Google Nexus S: Unboxing and Hands-On
Slide Show of the Unboxing

The reviews are basically going to say what's been echoed throughout the boards: The pros, more or less, being that the device will be fast and will run the latest/cleanest Android build directly from Google. The cons, more or less, will be about everything everyone's complaining about (lack of HSPA+, expandable slot, and some other downgrades).

There's another software overview here of 2.3 from IntoMobile.
I can't help but notice the major scrolling lag at 2:58 onwards when he enables the Maps live wallpaper. Really disappointing to see the performance issues still not resolved. I guess we keep on waiting for proper GPU acceleration to fix that?

All the reviews are essentially saying the same thing. The pros being more or less the Google experience, untouched and unaltered; super fast; and direct Google updates. The cons being what every one has/is complaining about: lack of HSPA+ support, not a huge improvement giving the context of near-future devices, NFC has potential but nothing major for the moment, lack of expandable SD slot, lack of HD recording, etc.
There are no more surprises. People are getting this phone primarily for Gingerbread and future direct/clean updates, but not much else.

You may notice the curve on the NS.
MT4 looks thinner.
I got a good screen on MT4, and it doesn't have color fading or washout problem.
For fair comparison, I use same wallpaper. NS is surely a winner on this part
NS is clearly a winner on this.
Somehow I got red tint on the picture, but it actually didn't show such tint.

Do you mean the NS...?
I think both are barely the same when opening up xda.
I will upload a video to youtube to show the loading time.
Conditions:
both run on Skyfire and reloaded a few times on both.
both run on 3G and assumed both have similar reception.

Yes i mean NS
I had a rooted iphone running on t-mobile for a while, so today I went and opened a att account to try the iphone 4 for a few days. I did this because I was so disapointed in the browsing experience on the nexus s. The iphone will be going back but I am really pondering getting the mt4g which I owned for a few days before returning it because of bluetooth issues and the inability to send my contacts list to my car nav. I love the ns screen and styling but think I may go back to the mt4g since I will end up running a custom rom on whatever i choose.
Gosh that curved screen looks so sexy next to a normal flat phone.

Basically, the loading speed is tied between two.

Thank you for your comparison, my Chinese friend!!! (Hong Kong?)
How about the scrolling? which one is smoother?

Example photos?

Hi Guys,
Had my Desire HD for 5 days.. thinking of selling it and buying a Nexus S!
Just wanted to see some examples of photos taken with the Camera?
I've no need for amazing photo quality but still want something reasonable to justify the hassle in switching.
Thanks in advance
I took this picture in a completely dark room: Click to see how well it turned out
Also when you check out that picture, I have a picture of a fluffy green android I took, that was in a relatively dark room. (It's the one taken after December 16th)

Awesome thanks ... works now i'm at home so must have been my work PC playing up.
Looks good, pretty sure i'm going to swap
* UPDATE *
I'm now a proud owner of a Nexus S .
Went into my local Carphone Warehouse and from the minute i held it i knew i would buy it!
In my opinion it's positives over the Desire HD are:
- Speaker clarity and volume is 10x better
- Handset feels like a perfect size and weight (Desire HD was very big and heavy)
- The Super AMOLED screen is amazing!
- The camera takes photos and videos that i'm more than happy with
Good luck mate, its definitely a better phone than the hd, but the hd is a better spec

Thanks.
Yea i agree the HD is a great phone but for me just not practical.
I found typing on the HD a real pain and made endless mistakes. With the Nexus S it's easy
Welcome.
I also think my NExus S is beautiful.
You know, after spending the last few days wading through trolls who came to this forums just to trash a phone they don't own, don't have any intention of buying, and never even held, it sure is refreshing to see a post from someone who acknowledges the shortcomings of this device and yet, is still satsified with it because it is, in their opinion, right for them.
Thank you for this thread, OP. Let no one else but you decide what is right for you.

