[Q] I need some basic help over here! :( - Admin could you move this? - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I tagged this thread as "Q", cos ive been sniffing through XDA-forums and I have got a lot of questions. I hope someone can help me.
First of all, Im new to Android, in the Developing side, and also the Flashing side. I would like to learn more about it, but flashing now is my priority.
So related to flash:
I have got a Samsung Galaxy 3, and I cant understand the ROM naming pattern. For example:

What do this mean, most important, how do I may know if its compatible, whith my phone, im from Spain, so I guess I need a Spanished-language ROM.
What about Custom ROMS?
I saw this one: [ROM] Kyrillos' ROM v4.1 Ultimate Edition, a very cool ROM, but I dont even know if the OS will be on Spanish.
I read something about Country codes or something like that, but I couldn't find the "sintax".
Another important question about flashing, how can I avoid a brick? Maybe some kind of Bootloader with nand copy? Maybe I'm ****ed if I fail? :/
Another one:
Do I also need a extra firmware?, maybe a combination of both?, I'm used to flash PSPs and so, I remember that I should had the official firmware...
Final notes:
As u guys can se nowadays I'm a total noob when flashing and so, thats why I would appreciate a lot any sort of help.
Maybe my question were answered before, but I couldn't find em, even with the search bar, if so, please show me some link about it
I hope I'd opened this thread at the correct sub-forum...
I love the forum desing, its seems a serious forum, well organized and clean, I hope could stay in here for a long time
Thx a lot for reading.
P.D: Sorry for my poor English and so, I'll accept any corrections ^^'
-> Okay I placed it wrong.... -_-" the idea was to place it here: Android Software and Hacking General, or maybe here: Galaxy 3 General admin!!! help T_T
I don't wanna repost, please Admin move it T_T
----------------------------------------------------------
Edit:
I've flashed succesfully my Galaxy 3, into Froyo, thx to slumpolo, and some other memebers of this forum ^^
From now on I'll be on forum, for developent matters, thx 4 all ^^

Here is the thread you want to read.
Fair Warning: A moderator is most likely gonna get on here after me and tell you to:
Read the posts at the top of each thread labeled "Sticky", since they contain the same information I just gave you.
When you have a question, it doesn't matter if you think it's "newbie" or "old-school", either way try to do a search for the terms first before you post a question.
Almost every chef has a "Tutorial" or "How to install" link somewhere in the first three posts of their release threads. Most of those probably point to the same place I pointed to
If you have problems with a specific ROM, try replying to that ROM's thread. You are more likely to get help without lectures there
And welcome to xda
lol... sorry I did read the post but most of the wording is totally alien for me ... Alot of the acronyms I dont know ... Once again sorry ...
But I can do all the regular stuff like doing a update on software etc, etc... but re-flashing my HD2 is totally something new to me ...

