Better news from Asus of UK Transformer Supplies ? - Eee Pad Transformer General

Asus UK have published a Press Release with more information on supplies of the Transformer in the UK
http://asus.co.uk/pr/press-release/stock-availability-update/
They say that the delays have been caused by "a number of additional testing procedures for the Eee Pad Transformer to ensure an unrivalled user-experience" but that they "are now due to receive a significant quantity of both Eee Pad Transformers and keyboard docks at the end of April/early May (exact date will depend on customs clearance and freight forwarding to our retailers)"
Hopefully that should mean that Amazon etc will be shipping well in advance of the 1st June date they are currently lists and also that people who've ordered the keyboard direct from Asus won't have to wait too long for it.
The reference to "additional testing" is strange and I wonder if they've delayed the shipment in order to ensure it ships with the updated firmware we're expecting RSN.
And it does look like Asus are pleasantly surprised with how well the Transformer has done in initial sales, which bodes well for ongoing support from Asus as well as the honeycomb platform in general.

"We anticipate the additional stock being distributed amongst Comet, PC World, Currys and Carphone Warehouse stores late April/early May, whilst Amazon.co.uk and Ebuyer.com are also taking pre-orders."
As far as I can tell Comet currently have stock available for sale even without receiving new units. Selfishly all I care about is Amazon (since they ship outside of the UK) and ASUS explicitly say they are not giving them any stock.

Well I ordered online from comet and have a delivery date of 28/04. Fingers crossed as the keyboard for 50 quid deal requires registering by 29/04

Yes, I am awaiting an exchange on my orginal one by comet.
They were scheduled to exchange Thursday 21st but have now called to say they will exchange it on the 29th.
Whilst on the phone I was told stock would be coming into the UK this weekend (Sat 23rd / Sun 24th) and delivered to comet on the 27th for possible delivery on 28th or 29th.

Very uncool! They release an update for UK's delay but none for US release.

Not sure I put much faith in a Facebook comment when it seems to contradict a press release. If they meant Amazon are getting stock then they put a lot of work into misleading me. That said it did seem a little strange mentioning Amazon if they were getting no stock.

posted just a few minutes ago on ASUS uk FB page
ASUS UK Amazon.co.uk should have stock earlier than June - once we have confirmed exact date they will update their system.

I originally ordered from Comet and delivery was scheduled for the 28th but was told by somoene else that bestbuy has a few so I cancelled my comet order and now I have one due to arrive on Wednesday via bestbuy

i emailed them today as i don't get mine until 28th .Sent a copy of the order and they said even if delayed i will not miss out they have kept my record on file and i need to email them the serial number when i get it

I just hope that this stock news means those who ordered the keyboard as part of the keyboard promotion (ie. me ) won't have to wait too long to get their hands on one!

I was on a plane once that was just getting ready to take off when the pilot got on the intercom and announced a delay due to a part being replaced. I was happy with the delay, of course--rather that than the part not be replaced.
If Asus found some serious bug (or hardware flaw) and decided to slow things down to get it fixed, then good for them. It means what we'll end up getting will be that much better.
Can't wait...

Changes on the Clove website

Clove have removed the expected delivery date for the Venue Pro and instead just have a means of registering your email address to be notified of when it becomes available.
They also seem to have removed all the specs.
This doesn't bode well - any thoughts?
Just spoke with Clove. It seems the availability of the phones is being delayed - 'possibly until next year'. Further info will be sent out by email, they tell me.
I'm starting to feel slightly better that I decided to go for HD7 in the end
Am wondering if it's worthwhile jumping ship to Expansys, they're cheaper anyway as the postage is free.
I like that Clove is accepting Paypal unlike Expansys... Still would be good to know if both are expecting a delay.
I called Expansys, they said they are expecting 250 Venue Pros on the 16th and currently there are 80 pre-orders, so there's going to be plenty of stock to go round.
I just cancelled my Clove order and ordered with Expansys instead, saving myself about £6 in postage into the bargain.
Expansys seemed a lot more confident of delivery than Clove.
News from Clove
Dear ...,
Thank you for ordering a Dell Venue Pro, it is appreciated.
We do today, however, have some important news. We have been informed that the
first stock of the Dell Venue Pro to arrive in the UK has been delayed until
January, due to a supply issue with components.
This is a problem that is plaguing many other manufacturers too, so Dell is not
alone. We appreciate it does not ease the situation, but reconfirms the issue
globally.
In addition there has been some confusion over the on board memory and microSD slot
on the Dell Venue Pro. Despite being told earlier that it will have a microSD slot,
it has been confirmed that the stock set to arrive in January will have NO microSD
slot, but will have 8GB of internal memory.
We are very frustrated by the delay and change in specification but pass this
information to you at the earliest opportunity.
Unless we hear otherwise from you, we shall now hold your order until the stock
arrives and ship it when it does become available.
We thank you for your custom and understanding.
The Clove Technology Sales Team.
That really sucks.
No such gloomy news from Expansys though, but then they are further up the pecking order than Clove...

