Anyone in the USA have a 10.1v - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Just like the title says. Does anyone have one and if so can you describe ur experience with the carrier AT&T or tmobile service. Reson why iam asking Is that I have an unlimited data sim for 3G modem and I want to put it in a tab.
Also have you compared the size of the 10.1v to a motorola xoom. From what I've read even the 10.1v is smaller than the xoom
Thanks

10.1v has practically the same size as the Xoom. It is "only" 130 g. less heavy. (599 g. versus 730 g.)
10.1 version will be thinner than the 10.1v and Xoom (weight will be almost the same as the 10.1v)

Also the 10.1 battery is slightly higher capacity but it has a 3.2MP rear camera instead of the 8MP on the 10.1v

Considering the 10.1v is exclusive to vodafone, and vodafone don't operate in North America, it would be pretty rare to find the device in the US. You would have to import it, and it probably isn't that attractive to import one when you can get xoom subsidized by a carrier.

Thanks for the responses everyone, but Iam really looking for someone who has it on the service. And what type of data plan they have
Thanks again

NO ONE.
If you want the 10.1V that bad, buy it for full price form Vodafone then buy a SIM card for it so it can operate on US carriers.

Well that's the plan. Thanks for ur input

Any foreign Android devices which will work on ATT 3G network in US?

Hello,
I'm wondering is there are any devices out there which are not produced or label by ATT which will work on ATT 3G network in US (eBay or direct store purchase)?

Any made for Telstra or Telus will work. I have a Hero and a Desire that both work on ATT 3G in the US, just make sure you get the Telstra or Telus version, not the European.

Those appears to be more expensive then Nexus One and or Samsung Captivate available on ATT. I meant some cheap Chinese knock offs or some other off brand offerings you can find on Internet. Android shines here becouse of OSS nature and I thought Internet might offer more changes for other manufactures to create third party offerings. There is already bunch available but they are not working on ATT 3G.

They're more expensive because they're better and rarer. I doubt you'll find any high quality phones for cheap, but if you do let me know because I'd be interested in taking a look at them.
Acer Liquid. I got it because I hated what AT&T offered for Android phones, and couldn't afford a Nexus One. The A1 model can be found in the $300 range, and the E model in the $400 range. Only difference being 256MB of RAM vs 512MB of RAM.

Does it work on ATT 3G?
Negrielectronics.com has plenty of offerings, a lot of them Android, for 850 mhz capable phones. Give it a check here, surely there's something you like!
Yep! Your 3G performance will differ a bit from ROM to ROM, but it works quite nicely.

Unlocked Samsung Omnia 7 In The US?

Anyone using an unlocked Omnia 7 in the US? If so, where did you purchase yours from? Any problems, comments, or concerns?
Bought from Expansys and used in the US for a bout one week on T-mobile.
No problems, worked great.
Bought it from there as well. Used it in Canada, and now in the Middle East. The box came opened though, probably to unlock it.
Beauty of Samsung is that when you boot up it asks what language you want it in. My packaging was French, and so were the manuals, so it was great I got to choose English from the very beginning.
My package was Portuguese, box came sealed but was opened to put an EU to US plug for the transformer which was EU.
Very cool. 3G Data hasn't been a problem for you guys?
I've been trying to find one used, for a resonable price, but they are a bit tough to find.
Anyone else using one in the US? No data problems?
Does the 3G work ok? And how's the data?
I'm thinking of buying this device to use on T-Mobile (USA).

Tested 3G and Edge, both worked great. T-mobile is the only network you can use due to the Omnia 7 EU Frequencies.
Device in general is very good, very robust. Only problem for me is MMS as there is no place for manual MMS configuration andf the Omnia 7 tries getting the configuration based on the SIM card.... Which did not work for me.

I literally just had someone in California pop a T-Mobile SIM into a mint unlocked one and no 3G. I just can't justify spending this kind of cash on an EDGE only device. Way to much disparity in 3G reports across the US. Some places it seems to work, others not. MMS isn't a problem for me, I really need the 3G.
I'm told the build quality is substantially better than the Focus. And the overall feel of the Mobile is quite enjoyable. I'd really love to have a SA display, running WP7, on T-Mobile. This HD7 screen is killing my eye's.
So there's conflicting reports on the 3G then. Some people in the US and Canada have had success with it, others haven't... Hmm... 3G is a must if I'm going to shell $700 on a mobile device.
It's a shame that I'm not entirely satisfied with my HD7.

