Google I/O - New Version of Honeycomb?? What would you like to see? - Xoom General

So my big hope for this year's Google I/O is an update to Honeycomb. What do you think will be in it, and what do you wish would be in it?

I presume there will be no update to honeycomb, instead the launch of icecream sandwich? Fingers crossed. It would make sense then that they keep us waiting as they're ironing out the bugs in a phone compatible, cross device format os

support for linux via usb
sd card (of course)
market display in portrait (also when browsing the apps, when you go back the listing, it picks up where you left off)
better 720p video support
i'd be happy with this

Although, re your question I would like to see some reputable software houses getting behind android tablet with some more honeycomb optimized releases. Looks like io has a strong contingient of Google partners showing how they've worked with the platform

If they launched ICS and posted it to AOSP, I would be a happy camper. CM8, anyone??

A functional microSD card slot would be nice without hacking/rooting.

On the PDF of all the scheduled events they have a Honeycomb segment so I can only assume we'll get some love.

Bluetooth mouse support(!!!), full browser (not this mobile nonsense), Full-screen support for smartphone apps (just stretch it, that would be fine), and software like iTunes for synchronizing music and video.

This will last only until next power off/on. then it forgets. Needs a fix, in Dolphin it stays.

That's only in debug mode, and if you close it and reopen it's back to mobile. It's a simple fix to add the option to the normal settings and make it permanent. I think they've made it difficult to encourage webdesigners to design for android tablets.

Well, ive done it once. 4 weeks ago, and to this day, with a few reboots it has stayed in desktop mode... works for me.. Xoom Wifi

- SD support
- Post comments in market
- Configurable UA-String in browser
- Better bookmark managing in browser (sort, folder handling etc.)
- Chrome plugins in default browser (I want an ad blocker for stock browser!! )
- Better IMAP support in email app (its always syncing out new mails and keeping old ones automatically, after manual sync it works correctly).

He doesn't mean that the "update now" control has anything to do with the functionality in question, he means the icon below it on the Manila menu bar.
But HTC confirmed this on their site a while ago, on the first page of the Touch HD so it's no mystery:
"The newly added Stock tab keeps you informed of the latest stock quotes, while the connected Home screen puts e-mail, messages and calendar only a finger-stroke away."

My bad. Yes, that does look like a stock info application.
They might as well just skip the subtleties and create a complete Blackberry Bold / IPhone hybrid They're not quite far away from such a blend with the Diamond

The HD blends a lot of Blackberry functionality (corporate capabilities) with multimedia appeal. I do hope that the HD will have better audio quality than the Diamond though, since I was not impressed by that.
The fact that it has a 3.5" socket would make it a good MP3 player if they upped the quality a bit.

Android 2.2 Wish list

With android 2.2 around the corner, what additional features do people want in the new OS. My obvious concern is that with the iPhone 4G around the corner our community really need to pull out the stops...
I recently blogged about it ( http://www.adriancantrill.me/blog/2010/05/android-2-2-wish-list-making-the-platform-competitive/ ) but i'd appreciate peoples thoughts on what SHOULD be in 2.2 and what NEEDS to be in 2.2
Seems there will be a kindle app soon enough - thats one step towards more mainstream support.

720p video recording? With the added horsepower and 5mp camera technically covering all the pixels for it (maybe even up to 1080p), I can't see why not.
Native file browser and ability to save email attachments to sd card. Why didn't android 1.0 have such basic functionality?

I just want way louder ringtones!
And proper sound recording with video camera
Improvements/fixes.
Proper audio EQ

Ability to send as different user within Gmail.
Edit quoted text Gmail.
Allow further attachment handling in Gmail both send and rcv.
Fix FB integration with name priorities.
MUCH larger HQ caller ID pictures.
An "exclude from Gallery/Music" option to directories that doesnt just .hide but actually skips over for those apps but allows other apps to continue using those media files.
Folders in App drawer.
Custom icons for folders on home screens.
Better search in market
multi-select in app updater.
Long press to start copy paste function in browser.

Basically every damn customizable feature of Handcent in default SMS.

Is there an app to put power control widget in notification pulldown?

