Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 rooted barely puts up a fight - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 from Google io event gets rooted :-D
I didn't see this posted if it was my bad please delete.
"Well what did you expect when the advance release of the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 came at Google I/O? Of course the thing is already rooted, but the surprisingly simple procedure might have something to do with it, too. The process simply involves mounting the Galaxy Tab’s file system and copying a few files that grant Super User access and you’re done. Doesn’t take more than about 15 minutes, which is about as fast as it gets these days (one-click apps aside). Credite goes out to @_mrbirdman_ and a crew from AllDroid.org. You can find the full instructions at the source link below. Now the question is whether or not Sammy patches this method up before launching to the general public."

One thing though - The Google IO version may be different than the final release product. (SD SLOT PLEASE!) So we better wait and see. Congrats for the lucky people with the limited edition tabs though!

Wasn't the bootloader unlocked?
Sent from my HTC Glacier

yeah the bootloader was unlocked making it a synch for root. Pretty sure they wanted us to gain super user permissions since it was all developers at the conference getting tablets

Can you be more specific (at least for me, maybe someone with a clue will come along )? Do you mean the Samsung App store, I was under the same impression, but I never actually read anything official about it. I think I have heard from other I9000 owners that they can't access Samsung App Store through Kies and that the newest Kies didn't add the functionality.
Their app store is definitely a work-in-progressl, so I wouldn't expect it to actually be made available before FroYo, assuming it comes at all. If anyone has a link, with comment from Samsung that'd be great.
Yes i mean the Samsung store.I thougt i heard there would be two phones the could use the samsung app store. Wave 8500 and galaxy S. Seams we with Sgs only have a demo version.

You heard correct, at least a few reviews mentioned this, it doesn't mean that they were correct when they wrote the information. I was really hoping for it to save me from the brutal dearth of games in SK due to draconian laws, SlideMe and PSXforDroid are a big help, but not offering quite the top level content that Samsung has for the Wave...g2g, Gestapo are at the door.
the bell I9000M has the Samsung Store (Samsung Apps) and it comes with 4 free apps, then if you sign up online in the pc, you can download even more.
it's accessible via the new Kies, you use the same user id and password you created when you sign up for a Samsung Apps account
The galaxy s i9000 in europe comes with 7 free apps, maybe its them you can access.
Anyway it would be nice with full access as we in sweden dont have the paid apps in Android Market.
The Samsung App store is really ment for their other phones based on Bada like the Galaxy I8500 Wave. Its totaly useless to us. And the only thing in it was some crappy apps. Honestly don't worry too much about it

I guess by "some people" you meant yourself
The Preview SDK includes:
An early Android 3.0 system image for use in the Android emulator <------- *********
An Android 3.0 library with non-final APIs
A new WXGA emulator skin for an extra large Android Virtual Device
New documentation for Android 3.0, including a complete API reference, new developer guides, and an API differences report between Android 3.0 and 2.3.
From here : http://developer.android.com/sdk/preview/index.html
CPG
Yeap, there is a system image and I already pulled some apps ^^
Edit: The AVD is extremely slow... meeeh..
could someone at least get the browser working on the tab http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930352
Source still needs to drop!
Same case with gingerbread. It was **** but ran. Once source dropped the magic began.
The launcher won't run with anything but the standard Xoom resolution

SIR!!
YES SIR!!
How about a please? Or wait until there's at least some semi-useful AOSP source available, the SDK build is not complete enough to be very useful. If you need to have a play with it, try using the VM in the SDK install.
From the 3.0 Platform highlights taken 'Android 3.0 is the first version of the platform designed to run on either single or multicore processor architectures.'
So I guess no need to leave the Tab behind !!! So I hope samsung will go ahead and deliver us this update!
Just one small story about Samsung, Tab, and Honeycomb...
About Samsung:
I hope that Samsung will port it for me so. Usually this is not normal in the real world, but Samsung will drop 2.3 for Galaxy S what is nowadays and old device, Galaxy Tab is newer and almost the first real, high quality Android tablet. This is clearly a tablet, what Honeycomb made for. The most sold Android phone is the Galaxy S and the most sold Android tablet the Galaxy Tab (with the totally agreements of problems about Samsung made this device before Google made the correct platform for it...), so nowadays the Samsung brand itself is very very strong and not just about the last years productions but these 2 products (real!)! So I think Samsung could make a 'small suicide' step if they forgot this device and forgot their users. They promised nothing, but could be a very negative echo about Samsung if they leave this device in the past, without any development.
About Honeycomb:
That is really not need hardcore hardware. The only real hw requirement is the strong video performance, but this is almost just for the new stock homescreen application. The lot full OpenGL handled screens and effects really need strong graphic performance, but Galaxy Tab in this case is not weak! For such situations the GFX performane is enought I think. The dual core CPU is just one very good addon, to make faster everything and make the device as one real device from the future, but for normal works the current hardware is enought. If Samsung dont want to overload the Tab then just need to leave out the new 'home'. For tabbed browsing the current RAM capacity is need to be enought. The device will not as fast as Xoom, but who care? Just leave out the needless plus features and give to the user the Honeycomb base with new browser, new gmail client, new settings, etc, etc... these are not power hungry things. One brand new device will better that Tab, but anyway we could use almost enything, and Samsung could make their brand more strong with hype and satisfied users of Tab as they do with Galaxy S.
Conclusions:
New Samsung devices? no problem, they will better, people will buy them, cause the new OLED screen, some new features, faster and harder hardware... but Tab could use Honeycomb as from this aspect it need nothing extra, and as a real tablet it need the OS what handle it in such way without any over glitches.
I hope Samsung will make a right decision, because there is no any real problem (nor technical nor business like) behind it!
Hi,
And please Samsung! Read my previous post!!!