I talked to a Dell agent, they have no information. That's again ridiculous.
Also I asked if a US VP would work in the UK and they said I need to ask Dell US .
Well if we do have to wait until January, at least by then the Cut 'n' Paste update will already be out, possibly with a bunch of other updates and fixes. Which may save us a couple of months of pain.
I jsut got email from clove say fist shipment has been delayed until january.
Any news from expansys? They seem to be adamant on their shipment dates next week...
I emailed eXpansys, seems they're saying it'll be delayed too now.

Delay

Aww just got delayed I believe for shipping. Ordered on the 14th and got the email
Dear Customer
Greetings from Notion Ink!
We would like to inform you that we have started shipping your device from the 4th of March and will be dispatching them in batches until the 14th of March.
Please note that as a standard procedure, after the devices are dispatched from our factory, it takes upto 48 hours for transportation to the port, customs clearance before the shipments can be forwarded to international destinations.
You will be able to use your order number to track your Adam once our logistics partners process your order for dispatch. They will contact you about the same once this has been done.
We really appreciate your patience in this matter and we will keep you updated about the process.
I got it too. I ordered on the 10th.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App

I ordered on the 9th and just got the same email. Kind of B.S. since I've been reading reports of people ordering the 9th and receiving shipping confirmations as early as the 5th. 15 months of waiting for this thing, another week can't be that bad, but damn it sucks...

WOW thats good 14th feb order shipped. I checked after seeing that and I also got shipment under process. Thanks for the up.
Don't be fooled by the "Shipment under process" - this does NOT mean your Adam has shipped. Until you have a TNT tracking number - assume it hasn't.
Now, I really don't want to call NI liars, without having the full information, but the reality is that the spreadsheet created by NIA members contains 800+ entries for PO2 orders. NI said that they are shipping in batches "every day, until 14/Mar". But the spreadsheets have NOT been updated at that rate - there's still only 120 entries that have shipped.
One might say, that relying on spreadsheet data is not a good idea, because data gets stale and not updated, etc. But the fact is, scine ESD changed to "Shipment under process", 170 people have already update their entries in two days - hence, I assume that any other change would have been recorded as quickly - or at least there would be some signs that there is at least ONE extra item shipped. This leads me to conclusion that Adams were NOT shipped in batches "every day".
As for the current status not meaning that it's "shipped" - well, for one it doesn't say "shipped", but there's also the case that it changed around the same time (weekday+time) as the ESD changed 25/Feb-10/Mar -> 3/Mar-10/Mar which, given all the other unclear communication history from NI, makes me suspect that this change is an automated change.
Once again, repeat after me: the order is NOT shipped until you have a TNT tracking number.
Hey guys!
I just wanted to celebrate the 1 month anniversary of my notion ink adam with you all.
1 month ordering anniversary that is
PO3? Future, cancellations, iPad2 or any other alternative Tablet, consider this..
Seriousness to consider, if they haven't already shipped, or at least aren't already built in the factory, delays could be worse.
With recent events in Japan, maker of many IC chips used in most electronics, production has been affected.
If they don't already have everything to assemble current Adams, indefinite delays are to come.
Those waiting to order an Adam after PO2, may have a long wait if they don't already have them assembled or ready to assemble.
This delay will affect even iPad2 and other tablets/devices, prices may even sky rocket.
-CC
Bah, I'm really hoping they are on their way soon. However, I won't be surprised either way : /
See it's that we are not understanding how time is calculated..
When they said in the email 48 hours from the 14th, they meant divided into 8 hour work days.. So that is roughly 6 working days +/+
Perhaps next week..

