Chainfire 3D driver - Gen8 General

hello fellow archos users,
as we know performance on the archos devices is not the greatest and there is always room for improvement. so im requesting that users with root try out chainfires new android 3d driver and get some benchmark results, i would try this myself but i do not have root.
for comparisons sake could you please use quadrant and get before and after results so we can compare the performance boost (if any)
for anyone willing here is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427
Thankyou

I'll try this but i first want to hear what other say to this

Tried this 5 minutes ago and the app installs fine, but once you get to the part where you actually install the "driver" it shows an error that says "impossible to write /system directory"

Maybe you don't have a full R/W filesystem.
I would try it, if someone would say, that it works.

Installing the files manually made my tablet lock up and it will not restart. So don't try to install these drivers.
Luckely I have Urukdroid and made a backup on external SD first.

lol, i have urukdroid so I DO have full r/w, it just doesnt install automatically on our tablets, u need to do do it manually as said by cardefbel and that breaks your os as stated by him

Thankyou cardefbel for testing this, its sad to hear that it doesnt work
ill keep an eye on the thread and let everyone know when something more stable arises.

Installed V2.0 on my A70S
Same quadrant score, But I see a boost in the corridor 3D test (around 60fps in the steps). Unable to run Riptide3D (tegra) because the game tests at the begining if there is 2 or more cores.
will try more tegra games later.

I would love to see a HEX color chooser instead of rgb for the nightmode. Its really hard to know what you are setting when there is no box to type it in manually. Just the sliders.

You've done something wrong mate. Chainfire has installed correctly on Gen8s since version 1.8. I've had it installed for weeks.
BTW, Quadrant scores don't really change, but game performance is better if you use the Texture Resizing in Chainfire.

Wasn't that version 1.7? Have you tried 1.8-2.0?

I have tested chainfire 3D on a Archos 70S (rooted with Urukdroid 1.0) with Samourai II. It works like a charm.
the gameloft games seem more fluid.
Chainfire is really a good app !

[Q] internal memory i cant open....

OK the problem is whenever I try to access the internal memory on Acer a 500 my windows explorer stops working.and as I am new to this OS(Android) I can't find any sort of file manager on the device......the version of my software is 3.1 so in order to get working do I need to update my device...?.....
I would suggest updating. My A500 works much better with my PC once I put 3.2.1 on it. You'll also want to get a filebrowser from the market.

You also may want to root your device, and get full access to the internal.
Astro, ES File Explorer, File Manager HD are some good file managers for android.
i understand that rooting means some sort of unlocking thing how dose one do that n if I do so shall I do it after updating my system to ice cream sandwich or 4.0 something.I am so sorry for my ignorance in this matter as I have said I am relatively new to this OS Android..ty

Well, ICS will be the same way, in stock mode.
If you want to see the full internal of your Tab, well, you just have to root.
Granted, installing the correct drivers will allow you to see a portion of your internal memory, but to see all of it, you have to root.
Also, try installing a file manager on your tab. You should be able to see your Downloads folder at the very least.
But I will say, install some drivers. This is why your windows is flubbing the dub.
tnk u... I did download the drivers but it did not work that is why i posted it here..and also I will try to root it after the update..thank u fr ur help....one thing which one will be better the ics or any one of the custom rom's avail here....
I'm rooted, I run my own custom Rom (picture signature).
Also, I have the android Dev Kit installed on my windows 7 pc. Not to mention Java SDK. So I think I have all the drivers covered, one way or another.
I think the problem is with your drivers, and the fact you are not rooted.
Note that my rom is for an a501 and not an a500.
I can't tell you to root it, that is your choice. But, you will still need android drivers for it. Right now, your pc knows it's there, it just cant understand or see it.

ICS, will not be out for some time. Maybe 6 months. Who knows...
i want to root it so that I will get maximum out of my device.one last thing can u recommend any good rom for my device.I can provide all my device info...if that is needed ty
YOU need to read up on each rom, its YOUR choice and what I like may not be suitable for you... Look in dev section, the A500 has the lions share of cooked roms....

