The FCC launched the pleading cycle for AT&T and T-Mobile. Hurry up and sign it. - Networking

The Federal Communications Commission has launched the pleading cycle for the proposed merger of AT&T and T-Mobile. The union would make AT&T the nation's largest wireless carrier, with over 41 percent of wireless subscriber market share. Whether you love or hate the idea—get your feedback to the FCC soon. Petitions to deny are due through May 31 (docket #11-65). Oppositions to those petitions are expected by June 10. The last chance for push back is June 20.
Please file while they're accepting this. This isn't some forum made thing. This is the FCC actually wanting your feedback now.
For those who don't understand how to file ->
Download this pdf file -> http://www.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2011/db0428/DA-11-799A1.pdf <- Right click, save as.
Then fill out the info requested located here -> FCC Site
For the Proceeding Number enter 11-65
Type of Filing: Petition
Upload the pdf file at the bottom where it asks for the file name. Browse to the pdf and select it. Next to it put Petition to deny.
All stuff needed other than what I said is in red.

I read an article on Arstechnica and one of the commenters posted similar instructions and I have filed my petition as well.
+1 to you for encouraging more people to join in this.

Well isn't that just a kick in the pants. I applaud you sir for your impassioned plea, and clear as a bell instructions. (I opened the links you posted in other tabs and referred to your post for instructions.) Thanks again. (I have also forwarded copies of that post to family members asking them to petition the FCC as well. I hope you don't mind. )

Live chat....

We should all flood samsung and Tmobile requesting better support for this phone..here is my live chat with samsung:
Chat Information Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
Chat Information You are now chatting with 'Alexander '
Alexander : Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: hi
Visitor: I would like to know when are we getting Froyo on the vibrant?
Alexander : I understand that you want to know about the froyo. Am I correct?
Visitor: yes
Alexander : Thank you for the confirmation.
Alexander : Please Allow me to check with the database for the phone.
Visitor: ok
Alexander : Thank you for holding.
Alexander : Unfortunately there is no update available at this time for your vibrant, nor is there an estimated date of one being released. We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
Alexander : Our software department are under the process of releasing a new upgrade for this device. And we expect very soon there will be an update for this phone model.
Alexander : I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
Visitor: do you know an estimate of when this will be release?
Alexander : As of now we do not have any information on the release date but we expect the update very soon.
Alexander : You will be notified by the carrier once you get an update.
Alexander : Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Visitor: no that's it thanks
Alexander : You are most welcome.

Agreed everyone should voice their anger.
We should pick a date a flood their support...don't get me wrong I got froyo on my phone thanks to XDA but we should all do this so they can hear our voice loud and clear!
I agree, we should get all Galaxy S users involved and flood Samsungs & T-Mobiles Facebook and Twitter
While I applaud your initiative, I don't think that flooding T-Mobile's LiveChat is going to accomplish much, other than annoying some customer service representatives who have little to no knowledge of when or if you are getting your update. Sure, your conversation may be stored in some nice database somewhere and sure, maybe if a large enough swarm of Vibrant users all hit that LiveChat on the same day someone *might* notice a trend, but other than that, you're taking a CARE rep away from someone who might have a real issue.
Don't get me wrong. Does it suck that we don't have legit Froyo, yes. So, it may be a "real" issue to some people, but I also have to look at it from the T-Mobile employee side of the fence since I'm a store manager and deal with these concerns and complaints daily.
I own a Vibrant, I feel your pain. However, guess what. If 10, 100, or 1000 of you came to my store and said "When is Froyo coming?" It probably still wouldn't come any faster.

No we shouldn't do it via live chat, but we should get Epic, Captivate, Fascinate, and Vibrant owners to message T-Mobile and Samsung Via Twitter and Facebook about our frustration for the lack of Support and Upgrades on this phone. We should all do it on the same day and get all Galaxy S owners to join in.
I've heard hundreds of people on this forum b*tching and complaining, why not complain directly to Samsung & T-Mobiles Facebook and Twitter instead of crying on xda.

