[Q] No NODO on replacement AT&T focus - Focus General

I just had to replace my phone with AT&T because of some problems. The replacement came with the original firmware. As soon as I plugged into the PC it found and installed the Feb update and all is well. But it won't pick up NODO or the Samsung update.
I thought it may just be time, but its been a couple of days and no luck.
Anyone know how to make this thing get the updates?
Thanks

I just read an article that Samsung Focus rev 1.4 isn't seeing the update. Not sure why. Apparently, earlier versions (mine's 1.3) are unaffected. Check under the battery and see what revision you have.

The replacement is 1.3, same as my original.

use the windows phone recovery tool that is provided by microsoft. There is directions how to use the update tool on the site. Make sure zune updates are up to date, and make sure you give the recovery tool time to finish...it will look like its stuck but it is still working. after that the nodo update will show up.

Thanks, never heard of it. I'll see if I can find the instructions.

Well, found the tool ran and updated. It took about a minutes and rebooted the phone. Says the update is complete and version is still 7008.
Weird

Now you should be able to update through zune, nodo should show up through zune. Have you updated your zune as well?

AT&T is telling me its a known problem and that I may need to replace it. If that's the case, this would be my 4th Focus.
I'm patient, but 4 devices seems crazy in a few months. Wonder if they'd let me swap to a different device?

Zune says its up to date. I did try updating via Zune, but no go.

i'd insist on a new phone since you've exhausted all venues.

Wonder if they'd sent me an Atrix? That might be worth the trouble. Somehow I doubt it.

Gotta love this. After spending days trying to get this thing to update. I talked with AT&T and Samsung. They tell me that the replacement device they sent me was bad and send me a new one.
Today I get the replacement for my replacement. I plug in my phone to sync one last time before switching and of course it says update found and now its installing NODO.
Well isn't that special.

OTA update on G2 Touch (youtube player)

hey guys, i have the G2 Touch running firmware build 2.73.111.26 CL#69351 on T-Mobile Germany.
today, i got the message that a firmware update is available, that mainly affects the youtube player. it was 3,6 MB large.
i clicked on "download" and afterwards on "install now" and then my phone rebooted. after reboot, first i saw the T-Mobile boot screen, then it booted into recovery mode.
in the beginning, there was a status bar moving (but with no status, just some movement, if you know what i mean) and then the status bar vanished. as it stayed like this without any change for about 10 minutes, i removed the battery and inserted it again, then i booted the phone like always.
but now i don't have the update and can't download it again. is there any way to get that update again?
thanks in advance for your help.
ok, i did a full factory reset to get the update again, that worked very good.
i got the update notification again, and tried installing it again.
download works, after clicking on "install now" the phone reboots and starts in recovery mode.
there is the status bar, and it is working until it is about half filled.
then the icon changes, i suddenly have an explanation mark on the screen, the status bar has vanished.
then nothing happens.
why doesn't it work? what can I do?
try pressing back or menu?
no key works.
for some reason, since the first factory reset, my pc's adb doesn't recognize the phone any more, so i can't see the url of the update. but the update window shows the filename, it is "OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip" if that is helpful for somebody^^
also i called T-Mobile support a few minutes ago, and they said there was no update at all since the 2.73.111.26 that was published in november.
any idea, anybody?
and for the record, the following link works to get the update:
http://liveimage.htc.com/OTA_Hero_T-Mobile_DE_2.73.111.91-2.73.111.26_R_release5pon5e4vkwhssvb1.zip
can anybody help?
Most likely an update to the Youtube player that allows High Quality streams. All the newer builds (3.XXXXXXXX) have this new version, if you can live without, than it's nothing major.
I experienced the same: OTA Update announcement - something about "YouTube Player" blah - after installation, my hero was frozen.
Back & Menu brought me into the maintenance menu: Reboot without upgrade-activation brought back my old hero. No changes done.
Very quick (~1h later) "first level e-mail support" from t-mobile: No OTA-updates possible on G2 Touch (...harhar), pointed me to website with old firmware update.
I asked them to contact second level technical support - as it was definetly an OTA firmware-update and I already have installed the older firmware-update: Answer pending, since yesterday afternoon.
I hope, this was no hacker-intrusion attempt. T-Mobile not being informaed about an OTA firmware-update by whoever, does not really fill me with confidence. Would be a nice little hack, if some illformed hacker found out a way to pretend an firmware update OTA and used the willingness of all hero owners to take even a small step towards Android 2.1 wonderland...
.g.
No, it's really no hacking attempt. The update is on HTC servers, that's why T-Mobile support doesn't know it. Will contact HTC support today.
ok, I just called HTC.
the guy who could hardly speak german but tried very much told me, that they knew of the problem, as I am not the only one with it.
he recommended to perform a full factory reset, then try again.
as I told him that I already had done this several times, he told me I had to send the phone in via T-Mobile, so they can fix this.
considering the fact that this is a very minor update and that I need my phone, I now decided to wait some more weeks till the 2.1 update will (hopefully) arrive.
maybe the 2.1 update will work, if not I still can send it in. also, the update may be available to install via usb from PC, so it might work better.
so it's waiting for 2.1 again
Hi,
In the Netherlands we got this update too. It fixes youtube and enables the phone to get Android 2.1 OTA, which will be available in a week or two.
The original HTC Hero firmware checks for updates every two weeks. Maybe the next trick will be helping you to force download the update (it worked for me to force the update):
Set the device's date a year in the future (for example 15 june 2011). Go back to home screen and probably the update wil appear in your screen.
Let us know if it worked for you..
It worked for me. As soon as I changed the date I received the update.
Thanks for the solution.
Is it just me thats wondering why.. if they are going to release a 2.1 update soon... are they packaging in an update for youtube in this ota?

