO a hard reset. Did you just install a custom rom or radio?
I did a hard reset, and its a custom ROM but i've had it for months. This just started today
I say reflash everything
just did, still same issue, i even did a new ROM. the phone didnt soft reset at all while i had it in bootloader mode
Then I say a hardware failure and time for a replacement
Any idea on what might be causing it?
A hardware failure. Some chip on the pc board is going bad.
Thanks man.
I had flashed a ROM on my wife's Mogul awhile back and it has just started doing the SAME thing... random soft resets... so before blaming hardware there might be a reason why multiple people are having this issue....
Have any of you tried this out yet.

wont boot...didnt even rom upgrade!

so i was just trying to charge my phone and the screen gave all these funny characters and the screen froze up, so i reset it with the reset button. it does get to the white HTC screen with red wording but thats it....whats up? can i use the techniques of the failed rom flashes to try to boot my phone?
phone charges though =P....but what good is that. any ideas before i just try to hard reset (and do a rom update for the heck of it)?
I bad the same problem last week. The HD runs after formating the storage-card and reflash a new ROM.
PS only flashing has no working. It's possible that only formating works...
Try to take the battery out for 1 minut and the start it again, it worked for me.

[Q]

Hi everyone,
I've unplugged my HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) while it was synchronizing with windows 7 and stock on synch. with no actual progress, then I removed the battery but only the "smart mobility" and RGD displayed and then nothing happened "black screen".
Do any one knows what happened and to fix it back to normal?
Thanks,
Suficom,
I think that the register and/or the system files and/or the ROM's software of your phone were damaged somehow with a little or high intensity that I'm unable to especify now.
If you did'nt get it fixed yet, try to remove SIM and SD cards and then restart the BlackStone (it worked to me once...lol). If negative, try a Hard Reset on that. If it don't work too, I'd advise you to put a new ROM on your HTC; but be aware that doing this two last procedures, you will loose all out of the information of yours that isn't placed on the SD card.
Tell us your progress!
Good Luck!
Stay in peace!
If it was just synchronizing you can just do a hard reset (hold vol down + power). This will reset your phone to factory conditions.
If you were flashing a rom which failed, you should download a rom and flash it to your phone. You can download the stock rom from the HTC site.
