[INFO] asus needs to provide better support - Eee Pad Transformer General

We need to know the status of when these devices will get upgrades.
At least fix the bugs.

I would recommend changing the 'a' in your name to 'o'

Eh there's info on this forum and on the Anandtech review, an asus rep said they were putting out bug fixes, probably a new dock firmware, changes to android and kernel, changes to myLibrary app, and they said generic tweaks as well.

Ahhh the under-used search function. Rest in peace my dear departed friend, under your mountain of dust.

Next he will want Asustek to announce the exact date they will release the Tegra 9 tablet.

Ah, y'all are being too hard on the guy...
Asus DID sell a dock that more than half of recipients can't even use and haven't made an official statement, let alone provided a date for the fix.
Sure, it's nice they're on the forum but frankly the dock shouldn't have even shipped in the state it's in.
They also released the tablets with varying firmware (including 2.2!), the wrong firmware for certain areas causing Transformers to brick, light bleed problems, dust under the screen issues, creaking issues...
And that was for the people who could find one!
And then they posted on Facebook how much we loved them.
Not a stellar launch!
(P.S. I do like my Transformer. But I want my damn dock fixed ASAP! )

Uh, they did release info about the dock update, but I guess you as well are plagued by the inability to use the search function or google. They have given a timeframe for a new dock firmware, also if you bought the dock thinking there wouldn't be issues, maybe you should have read a review first. Personally I'd rather have a buggy dock than no dock so witholding them completely doesn't really do you any good since then you wouldn't have a dock at all.
The bricking update yeah, they dun goofd on that. But they did give the people affected speedy RMA's and kept in contact with them, even on a seperate forum unaffiliated with Asus.

Really, show me an official link? I've read unofficial postings, but nothing firm.
Also, yeah, sorry that I assumed that Asus wouldn't ship something so broken. I mean, heaven forbid I'd want to USE what I paid for.....

Reading reviews before you buy is difficult I heard. I guess it is if you can't use google like just about 60% of the users on this forum. It was your decision to buy it, and your fault for disregarding the warnings in reviews. No one forced you.

Uh, the reviews I read said that Asus would have the issues sorted out before it was released.
And I guess it's okay with you that it was shipped with this many problems?
You're always sticking up for Asus like everything is perfect. Is that your job? Maybe you should go back to work before your manager at Asus catches you surfing.
I mean, I love my tablet. Just in no way shape or form was this launch done well. And I haven't seen a product shipped as broken as the dock in a long time... It's UNUSABLE right now for many people. (More than HALF if our little poll is accurate.)
I understand where people are coming from with their dissatisfaction. Asus should have NOT SOLD the docks until the issues were fixed, or they had a DAY ONE patch ready.
P.S. Where's that official link?

I don't stick up for Asus about nearly everything, the tablet has designflaws which causes issues for some users which is bad. Some build quality issues, their regular tech support is ****, their advertising is bar none, their update bricked devices.
And I didn't read any review that stated the dock would launch without issues or that Asus had said it would launch without issues. Then again I read a lot of reviews since I get my hands on a lot of tech so I generally know which reviews are accurate.
Also shipping with problems is better to me than not shipping at all. Look at the viewsonic g tab, it launched with a **** stock OS which is unusable and still is. LG has unusable software on 2 of their devices. iPads come with light bleed and wifi issues, Xoom comes without a functioning microSD slot, with a lot of products there are problems at launch, but the important problems are the ones that can't get fixed through software. The fact is if you had read a credible review you would have known the dock was buggy but would get an update in the following weeks of the release.
Also a confirmed Asus rep making a statement is generally enough since Asus reps have generally been pretty forward about updates. Anand also stated an update would be on it's way. But I guess using a search is difficult

Thanks for the well thought out response! And I do use the search...
I just don't count anything on this forum as official.. I consider official as on Asus' pages, or an official press release by them, etc.
Anyway, it's a great piece of hardware for the price! I hope they get everything sorted out quickly. I'd really like to be able to use my dock.