HTC Evo 3d vs Kingdom

I know the specs for the HTC Kingdom arent as good as the Evo 3d, particularly processor speed, but aesthetically, I'm not really sold on the Evo 3d. The two cameras on the back bother me a bit. In the meantime, my Evo 4g is still running strong so Im not hard pressed for a phone. Im going to wait for the Kingdom to release, or at least detailed images, before I make a decision. Anyone else interested in the Kingdom?

The reviews I have read so far on 3D are sketchy. I hear battery life is bad (no surprise there), 3D is cool, but hard to view, and Sense 3.0 is nothing more than more makeup. No extra functionality. And apparently the screen gets washed out in moderate to bright light.
Pluses include really fast speed, and Sprint didn't weigh it down with a ton of bloatware.
This is just from the few reviews I read.

Depending on what review you read they are all over the place. But in general most of them give kudos on battery, speed (better than the sensation cause of the extra RAM), solid camera and again SUPER FAST!!! Even call quality has been listed as good in most.
Nothing else I need to hear. 3D all day long.
...And you are asking this question in the Evo 4g forum, why?...

At last I can say WOW!!!

I had my mind set on the HTC M9. The "leaks" from evleaks had me drooling.
Watching the live event left me disappointed, then on to Samsung.
For me that phone is utterly stunning, I can't wait to get hold of this & add Nova Prime etc.

I agree with you, it does look outstanding. I cannot understand why so many people are complaining. Samsung have been rightly criticised for their lack of design, especially on the flagship devices. They did a good job with the Note 4 and they upped the bar with the S6.
The usual iDiots complaining it somehow looks like an iPhone, which apart from a similar speaker grill - it clearly does not... There will be those that gripe about the lack of removable battery and SD card of course (and they may have a point) but WAKE UP! This is a phone made by Samsung that actually looks gorgeous and actually looks like a flagship phone.
I am more of a Note fan so I won't be buying an S6 but am very much looking forward to seeing what they come out with for Note 5 this year if it builds upon this revamp of the Galaxy range.
I think the phone looks great. One issue that will bug the crap out of me is the fingerprints on the back. I want the black one, but may have to get white to mask it.

Next issue is spending the extra money for the 128gb. I need the storage.
Just curious. What do most people use all that storage for.

First take into account the OS size, so 32 is now 30 if you're lucky. If you have a kid like me, you take a lot of pics and vids. Average 13mp photo is 5mb or so each. Now with this phone, I'd have to copy all the data on my 128gb SD off to the phone storage. Taking into consideration I had a S4, S5, N3, N4, G2, G3, iphone 6. All photos and vids from each of those I have on my SD. It adds up.

They are giving us the new Touchwiz icons that look like they are the result of Touchwiz being raped and getting a back alley abortion. Nooooooooooo. I hope they at least include themes so that we can hide that mess. Then again, by the time this is actually released by Verizon, I assume a lot of us will have already moved on to non Samsung phones.
I think the biggest UI upgrade I can recall occuring on a Samsung device was maybe when the OG Note got Jellybean and looked fairly similar to the Note II and picked up some new features. Otherwise, Samsung has traditionally let as little as possible trickle down from their latest flagships to "last year's" model when doing updates---look at the Note 4 or the Note 3 Lollipop situation , for example. Neither phone was as smooth or as refined under Lollipop as it was under KitKat (I do not recall if the Note 3 was better under JB or KK). I certainly do not expect things like theme support or manual camera modes to ever trickle down to the Note 4. I'll just be glad to get its RF and battery performance back to where it was with KitKat.
I highly, highly doubt we ever see this.

His demo phone seems to be very laggy as hell with MM 6.0. Hopefully by the time we getting this it should be better.
It looks like it has a few things I might like. But the icons, dear lord are they bad. Way to iPhoneish for my liking.
The settings menu looks decent to me though.

Exactly why I hope they throw in themes. I hope somebody asks on the youtube page. He's been answering questions. (I tried to ask, but youtube won't let me sign in since I deleted G+ and my YT channel.)