[Scripts] The Legit Zip (Feb 8, 2012) & Nifty Coniptions Tweaks v1.01

Updated tweaks are at bottom of this post
Here is a flashable zip of 3 scripts that when put together speed up your phone and make it faster.
The niftyconiptionstweaks was meant only for the HTC Evo 4g but if your phone supports "init.d" then try it out if you want to and please report back. It may not even flash in recovery because the phones are different but its worth a shot. If it works, please post saying it does and what kind of phone you have. The Legit Zip should work for any phone.
To determine if your phone supports "init.d", download a file manager like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer, go to "system", then "etc". If you come across a folder named "init.d" then your phone may support it.
I did not write these scripts, I just edited them to work like Car-O-Dopes tweaks. It basically has the same values as Car-o-Dopes tweaks. It is best to use this on a Sense rom. I used the S97ramscript, KickAssKernel, and 02sictweaks but I changed the values of each script to match what Car-o-Dopes tweaks do, and I wanted to share this with you all because it makes installing these tweaks easier and faster. Thanks to zeppelinrox for the kickasskernelizer, Juwe11 for the S97ramscript, Smokinl1337 for the 02sicktweaks, coffehandle for giving me the idea when he made his own tweaks, and Car-o-Dope for coming up with the ultimate combination of out-of-memory settings and sysctl tweaks that make your phone smooth as butter.
I use this on my HTC Evo 4g running Shooter E3D, with AnthraX kernel and it works like a charm.
I am in no way responsible if your device messes up or anything unwanted happens to it. Use at your own risk.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40376256/niftyconiptionstweaks.zip
Instructions: Follow Exactly
1) Make a nandroid backup incase something goes wrong or you want to revert.
2) Download a file manager like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer (I use Root explorer).
3) Open up root explorer and go to "system", then "etc", then "init.d". Click on the "Mount R/W" button so it turns to "Mount R/O" (that way you can delete files).
4) Delete any or move to a folder on your sdcard (incase you want to revert) any ram scripts or ram tweaks you may have that is in the "init.d" folder (examples of ram scripts or tweaks are 01sysctl, 06sysctl, 02sicktweaks, S97ramscript, 99supercharge, and 98Kickasskernel).
5) Also if you are running v6 supercharger, you need to un-supercharge. If you are running Kickass Kernelizer, you need to un-kernelize and do not run those scripts while you have the niftyconiptionsscripts installed.
6) Uninstall any ram manager apps or task killers and do not use these.
7) After you uninstall all of that, reboot your phone and verify that none of the scripts you had before are still installed. (it will mess with the scripts you are about to install).
8) Boot into recovery (preferably Amon Ra).
9) Once in recovery, you need to mount /system, then mount /data.
10) Find the niftyconiptionstweaks.zip you downloaded and flash it.
11) After you flash the zip, go back and unmount /system. Don't mess with the /data because after you flashed the zip, it automatically unmounted the /data for you.
12) Reboot phone and enjoy. Let your phone set at the lock screen for about 2 minutes, unlock and let it set for another 2 minutes to let it settle in. Your phone will become dramatically smoother after about an hour.
UPDATE:
Nifty Coniptions Tweaks
Updated niftyconitpionstweaks. Install just as you would before and follow directions as posted above. I got rid of some unnecessary settings in the scripts. Also your sdcard read ahead speed will change to 512kb which is the optimal value for the evo.

The Legit Zip
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40376256/Nifty-v1.01/TheLegitZip.zip
Here is The Legit Zip I just put together. This has the same settings as the V6 Supercharger on option 8 and the Kickasskernalizer. I did not change any values to these so its the same as installing those two scipts manually. Again, I did not write these scripts, I just put them into a tweak bundle to make it easier to install. Thanks to zepplinrox for making the V6 supercharger and the Kickasskernalizer. To install this, follow the same instructions in the first post.
To see if the settings stuck, download Rom Toolbox Pro and go to the performance tab, Kernel tweaks or Sysctl Tweaks (depending on what version of the application you have) and see if it reads as Min Free KBytes - 4096, Dirty Ratio - 95, Dirty Background Ratio - 60, VFS Cache Pressure - 10. Then go to the Auto Memory Manager and see if it reads as 6,12,150,165,180,200.
If you would like me to add another version of the V6 Supercharger just let me know.
Have fun and hit that thanks button if you like it.

[How To] (video) Supercharge Ice Cream Sandwich!!!

EDIT: This doesn't work on ODEX ROMs! That would be stock ROMs, as most custom ROMs are deodexed. If it is an odex ROM, you can do the mod, but you have to do it manually (the web app doesn't work). Check out the second post in the supercharger thread for a how-to. But if you are on a custom ROM the method in the video will work!
Alright, so I have been reading about how to supercharge ICS for awhile, but the process looked daunting. However I figured it out, and it works great! This will work on ANY ROM, so try it out!
I have been using this for awhile, and it's just super smooth. I've been using it a lot lately, and it hasn't given me a bit of lag yet! It's just gone!
What is V6?
V6 supercharger is a script that manages the RAM memory. This makes multi-tasking much faster, and it knows when to kill off apps that are taking a lot of RAM. This makes your phone a lot faster and more efficient!
Here is the person who made the script: V6 Supercharger
Here is a dl link to the script: DOWNLOAD LINK
I'm in! So... How Do I Do this?
Well I made a video for you:
Here are instructions:
1. Download the supercharger script from the link above and put it on the root of your SD card.
2. Get an app called script manager from the market. It's free. Open it up and click on the supercharge script from the list of what's on your SD card. Click the SU button, then hit run.
3. Go through the setup. Set scrolling speed to 1. When they ask if you want to integrate it into the system, say yes. You will get to a list of about 30 options after a little bit.
4. Select number 6 (I know I said 7 in the video, but 6 has better multitasking) for this phone, and hit enter. It will go through a whole bunch of stuff.
5. It will ask you to superclean and restart. SAY NO. You'll do that inn a minute. Just hit the home button.
6. Open the browser on your phone and go to : android.mimic.ca and hit the upload button. There will be a popup, select root explorer (Install it if you don't have it already). Go into system/framework/ and select the services.jar file. It will take you back to the website. Hit upload. The page will reload. Now select the CMW flashable zip option and download it. Go to root explorer and move that to the root of your SD card.
7. Reboot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvic, then flash the zip. Reboot. Done! Enjoy the speedieness!