You guys are complaining about the dock while many of us don't even have a chance of touching it!!!
I would rather have it now and wait for the incoming update.

I think Microsoft should now tell us when we can expect a updated skype with video calling ability. How irresponsible of them. right, eh, OP???

[INFO] Asus Support... *sigh*

Well, I need to be honest, I'm not high on Asus's support. Figured I'd share this with the community since it's amusing, but a bit of an eye opener as to what kind of support you will be getting if you contact Asus.
I called Asus today because there is a small wedge between the frame and the tablet (it came like this). It looks like I could probably push it in, but I'd rather not risk breaking it and REALLY be screwed.
The guy asked if it was OK if they reinstalled the software. I asked why and he said in the event this is a software issue, that they would need to re-image the device. So I asked how could a physical defect be caused by software, and he said they sometimes find that issues like this are caused by software.
I can post pictures if necessary, but I was just shocked that Asus would say something as silly as that.
Unless of course... the Transformer literally is a Transformer...
Asus tech support is not the best... I had really bad experience with my graphics card last year. So I just gave up and sold the graphics card on ebay. I hope that I won't have to go through their support on my TF.
Mike
Well contrary to these few unfortunate experiences, I sent my TF into Asus last week on Wednesday, it got to their Support Site in TX (I live in NY) on Friday the 13th. I had the SOD issue that some others are experiencing which was really just a dead backlight. I just checked my RMA status and it said "Repairing" then about an hour later I got an email notification from Asus saying my TF shipped today.
This seems fairly quick turnaround for fixing my TF. Hopefully I get it back without any issues. I'll keep you all updated.

You were probably talking to a front line "tech support" person. Universally these people have standard scripts that they must adhere to. They have to get you're OK on these things because it's on the list not because they acutally think that software could be causing a hardware defect. On the other hand it could be a real transformer and they just haven't told us yet and are waiting unil it has a chance to infect all of our other household electronics and rise up against us.

I used to work in Tech Support when it was more domestically based. I'm familiar with the scripts.
I also had to deal directly with support in India when I worked as a field tech, so I'm well aware. Some companies are better than others. I'm not sure if it's better script writing, better training, or what, but Asus's had to be some of the worst.
Just be prepared for it. I'll be sending mine in 1 week from Tuesday when I return from a business trip / small vacation. I'll let everyone know how well it goes and if my unit comes back "different".

I'm still fighting them trying to get them to provide a shipping label (dust behind screen). Although they ask about the software thing because some people send their unit in password protected.
But yeah, I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back. God damn India.
I'm trying to RMA mine at the moment, for a defective PSU and case creek.
They have asked for pictures of the problem........
I sent them an e-mail almost two weeks ago about some of the problems most of us are experiencing....and I never even got a response lol.

That's better than a paperweight.
I just registered my Transformer online and their site was embarrassing.
It really can't cost that much to have a decent English translator...
I mean, when I finished it said something like "Registration is success!"
Wow, nice.
I know Asus reads these forums. As an Android Platform developer, they seem to be doing the right thing, with 3.1 coming out.
Considering this tablet was originally going to be released with Froyo on it, then upgraded to HC, I had a feeling they'd be down with the updates (yay for 3.1 in June).
If you never have to call support, you'll think Asus was the best company ever!

