[Q] how do you know if you install the OC kernel correctly? - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not sure how to tell if I installed the OC kernel on CM7 correctly. Is there something I can look for in settings?

Assuming that you're running CM7 you can go into; setting/about tablet and see what is listed for the kernel.

If you are wanting to see what your CPU is running, try the Temp+CPU V2 app. It's free and runs as a desktop widget.

Assuming you're installing on stock CM7, easiest way to tell, go into Settings > CM Settings > Performance > CPU and if you can choose 1.1Ghz (or 1.3Ghz) max cpu, than you know you got it installed properly.

Epic Experience 1.2.07a rooted apps NO

I flash Epic Experience - Version 1.2.07a and all the rooted apps like titanium
backup and wifitether etc they are reporting that need root, help please.

Sounds like you didn't flash a Kernel with root enabled.
I didn't do any kernel but Experience working good with all other apps.
Do I need to restore data and cashe from clockworkmod.
dito33
You need a KERNEL with ROOT enabled otherwise applications that require ROOT do not work.
Go back to the Epic Experience page and read the Special Notes on the first post.

Yeah I see that now that I need kernel, do you have any suggestion what kernel
should I use, all I need is wifi tether to work and later would try cpu tweak.

Xtreme Kernel! I don't just recommend it, SchizoPunk (of Epic Experience) does as well.
Thanks guys I already slap the SyndicateROM and so far working good with
built in wifi tethering also working and all the rooted apps.
Since this is the full ver. I am looking to tweak the cpu supposed to be built in
just can't figure out how to do that part I don't see it.

If you wish to OC, search XDA for SetCPU and download it (it's $2 in the Market).
I got it with setcpu, thanks on respond.

Titanium Backup is free or paid and lets you back up your programs and unistall the factory ones i f you want.
Root explorer lets you see and modify the system files and is free.
SetCPU is a paid app but lets you overclock or underclock. You have to have a kernel or Rom that will allow changing the CPU frequency though.

how to use stecpu on my MT4G

i have MT4G running gingerbread 2.3.4 and i install setcpu 2.0.4 but i really new with this and i dont know how to set up and i dont want to mess my phone ,sorry because probably is a stupid question but like i said im new with this! thanks!
Choose governor
Clock speeds you want
Set on boot
Apply
And that's all you should need, you can setup, profiles too.

That's also a very old version. Upgrade to the latest which is 2.2.4 at this point.
One thing to note, certain custom ROMs (like CyanogenMod 7) already have a way for you to adjust CPU settings. If your ROM has this already, use that instead of using SetCPU.
Just to make sure that we asked, is your phone rooted? And if so, what rom did you flash? Pretty safe bet if your unsure is to just run at 1k until you find out all info.

What ROM are you using? Stock 2.1, 1.6? On stock roms you need to modify the kernel to enable overclocking with this tool http://www.4shared.com/file/IW2zYhM1/overclock__2_.html (only on stock 2.1) After that you can use the SetCpu tool to adjust the frequency.
If the problem is that the phone freezes after setting the freq to 852mhz, then it's the phone's fault - the processor drops the frequency and restarts (don't forget to untick the SetOnBoot option in CM Options if you use a high value, otherwise the phone will be restarted with the same high freq). Mine freezes too @852, i use it on 710mhz and runs smooth

well max clock speed is different from phone to phone mine is 880MHz and some others can only go to about 700MHz-<800 MHz (different silicone quality, guess im lucky )
Also depends on other configurations and the ROM itself
bozont91, I'm using stock 2.1 V20A, without fastboot, recovery and changed kernel. How to use it ? Will this work for me ?
well u must have recovery to do this X(

No, you only need fastboot to flash a boot.img with overclock support

So I need flash ROM with fastboot. I have too many apps and games, maybe another time. Is there any other way to "add" a recovery to stock 2.1 without FB ?

use "mybackup root" to backup ur games and its data. as for recovery i dont think so.... my friend has a x8 and it only needs them to put a file in their system to have recovery.........

Check if u have any other app which sets the cpu. Or maybe power safe mode enabled?
I had this issue running synapse and set cpu.
Power Saver Enabled. Check it out.
no, i checked and save mode is off and i don't have any other app which controls my cpu i think. i deleted rom toolbox pro and still was changing, now i'm on stock kernel and i don't know yet if it still touches my settings or not. i was using lean kernel 2.5.1 anyway, now stock nd6

i flashed stock kernel and as far as now it's working. i will try testing GTA:SA again if it changes and how is it working too
okay, so the problem is here again... unfortunately. i'm gonna flash new rom again, stock deodexed like in my signature but i don't know if it is worth flashing custom kernels or just stay on stock.

Do what u prefer. The CPU lock should not be from custom kernel. I tried most of the kernels especially lk. Can u put all root related apps in one window and make a screen shot?
Edit. Rom flash does not necessarily get rid of the issue when restoring I had and sometimes still have the CPU lock when playing around with kernels and settings.