This I agree with. Twitter, Facebook... hell, why not even sites like LinkedIn. These are all social platforms that are meant to make our voices heard. If we deliver them with the correct method, I'm all for it.

Count me in too.
All we have to do now is plan the day, and make similar threads in epic, fascinate, captivate and international galaxy s rooms. So all galaxy s owners can message samsung/t-mobile the same day.
We should get other forums involved too, like androidforums.com, and maybe we can get tech sites like androidandme involved, I think those guys all use t-mobile.
I would organize this but i'm superbusy trying to juggle 50 things rightn now.
I'm in . Lets flood then instead of these great forums

I agree we all need to do it the same day. Someone (not me just brought new baby home from hospital ) needs to start an official thread in all 4 (vibrant, epic, fascinate, captivate) forums to get everyone committed to a day. This or a lawsuite is the only way to get the attention necessary
Also to the Tmobile store manager on page 1 of this thread, so are you sure that it is Samsung holding this up? have they no given it to all the carriers?

No Froyo for any US Galaxy S phone in 2010, according to androidandme
Check out this article on androidandme.
http://androidandme.com/2010/12/pho...ones-in-the-u-s-will-see-android-2-2-in-2010/
Even androidandme thinks we should voice our opinions, with out wallets:
"I don’t see the situation improving any time soon until consumers start to demand (aka purchase) phones with the latest version of Android."
Here is some sad news, more reason to voice our opinion:
"Samsung hit their goal of becoming the top manufacture of Android phones in the U.S., so there is little reason for them to change their current strategy."
Ya, I guess from Samsung's perspective, why provide updates when idiots keep buying our product with outdated software.
"The number of upset customers is certainly growing, but I’m not sure if Samsung has received the message yet"
Maybe it is time Samsung recieved the message?
Another interesting thread:
http://androidandme.com/2010/12/pho...ng-me-to-update-my-operating-system-to-froyo/
Let's not buy the Galaxy S 2, that is a great way to show Samsung that we want them to support there older models, from my experience with the Galaxy S Vibrant, I know I won't be getting a Samsung phone ever again.
Im down count me in! Its retarded not being able to update your phone!

Why not just contact Samslug everday as often as you can beginning on the first of the month? Emails, phone calls, live chat... or all of the above. Whatever means suits you. Hells, hit up Tmo too. Tell them you're goin' to downgrade your plan for month or two. Cancel all together if you have the option to do so. Hit'em in the pockets. Even if we aren't going to get an official froyo update, why not just tell us so we can just move on... The bastids already gots my doe.
I have such a love/hate relationship with this phone; mainly due to it's support... or lack thereof.
I dunno, it was just a thought. I already feel as though I've been had. Bleh. -j
Make an app, that has count-down timer.
Timer should be centrally linked.
Then every week, it does a countdown towards preset time and date., like twice a day, (so it covers the globe)..that time your phone ting ting tings and you all hit samsung live support, twitter, facebook.
It can also ask you to select freinds with Galaxy S, when the timer ETA is like 30 mins, it'll also send out msgs to them.
Make sure big blogs cover it, while you're protesting on Samsung tweet, tag big blogs, your fav. android journalists and bloggers, and there you have it. A PR headache for Samsung. Angry customers, bad press = Less future customers. So yes, it does affect them.