That would be sweet. Pretty much the only feature of my long gone jailbroken I*phone (sbsettings) that I miss was activating that screen with a swipe without exiting the focused application. It must be possible in android. Any info?
Quicksettings?
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
There is an app in the market called "Quick Settings" which can be placed in the Ongoing notification dropdown that is customizable to include everything on the power control widget and more.
I am a fan of "power strip", a great paid app.
Quick Settings is really nice. Thanks y'all.
FYI, I've also used NOTIFi by Sisedi Media. It's skinnable and has a polished look that's a little different from the normal android UI.
Try QuickDesk Beta. It's a single extra homescreen that you access by double tapping the home button. Can put any widgets or shortcuts that you can put on your home screen. That way, all you have to do is double tap your home button, use the power strip, then hit back to get out of QuickDesk Beta and you'll be back in your original app.
The MIUI ROM has this as a fixed element at the bottom of the drop down.

The amount of times i've wished I didn't have to return to Home Screen to toggle GPS / WIFI etc - this is the absolute perfect solution. If it had customisable entries where we could launch a task switcher - WIN WIN!
+1 hopefully.
Perhaps this thread should be moved to Andoid General for greater visibility?
Steve.
theres an app thats called "in app toggle wifi" or something where you just have to hold the search softkey for a couple of seconds. even better in that it is hidden.
A good alternative is quickdesk by ruqqq, I've set it to bring up its "screen" on home double tap.
quickdesk is awesome. Not only can use power control but any app that you want without leaving any application. love it
Just noticed that the galaxy tab has this too.

[APP] ★ SC2 Stats ★ Starcraft 2 Profile viewer [v0.0.9 alpha]

What is it?
This is an android app to view your Starcraft 2 Battle.Net player profile and ladder information. The differentiating features compared to existing apps will be a cleaner interface, faster loading times (all data is prepared externally before downloading), more player details and better organization of information.
How to help test
If you're a SC2 player, then you can try loading up your player profile and see how it works. If not, you can press Menu -> Debug Players on the Favorite Players screen to load up a selection of players automatically. Report bugs in this thread with a detailed description of what you were doing and what went wrong. Also feel free to suggest additional features.
** DOWNLOAD **
SC2 Stats on the Android Market
Currently the project should be considered to be in an alpha state-- so expect limited features and bugs.
Current features
Add players via battle.net ID + player name (from web URL) in all Regions
View the top ladder/league/rank for each team size (1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4)
Display ladder standings (all ranks) for a specific division
Future features (sorted roughly by highest priority first)
Display all of a players ladders/leagues (not just top per category)
Display other misc stats from player profile
Display match history
Skin UI with sexy SC2 blueness instead of boring flat gray/black
Display masters league (when it becomes visible)
Externalize strings for localizing (translating)
Allow for auto-update of player stats in background
Customizable notifications (matches, rank change, league change, etc)
Homescreen widget to display rank
Display achievements
Known Issues
Can only select first listed player when clicking a team in the ladder view
Currently cannot add players in the China region
Sorta crappy handling of bad input when adding a player

Do play SC2, looks like a cool app. I guess match history and pro-game updates (GSL scores etc.) would be additions i'd be interested in.
Sounds awesome, I cant want to try it out. The ability for alerts seem like something that should also be in the pro version. What kind of price are you think about?

Match history would be an eventually feature, and pro-game updates is a really good idea. I'd just have to find a good SC2 esport site with a decent/parseable news feed.

Yah alerts was another features I was thinking about keeping for pro for sure, and for price, something minimal like $.99 or $1.50 USD
Still hoping to get an early alpha release out to you guys really soon
After letting this project collect dust for a few months, I decided to get back on it.
The OP now contains a direct-download link for an alpha APK.. so if you like SC2 or just want to help me test things out, give the OP a read and post any suggestions/bugs/etc here.
Now available on the Android Market for alpha testing.

Time Tracker for Android
I had pretty cool app for WM6.
Here is source code for Visual Studio 2008:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1228109/TimeControl.rar
Writen by covr from 4pda.ru
He has not much time.
Can you port it to Android?
His description:
Wrote program that keeps track of time spent by pressing a single button - Start / Stop.
The task's name, then it will remain in the standard calendar PocketOutlook with the category "Completed tasks".
Duration of the task is reflected in the calendar, and equal to the period between pressing the "Start" and "Stop".
The program remembers the time you press the "Start", so you can safely close and even soft-reset to make devices. The next time you start the program automatically remembers the last start time. The program is free.
How about an app that intercepts the GPS data being passed through to another app and replaces it with pre-configured data.

There are a growing number of apps that use your GPS to work out whether or not you can use their service. ITV Player for example doesn't work outside the UK, based on your last known/current GPS location.
I know there are a number of apps that can spoof your location, these require "Allow Mock Location" to be enabled and again some apps do not work if this is enabled.
