as of current it will only be available in russia and as for the 1.4 ghz cpu, it's a single core chip. give me a 1.2 dual core over a 1.4 single any day.

S2 all the way man!!!!!!!!!

Old news--not really accurate either.

if it took about 7 months for the hero to become a "outdated" phone i take it the evo will be considered old by x-mas?
I dun think so. Eco is more high end and hero was very low end compared to other phones when it came out. N1 is still popular and even g1 is pretty popular

maybe not from sprint, but better devices are just around the corner, i mean look at the desire HD, the Evo just came out, and the second gen snapdragon core with a 3x better GPU is already here...not to mention the Galaxy phones, with their hummingbird cores and super amoleds...
Id say the EVO goes EOL by q2/q3 2011 but there will still be plenty of development going on here for at least few years. I been seeing more EVOs around town lately Im wondering if there's a Walmart selling them cheap.
My upgrade is in March also I hope something phenomenal is out by then.
Honestly the Evo might be outdated sooner. Look at the N1 hardware vs. Evo hardware. I mean the processor + ram, not the 'camera'. It will only be a few months until dual core processors and parallel processed apps come through and make the Evo seem slow. For now, its a beast of a king though.

the epic 2??? YES ITS OFFICIAL! but.....

http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/24/sprints-2011-q3-roadmap-leaks-gives-a-glimpse-of-our-smartphon/
its only a 1.2ghz SINGLE-core. WHAT UP WITH THAT!?!? either way it is coming out for those lookin to upgrade this year or that want the latest and greatest but with all the dual core phones out right now who would want to waist their money on a single core phone knowing that a dual-core android slider will more than likely be available within the following year? sammy need to step up the hardware for keyboard users. hopefully thatgets changed before launch then maybe ill consider using the 1-yr upgrade
Thx for posting. So what the hell is the difference between the Epic and Epic 2? I mean, I'm already OCed to 1.2 w/ hummingbird, 8mb camera, 4" display. Unless is has a super-duper-AMOLED and some other insanely yet-to-be-named features, I don't get it.

Epic 2 seems like it's simply an "updated" Epic that is targeted towards new users in the high end Android phone realm who want a keyboard that might hesitate at a year old phone. Doubt they had current Epic users in mind when they made the thing. Plus there are probably a few people that are sold by the "2" on it. To me, Epic -> Epic 2 is like moving from the old PS3/XBox360 to the new slimmer ones.

Yeah, if I didn't need a keyboard, I wouldn't have gotten the Epic in the first place.
Its not a bump like the Evo got, but its going to make a very ridiculously nice midrange phone. They will probably bump up the ram and give it gingerbread and give it a Super AMOLED+ screen, which easily puts it on a level playing field with any Tegra 2 phone on the market. There is no real need for dual core right now. For people with an original Epic, there is no need to upgrade to an Epic2 of course, but the Epic will remain a very capable and very high end phone at least until 2012.
My next upgrade will probably be a quad core phone sometime in early 2012. Nothing coming out now, not even the super sexy GSII is that big of an upgrade form the Epic. If Samsung could get us gingerbread soon and if we could get some AOSP or CM7 on here, there will be zero need to upgrade to anything else for a LONG time.

What do you think we can expect from kernels in the future?

The other day a friend of mine with the new Evo 3D told me that, even while the phone has a locked bootloader and no root, someone was able to overclock the phone to 1.8 Ghz...That's insane! It's 1.2 by default.
Ours is 1.0 of course, what do you think we could max it out at in the future, as more development happens on the phone down the road?
And for that matter, do you think we'd be able to see those "trickle" battery kernel things implemented at some point? I read about those some time ago and it seemed pretty awesome/great for battery life without being limited on usage.
What are some of your thoughts on our kernel-ish future?
Tegra 2 optimization with 1.5 ghz max overclock imo.
I'm not putting my phone past 1.2 though. 1.2 tegra results are 3300ish/2800ish on smartbench, and that's good enough for anything on android atm.
We just need a CM7 build on the atrix. Even if it's not too great. That'll attract a huge crowd to it and then we'll have an even more active dev community.
1.8ghz Evo3d is about equal with a 1.0ghz atrix lol
The Xoom Tegra 2's seem to be overclocking rather well.
1.5ghz looks like the sweet spot.

It all depends on the voltage.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the clock doesn't affect the heat of the chip, only the voltage does (which can change with the clock, but doesn't have to). So you can have a 1.2 ghz cpu running at 6mv and a 1.0 ghz cpu running at 6mv and they will run at the same temps (if I'm correct).

I have my Xoom stable at 1.6ghz. From what I've read, that seems to be pretty standard, some unlucky soles have to settle for 1.4 (or even less) but there's also a decent number of lucky ones who have it running stably 1.7ghz.
I've had my Atrix for a month or so now, and being international, can't unlock the bootloader (yet). Can't wait to see some custom ROMs/kernels!!

I say 1.5 is easy for us. Perhaps 1.7/1.8 can come at a later time, but I've seen Faux's kernel on the G2X for 1.5, and that just seems to be a sweet spot for Tegra2.

LOL! I know what you mean! I never really liked the form factor of any of the nexus series phones. But thats just me. I do however really LOOOOVE the design of the Galaxy S series ( captivate, infuse, sgs2 and Note) I already played with the Samsung media player at Best Buy which is exactly the same form factor as the Note with the exception of the pen, and immediately thought to myself, this can definitely work for me.
Im hoping the note is 199 on upgrade, and not 250 though!
Perfect, just in time for my upgrade.
Eh, I'll wait for something else or the SGSIII.

I am definitely excited for this device, though a 2ghz dualcore doesn't seem possible in the "near" future to me, since the Epic 4g touch just came out, if they released something so powerful there wouldn't be reason to buy it right? Samsung software
Not google
Not AOSP
Horrible update support
Not worth an upgrade
Not buying
Waiting for the next nexus and I suggest others do to
Edit: stupid spell check

I'd pay full price (no contract) for a galaxy nexus with a hw keyboard!

It needs a 4.6" display, not another 4" like we have.
Samsung pretty much ruined my first "smart phone" experience after i educated myself and realized how evil they are when it comes to staying ahead of the curve on updates. If it wasnt for dedicated devs, our phones would be pretty basic.

Ooops thanks by accident. without any updates this phone woulda still been better than all other phones and still be competitive with phones that are coming out now. You really need to take a look at the quality of phones. Other phones might as well be brick right out the box. Samsung didn't ruin your smartphone you did.
@op <here's your flaming> was the other samsung epic 2 thread not good enough for you to post this in? Before you ask yes someone pissed in my cheerios!

I love Futurama! Nice play good sir!
Sent from my CM9'ed Epic4g! Wanna fight about it?
I love the original Epic and as long as it doesn't break, I could wait for the Epic 2. I thought I would be over the slider keyboard by now, but I'm really not and I know my wife will want to stay with the slider after her Epic needs replacement.