Goodbye Moto, you suck & I hope we never meet again

I took delivery of my UK Xoom 3G on 2 May 2011 and fell in love with it. I knew it had bugs but I still loved it because love is blind.
I knew updates would come....I had a Google Experience Device so I just knew I wouldn't be left with a crippled device, so I kept on loving it.
Then 3.1 was released in the US. EXCELLENT I thought, in a couple of weeks we in the UK would also be shown some love by the mighty Motorola. It never came.
Other devices came late to the party and were given these mysterious software updates, my friends mocked me and my wife pleaded with me to get an iPad which would show me the same amount of love as I would give it, but I kept faith...I loved my Xoom you see.
Its now June 19th and Motorola have abandoned me, they refuse to talk to me and refuse to love me back, my poor beautifully built Xoom sits there happily force closing at every opportunity and I sit here pondering how my investment so full of promise has become a mere missed opportunity. How sad....Some relationships aren't meant to be and I for one will now be looking for a divorce. Bye Moto, I hope you can live with yourself
Sent from my Motorola Xoom 3G (now on Ebay)
I have a bit the same feelings like you...! I like my xoom really, but it piss me off that the NEW update policy of google only works in US well! Thats unfair, and this is one point why i would go to apple! Yes i have a lot of rules and things what i CANT do but i get allways software updates, for the next 2years / generations. And everyone gets the updates at the same time...!
And to Moto, Motorola should push google to deliver more update or make it like samsung to update apps over the market!!
For me at the moment, it was my first Moto device and the last one, maybee the last android...
I hoped you signed the petition floating around in here!!

I knew you were going to take it that way because that's how people think. I was referring to me overclocking, unlocking and rooting. Having a device that I can play with and not one locked down. Thats what I mean by the user.
Let me ask you this:
Do you have an Android phone?
Let me also add this:
If you would have said that you were going to a Transformer or a HTC View then I would have thought it was the device. Instead you said a iPad which means its the operating system and using the device that you don't like. Maybe your Xoom is defective. Did you try getting it replaced?

Yes I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and its amazing. I also had a Dell Streak 5 and a Galaxy Tab (original) so am very used to the Android OS. I did not say I was getting an Ipad, I said my missus wants me to get one because she feels its the best available 10" finished tablet solution at the moment....
I have considered the Asus Transformer but I need 3G and a 3G version is not available yet. The Galaxy 10.1 is also not yet available in the UK. I do not feel confident rooting and installing custom ROM's and to be honest I shouldn't have to go down this route to get a working product, especially one which cost me £580

Ya it sucks that other country versions of the Xoom suck so bad that is lame. We don't do apple in our house as a matter of fact we don't even speak of it. Also I did not root to fix problems I root so I can overclock and backup my device. So basically you bring that baby home turn it on and its FC city, wow.
If you like your Xoom so much why havent you done what lots of others have done, Root it and Load the US Version, I have to say though its still not perfect.. There are no good Office apps out there so its far from being capable of being used for business. Facebook App force closes quite regularly, the mail app looks a bit mickey mouse and basic. What I wouldnt give for Thunderbird and Open Office on it!!!..
Non-US Xoom is not Google Experience device, thats what I read in many Xoom forum posts. So, thats why you dont get update directly from Google. I read from Moto forums that it will be updated in couple of months.
Granted, thats not good enough. Couple of months is way too long.

If i'd known on the 2nd May that it's wasn't a GED and updates would be this slow, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. I don't think anyone knew at that point!
People keep telling me to root and flash US ROM, but as well as losing my 3g and voiding my warranty, I'm not sure I want to risk it and why should I?

I'd be tempted to mention your dissatisfaction on the Motorola Facebook page too. Perhaps a little naming and shaming will push them a little harder, other than that, it may give other prospective European customers a little insight into the current support situation?
http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope
hey you guys I just popped in here from the transformer forum, I would think that google is not at fault with OTA updates only the state of 3.1 at the moment. my transformer was on 3.0 when it arrived on the first of June, and an update was available straight away. Ordered in the UK and shipped to spain. Same with my desire HD quickly updated to gingerbread. Its a Moto Thing.
Just glad Asus have gone down the same route as HTC, Great design and features just need the bugs in honeycomb ironing out now.
Just done mine this afternoon. Now on 3.1 with SD card support and 3G. Like you say though, shame I had to void my warranty in order to get a working device....
It really is a shame that moto has gone down this route of misleading its customers. I have owned a few android devices over the past 2 years from different manufacturers ; however the Xoom is my first device from moto and will most definitely be the last one from them.
The only reason that the US Xoom has gotten the 3.1 update (which isn't perfect, but addresses many of the 3.0 glitches) is because its backed by Google (GED)
Many many people outside the US have bought the Xoom fully expecting it to be a GED and rightfully so. Seems that once moto got their money the relationship was promptly ended.
I'm not sure if this applies to you, but over here, the Xoom does NOT come with the Google logo on the back.. this seems to be the indicator as to whether or not its a GE.