Let me know what ya think!
Alright, so enough questions have been asked that I should start giving answers to them here.
Q. Do I need to re-flash the file in recovery if I want to make changes?
A. Not if you make changes to the the supercharger script (ie. change options). The only time you have to flash it is if you upgrade/change ROMs. Just remember to make a new one, and don't flash the old file!
Q. Isn't option "X" better/faster/easier on battery?
A. Play around with them and see what works for you. I like option 6. Not too aggressive, but it still keeps control. Just use the options that are for your phone (ie 512HP for this phone because it has that much RAM. So option 5, 6, or 7). I also use the nitro-lagnullifier. It makes things even faster!
Q. Does it affect battery life?
A. Yes, in a good way! I get better battery life.
Q. How do I know if it worked??
A. Open up script manager, and go to the supercharger file. let it run, and once you get to the menu with all the options, it will tell you if you are supercharged or not right below that.
Those were the most commonly asked questions. If they don't answer your questions then post 'em!
battery life
so this looks promising but how does it the effect on battery life with ICS.

This shouldn't hurt the battery. I used to use it on my Epic fairly often especially once the Gingerbread leaks started coming out. There are several different routes to go with the script too. It can also be used to improve multitasking such as when you have multiple apps open at once.

You can patch it manually. Check out the link in the OP. However, it requires unziping the file, opening it in notepad++, editing the code, zipping it back up, putting it back in the phone, and editing some stuff with terminal emulator. It's a bit over most people's heads, and the website makes it easy by making the patched services.jar a flashable zip.
If you want to do it, be my guest. It's all in the second post of the supercharger thread.

[ShellScript] AndroidFilesInstaller.sh by Adrian DC

Hi everyone !
There's now a lot of features.
Read the webpage to get more informations.
Would you like to install files on Android quickly and with securities? Then read this..
Here are some previews of an earlier version :
This script will run with SManager SManager (ScriptManager),
which is a free and easy to use application for Android.
Before doing anything to the Android system files,
it is obviously highly recommended and adviced
to have a backup in case the files aren't compatible.
Please see the recoveries softwares specific to your phone.
I cannot guarantee this script will work for everyone,
I even know it won't work for everyone because each phone is different
and given the various versions of android and custom roms,
the shell and busybox may not be the same.
You'll need the root permissions to run this script,
I avoided it to run unless it gets root permissions.
busybox also has to be installed (both often go together).
I use busybox 1.20 on my SONY ICS 4.0.3 ROM for the SE Xperia Arc S.
List of phones confirmed to be working with this script :
- Sony Ericsson Xperia S - Android ICS
You can download the script and get infos here :
You can find more on this thread of the french Android website and forum :
[Infos] Modifications de la ROM SONY ICS Officielle on PhonAndroid
Thanks for taking interest in this script.
You may contact me to report a bug or ask for a functionality,
or even to say it works fine xD
Have a good day !

I added some nice features in the v7 :
- Automatic AndroidFilesInstaller.sh on sdcard search and replace to update quickly
- Some securities added to the transfert of files.
- Folders with spaces in the name now work too
I'm readapting ViewtyGate website to a new ArcSGate.
Easier to manager files, I'll use my direct files uploader scripts.

Works perfectly for me and a friend using other Android versions.
The script now also request SManager.
If SManager isn't detected or Root access not given,
you won't be able to run the script. It'll stop at the beginning.
This version 8 is online and available, let me know !
ADC
The v17 of AndroidFilesInstaller.sh will handle complete folders installation from the v16,
aswell as a new security to avoid installation if the file wasn't properly copied to the system,
for example when the available memory space is unsufficient.
Online tonight.
I always get the following error since a few days:

I use the newest ScriptManger, busybox 1.20.2 (also 1.19.4) and I've root and mounted the /system as rw.