[GUIDE]ROM FLASHING For NooBs| includes Make&Flash with GOLDCARD|

ROM FLASHING GUIDE
Well lately i have noticed a lot of first timers have joined this community with Wildfire.. We affectionately call them noobs .. SO here is my guide to flashing rom right now its very simple anyone can do it without this guide but for all the first timers who are feeling uneasy or unusual I hope this will help.
Note::WILDFIRE is now completely rooted GO HERE and follow the instructions to root your phone.
In Case you need MORE ROOTING INSTRUCTIONS JUST CLICK.
UPDATE:: If you have already rooted your phone or planning to root it you can get the CUSTOM ROMs Wildpuzzle here
Vibes v1.1 One Stable and one under trial ROM. You can contribute by testing the new ones. thanks.
IMPORTANT:: If you are planning to install a custom rom leave this guide Now without following the steps below and follow the Rom flashing instructions at the Custom Rom Page.
Update :: Flashing ROMS with Goldcard ?? Well HERE IS THE COMPLETE GUIDE INLUDING:
1>How to create Goldcard?
2>How to flash roms with goldcard?
STEP 1 > Go to www.shipped-roms.com and download the rom relevant to your area which you want to flash. Mind this a Uk rom cant be flashed on a phone with Indian Rom i.e Rom from different areas can not be swapped until unless it is rooted make sure to download ROM from your region.
Edit 1: In case you have already rooted your phone and want to get adventurous you can download custom ROMs or Any ROM for your device you can flash any (Wildfire)ROM.
STEP 2 Download HTC Sync™ 3.0.5387 if you dont already have it. Just enter the serial no. which can be found on wildfire Box box and install it on the PC/Laptop you want to sync your phone data with.
STEP 3 After installation connect your PC and Phone with provided USB cable and on the prompt/notification on your phone select HTC sync.
Now very important :: Sync your phone and Backup your data, messages, mails and contacts. You can use backup apps from the market too.
NOW FLASHING TIMESTEP 4 Its Advisable to keep your phone more than 50% charged. Now run the RUU_*_#.exe ie rom file you had downloaded in STEP 1.
STEP 5 Just Follow the on screen instructions on your PC/Laptop.
TAKE CARE:: During the flashing
>>>do not disconnect the USB cable.
>>>The phone will enter the boot-loader mode during this time.
The whole process will take around 10 minutes.
UPDATE: All those who want to Unroot or remove Root just Flash Official RUU***.exe
Have Fun.
Thank you so much, I will use it later.
One question for step 1.: shipped-roms.com are not adding new ROMs since 20. July 2010. Are there any other sources for new ROMs?

Sadly there is no such single source for download since Shipped-roms stopped uploading new roms.. we will Just have to post the links here as and when we find/extract new roms.. presently i dont have a ROM different from Shipped-roms as and when i have one i will start a separate relevant thread for the collection of roms..where we all can post links to our uploaded roms
its nice to see you putting so much effort in the buzz forum here!

Thank you very much for the guide, it realy sounds very simple!
I am a total newbie, never had a smartphone before, never had to deal with ROMs, etc, and I am thinking of getting a Wildfire next week, and if flashing ROMs is done this way, it won't be such a difficult thing to do.
Just a question: Is Wildfire's Bootloader locked or unlocked?
Thank you.

Thank you and welcome we are all newbies at least once in our lives .. Ok now i did not get your question's intention very well but you can access your bootloader i.e you can go to bootloader mode of your phone but you can not flash unsigned ROMs ie custom roms or original roms from another region.. That will be done once the phone is rooted.. Many people including me (though i am not very good at it still i am trying ) are working towards it.. we hope to get it soon then a lot of developments and hacks can be done for this device..

Sorry if I wasn't very exact in my words. I meant exactly what you answered:
If you are able to Flash whatever ROM you want, like Desire/Nexus One users do, but Milestone (for example) users cannot, even though their smartphone is rooted, the Bootloader is Locked.
So from what I understand, when Wildfire gets finally rooted we will be able to Flash whatever unsigned ROM we want.
Keep up the good work and hope you root the phone soon!
Thank you Warrior for this write-up!
I've got some experience in flashing ROMs on a WinMO Phone but a total n00b with Android Phones...
Small question for you if you don't mind...
When looking at the 'What is your firmware' post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=722988), I notice I have exactly the same firmware than the Original Poster although he is from Germany and I'm from Belgium. Others with the same firmware were from Denmark and France.

On my Phone, I can choose between Dutch, French and English as language for the operating system. I guess our German friend will have a German language option on his Phone and the Danish guy will probably have yet another option (Danish). Are all these different languages contained in the ROM itself??
Can we all use the same ROM file from Shipped-ROMs.com?
The only ROM on shipped-ROMs that completely corresponds to the version numbers I see on my phone is this one:
RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_130814_signed.exe