used to support acer...now?

I just emailed acer to stress to them (as if they care) my upsets. I own an acer netbook that i loved. It was a good product, never caused me any problems that wernt user error. When i saw they had a tablet i didnt even hesitate to buy it. I figured it would be a great product like the experience ive previously had.
When i saw all of the hate threads about the bugs and lack of updates i patiently waited by with faith on acer.
3.2 is around the corner and there is still no "official" 3.1 update for most countries. There are still huge bugs in the open with no official fix. This is my first android device, and im disappointed.
I will most likely be looking for another tablet. One with support from its manufacturer. The support from the community here have been great though, so thank you to everyonewho contributes.
I may hang on to this device a little longer and see what happens but right now im feeling like i made the wrong decision when i bought this.
I dont normally make posts like this but i just felt like saying something.

The 3.1 update is already released in many countries and others will get it in a few weeks. And to be honest, Acer told you that the update will come in late June, early July, so it's pointless to expect it any earlier than that.

This is my first Android device too, and well, I'm actually very happy with it. A few niggles here and there, but those are all Google's doing and they'll exist on all the other Honeycomb tablets, too. One can only hope Google puts some effort into polishing it.
Still, there's no way in hell I'm gonna let go of my tablet.
Unless you can return the device for a refund/exchange I'd say hold onto it until Kal-El is out. That hardware is going to be nice and hopefully Google will have worked on the code side some too.

Kal-El is the Tegra 3 chipset iirc. So not just any one tablet. Although unless Acer changes their bootloader stance I'll go with Asus' the next time around.
Patience is a virtue
wait until 5th july to start be upset.
and you expect what more???
for the price and the quality really!!!! this tablet is far better than some others all things compared... depends what you need.
I bought 2 tablets and 2 phone from ACER the same month. and I am purely satisfied with what I got.
I do not expect perfection at the first release... wait for the A100 or the future Iconia Tablet.... I think that will be something really awesome.
This is not the right attitude to have on xda!
Very few tablets have gotten 3.1 and none of the manufacturers has released it world wide.
Today we got the 3.1 update (unofficial) and the 3.1 kernel.
It is by all means a day of joy and the bootloader barely makes a difference. We got clockwork anyway!

What Bec said -
Had my tablet for two weeks now - used vcache's thread in the dev section to get the most recent OTA upgrade - rooted with modded Gingerbreak - removed bloatware apk's (and backed them up) and spent a couple days learning about the system. Thanks to xda - my tablet is able to pick up on a ad-hoc wi-fi network hotspotted from my cheapo VM Samsung Intercept (25$ USD a month for unlimited 3g - cannot do much better then that) - and I have perfect video playback for watching movies on the go (assuming I take the time to convert those pesky 720/1020 .mkv files to something the a500 can hardware decode).
16 gb internal storage - 32 gb on my microsd - 32 more gb on a USB stick I can plug in - this thing runs like greased lightning! Running the 144.07 official Acer version (as far as I can tell - early releases of 3.1 for this device do not yet support hardware decoding for video - i have been away a few days and this may be outdated).
Again - patience is a virtue. In the meantime - have you made sure you are running the latest OTA version and have you tried rooting your device and trimming away some of the fat? It is literally a 10 min fool proof process - the only thing you need to remember is to keep a safe backup of any system files you remove. Once Acer updates with another OTA version - you simply restore the system files and update. Very simple.