Nope, there is a 16GB model also. Both me and the wife has one
Costs $565.00 + shipping (and possibly taxes/customs fees when entering the US), but IMO well worth the extra cost compared to the 8GB model currently available on eBay in the US.

Don't have any links, but can hook you up. This is pretty much cost-price from the dealer. Come with a T-Mobile ROM, although un-branded hardware, they are also SIM unlocked.
Sorry, haven't been back yet, so can't comment on how they work in the US, other than having read a lot of people using them with both 3G and HSDPA. Seems to depend on carrier and city.

[Q] Anybody waiting for a GSM Xoom?

Although the majority seems to be waiting for the wifi xoom. I wonder if is just me waiting for the gsm model. I have the galaxy tab unlocked from tmo which I used without any problems recently in Germany. I got my xoom from Costco therefore (90 days return); so the CDMA is no going to make it if you want to use it abroad. I know you can tether but I prefer interchanging chips. Anybody else?

+1 Grand Master Silicon. LOL.
But seriously, yes I'd want a GSM model to be able to put in a SIM card, but only if it had all bands, not just 1900/2100 for T-mobile. I'd like to have it be capable for all bands but we can dream right?
They're already making a GSM Xoom, but its being released in Germany first. We already know the GSM exists its just up to Verizon to decide when to release the grip on Motorola's balls for the US launch.

There's a thread (... or two?) where people have been playing around with turning their devices into GSM devices, some with more success than others. I personally wish it had been released with GSM/UMTS (provided it's unlocked and quad-band) as I travel a fair amount to GSM countries and it'd be nice to buy a local SIM and use my Xoom there, too. If such a device is released for the US market I'll probably get one, if there's a large enough gap between that one and the Xoom 2 (or maybe that'll be the one they release as GSM?)
The hardware does appear to be there in the CDMA VZ version (the same chip is used for both, but based on what one hacker has done, there's apparently some minor remaining issues with the baseband code).
Just get an MZ601? They're quadband, and everything.

European 3G version available in Germany

European 3G version seems to be available in Germany and I'm thinking about ordering one... But I have some question before i order. I understand that the European 3G version comes with Touchwiz, is there a ROM without Touchwiz available for it? I have searched and read all the threads in development section but there is no mention about European 3G version.
Also i haven't seen any posts from European 3G owners. Why is that?

I'm also looking for the same, but for reasons unknown to me there are no custom roms for the P7500, yet. Afaik, you could try to flash a P7510 rom, but you will loose 3g. My best guess is that the 3g roms will come when more users have bought them.

I like Xoom because it's pure Honeycomb, so I'm afraid I'm not going to like Touchwiz (white menus and gray bottom bar). Xoom 3.2 has been ported to Iconia A500, so i'm hoping it will be possible to port it to GT10.1 also...

Thank you

Sorry, no SD card slot for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 (3G and Wifi), at least not for the model no. GT-P7500 or P7510. There are a few site still advertising the SD card slot but the Tabs are all missing that slot.
hmm the more i read about all those issues, the more i might just get an motorola xoom to have stock android...
1. it's not sure whether the I/O tab will keep getting stock android updates or not
2. i don't know if i will be able to flash stock i/o android on a german 3g galaxy tab
My only problem is that the xoom is just to heavy, especially since im going to read a lot of news/rss feeds on the tab, so having a light tab is very important...
Can anyone who bought the Galaxy Tab in Germany confirm if the language can be changed to English? Those HoneyComb tablets like the Transformer and Iconia i see in Saturn and MediaMarkt only have German.

I'm sorry to say this, but if you want a 3G tabled then don't buy a Xoom. European Xoom's are not GED, so they don't get updates from Google. As far as i know, the European Xoom's still run 3.0.1.
If 3G isn't important to you, then you can buy a WIFI only Xoom and flash US software on it to make it GED.
I need a tablet with 3G connectivity, that's why i ordered a GT10.1

As far as i know, only US Xoom's are Google Experience Devices. It is possible to flash European WIFI only Xoom with official US Xoom software to make it GED. It's not possible with 3G Xoom because of different radios in EU and US versions. But there is a custom 3.2 ROM that reportedly works also on European 3G Xoom's, so thats a option.
About WIFI only GT10.1, as far as i know, even the IO version is not GED. If it was, then it would already have Android 3.2.
I See, so flashing the us Rom on a European xoom with 3g wouldn't work at all?
I wouldn't care if I lose the 3G, but since I can get the 3g version for the price of the regular WiFi only xoom, I might still get the 3G one (so I can sell it for more later).