How would I recover the Dutch and French language options if I would ever need to install this WWE ROM??
Thanks for any clarification!
Sylvain
I'm asking the same question as @Sylle.
I have the same firmware, software, etc. numbers as he does. I've bought my Wildfire from Vodafone Romania (also locked on this network - this is the reason I want to change the ROM, until a rooting method is discovered) and it has the locale ROM (I'm guessing Central - Eastern Europe or something...it also has Polish, Czech and so on).
I'm goind to put the WWE ROM (RUU_Buzz_HTC_WWE_1.14.405.2_R_Radio_13.45.55.24_3. 35.15.31_release_130814_signed.exe) but i would like to know if there's any way to extract the current ROM? Or to make a backup of it, in case I ever need it later..
Many thanks for this topic; definitely going on my "subscribed to" list.
I am a n00b to ROM flashing, but not to *nix systems; anxiously awaiting root, at which point this info is going to come in handy.
I just wondered whether anybody knows if HTCFlasher (the Linux Flash software) works with the Wildfire?

Hey dude all you answers one by one :: First things first i am myself new to android flashing but i was pretty good on windows devices not just flashing but a lot of other stuff too..
ALL ANSWERS ARE TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE EVERYONE SHOULD FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME IN CASE I AM WRONG::
About language packs inside the rom ::
There are no extra language packs inside ROM other than what you can see.. what i mean is there is no hidden language pack that can be somehow hacked and enabled.

I see that you have found a ROM that corresponds to your ROM..so you can very well go ahead and flash it but to get back to your Original ROM you have to wait till the ROM you Presently have is posted somewhere ..or rooting is done..hence many options will be open to us..
ALSO UR ROM CANT BE BACKED UP AS OF NOW but once rooting is done you can back it up using NANDROID..
I can not try Rooting this as i gifted this phone to my younger BRO and i just have 3 more days to play with it.. i recently have bought HD2 and left my JOB for my Furthur studies so can not spend like i used to earlier .. i am saying this coz it makes me sad as other DEV's are neglecting wildfire for other high end devices and i am not able to help much still i am trying my best..
A quick request: would it be possible to write a similar n00b guide for those of us on Linux (perhaps Ubuntu specific)?

Hey would love to do that i already have UBUNTU 10.04 on my laptop but never bothered trying flashing on it .. I think since Android is Linux too so it should be easier to root and flash on Linux OS in this case Ubuntu...
BTW i remember something about HTC Flasher..Even more info and discusssion HERE so if you like you can do a bit of your own research too..also there is a thread for Rooting Aria on Ubuntu butfor this to be done on Wildfire we need unrevoked to work on our Wildfire first .. sorry mate this month is my Exam so i am devoting a little less time here in forums..

Hi, thanks for the reply (and good luck with your exams!)
One of the things about being new to this scene (I've quite a lot of programming experience) is the lack of a centralized source for information on existing devices. Getting your head around the terminology can be tough. Furthermore, while there are device specific roots, they rarely give insight into the technical process that is going on behind the scenes. I'd really like to gain some insight into the methods people go through when developing a rooting technique.
For instance, say a kernel level exploit is acquired and you obtained a root shell; what is the process for installing the su binary? (what changes are necessary and, because it's a ROM, where would the binary live?)
A lower level resource that started from scratch explaining the boot process, file structure, signing and verification procedure would be ideal, but I haven't yet found one.
(P.S. not necessarily requesting this, just voicing that this seems to be an area that is uncatered for)
Thanks again for the guide.

Hello Phunctionist!
I've been reading a bit more about the subject and I would like you to check something out so that I can confirm my suspicion...
You can change/add more locale (which determines the language of your Android OS) by installing the application 'localeswitch'.
However this doesn't add text input prediction for that language. I have the impression this is included in your keyboard software (Input Method extension - IME) on an android phone.
As we both have the same firmware, i'm wondering if we have the same input settings available for the keyboard as I also have options for Polish and Czech.
Amongst others does your keyboard for example allows you text prediction for
- Dutch (Nederlands): mine does
- French (français): mine does
- Croatian (Hrvatski): Mine does NOT
Hope your answers will bring me some clarification...
Thanks in advance!
Sylvain

I need another ROM for my Wildfire because it has Chinese language options that I think they are Hongkong and Taiwan. I downloaded this file
RUU_Buzz_HTC_FRA_Bouygues_1.23.483.2_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_140524_signed.exe
and tried flashing this ROM many time but got some errors. At first it was very hard for my phone to connect PC, when it's done the Updater told me the ROM is invalid for my phone.. So which ROM I must download and do I need to hack root my phone?