And honeycomb 3.0.1 is not a bad firmware.
My beef is with Acer, maybe I was just expecting to much from them. And maybe they are slow to the gun for good reasons we/I don't know about. I just think as a company who is in direct competition with motorola and Asus they should be more responsive to what's happening around them. But again this is my opinion, and I know you all will have yours,
And I don't have an attitude directed at xda as a couple of you seem to think, xda community has done nothing but provide support and advice when needed. The short time I've been here I've learned a lot from many of you, so thank you. (Excuse my typos, my soft keyboard keeps force closing some reason)

Have you checked out the OTA update thread in the dev section and made sure you are running a updated version? If anything - patching to the latest OTA dramatically improved my browser experience.

Sorry I missed your first post, yes I am running the most recent version

Why is Acer slow releasing 3.1? The Toshiba is looking better every day.

What is the deal with Acer? I have not received an update to address any issue since the purchase. This is quite ridiculous. If there is no release to 3.1 before the end of the month as promised (unless leaked versions are considered releases) I think its time to try a different device, maybe the Toshiba. Or HP Touchpad since Google and the manufactures can't seem to deliver a fully operational product. As a matter of fact I'm frustrated with being a lab rat for Google tablets period, the phones are awsome. Well now that i have released some tension the title of this thread should be changed.

Impatience has never served anyone.
The leaked version clearly isn't a final build, going by a few issues with it; especially on devices in the EU. Ever thought that, just maybe, they're having a few issues localising their mods with the updated codebase of Honeycomb?
Besides which, 3.1 isn't as big a change over 3.0.1 as you might think.
Had Acer and Transformer since day 1. Been very patient.

I guess I would rather have the gps, WiFi, and screen wake issues resloved. Everyone knows you under promise and over deliver. So Acer should say " we will relaease 3.1 in mid to late july" and actually have it pushed out 1st week of July. Therefore beating and meeting customers expectations. If Acer has a fix for their issues then release them. I can understand it may take time to address Honeycomb issues but things like the screen, wifi, and gps should have been addressed. Oh and cell standby should really be a priority.

Though the screen-wake issues should be easy to fix, the gps and wifi issues would probably require mW increases to the radios, which may or may not be possible depending on the chips and if they can be updated via user updated firmware (has Acer even shown these issues as future fixes?).
The N900 had an option to increase the mW of the wifi (did not help much), but is the only device I have seen that had the option in user settings.
I had all the common issues (screen-on, weak wifi and gps), so returned the A500 and will wait for an update that at least fixes the screen-on. Was looking at the Thrive, but am hearing mixed reports about the display (some reports are it is washed out and blurry-like). I am hoping these are minority opinions (or the A500 issues get fixed).

Leave by all means just leave. no sense if your making these posts. Do you believe the CEO of Acer is going to respond. Even on 3.0.1 I has content can u tell me what life chaining features are in 3.1 cause I'm running 3.1 right now and nothing all that breath taking

Bad response. The OP was stating his opinion as a user which is important in these forums. Your response is in the same vain as the iPad fanboys "hear no evil, see no evil, say no evil". If we're talking about looks, the toshiba is one of the uglyest devices I've seen in my life! Such lack of taste and inspiration for design...
Best to get a developer board with 3.1 if you don't care about aesthetics or ergonomics and can't wait for one more week.
Also the screen bug is no bug. It's something you installed. Restore stock and it's gone.
And what wifi issues? Check your settings.
If I were you I'd be more worried about the manual than a minor update.