I guess more people where complaining about the broken Youtube player than about the 2.1 update (at least it was more visible for our customers). Having this fixed and declared on the support site makes life easier for customer support...it is stupid I know, but the average user is that dump.

Sure.. but how many months to wait now.. otherwise why update youtube at all?
Rumours are saying that it's coming the 18th and I think that pretty believable because we have got that update today...
And I don't know anything about youtube update ^^ maybe they wanted to give us something instead of an empty update ^^
Yeah, it makes perfect sense.
There was no "System updates ..." item in the phone status, before this update. I don't see why HTC would update the FOTA client if they didn't actually plan on sending us the 2.1 update soon. Probably takes a few days though.
Be patient
Hi,
I did the clock tip and got immediatly the update message. Download and installation went fine. Rebooting took about 10 minutes, so be patient and let the update do its work.

Installing stock HTC RUU over T-Mobile RUU?

So, in the effort to get the damn updates when they're released by HTC instead of waiting for T-Mobile to finally get themselves moving and push the update out, would it be possible to install the stock, unbranded HTC Hero RUU from off the HTC website onto my T-Mobile branded Hero?
I did have my phone rooted, but my phone was acting weird with some of the custom ROMs so I installed the RUU from T-Mobile's site. Now I see that the unbranded ROMs are getting an update and I want in on this.
Would it be possible, or is there something that'll block it in the phone?
well, at least in germany we on t-mobile got that update 1 day before the unbranded users did. try setting your phone's clock to more than 2 weeks in the future, you may suddenly have a new update
I've tried setting my phone's date to 2011, August 2010 and some pretty far off date where I just scrolled the year wheel, saved and gone back to the home screen and left it for about 5 minutes each time and I've still got no update.
Well, that doesn't surprise me. I forgot that today I couldn't get the update any more either. As you can see in the other thread, I couldn't install it when it was there. Maybe the package was defective and they took it off for repair. Just a guess though
Still waiting on HTC to answer my support request...

[Q] Downgrade?