ROMs are locked to locations.
Asia has their own rom so you must download the Asia rom.
Not sure if it will fix your problem.

[Q] [ROM] 29/Jan Middle East P1000JPJM4/Ext4 with MoDaCo Kernel, Fast and Stable

Apparently, I am not allowed to ask questions in the developer forum until I make ten posts in a non-developer forum. I am just a casual reader and I rarely feel the need to post. Anyways:
The ROM in the subject line is a JM* ROM and it is suggested that those ROMs are locked in some way. Ref: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=888071
Someone else asked the question that I want to ask: Is this ROM safe to use. Ref: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=933028&page=5 reply 42.
The question is dated at least 4 days ago and there are no responses. Since the firmware bundle was released a month after the warning, is it safe to assume that the bootloader issue is taken care of? Is there a safer and just as smooth version that I could use instead?
I bought my Galaxy Tab used and some stuff is weird or missing (like the calculator app) so I want to do a clean install. The ROM referenced in the title appears to be the best that I could find so far. Does anyone have any suggestions?

No need to answer such question since it is a cooked ROM; where; usually, such traps have to be removed.
It is based on P1000JPJM4 Middle East version that support Right-to-Left writing languages such as Arabic, Urdu & Persian...
This ROM is rooted so you can add/remove any app upon your usage
If you are not interested in Right-to-Left Language, I suggest you JMI based modaco or overcom versions; both are recently updated.
Awesome. Thank you for the answer. I am in Kuwait currently so even though I do not speak Arabic, it is possible that an Arabic person may need to use my device so I will stay with this ROM for now. I greatly appreciate your advice.
strike
Oh. I just noticed. You are the one who cooked the ROM. Thank you. It works very well. I noted that someone said their camera app did not work but I tested mine and it works fine. I definitely appreciate your efforts. Rock on.
its working fine for me
I am using this rom and it works great for me and the task manager is there! maybe because i backed up all my apps and restored it after I flashed. I really love that it supports arabic. Even though i live in the US, I read arabic a lot and its really dumb that they don't have that in all the roms!
P.S. I posted things in the development page many times before and they never rejected my posts!! I never started a thread though I always reply with my questions or comments to threads, maybe thats why.

maybe aka: HD2000 (thats why im here)
please help, all i need is to check what model it is most related to and ill take from there.

If so, its nothing like the hd2, so couldn't possibly say whether you'd be able to use any roms or hspl or magldr.
Your best bet is use Google translate to read some of the many Chinese forums.
its is the HD2000
but not the one on the youtube link you posted.. so i guess im have to address those chinese forums

[Q] Help with Chinese i9500

Hi there,
I read through the forum, and even stopped on the 'noobie friendly' post... but.. there's noobie and then there's me I guess. The lingo used is completely out of my league... boy have things changed since 2010.......... (Last time I did something like this... it was a lot easier back in the day...)
So.. here is my issue: I bought a S4 i9500 in China- and would like to change the factory image to one that has google play. Ideally a north American or European version for linguistic purposes. I would even go with a hong-kong one if available.
I seem to have the gist of it (get Odin and a firmware) but... that's where you loose me. Could anyone help me? I would be eternally grateful
*bump*
I would truly appreciate any help... I've continued to do my research but I'm afraid I'll screw something up and brick my phone...
1. Flash custom recovery
2. Try the custom roms out here for the i9500.
It should work.

Thanks! To be honest though, the words Custom Rom mean absolutely nothing to me :/ After hours of researching the forum with apparently the wrong keywords I think I may have landed on a post that gives me a dumbed-down step-by-step. Sorry for any waste of time I may have given some people.. The world of development (or IT for that matter) is absolutely beyond me. I'll stick to teaching foreign languages me thinks...