You are completely true about this Samsung will push out the Tab2 in 16 days at the MWC2011 press event. If the tab is going to get the 3.0 its going to be the last update for the device. Also the Galaxy S is going to get its killing blow in 16days since the Galaxy S 2 is also comming out there.
Yes as you wrote, Samsung will drop the 2 new device to make new strong apperiance in the global market with the new devices, developments, etc... new user will buy them of course, some old user will sell the old products, and buy a new one but far from all. 2.3 for SGS will the latest as your wrote, and I hope that 3.0 will also the latest for SGT, its not bad, this is the only needed. With it Samsung will get strong user satisfactions, old users could boost the global brand loyality. I dont want Android 7.0 on these devices... theses versions is more then enought for this products, and this not sign that I will never buy a new Android device... more over... I will buy just not now (if Samsung leave me alone, I will never buy Samsung 'mobile' again, and this is true for lot of people), and if Samsung will go on this way I will buy one Samsung again... 6 month ago I hate Samsung with their software developments for SGS, now, currently, I like them, because they have enought power on software development to make themself one of the best. There are problems? where not? If Samsung could reach user satisfactions, with the current sw, hw developments they could be the largest company in this busines. The target is it, I think.
Just drop the new devices what will shine, if I were in situatuions to buy a new device, without hesitate I could buy them. There are lot of people in the word who just wait to these products... and there are some others as me, who bought the first device to simply satisfy, and we were those user who make stronger the reputation of Samsung. Is it problem to make me available Honeycomb? Don't thing so. But of course Samsung could use a wrong receipt, hope that will not!
YES I can taste the honeycomb anytime soon...

Original Verizon Tab Gets Gingerbread

I currently have a rooted Tab. If I update to GB will it screw up anything (other than unrooting)?
Original Samsung Galaxy Tab from Verizon gets Gingerbread update

Remember the original 7 inch Samsung Galaxy Tab? Verizon has given new blood to the ol' boy with a firmware update that gives the device a Gingerbread transfusion. The tablet was launched with Froyo installed and the update from Verizon adds some new features as well as Gingerbread functionality.
Android 2.3.5 is now on Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Tab
Besides receiving Android 2.3.5, the Verizon sold Samsung Galaxy Tab will also have improved word selection and copy functionality, improved security for the PIN method as when using the PIN on the device, you will no longer be asked to enter a symbol as a numeric entry and a "View Data Plan" icon will be available to let you adjust your plan. At the same time, a feature from Verizon Data Service gives you a real-time peek at the amount of data you have consumed for the month to make sure you don't go over your contracted amount.
Other new features coming with the OTA update are a download manager app, the ability to use the front-facing camera to record video, more accurate portrait and landscape re-sizing of widgets, support for Verizon's pre-paid service, and perhaps most importantly the update brings some security patches from Google.
Once you've allowed the update to proceed to the end, let us know what you think of the changes by dropping a comment in the box below!

So... It is beginning to appear that the Google IO 10.1 tabs will not be updated?

I like to stay with stock so I can get movies and drm stuff,, but beginning to wonder if ICS will ever arrive for the Google IO sub model? I don't suppose anyone has authoritive info?
As far as I know they are a different build than the other tabs and will not be updated. You might be able to do it yourself with Odin.
if you do not want to lose your unlocked and fastboot enabled bootloader, do not flash the odin package as is. remove the bootloader.bin from the package and/or create yourself a CWM zip and flash.
you can use any of the HC zips i created in the past as a guide if you go the CWM route. i believe you can also find CWM flashables for it in the dev section.
however, if you get a rolling screen, you will have to modify the LCD output accordingly in the kernel and use that, so it will be compatible with your current bootloader. you can reference this in the galaxy-2636 kernel sources on my github.
Will any of those approaches preserve ability ti get /run DRM content ire from Google Play (movies?)
Short answer: The Google I/O Version of the GT-7510 is supported by Google and not by Samsung. Samsung will not be updating it or posting an OTA update. If it will be updated, it will be directly from Google.
--
Longer answer: I spent about 3 hours on the phone with 6 Samsung techs on 16AUG2012 to get that answer. The group in charge of wifi tablets doesn't handle the Google I/O tablets, and they refer you to the cellular group. The cellular group then tells you that since the tab doesn't have a cell chip, it's not in their realm. In the end, Level 2 support on the cellular group had the answer above.
His recommendation was to "search the internet" for a custom rom and flash with that. He then reminded me that the tablet is out of warranty, so flashing isn't going to void anything. I agreed, but I can only imagine how many devices he's caused people to brick if he tells everybody that.
He also went on to say that Google is preparing their next flagship tablet and it won't be a Samsung device, it'll be an Acer device. When probed, he revealed it will be smaller than the 10.1" tab and it will be out sometime around holiday season 2012. I then told him the Nexus7 was already out and he was really confused.
If anyone else wants to try, the phone number for the cellular group is 1-877-652-4507. If they try to forward you to 1-800-SAM-SUNG, just ask for a manager or level 2.