I'm wondering if the screen-on bug is caused by a particular app i've installed too. The one that comes to mind is tweetdeck since it's constantly checking for feed updates, but I have no idea if there's anything in it
I for one will wait patiently, or possibly not so patiently(j/k) for Acer to release 3.1. I haven't really had any of the issues with the wifi or the sleep/wake issues at all. My wifi signal is always strong and I think my tablet has rebooted once unexpectedly in the time I've had it. As far as GPS goes, I got an OTA update from Acer about 2 weeks into my ownership that seemed to speed up the GPS fix 100%. Overall I'm very happy with it, but do look forward to resizable widgets.
so take charge
Flash your Iconia with one of the many awesome builds of 3.1 out there and make some changes - or have patience and wait for Acer to do what they do.
Even on 3.0 code base my tablet has been wonderful to me - if it's not working for you then perhaps the a500 is not the device for you.
You choose...
Be like Asus and release early, then cover up the mistakes with 80,000 updates.
Be like Acer and release late, vetting the release before making it public.

maybe I will, especially if the the screen wake and cell standby isnt addressed. Just think how much longer the battery would last. I guess what I'm really confused about too is how some people received updates to fix issues, but most didn't? WTF. Updates should be on their website available for download. The tablet is solid and the best as of now, but my gripe is with time it has taken to address issues. Acer is slowly losing traction and needs to improve by showing better support to customers that spent 500 on their device.

That doesn't make any sense since people are using Asus's 3.1 on the Acer and loving it. On the other hand the Asus is cheap with a ton of quality issues.

Or, return the device and a wait
for the OEM to fix the issues.
as far as I'm concerned, all the issues that sock 3.0 had were completely insignificant. I've been getting great wifi reception, and the cell was so simple to fix it's not even worth complaining about.
If you want a 100% purified experience, go get an iPad. If you want something that you'll be able to do what you want with (including fix issues), stay with the A500.

On the contrary, swearing IS free speech, possibly the best expression of free speech..
After all, WHO gets to define what is swearing anyway.
I've been in some forums and got banned for saying "hell" when some moron said I should say " H - E - double hockey-sticks".
Is 'bloody' swearing (it probably IS in USA bible-belt towns), "bugger", etc.
Swear words come and go (I was told I was showing my age because I said "sod").
No one has the right to define 'swearing' for someone else, hence it becomes free speech to swear!.

ICS expected by April now?

According to Acer ANZ's Facebook page, the a500 is now scheduled to get the ICS update by April 2012 as opposed to the former January expectation.
I suppose this is better than not getting it at all
Hopefully, someone will have a fully functioning build sooner than Acer does!
The Facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/AcerANZ
Also, attached a picture of the comment.
I'm guessing ANZ stands for Australia-New Zealand? If so, then the same applies for India too.
If you look again, ACER ANZ have removed their comment. This can only mean 1 thing; that they were wrong/didn't know the actual date.
It will come when it comes. At least Acer is a lot faster than Samsung when it comes to software updates, especially to its "lesser known" devices........
If you are dying to get ICS there is a ROM for it over at tegra owners. Almost everything is working except for the camera. You do so at your own risk though.

Well, I don't know about it only meaning that.. Maybe the guy's boss found out that he spilled the beans and demanded he take it down...
Anyway, we all hope he was full of it and Acer Poland was right with January. But like I said, better April than never.

January would be good,Feb. Is OK, April is along way off. I just hope we get it.Just got a survey from Acerasking how I liked A500, responded that they should make sure that an OTA update to ICS comes soon, said that alot of people on xda developers and other Acer and android sites expect it and will be pi**ed with Acer if it doesn't come soon.I know this would be my last Acer product if it does not happen.

Actually, let me clear up some of the confusion. The February-April ICS date mentioned was ICS estimated release for ACER's new hardware. For example, if you buy an a200 they will tell you to look for ICS starting in February as an OTA.
Again, everyone needs to watch actually what ACER is actually saying. Because they are releasing new hardware (really nice what I saw at CES) with HC, it is nuking up the waters. I stood there at CES and watched a person come up and ask 'when we getting ICS?' and they replied starting in Feb. But, when I asked the salesman, are you saying we're getting ICS on the a500, starting in Feb? The sales person said, no. That this was for these new tablets they're releasing now with HC. But, the person asking had already walked away assuming they were talking about all tablets with HC.
So a lot of people are taking this as ACER saying older equipment will also be getting the ICS OTA. This is not clear, nor has it been clear when we've talked to ACER directly. It really depends on which way the wind blows. They told the 'suits' here that it wasn't then was, and then it wasn't. So, maybe you have to drink more to understand it <lol>.
So, if you want ICS then load a custom ROM that already has it. You can always flash back if and when they release it.