EDIT: [10:28] <Tachyon1> clockcycle|awy: unless you ask again, in which case it will be "In 48 hrs" again.

The delay is more likely on Pixel Qi's part. And, divining from their website (www-dot-pixelqi-dot-com/), Pixel Qi's manufacturing facility is in Taipei. Thus, it is likely NOT affected (directly.) I really think that NI has all the parts, EXCEPT FOR the PQi screens.
Just my opinion, based on reviewing the spreadsheet OFFICIAL Mirrors:

2: tiny-dot-cc/NI-tracker-nih

XOOM in the UK

I have been checking the carphone warehouse site religiously. Everywhere claims they have pre-order, which sure, the page is there, but now button to preorder.
Anyway, I have just noticed today that the "out of stock" has changed to "in-stock" and the "expected early april" has changed to "for delivery mid-april".
This looks hopeful, but I'm the kind that was born without and never learned patience, I really hope I don't have to wait until mid-april.
Still, promising news of us getting it some time soon.
Just to spark some potential conversation, I fully intend to get the 3G version since I think a Wifi tablet is a waste of time, if you can't access the internet on the go, what's the point?
I'm an Android Developer by profession so I use my Tabs and Phones all hours of the day in all manner of places. I can't wait till the London underground gets 3G, I'll take a trip there just to sit on a circular tube line with my XOOM
Hi,
PcWorld still have it for availability on the 9-4-11 for the wifi version so here is hoping, getting feed up of waiting now

alias_neo, you can preorder by clicking the ad on the carphone warehouse front page, then 'view deals'.
Now this is where the 'add to basket' didn't show up for me in firefox! It said 'Out of stock - Back order' but there was no means to actually buy. I opened it in IE (yuck) and the 'add to basket' button was there.
I also got the email saying delivery is expected on 19th April

if indeed they are expecting the XOOM in the mid of april, might as well wait for another few weeks till the google IO where rumours that they will be abnnouncing a similar to Nexus line of tablet. a pure google dev device.

No point, the XOOM is as good as a dev tablet. It's a comes with Google device so no mods, it will get the updates.
Unless something that can prove it's better comes out within a couple of weeks I'll be getting this for my development and general entertainment, I just don't have the patience to keep waiting.

it will get the updates, but most likely from either modders/hackers or officially from motorola. not from google.
look at it as a Motorola Droid, the first experience device for android.
not quite a dev device.
i was hoping it to be something like the the t-mobile G1, or the HTC magic where they make it a official dev device... but again, i might be wrong.

Did the Droid have a locked bootloader?
I just saw this on Engadget: HERE
That the XOOM will finally be launched here in the UK next week. I swear, if they only release the Wifi version next week XOOM is going bye-bye and I'm spending the cash on a box of Cohiba Esplendido. I just don't have this kind of patience.
Any the rumour mongering alongside the negative user reviews is starting to put me off the device. I'm an Android dev in my day job, I want a dev device, not another Galaxy Tab like I'm stuck with now.

How likely is this? I'm interested for the same reason I got my N1, updates from Google directly rather than via a 3rd party. The Xoom is the tablet version of the Droid imho.

[INFO] Another Delay from Comet

I have ordered the Asus Transformer on 13/4, and really looking forward to receive it on 21st as i have booked a slot on that day..
however the Comet rang me just before telling me that the transformer will be delayed AGAIN and won't get mine before 9th May! i was quite shocked and kinda disappointed with that (though i understood the supplies...) as i have pre-ordered it for so long and they told me there were stock available for me at the beginning.
Now i am holding a Xoom, but i will have to return it in 21 days if I have made up my mind on picking one of them, arghhh asus really fuc*ed me up

Asus have failed to supply the number of Transformers that were expecting.
They also have no idea of when the keyboard will be coming into stock.

They did that to me to. I phoned them and they have rescheduled the delivery to 3rd of May.
I had one on preorder from amazon from the 4th of April. They then bumped delviery to the 1st of June. The moment I got the email about the amazon delay I checked comet which said they had them in stock.
So I placed an order with Comet around the 12th of April. They took my money straight away and scheduled delivery for the 21st.
Had a phone call yesterday telling me they can no longer deliver on this date. Now I am sorry but to take my money and hold onto it for a week is disgusting if they dont have physical stock. my order was not a pre-order but a sale. I asked for an immediate refund and told them of their shocking behaviour.
I have always hated bying anything from DSG or comet stores and this just proves why. never again!!!
Good job I kept my pre-oder with amazon I am happy to wait until June now.
Comet sucks ass!!!
ebuyer still taking pre orders with 77 still available from 22nd april
just ordered one from laskys, claimed to be delivered on 26th.
with a quidco voucher code u would only need to pay 360.99
At the time of posting this. Ebuyer says that they have 40 in stock for next day delivery.

