What do you guys think the odds are for getting the 2.3 HTC Sense OS from the Flyer to work on the Nook?

Nope. The same reason why its not possible to have a sense rom on a non-htc phone, they hacks up the coding so much from what I've heard, its nearly impossible (or very very hard). I wanted Sense on my phone and thats the answer they gave me.

There actually is Sense on a non-HTC phone - they have gotten Sense to work on the Nexus S (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034130&highlight=sense).

Please do...I will love to see it...

That port is being done by a very good friend of mine, too. (real life friend)
The funny thing is that the hardest parts of the port so far are the radio interfaces (like 3G which the Nook DOESN'T have.)
I'm watching Craigslist for a cheap Nook. If I can find one, maybe I'll try my hand at porting it. (Right now, with my full time work schedule and my school schedule, it would be hard to spend too much time on this, if it ever happens, but I wouldn't mind getting it done...) Now the biggest issue is simply: Getting one for cheap. (Like sub $180 or less (preferably $150 or less...))

the vogue comeback?

anybody else think the touch vogue & qvga is going to be making a huge comeback? all i see are threads with people selling their touch pros and diamonds to go back to the vogue. i think it is one of htc's most valued ppc's. also with android running so well on it now i really think alot of users will be coming back.
thoughts?
People want the latest & greatest. I don't even want the Vogue but is what I am stuck with because of the stupid thinking over at Verizon. I don't have a data plan & you can only get the touch Pro if you are on a data plan.
No other handset is as mature in the Android space. It is an amazing OS running well enough for everyday use.
I'm keeping my Vogue until I can get an Android phone.

x2... I'm locked into my Alltel/Verizon? Contract til 2010 but luckily I picked up the last two in-stock Vogues they had for the wifey and me for only $80/ea. I initially regretted my decision but now that Android on the Vogue has matured so much that it can be used for everyday use I'm more than thrilled with the decision. Happy to be Rockin' the Vogue!!!

Same, even though the Vogue has worked out for me. I still would rather have a touch pro, or the touch pro 2 once it comes out.
I'd really like to have the Moto Schole thats coming out after using Android on the Vogue, its a nice OS.

WM is a terrible platform, it doesnt offer anything that android doesnt or at some point wont. Android even runs better on the vogue which was designed for WM. I just dont see why anyone would voluntarily choose WM overandroid. It would be great, if this was 2003.

You can absolutely customize Android. There are apps on the market and tons of downloadable themes. The apps cost a bit of money, and being that we're not really "stable" yet, I haven't bothered to buy them.
And need I point out mssmison's themed builds?

I believe that was fixed today, although I may be mistaken on exactly what that entails.
Anyway, I tried the free "Lite" version of a couple theming apps a while back, and they worked fine. I forget what the difference between Lite and Full were though.

Dude, what apps are you trying to run that require root? I've seen you post this several times while looking around the forums today. I've never had an app intalled that wouldn't run because I wasn't root.

HTC EVO 4G ROM on HTC HD2

Will the EVO 4G hardware be close enough to the HD2 for it to help the Android on HTC project to put Android on the HD2? Any thoughts?

An interesting concept, there are those that are asking if Windows Phone7 is going to work with the HTC HD2 as well. Be nice if we could choose either. The HD2 is a lovely piece of kit.
when is the evo actually out? nobody got a whiff of a leaked rom?

May the force be with you
I'm not so sure about this....
With the Evo not coming to UK waters and no other screen size planned this side of the pond the ROM on the HD2 may well be the only answer.
However, lets not forget.. the Evo has a lot inside which will be different to the HD2 and these short comings won't make the HD2 an Evo in disguise.
It may end up being a sheep in wolf's clothing.
I don't think you'll see it because of driver issues but if enough people want it anything is possible.

Tell that to Winterboard and AndroidLock. But yes, theming isn't supported natively.
However the iPhone port of Android is an actual native port, loaded using OpeniBoot, a custom "iBoot"-style bootloader. And you thought the HTCSPL system was tricky...

Belated, but May the Fourth be with you.
I find it quite unlikely. Developers are still trying to get Android EMULATED, not installed, on the Touch Pro, and that version still suffers from poor battery life and frequent errors.
You can't just drag and drop ROMS from completely different operating systems onto different phones; otherwise, all phones would be sold without an OS installed.
The two phones may be similar in regards to features, but the insides are completely different. For example, the Evo has a maXTouch sensor, while the HD2 does not. So, while you may be able to get Android emulated on the HD2, it doesn't look like it's going to be very possible to transform it into an Evo by giving it the latter's ROM.

Since i've got android on my Sprint Vogue, i'd say it's possible if the right people want it to happen.

i ave a nexus one, and jsut got a good deal on a HD2..convice me...

to keep the hd2. i have not had the hd2 for like 2 months, has alot changed? roms? windows mobile?
whats the news on getting windows mo 7 or an android port to the HD2?
also...is there any way to make Sense like my androind sense regarding widgets, twitter etc...
thanks...i have so missed my hd2 screen size....
Whether WP7 or Android will come to HD2 is still unknown. Sure, everyone will say it's only a matter of time, but I'll be straight with you and tell you it's as good as a 50/50 chance.
Having said that, it's a phone. Keep it or sell it. It's your call.

Did you install cookies home tab and editor? If not, you should try that. makes as many quick links as you want. Very Android/Iphonish. Works awesome... Also the new ROM with the Zim touch sensitivity fix makes it pretty rad.
If you want a real man's phone get the HD2...lolol
All joke's aside, it's really a matter of personal opinion: the HD2 uses WinMo, and with the latest ROM versions out there things run pretty smooth.
But if you want Android, then keep the Nexus. In the end, the basic features are the same, it's all about what feels right for you. (God I sound like a hippie...jk lol.)