What do you mean by stock? Vanilla android as in 3.0 and 3.1 as we originally had with these lovely I/O tabs, (so the last "Google supported" roms date from over a year ago now) or the later touchwiz offerings from Samsung not rooted etc? The I/O tab is a 7510 but with a nice exclusive back panel.
If you're still running3.1 you really are missing out on using the potential and power of this great device and can use any 7510 roms on it....
Mine is running 4.0.4 admittedly with touchwiz ( though Samsung have now 'toned it down' and it is far less cartoon-like) and it still remains one of the best performing and my most preferred tab (have zoom, transformer 101 and transformer prime ( complete cr*p).) It is rooted but of course you don't have to do that but even so gives no problems with films or dem that I have seen..
I downloaded latest Gt-p7510 ics rom from Samfirmware and flashed through Odin and it is now really flying and everything works tres bien
Screenshot attached showing movies works if that's what you mean by DRM etc...
I really can't recommend it strongly enough.... it's one of the earliest and best tabs which easily runs the latest iteration of android
Enjoy!!

Even tho the official Roms for this device have been close to untouched, there was some Samsung things in there stock. When I had to ship my io tab in I had to use a special number but it was still Samsung. All past updates have been thru Samsung not google. The guy I spoke to also told me the io tab was suppose to b updated to ics. But that was months ago and we see how that turned out. Just flash the one for the retail tabs and take precautions for ur bootloader. I flashed it and now I'm not locked anymore but I also don't have fastboot anymore (which I don't care about anyways.) All DRM stuff will work fine with the retail roms and touchwiz on ics isn't all that bad either

A few questions from someone who has never tried a Samsung device

First of all, I'm new to Samsung devices. Just got the S7 Edge (Exynos variant).I know the basics to Android (I think) since I've been using Sony devices since forever. I have a few questions and while some of them may be easily answered with a quick Google search, I thought I'd just add them here in case a few of you are feeling helpful today.
1: (Optional) How does one root the S7 Edge (SM-G935FD)?
2: What are the dangers of rooting a Samsung device, specifically the S7 Edge? Are they similar to Sony devices or other Android devices?
3: Sony had a software called XperiFirm. It basically allows users to manually pull firmware updates from the servers themselves and pack them into a flashable ftf file. You can also choose which Carrier the firmware update is from. Is there something similar for Samsung devices?
4: Is there a future for our Exynos devices? I've heard that Exynos devices are near impossible to develop on (ROMs, Kernels etc). Is that true?
5: (Optional) When I use the S Health to measure my Heart Rate, it says my current profile is a Male born on January 1, 1980. How do I change it? My age is different on the Samsung account.
6: Are there any problems on the S7 Edge that I should try to avoid?
7: Lastly, if you guys can provide me some advice for this phone, be it to save battery, increase performance or any useful features I should know of, I'd appreciate it.
Sorry if these are repeated questions. Thank you all!
Edit: To add a bit of info, I haven't been active on XDA or reading any article about anything Android lately. Been really busy. So you could consider me a newbie, or a noob. Whatever you want.
Dude.... some reading would of been nice.
1: There is 1000 posts already. Just search
2: Loss in Samsung Pay. Other than that no different from any other device
3: OTA is not possibble to install. You can use Flashfire to install Updates without wiping, Allthough you are required to download the Full Firmware package and not just the Update
4: There is always a future, When Samsung Release the source code properly (AND FULLY) Then it will be possible, If not give it maybe 12 months and you will hear some news.
5: Top left corner in Shealth you can change your profile data
6: Dont put it in water or drop it LOL
7: Never tweaked Battery, Performance and battery life is outstanding on this device.
Dont touch what is not broken
1: You'll have to read on this one but it's easy and quick.
2: Loosing samsung Pay & warranty & straight OTA updates. However OTA updates are plain easy with the great work done with the app flashfire. In my case before samsung pay is used in this country I'll probably switch mobile again and warranty I don't really care, never needed a warranty since nokia gold era.
3: Answered in 1
4: It will take probably too long.. probably you will switch phone before it happens (less than 1 year) However I find the s7 rom pretty stable and low draining. Ofc I had to freeze a lot of apps and do some cleaning but along with greenify it pretty good. I usually would flash a custom ROM, now I just won't bother because they are coming out better (after the cleaning).
5: I don't use.. I use google fit.
6: Nothing that I'm aware of...
7: Out of the box the phone is pretty good. I just freeze the apps I'm sure I don't need them with titanium and use greenify. I get 6h30 screen.. I can say It's more than enough for a regular day for me... way WAY better than any previous samsung galaxy release.