Did anyone else get an update pushed that downgraded you from JI6 to JFD (stock)? This morning when I woke up I noticed an update alert from T-Mobile just like I received for the JI6 update. However, when it finishes and I am rebooted, I am back to JFD. What gives? Has anyone else seen this?
Sorry, I didn't see the question a few posts down about this issue. Seems to be what happened to me.
There are couple of other posts on here that report the same thing happening. Not sure what is going on though. Seems like Tmo run amuck.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I too have the update waiting in the notification bar, it's been connecting to the DM servers for the past 20 minutes. I don't want it if it's going to revert me back. Tmobile had no idea what I'm talking about...so what do we do? Keep hitting postpone?! Thank!
Could be....prepared to get flamed....an update configuration the phone needs to update to .....can't say it....ugh, froyo. Ok getting prepared..fire away.
sent from the other side of my galaxy.
I can confirm the "rumor". I recently contacted support (T-Mobile) regarding an update performed via KIES. After getting them to send out a replacement, I discovered the "update" this morning. One thing to note, the "replacement" arrived with JI6 installed. After installing the "update" I found the following changes to indicate a downgrade.
1. Applications removed/changed. Media Hub (changed), HD Video Camera (removed), & Task Manager(removed). There are probably others but for lack of better phrase, it appears they restored the device to the factory version that the devices came with.
2. About Phone, Baseband and Firmware version changed. Baseband is now T959UVJFD & Firmware is 2.1-update1
So at this point I am one of the more disgruntled T-Mobile customers, since prior to getting my replacement, I was informed there was NO WAY they could downgrade my device, to the factory shipped SW version. I will be making a call to Support and demanding why they have untrained staff, because obviously they would have told their CS staff about this pending 'downgrade'.
Downgrade Confirmed!
I don't know how I'm going to get rid of this update pending in my notification bar. Is my only option to install it?

WP7 small update coming now, more to follow...

Just saw this link on Facebook. Thought I would share here...

From what I remember about the update scheduling, MS can push updates past carrier certification if the carrier delays until the next update is ready. I would love to see MS use these little micro-updates to game that system. Anything that helps to reduce AT&T's interference in the use of its own network is fine by me.

That would be pretty tricky, but I would think MS would at least hold off until carriers have shown a pattern of delays.
the only problem is that it isn't really an update. It's an update to help out the future updates. Wtf is microsoft doing? This OS is developing slowly, and their communication is horrible. I feel like I'm going to want a new phone by the time this mythical update shows up (that hopefully corrects all the flaws)
Focus
Everyone with a Focus should read the thread in the Windows Phone Forum very carefully and take a wait and see attitude before updating. Not looking good for the Omnia 7 and starting to look bad for the Focus.
Samsung owners claim Windows Phone 7 update has bricked their devices.
I personally had a Samsung Intrepid v6.5 that after an update, it became a brick. There was NO way for me to go back to the previous version either.
Anyone got the update?
Has anyone got the update yet or a notification of it? I checked my wifes phone and it said no update through the phone or zune. It's completely stock (except the memory) so I'm hoping it won't have any problems.
Edit - Nevermind. I guess it's staged over some time. It also shows her having the firmware that is having so many problems so maybe waiting isn't a bad idea.
Version #
How do you know if you recived the update? I hook up my phone yesterday, and it started synching stuff that has been on my phone for months. The items were never changed since I installed on my phone. I check in the Zune software and it says I'm up to date. Do you get a message that says, "Hey stupid, here's an update"? MS doesn't seem to clear and what is supposed to happen. Do you get a text, or a number in your Marketplace tile, or what?
My firmware version ends in JJ1 for PDA, Phone and CSC.
I got that from dialing *#1234# from the diagnostic app.
I have not seen the notice for the update yet.
Anyone else with a Focus seen the update yet?
Let down in wireless promises
I'm am so let down with Carriers & Manufacturers promising updates! I had the Captivate when it came out, and was happy with the expection of 2.2 Froyo being released. As I was waiting I rooted the phone and ran a developers version of 2.2, which was great. In Jan I decided to swap for the Focus because it was just a simplier phone to use. I noticed on the MS website it even notated an expected release of an update in Jan.
All in all, when you buy a phone I would recommend not giving into the impulse of buying it just because they say updates are coming, especially with Samsung. I do love both phones, but this is just terrible. Seems like technology has gotten to the point that if what you have isn't ready NOW, then it's already old news and updates are just a fantasy.
For gods sake, now there's the new 4G HTC Inspire running Froyo promising Gingerbread.
Actually, the only thing I wish I could do on the Focus was watch youtube videos in high quality using 3G... Hahaha... I guess making ring tones too, but that's it!