Very true...i have had lock ups also...
I am going to try the latest energy rom now. any tweaks that you would recommend i must do right after?
also..how can i get the original white flip clock with weather on that rom???
From my Personal Experience, i had a nexus one Which i sold and later bought the HD2, i have applied almost every rom available and text messaging lags a lot, also Stock rom is too slow and other roms are smooth and fast but out of the nowhere freeze and give me major problems.
it has better hardware than the nexus but to tel you the thruth, the nexus one with stock everything is so much faster than the HD2, all i can say is try it for yourself, im however swicthing back to the nexus or mytouch slide, because even my g1 was a lot faster than this phone with much less hardware, and i am not joking neither do i mean to say windows mobile sucks, but it is just for me.
if i get flamed, too bad!

get the Nexus. I traded my HD2 for one and love it.
Android is so much faster and is so much easier to use than WinMo.
That being said, if you need it for business, go with the HD2.
I had a Nexus 1 for 2 months then sold it and bought my HD2, I love them both, the Nexus 1 is more like an iPhone as far as user friendly. Win Mobile is harder to set up and change but much more powerful. I've contemplated getting another Nexus 1 but the HD2 hardware is so damn sweet, I think I'm staying with the HD2 now and waiting for the HD3 or something else.

I'm thinking of buying the HTC HD2 but is there much point now, if it won't be getting updated and newer and better phones are coming out?
I'm looking at it as it has the biggest screen(besides the streak which im also considering, but much more expensive)
What would you suggest?

Over the last couple of years, ive only used the bold 9000, HTC Desire and iPhone 4, however i sent back the iphone 4 as the ui is getting very boring.
I use the phone more for texts and internet than phone, i primarily want to use it for web browsing, thats why the streak appealed to me, but this is cheaper, im just worried about updates, and the lack of official support after WP7

I can't wait until the end of 2010 i have no phone at present lol. Also im in the UK so the Evo is a no go otherwise i would definitely have it.
if you like bets, get one now.
If the bet goes well, you will buy a "cheap" device which will get a fully functional froyo OS on it when the android devteam has completed the job, and be almost at the level of the Evo, without its bulkiness... and before the thing goes out and the demand increases, making the prices go higher.
If the bet goes bad, you still get a cheap but powerful device with WM on it
Anyway, given my experience with the device, and the market which is available for italy, I would get it again now as well.

Try before you buy my friend.
I've been using winmo for years and I love it. The HD2 is my favorite device yet.
Winmo users generally love to tweak. These forums make tweaking fun and you can usually get whatever you need, want and more for your phone if you're willing to search for it.
That being said, some find winmo and the HD2 an utter frustration. Some lament about buying the HD2 because it doesn't do everything right out of the box.
So if you like to customise, tweak and experiment, you may just love the HD2.
If you like something that works to it's full potential right out of the box, but may not be quite so custimisable and tweakable, perhaps another platform would be better.
i really NEVER recommend ppl a windows phone.. except i know that he can handle it.
i dont know u, so i would recommend android
u NEED to know what u do when u are using winmo, or u will hate it
The more I read about WM7, the more I am glad I have a WM6.5 phone, and I'm not planning to 'upgrade' to such a locked down platform.

I love tweaking, which is another reason for considering this phone, and which is why i got rid of the iPhone 4.
I love the idea of registry tweaks, which may sound weird, and i also love the idea of a winmo device being just like windows on the pc (regarding registry tweaks).
And regarding having everything work out of the box, i find that very boring, im always looking to do new things with a phone.
The only problem i am seeing is the future updates, looking at Android they are going to have constant updates, but obviously winmo 6.5 is not. however if i know that winmo will be getting unofficial updates from devs etc i will be more than happy to buy the HD2.
Thanks for all the replies so far.
Ok, i went ahead and bought a HD2, hopefully i'll enjoy it.

i have to say i agree about the screen.. i have a hd2 and my friend got a desire soon after me.. the screen estate difference is just HUGE...

I was getting sick of the headaches after surfing the web on my iPhone 4 due to the small screen.

The only bad point i can think of is Opera's non support of 10.1 for wm6.5. Skyfire's pretty usefull for flash though so all's not lost. i'm sure you will love your new phone bud......

Porting HTC Sense (Captivate & Vibrant) to Fascinate

Hi guys, a while back I heard that TeamGalaxySense were working on a port of HTC Sense to our Fascinate. But i havent heard anything since then. Ive seen on the Captivate and Vibrant forums and they have a ROM already made. Im wondering if it is possible to port the Capitvate Sense ROM to the fascinate.
PS:I used to port ROMS from the HTC Hero to the Droid Eris a year ago, it was possible since they had the same processors and other internal hardware.

no sense rom will every be functional enough on a samsung (or moto, or etc) phone to use for regular every day usage....the nexus s has one that has 1x data and wifi...but 3g never seems to be possible and the bugs are extremely problematic
the amount of effort involved vs reward seems prohibitive
HTC to HTC will always work for the most part, HTC to anything else will never be fully working.

There's a very nice theme for UKB which approximates sense rather nicely: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=994561
What everyone else said, but maybe this will illustrate how hard (impossible) it is: people have been trying to port Sense to the original Droid (a fully unlocked, fully AOSP phone, so as clean a slate as you can get) since it came out in October 2009.
To this day, there's never been a fully functional port.