[INFO] Screwed over by the Eee Pad launch - Sign In Thread

So, I've been lied to by Asus' chosen retailers, and I've seen people who placed orders after me receive tracking numbers, while my own shipments are indefinitely backordered. It seems I'm not alone in that.
I have no choice but to cancel my orders in a week from now, because I'll be out of the country with my family for two weeks, and nobody will be around to collect deliveries. Given that the 48 hours we'll be spending in airports and airplanes was one of the key reasons I decided to buy the Transformer now rather than waiting for something better, I almost certainly won't be buying one on my return -- once my orders are cancelled, it's game over for Asus.
I was utterly disgusted to see that instead of apologizing for the inconvenience, or giving even vague information as to when they'll be providing more stock, Asus had the audacity to post about how we "love" them on their Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/notes/asus...mer-sold-out-in-north-america/194700557240017
There's plenty of info in the US retail availability thread, but it's hidden in 400 pages of posts. Hence, I thought it might be a good idea to collect together all of the unhappy, would-be customers who've been lied to and mistreated by Asus' launch partners in one place, where Asus can see that love is not an emotion we're feeling right now, and that we're extremely unhappy about how we've been treated.
Air your grievances here. Have you been lied to? Have you been passed over for shipments by retailers, when those who ordered after you are receiving their tablets?
Tell Asus exactly how you feel. If you have plans to cancel your order after a certain date, let us know when. And if the way you've been treated by their retailers has persuaded you not to do business with them or Asus again, don't be shy about saying so.
Personally, Asus has 7 days to get my tablet to a retailer who will actually ship it to me. If they don't, I won't be buying an Asus product, ever again.
I placed my order around 3AM with amazon, as of now, still no activity on the order... while people who ordered after me got it.
I think it may have to do with the fact that my order showed up as coming from Target.com/ITC or something but now its showing amazon LLC.
Then I placed order with Datavision, who over sold and have gotten the money back.
Then I placed order with TigerDirect and they, it seems over sold as well and have been hearing and reading lies from them since yesterday.
Asus screwed up big time!
So you're blaming Asus? Awesome. Doesn't sound like you've been an early adopter before.
You aren't alone Knox; I ordered mine at the same time as you did. I'm pretty sure we were chatting in the IRC room while we were waiting for it to get released.
I talked to an Amazon rep yesterday who guaranteed me the product would arrive on the estimated delivery date. I talked to another one today after the shipping info wasn't updated and that rep basically stated the previous rep lied to me and that I would not be receiving my product as expected.
I'm throughly upset because I could have ordered it from another retailer at the time and received my TF tomorrow or Friday.
I'm not sure if I'm going to cancel now and get the Acer or wait a week to see if I actually get the TF.

Asus didn't provide sufficient supply for the launch, have provided no information on when more stock is expected, tried to spread what tiny stock they had across too many retailers, didn't require their retailers to sell first-come first-served, and failed to supply *any* accessories or 32GB tablets at all.
I'd say they shoulder a very large part of the blame.

Actually, I'm not. I'm British. And raised in Asia. But feel free to throw around childish stereotypes in any other thread you like, just not this one, please.

this alone makes me believe you are crying over spilt milk.
its a early launch. supplies are limited. all asus did was supply the product to retailers. how the retailers handle it is their business not asus's. if you're that hardcore about raging over the retailers that you wont buy another asus product, you have issues.
To be quite honest, I'm sure that ASUS has given away more free tablets to reviewers, contests (both twitter and facebook), college student "representatives", etc. than they sold... how exactly are they making money on these tablets? LOL
Have you even read the engadget post? it clearly states it's unknown whether it's because of limited supplies or huge demand or both.
Asus had already said there would be limited supplies in a statement, and the point still stands, if they had built up stock first you still wouldn't have it now since it wouldn't have been released for a while.
In essence you're just sour grapes because some people got one of the limited supplies and you didn't. And if you can't have it no one can have it.