Just tried it. I don't see anything saying firmware. The first three all have JJ1. I've been checking plenty of WP sites. I haven't seen anyone on ATT get an update.
AT&T NOT holding back update
I had to speak to the Technical Support area of the AT&T Warranty Center today. All of a sudden, after 2 months, the battery icon at the top of the page ehibited the following symptoms:
. Blinks on and off, sometimes with the "plug" showing on the battery icon even though the phone is not on the charger. Blinks about once every 2 seconds.
. "Beeps" everytime it blinks.
. Screen will not turn off because this icon is blinking.
I was told that Technical Support had a meeting yesterday and that this is a know issue with WP7 by Microsoft and that the upcoming late February/early March update will contain a fix for this issue.
I asked why I had not recived an update notification and whether AT&T was holding up this update. The TS person said absolutely not, especially since this update will contain bug fixes that affect currently released phone models. AT&T is not holding back the update.
This person also told me that the issue is suspected to be caused by a virus that enters the phone when browsing the Internet and that warranty does not cover viruses. Well, that set me off. Their phone, their OS, their browser. I'll address this to be sure.
But, the update is coming, contains fixes, and AT&T is NOT holding it back.

No, not a chance. I already contacted the store manager who I purchased the phone from and he has guaranteed a warranty replacement. I am still going to wait for the update to see if what the ST&T TS person was speaking the truth. If I have to, I'll take the SIM out and put it back in my FUZE running 6.5.x.
I received my updated today ! Window poped up and said there was an update. When I went to check the market place, there were no apps there were ready for up date. One would have to think the small update for the OS was sent out. How does one check ?
Sync through Zune.
Oh ya.... the OS update is not OTA (over the air) like the apps update. I will go sync now.
okay seems the update was pulled after some issues. I was rolled out again this week !

Seems there still might be an issue according to the article. I plugged my phone into laptop this morning after receiving another notification yesterday. It seems to be installing now. Fingers are crossed for no issues.
EDIT: OS Version after update reads 7.0.7008.0
The update took about 10 minutes.

How is your DVP after updating to Nodo?

After updating to nodo yesterday I noticed my DVP was crashing a lot more, especially in IE as I browse a lot. I chalked this up to being an extension of my sd card problems but 2 other owners have mentioned they noticed the same increased lockup rate.
What has been your experience after upgrading to nodo? We dont know the ETA of the next update from Dell which is supposed to fix issues, but this MS update was not supposed to make our phones worse so maybe we can get them to expediate the patch. Seems to be only affecting the Dell which points again to questionable QA and testing. Please vote and post your findings.
I updated, and haven't gotten any crashes--but honestly, I can't tell any difference. I don't have the copy paste function in my browser or in Office or anything.
The info under settings, it says my OS version is 7.0.7008.0. When I go home, I'm going to check for an update again, but so far, everything seems the same.

You dont have the nodo update yet, 7008 is the pre-nodo update. 7390 is the final nodo version.
so far, so good. copy/paste works great in all areas of the phone, application response is quicker, scrolling is smoother. the phone did lock up right after installing ESPN ScoreCenter and I had to pull the battery but I'm attributing that to the app, not NoDo at this point.
EDIT: i forgot to mention that after the NoDo update my available storage space went down about 500mb.