If it takes Acer until April to get ICS to the A500, I'll be buying anything BUT an Acer that is out with Teg3 and ICS.

Dont forget that the a500 didnt ship with a locked bootloader, that was patched in. No guarantee that the teg3 devices will stay unocked.
On another note, are the new acer tablets the same as these, but with teg3? I ask because the only reason I dont run ICS now is because I need the camera. If it isnt figured out by then (it seems more devices are getting it running now) could the camera stuff be taken from the a200or whatever?

You know you're right with the locked bootloader, but I was thinking of a vendor that has a policy not to lock it.
The camera is not the only issue we've had with hardware drivers on ICS. It will depend on what hardware you really need supported and/or matters to you. Some of the tablets at CES with ICS crashed or parts didn't work in some of the demos. No real big issues because they are not yet ready. The vendors that have been working on ICS for a while seem to very stable.

The a 200 does not have a rear facing cam. the a 510 I am not sure. Both have a teg 2 so not much of a upgrade from the a 500. The a 700 I am not sure of because it is still so new.

My current ASUS I like (transformer). I liked the Toshiba Thrive better right up to the last OTA which is when they locked the boot loader (removed fastboot actually).
Samsung Galaxy 10 I have is pretty good too. I'm just sick of fighting locked devices then we find an exploit then they patch it. PUKE. I'm really thinking Windows 8 might be a better solution.

Isn't the rear camera not supported on ICS because no drivers and the one they put on the NEW A200 does? Why only the front, not sure?
Some of the hardware devices that we use on the a500 have no ICS drivers at all and non-planned (official from ACER). However we were assured that on their new line they would have all the hardware drivers for what we need. However, we have to purchase new devices. Reminds me of upgrading Windows just to find out you need to buy a new printer, or the time I had to purchase a new scanner because there were no drivers for my win98 fax/scanner when I went to XP.
So for us, ICS isn't even an option because lack of device drivers on the a500, unless that changes. But for most, maybe it won't matter. But, can you imagine waking up to find ICS downloaded on your a500 and your keyboard doesn't work? Or your mobile card? How about your blood pressure monitor, or diabetes tester? With a locked bootloader how you going fix that, and if you roll back, OTA's still keep a coming unless you can root it.
A mad house I tell you, a mad house. Sometimes I think they think we're trainable monkey's. Take your dirty stinky locked bootloader off my tablet you dang dirty ACER update.
TD
I also think I am done with acer for two reasons. Updates get postponed each and every time and that not very fair for their customers... Maybe they should hire some more programer or I don't know what..... Also the quality of build is terrible. My volume button broke and when i opened the device I saw it was based on two tiny plastic "legs" that could break anyway by hard use; so be careful with it. On the other hand the hardware it is in general good and no any software problems (with custom rom of course). If any other new device come with full USB port then bye bye acer!!!!!!!

Once again, you completely miss the mark. Your lack of reading comprehension is phenomenal or you didn't even read the original post and attachment.
If you read the attachment in the original post, you would see there is absolutely no way to construe it, as even remotely referring, to some future/yet to be released Acer tablets. It was intended for current A500 owners.
IMHO, you really don't have the credibility to "let you clear up some of the confusion". Your "anti ICS upgrade" dogma, is starting to cloud your judgement and apparently your understanding of the English language.
Now, as to why the post was removed, it could be a myriad of things, either "good" or "bad", for those wishing for an upgrade.