Hey !
The problem mainly comes from an incomplete linux shell,
and this comes because of an incomplete version of busybox and / or superuser.
Try updating the su binary, and using an other busybox, such as 1.19.4 (as you did, works great for me..).
Bye !
Hmm, SU is up to date. I re-installed Busybox three times with the app from the market. Hmmm...
The released online script didn't change for a while, therefore it can only be because of faulty busybox..
Various users had the problem, only answer I can tell is try to find a working busybox,
it would seem some are wrong or not entirely installed....
Strange, I installed my ROM hundred times. It worked always.

UMS Mounter

Hi all,
First thread here .
So, on with it. I've been a member on this forum for quite some time, but never felt like posting or anything as I didn't have anything interesting to share and all the questions I might've got at some point got already answered...
Anyway, about a year a go I bought a Samsung Galaxy S III. Cute little 'monster', powerful and all... and I got hit by MTP. I'm a Linux user, so getting MTP to work was a huge pain. So I started reading, digging, found out that some guys already implemented some scripts for mounting the external SD as UMS... the problem was that they didn't work on my end.
So I developed my own little app. Nothin' fancy, two buttons to switch from MTP to UMS and back.
In the meanwhile, I changed my phone to a Note 2 LTE and did some more tweaking on my app and now I'm kinda ready to share it with you guys:laugh:.
You need to have a rooted phone equipped with busybox (my app will prompt warnings telling you you're not rooted or you don't have busybox, but I thought it was nice to tell you here the requirements).
One small thing, besides the usual "I'm not responsible to any damages brought to your phone and all": after transferring to / from your SD card, please use the eject command (or the safety remove feature on Windows) to unbind the card from your operating system before changing back to UMS. That way you ensure no harm is brought to you SD card or to the data on it.
All that being said, you can download the app from here: devver.ro/ums-mounter/ (I don't have enough posts to give an external link, so you'll have to enter the text manually in your browser). The text on that page is written both in Romanian (my native language) and English so there shouldn't be any problems .
This app should work on every device that has an SD card and runs Android 4.3+. Oh yeah, there might be some glitches on devices with Samsung's official releases (bummer, I know), but that's related to some screw-ups on their end, 'cause they're random from ROM to ROM.
Anyway, hope you'll like it (if you test it). If you have and problems, comment here and attach a logcat and I'll see if I'm smart enough to help you.

Version 1.1
Changes:
- please uninstall the previous version, as I've changed the signature on the file ;
- added a small sanity check which will force you to unplug your phone from the computer before switching between modes (hopefully this will also force you to safely remove the external sd card );
- fixed (i hope at least) the situation where the card is not mounted as usb on Touchwizz related ROMs;
As usual, the app can be downloaded from devver.ro/ums-mounter. Thanks again for testing .

It mounts the card slots (although it needs a reboot sometimes), but the PC shows up two empty usb slots and the sd card is not mounted.
Im running DN3 V5+.
I do hope you can fix it.
Thank you.
@erljayp: that's one ROM which is based on a stock ROM and, as I mentioned in my OP, there might be glitches woth 'em.
I'll setup my phone into dual booting so that's gonna be a bit easier to test these ROMs and hopefully sort them out.
Thanks for testing my little app
your app said that i haven't installed busybox yet. then i tried to install busybox from play store and it said the same. what problem?

I've used play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox to install busybox. Basically, after you install the app from the play store, you need to open it in order for it to actually download and install the busybox binaries. If you just downloaded the app from play store but didn't actually open it, that may be the problem

oh yes, it works. thankyou :good::laugh:
New version, please check OP. Should resolve the DN3 related issues (this should apply to all ROMs which are based on stock Samsung). 'Njoy!

Now working in DN3 V5+, but I have fluctuating transfer rates. What is the average transfer rate you have?
Thank you.
@erljayp: i get about a maximum of 2 MB/s transferring a file bigger than 50-100 MB, which I find quite satisfying. Also, if I'm not mistaking, the transfer rates are influences by a lot of factors: the card's class, if you're transferring a lot of small files (mp3's, for example) etc.
Anyway, glad that sorted your problem. Like I said before, my app should now work not only on the DN3, but on all ROMs (CM11 based, AOSP, AOKP, ROM's based on the stock Samsung release). If you find a ROM that won't work, Iemme know and I'll see what's to be done about it .

Don't try and switch pages All you need to do is "play" with the 2 buttons. I think the "page" you're referring to is something i use for debugging.. will remove it in a future release

Nope. Those are the only requirements. Could you please give me a link to your ROM's thread?

You don't have to be connected to the computer. Try and run the following in the terminal emulator:
- su (if you didn't);
- mount > /sdcard/mount.log
And after that, on your internal storage you shall find a file called mount.log. Give me the contents of that file, please.

I think you ran the command including the dash ("-" sign).
Perhaps i didn't express myself well enough, sorry...
1). su (for gaining root access, no matter if you're doing this from the terminal emulator or from your pc);
2). mount > /sdcard/mount.log
Again, sorry for the confusion.