I realized that when I was checking the update numbers. That's definitely the case...though Zune won't let me update any further. Not sure why it's different for others...

Plenty of us have not gotten the nodo update yet. A lot of the people who have it got it by using the Zune trick at http://wpcentral.com/easy-hack-forces-nodo-update
Have not noticed any drastic changes after the NODO update. Still experiencing about the same frequency of freezing. Have noticed a slight speed increase when launching graphic heavy applications but nothing major. I am interested to see how my HD7 performs after the update compared to the Venue Pro.
Just an FYI to everyone. I just got off the phone with Dell Mobility as I wanted to make sure they still had someone to talk to after NODO. I was specifically told that the Dell update would take place starting on April 18th. Just enough info to tide over the mob for a few more weeks.
My phone used to freeze with WiFi in the market. I left WiFi on all day, and everything was working great. I have no more stability issues that I have seen so far.
I had an 8gb DVP that i changed to 32gb over a month ago, i have never had any wifi issues or freezing. I updated my phone to the NODO about 24hrs ago and since then have had to pull my battery about 10 times and freezing all the time in some app and market place.thinking about rolling back. also when it is working it is much faster..
My phone seems to be working splendidly after the update. No lockups as of yet, though it didn't lockup too often before. It's much faster, of course.
I'll browse the net for a bit to see what happens but it was fine when I did so earlier. Will report back.
All right. I was able to reproduce this. Took me about 10 minutes or so before it locked up on the second site I visited. Will continue to investigate.
Edit: After further testing, I failed to reproduce this consistently. As a matter of fact, it didn't happen and I browsed for over 20 minutes. That's probably the limit of my phone browsing. I only use IE on the phone if I'm away from my comp and actually have to look something up, or check something.
But, this issue does seem to exist for me, however rare it may be, and hopefully the powers-that-be are aware of this or will become so soon... and fix it.

Why pull the battery? Did the long power button hold also fail to reboot the phone? That trick from my Zune HD seems to work here too.
Freezing on stock units after update?
I see a few people who have upgraded their MicroSD card reporting freezing after the update. Is anyone seeing more hangs/unstability/etc. with NoDo who has NOT changed out their card?

I'm on NODO, 7390. Since the update, have had no problems, no crashes, no freezes. I had upgraded my sd card to a 32g about 2-3 weeks ago.
I've seen alot smoother performance. One thing you may wish to consider. I did pull the battery after the update...as I do with all updates. Some of my friends had issues like lack....pulled battery and restarted...no further issues.
In previous versions of the OS...I would always do a hard reset. I did try that too. I used the restore feature to get back to the fully loaded device. The hard reset did not improve performance...but I had no issues anyway.
To fix the lockup prob wait for the DVP specific update to see if that really does it or change your SD as per the warranty voiding solution some of us have opted for. I went to RadShack and got the same brand/spec as the stocker and I couldn't be happier.

I WANT NON US CREDIT CARD SUPPORT WHICH MS DROPPED IN THIS UPDATE
PS: i think we's add a poll with options:
1. more freezing (stock sd card)
2. more freezing (pre-update upgraded sd card)
3. better performance
4. no change
5. where is my nodo update??
wat say efjay?
Cant change the poll options myself, either a mod will have to do it or another poll has to be started. Tnx for the suggestion though.

My 16gb DVP was running flawless until I did the NoDo update.. since then I have experienced numerous crashes and so many lockups that the phone was almost unuseable...I have restored my DVP back to its original state before the NoDo update and now I have no more problems with the phone..I will wait for the Dell firmware update before I try the NoDo update again...until then it's NO to NoDo for me

keep in mind that you will most likely have no choice in this. You will probably need to get nodo before you get any other updates. It remains unsure how Dell will release the firmware, but most likely it will be exactly like you did the others, through ms. That means 7008 then 7390, before the firmware.