I'm not sure if it's possible to flash the official US 3G ROM on European 3G Xoom, i believe i have read that it will mess up the radio firmware.
But like i said, there is a custom 3.2 ROM available that works on European 3G Xoom.
Check Xoom development forums. Here it is a little off topic i think.

True... For now... At least until manufacturers start making unlocked multi-band LTE devices.
Besides, with LTE not being unlimited, it's kinda pointless at this stage. Let the technology (and rate plans) mature a bit more first.
If you must really have the LTE then I would wait for either Verizon or ATT version. But remember you wont have phone capabilities with the Verizon or ATT version.
I am using ATT Go Phone Prepaid on my 7.7. I am in NY and the data speeds are actually pretty fast. I average about 4-6mbps download speeds. Web pages load very fast. For me its good enough.
Yeah, while LTE speeds are amazing, at present I don't have a whole lot of use for them on a tablet. I suppose one should really determine if they need to use it for video streaming/conferencing where there is no WiFi. Otherwise, 3G suffices for most casual use.
The US could actually do with a bit more oversight and regulation in this area so we could use LTE without having to worry about asinine limitations.

I bought my original Tab from AT&T but didn't buy the subsidized version...
Anyway although I understand it has downsides since the IMEI is in the database of the carrier (Yeah it costed me my unlimited plan last year...) t doesn't create that many problems after a bit of clean-up (I use a derivative of CM7.2 (Boca) and also unlocked the device)
Anyway go for he international if you wish, on my side I would really like to have the IR port (No saying the AT&T version will have it but oping for it). And if you want to enjoy LTE speeds just forget about the international version
Anyway... waiting for more versions to be out worldwide in order to pick the best one for me

Verizon no thanks... I travel extensively outside the US and want to be able to use my Tab abroad
For the AT&T version I don't know if it will have voice enabled or not. That's why I am asking i anybody has any news about it. I am curious to see if it has voice enabled or the IR port. Just remember the initial Tab on AT&T was not offciially voice capable but this was fixed quite easily...
Again I am more into checking my options than purchasing anything. My original Tab is actually pretty fast and if my battery life was not getting more and more scarce I would probably wait a while before buying anything new

I can just about guarantee that the AT&T version will NOT be voice enabled. Read my article linked in the previous posts, and you'll understand why.
Buy the international/unlocked 7.7, especially if you travel a lot, and don't look back.
P.S. Don't forget to make sure that AT&T gets a good look at your proud middle finger!

What is for sure is about products that are already out... So what is 100% sure is your international version won't have the IR port. Period. And this is a function I really want to have
For the AT&T version although I believe it is likely it won't have voice enabled, let's wait and see. I am not in a hurry since anyway there is so far no custom ROM for the Tab 7.7. Besides it is quite possible the AT&T will be able to get voice capability
Ideally I'd like voice + IR while I can do without LTE (Even though living in NYC and travelling often to Japan, LTE is actually an interesting option)
Anyway hopefully we will see more and more versions out here and some countries may have it all. If not then I'll pick what seems the best compromise for me
I was just looking at these they negri electronics for the price of a 3g/wifi version for voice usage. If the 7 plus had the same screen and ran 3g if be interested but I'll take the 7.7 with no issue. Anyone know the cheapest place to get one. Negri was at $678 if I remember correctly.

Does anyone know how much the Verizon version will cost at subsidized prices? I mean if it's going to be like the zoom ($499 - $599) when it was first release, might as well get the international version since price won't be that much different.
By the way Jade Eyed Wolf, were you able to sell your Galaxy Note? I have mine and love it but also want the galaxy tab 7.7... my wife is going to kill me if I keep both... it's going to be like $1400 for both devices... I'm trying to sell all my tablets so that I can afford it though.

I still have my Note at this time. I haven't yet put it up on eBay. I'm debating on whether or not I want to hang onto it until it get's official ICS and see what it's like then. Depending on that experience, it's either my Note or my GS2 that goes. Both are in perfect condition though!

Buying a (more expensive) international version doesn't guarantee you'll manage to go unnoticed by these $$$ suckers...

I just posted my thoughts on the IR port over in the general thread. You should have a read.

Yeah I read that... Bad news indeed if this universally applies. However, I haven't personally experienced any issues apart from being notified that I'm among the top 5% of data users and that I may get throttled blah blah blah. So we'll see...
