Xoom's day out! =) - Xoom General

It was a beautiful sunny Saturday in New York City, so I took my Xoom out for a little shooting test to see the camera capabilities. I have to say, I am VERY impressed by its photo/video quality under normal sunlight environment.
And... there are windows for Alexander McQueen's work... my girlfriend's favorite..

Last, a HD video shooting a street magician swallowing the long sword... I think it is real... I can't find the trick, can you? Please let me know

Very impressive, the xoom picture quality as well as your choice of images.

Nice pictures! And quality!
Can you also post a link to archive with full size images? I think I'm not the only one who will be interested.
Also the swallowing seems real. Unles the sword folds telescopically, but It doesnt seem to.

Thats either a really good slight of hand trick where he swaps the sword or he can really swallow a sword. I watched it three times and the only place where he could have swapped the sword was the point where he points to the other exibit, so I don't know.

Love how he keeps looking at the Xoom in the vid

yeah ur right, ... I read it all, word by word, although am not interested in Legend (into desire) but just a warm up for the desire review
which i dont think will be that different from the Legend
It just confirming what I said about the great possibility that the Desire will have a way louder speaker than N1 if HTC uses the same one as Legend
But it's a little deceiving about the direct sunlight, Techradar was quite the opposite saying it's perfectly readable
this review is the best at the moment (techradars is good too but...)....the sunlight thing for is very subjective as i see it, one sees it this way one sees it the other way!!

I really dont see any deal-breakers here, .. I mean, ok the AMOLED does not look so great under direct sun-light, what are you gonna do with the phone under direct sun-light anyways? .. making a call probably, you can easly see the numbers and names. (you should not worry about seeing the numbers looking soooo great)
I cant imagine anyone sitting outside his home and positioning his phone under-direct sun light to see a movie, can you?
yes that's what i am saying irkan...i posted it in another thread too where someone complaint about the sunlight. i don't have a problem with it and as you said i won't be watching a movie while outside under the sun.

I agree. I checked visibility under direct sunlight, and I can see quite enough for doing any basic function. All other things doing on direct sunlight is pointless with any phone.

Slide Show of the Unboxing
The reviews are basically going to say what's been echoed throughout the boards: The pros, more or less, being that the device will be fast and will run the latest/cleanest Android build directly from Google. The cons, more or less, will be about everything everyone's complaining about (lack of HSPA+, expandable slot, and some other downgrades).

All the reviews are essentially saying the same thing. The pros being more or less the Google experience, untouched and unaltered; super fast; and direct Google updates. The cons being what every one has/is complaining about: lack of HSPA+ support, not a huge improvement giving the context of near-future devices, NFC has potential but nothing major for the moment, lack of expandable SD slot, lack of HD recording, etc.
There are no more surprises. People are getting this phone primarily for Gingerbread and future direct/clean updates, but not much else.

Example photos?

Hi Guys,
Had my Desire HD for 5 days.. thinking of selling it and buying a Nexus S!
Just wanted to see some examples of photos taken with the Camera?
I've no need for amazing photo quality but still want something reasonable to justify the hassle in switching.
Thanks in advance
I took this picture in a completely dark room: Click to see how well it turned out
Also when you check out that picture, I have a picture of a fluffy green android I took, that was in a relatively dark room. (It's the one taken after December 16th)

Awesome thanks ... works now i'm at home so must have been my work PC playing up.
Looks good, pretty sure i'm going to swap
* UPDATE *
I'm now a proud owner of a Nexus S .
Went into my local Carphone Warehouse and from the minute i held it i knew i would buy it!
In my opinion it's positives over the Desire HD are:
- Speaker clarity and volume is 10x better
- Handset feels like a perfect size and weight (Desire HD was very big and heavy)
- The Super AMOLED screen is amazing!
- The camera takes photos and videos that i'm more than happy with
Good luck mate, its definitely a better phone than the hd, but the hd is a better spec

Thanks.
Yea i agree the HD is a great phone but for me just not practical.
I found typing on the HD a real pain and made endless mistakes. With the Nexus S it's easy
Welcome.
I also think my NExus S is beautiful.
You know, after spending the last few days wading through trolls who came to this forums just to trash a phone they don't own, don't have any intention of buying, and never even held, it sure is refreshing to see a post from someone who acknowledges the shortcomings of this device and yet, is still satsified with it because it is, in their opinion, right for them.
Thank you for this thread, OP. Let no one else but you decide what is right for you.

Post Pictures from your Xperia Play!

Hello Everyone,
I haven't seen anyone start a post for this yet so I thought I would get the ball rolling. The only edits that have been made to these photos is resizing and reorienting. I've also made some comments at the very end.

I know some of the critics knock the XPlay for not having the best camera, but I think hardware-wise it is pretty decent. The problem is the software that it comes with, which is the native android camera app. It kinda sucks!
* No touch to focus
* No metering options (which really blows....highlights and all)
* No focusing square to tell me what it's focusing on (it highlights the whole screen)
Thankfully since it's a software issue hopefully it will be remedied...either by Sony for the hacking community trying to port over the Xperia Arc/Neo Software.
Anyways, please post ur photos if you have a XPlay!
Here are some if mine

I find the flash tends to wash out the pictures, but I believe this is true of all camera phones with LED flashes.

Galaxy S2 - Airbourne adventures

When my Galaxy SII go flying.
Put your S2 in flight mode, fix it to something that flies, and post the videos - at least, that's what I intend to do!
A few years ago, I started flying RC planes and I ended up strapping my Nokia N93 (and then n93i) to the planes and filming (with mixed results). Last year I duct taped the GS2 to the underbelly of a small plane and was surprised when it worked well... what next?
This year, I built my first multirotor "heli" (QuadX) - How could I not strap my Galaxy S2 to it?! It's a much better aerial video platform.
In my latest adventure, my quad gets circled by a formation of birds - I managed to capture some of it on the video ..
(best in 720p)
From now on, I will just use this same thread to post newer videos as I know some of you like seeing them. Sometimes I track the flights with MyTracks, I might post the files here if anyone is interested.
Happy flying and please remember to put your phone into flight mode before launch! Having said that, I wonder if I could track the phone using samsungdive if it's in flight mode because it would be a great lost aircraft thing!
________________________________
If anyone else is thinking of trying this:
- if your surface is smooth, dry and vibration free, duct tape works wonders
- if vibration is present and the surface is uneven, odd, whatever, try foam and cable ties (zip ties)
I'd be great to see other Galaxy SII airborne adventures!
____________
Other videos of the S2 flying:
A bit shaky at times but otherwise OK
The one where the phone fell from the sky (some of you may have seen this one already)