Operation #MotoBBB

Operation #MotoBBB:
I really don't know how useful making a new petition at Change.org is going to do, given that OP MOSH didn't lead us anywhere. But I feel that this + the BBB complaint rally may take us somewhere. Because, for each new BBB complaint, Motorola receives a brand new complaint, a brand new email to reply to and each email they ignore, the more their ratings and ranking and reputation will be affected at BBB.
So, here is the new petition @Change.org:
https://www.change.org/petitions/mo...s-unlock-the-bootloaders?share_id=ZhoxoqVsuz&
The aim of the petition is to get an apology from Motorola and Verizon, get all our Bootloaders unlocked AND get all the devices released within 18 months of the ICS release date to be updated to ICS.
The aim of the BBB complaint is to submit a personal, one on one complaint to Motorola. The way this works is that Motorola will get an email detailing the complaint and they should respond to it within a month, else it will count negatively on their ratings at BBB. An XDA member named iBolski already did this and he got a very detailed response. So this seems to be effective.
Secondly, I and several other users at the Droid X2 forums have also filed a complaint. Though we didn't get a response yet, I feel that Motorola is taking its time as it wants to respond correctly. So, I feel that this is adding pressure to them. Nevertheless, the fact that they MUST respond, otherwise face consequences definitely means that if a sizeable number of people complain, they will be under severe pressure.
So far 9,279 people signed the OP MOSH petition. I can't imagine how much pressure this will cause if each person who signed that petition also filed a BBB complaint. So many BBB complaints in such a short time would firstly be a record and secondly will be a huge pressure on Motorola who HAVE to respond to each and everyone of them, else face consequences.
Therefore, I URGE you to file a BBB complaint, even if you Don't sign the petition. But please do sign the petition once you file a complaint since that way I will know how many of you guys filed a BBB complaint!
Attached is a template letter for filing for the BBB complaint AND instructions on how to do so!
May we prevail! Please do submit this thread as a news tip! The more people know about this, the stronger we get! If you want to follow my ongoing struggle with Motorola, go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1547632
Instructions to File BBB Complaint + Template Complaint
God speed!
P.S: Moderators, upon consulting with a few xda members I felt that this is NOT spamming as I am soliciting the help of members across several forums. Hence, please do not ban or in other ways punish me. If this is spam, kindly let me know, since I have done this for the first time and moreover, as can clearly be seen from the post I am bringing forth a genuine concern that needs me to post this across all Motorola android phone forums! Thank you for understanding.
I understand what you are trying to do, but AT&T are my provider. They won't apologise for anything. The Atrix was released before the Google 18 month agreement, so that won't fly, and AT&T controls the bootloader unlock issue through contract with Motorola, at least for AT&T users. Sorry, but that's the reality for most people. BBB won't/can't do anything about complaints from AT&T customers regarding Verizon, bootloader unlock, or ICS (which has been announced for 3rd quarter).

Yeah, I understand that Atrix is under AT&T. Still, it isn't like Verizon is any different from AT&T. They are just as stubborn and fixed on not unlocking Bootloaders as AT&T. Hence, we have just as good a shot as any other service provider. I also agree that the 18 month thingy won't apply to this. However, that was written generically. Moreover, if you note on the Motorola Android Software Update page, you can see that Atrix IS getting ICS!!! How ironic that a phone which is beyond the 18 month window gets the ICS update promise but a phone like mine, the Droid X2, which is within said time frame is not getting it, or at least it is not confirmed yet, though an xda member who did file a BBB complaint got info from Moto that we are not getting ICS. Anyway, I am happy for you guys!
Anyway, that is besides the point. The point is the more people file BBB complaints, the more pressure on Motorola since they HAVE to answer all those complaints, else face some consequences, albeit probably minor ones.

Three UK questionnaire

Hi guys, hope this doesn't breach any forum advertising rules or anything. But my nephew is doing a project at school about the mobile phone industry and why consumers sign up to certain networks. He's looking at marketing in particular and has done about two questionnaires and research etc...
Anyway, he asked me if i could do one of his questionnaires, so i did and i thought i'd put it on here so he could get more responses. Now it was originally on paper so i've just copied it into this website. There might be a few errors as i haven't fixed it all.
I'd be very grateful if you guys could fill one out for him, shouldn't take longer than a couple of minutes.
Just to let you know. To fill this out, you have the be a Three UK customer who has left/switched from a different network in the past.
http://freeonlinesurveys.com/s.asp?sid=d54749u3lzs99iv65854
Thanks guys.
P.s please no spam answers or any bias based on the traffic sense thing. The survey Is meant for new customers who have just taken out a contract recently.
I think there is a problem with the link, it brings me to a page displaying; "Incorrect survey link code!"
Link updated,
Thanks mate.