If you read my entire post, you would see I have no choice but to cancel my order in 7 days, because there will be nobody in the country to receive shipments.

Yup, and each of those came with a dock, while they haven't sold a single dock in the entire US market.
i bet you will be buying another asus product because they make many components for other companies
I think the main problem was the race to launch first, certainly in the UK. In the US the Xoom has been out for a while, which is why I think Asus wanted to concentrate more on the UK (makes a nice change!) so that they could pip Motorola to the post with the UK launch. The Xoom was originally set to come out on the 9th April, and at the last minute Asus managed to get a limited number of units out to uk shops around the 6th, although I didn't discover this until after that date.
Truth is that I would have bought the first tegra2 tablet that came out in the UK, and I had been waiting (mistakenly) for the xoom on the 9th. On that day I got out of bed, went down to PC World and tried to get one, only to be told they had been delayed until middle of June. A couple of days later after reading more about the transformer I found out a local Comet had one in stock so I bought it. A few days later I noticed PC world had the Xoom in.
My point of this very long story is that this is just happening this time round with this set of tablets because the manufacturers are rushing to get their tablets out to the masses and be first. I think everything will settle down soon and people won't feel 'lied' to once the availability is sorted out. Asus could have given a more solid date, granted, but like seshmaru said, if they'd held on to stocks until they'd had enough to go round, then nobody would currently have one.
You can't really blame Asus for the retailer's actions. If Asus hadn't given them a solid date or numbers of shipments expected, then the retailers shouldn't really be advertising the product for sale, or should at least inform the customer they aren't definite dates. They only make the things, without having their own entire distribution arm like Apple, they can't control what retailers do!
Still sucks for you man going on holiday! I've been there, waiting for gadgets to come before a trip away and they haven't arrived, it's not fun!
Think on the positive side man, if the only reason you bought this was to use for a trip, then buy yourself a good book instead, and bam! Saved yourself £400! I'd invest that money into training a monkey butler.

Who else is responsible for this fiasco?
It's not like they didn't see this coming after they botched the UK launch.
AT LEAST a few folks in the UK got the keyboard docks - from everything I've seen in the US "launch", no one received a keyboard dock.
So yes, Asus, how do you "launch" a product with such insufficient stock - and with ZERO keyboard docks - which btw is the PRIMARY feature that sets your "Transformer" apart from other tablets?
There would be a lot more happy customers if, following the UK debacle, Asus *announced* that the US launch would happen in May - or June - or whatever it takes to actually have an ample supply on on hand - and oh yeah KEYBOARDS too!

Forgot to add, ASUS is the one that announced the launch on 4/26 - with a list of retailers on their own page. Yet several of those retailers (sears.com, staples.com, officemax.com, officedepot.com etc) NEVER even received stock.
How do you announce a launch date - and retailers - but don't supply those retailers with any units?
Yes, in my opinion, that falls on Asus.
I think blaming the retailer and the supplier can be split into two separate debates.
The retailer, reseller, gougers, etc; that is just the nature of the business. How they handle their customer is independent to each store and that is where your money speaks loudest.
Amazon I feel did an amazing job. Their order system processed all orders with no crashes up until they were sold out. Once sold out, they site updated to backorder. When you place an order, you assume the risk of delays and backorders. How heavy handed you want to be on a company is up to you but does not change the fact that when you make a purchase, you play by their rules.
As for ASUS, I think they did a terrible job. They put one posting of low quantity on facebook for UK. Then for US post, they have a huge banner that says "On shelves on 4/26". There was not a single item on any retailer's shelves. There were no communication with their retailers to give them constant updates on status. They release the Keyboard Dock but have absolutely no availability. Communication was terrible to their customer and their retailer which are their customers as well.
ASUS needs to get their act together if they want to attempt to compete with Apple. Hell, even a multibillion dollar company like Apple makes mistakes, but they sure know how to launch a product and connect with their consumers and retailers (strict pricing, etc).

"I can't get one so no one should get one"
btw UK launchdate didn't have the dock either, and the dock is an accessory, accessories are released at a later date more often.
If they had waited the Iconia a500 would possibly have gained momentum, (which it didn't, but it could've) this is the best strategy for Asus seeing as demand is far exceeding the supply, it's been a raging success for them. Besides they promised a Q1 launch around march last year, at least they stuck to their word without any launch delays.