Samsung has NO customer forums? Really?

I just went to the Samsung site looking for their Customer Forums where could report some bugs in their latest OTA and suggest some improvements.
THERE ARE NONE.
Seriously, a multi-billion dollar company with NO way for their customers to interact, get problems solved or make suggestions. Nothing. It is inconceivable to me that in the year 2012 a company the size of Samsung would be in the stone ages of customer interaction.
Want to know how they get customer feedback? You log on and post a review of the product. That's it! No interaction, no feedback, no idea if anyone even saw what you wrote - you just post a review and pray.
Yeah you can go to Samsung's Facebook page and post something on their wall but that's not a proper forum.
http://www.facebook.com/samsungsupport
I am honestly dumbfounded at this revelation.
They do it on social media. In a pretty big way too.
Surely, in your research of the GN 10.1, you found that out - I did. They do have a question and answer area.
A "rant" is neither productive nor helpful. They don't have forums. Period.

Social media is a pathetic replacement for an actual Forum. Lol, can you imagine xda-developers as a Facebook page?
Massive fail Samsung. It's clear from some of the changes they made in the last OTA that they aren't listening to the users.

That's probably why they don't have forums. Not enough people ranting. You'll have to forgive me. I didn't research whether Samsung had customer forums. I just assumed they weren't living in 1960.
I am endeavoring to report some bugs on their Facebook page. I have no idea if anyone else has already reported these or if there is follow-up as their "forum" has no apparent structure. Will report back if I get any feedback.
unfortunately yes.
I've been looking for its own forums few years back, and find NONE. :cyclops:
They rather use a facebook page, which we don't know the page is being maintained by who.
But, if you need a fast response, you can try their website, there's a LIVECHAT down there.
Facebook is really a pathetic idea to make it as the main forum of such a big company (in my opinion).
If facebook is being used as an additional media, then yes, it's a good idea.
Time for Mr. Peabody's WABAC Machine
For support: Not a forum and not Facebook.
Samsung needs a Web and Android App accessible Support database.
From 1979 to 2002 I was an IBM Mainframe Systems Programmer at UF in Gainesville Florida, then at the School Board of Alachua County Florida.
I watched large companies like IBM and CA move into the web era with their Support. I moved with them from phone calls and mailing fix tapes to Customer Searchable Databases with user entry for new issues, and with Downloadable Fixes for resolved issues.
Of course, way back then issues for my organization affected 10s of thousands of people where resolving an issue meant dealing with only one person in our organization.
Moving forward to today, we've got 10s of thousands of people and many, many more who all need their individual fixes. Very time consuming compared to dealing with one person.
This is one reason why more and more OTA forced SW updating is happening and why the big companies are pushing cloud computing. Such as Google evolving the Chrome platform; Adobe offering Creative Cloud; and VMWare and IBM competing for hosting Enterprise virtual computers.
Aloha.. Al :highfive:
Is it just me or do 80% of their Facebook Support moderators look like complete burnouts?
If a Forum is too hard for them how about a simple Suggestion Box where users can report bugs directly to the Design Team?
My faith in their meeting future needs with OTA's is greatly diminished. Hopefully they will surprise me.

tonyz3,
I think you should put in an application to work for the Samsung Design Team, you seem like their kind of guy. :cyclops:
They used to have customer Forum. I was a member. They were so heavily censored, that you could say virtually nothing negative.
When the Galaxy S was having GPS issues, a class action suit was initiated about the GPS problem. I posted this fact and my post was edited to eliminate the sentence stating that. My post appeared but the words "Class Action Lawsuit" magically disappeared!
Moderators would actually cut pieces out of your posts before they would appear.
I then tried to send a private message to another forum member about the censorship and they censored and blocked the private messages as well and then sent me a message saying any more communications of that type would get me banned.
I then posted a second time to the main forum complaining that they were censoring negative posts and was in fact banned from the forum. So there isn't much of a point to a Forum where you aren't alowed to communicate.
So perhaps they just decided to institute the ultimate form of censorship and eliminate the forum altogether.
