XOOM in the UK - Xoom General

I have been checking the carphone warehouse site religiously. Everywhere claims they have pre-order, which sure, the page is there, but now button to preorder.
Anyway, I have just noticed today that the "out of stock" has changed to "in-stock" and the "expected early april" has changed to "for delivery mid-april".
This looks hopeful, but I'm the kind that was born without and never learned patience, I really hope I don't have to wait until mid-april.
Still, promising news of us getting it some time soon.
Just to spark some potential conversation, I fully intend to get the 3G version since I think a Wifi tablet is a waste of time, if you can't access the internet on the go, what's the point?
I'm an Android Developer by profession so I use my Tabs and Phones all hours of the day in all manner of places. I can't wait till the London underground gets 3G, I'll take a trip there just to sit on a circular tube line with my XOOM

Hi,
PcWorld still have it for availability on the 9-4-11 for the wifi version so here is hoping, getting feed up of waiting now
Steve

Yikes, that's pretty much the end of April. How did you manage to pre-order? Website has nothing, and I tried the 3 stores in town, not one of them had a clue, half of the staff had never even heard of it.

alias_neo, you can preorder by clicking the ad on the carphone warehouse front page, then 'view deals'.
Now this is where the 'add to basket' didn't show up for me in firefox! It said 'Out of stock - Back order' but there was no means to actually buy. I opened it in IE (yuck) and the 'add to basket' button was there.
I also got the email saying delivery is expected on 19th April

Ahhh! I'v never used IE a day in my life, no wonder I couldn't find the button, bit of a flaw for Firefox users not to be able to buy it.

I got the Verizon version in the States last week works a treat over here (wifi only ofc) i could not wait for release over here...LOL

if indeed they are expecting the XOOM in the mid of april, might as well wait for another few weeks till the google IO where rumours that they will be abnnouncing a similar to Nexus line of tablet. a pure google dev device.
i have pre-ordered mine as well, but tempted to cancel it after i heard that google might come out with a dev tablet.

No point, the XOOM is as good as a dev tablet. It's a comes with Google device so no mods, it will get the updates.
Unless something that can prove it's better comes out within a couple of weeks I'll be getting this for my development and general entertainment, I just don't have the patience to keep waiting.

it will get the updates, but most likely from either modders/hackers or officially from motorola. not from google.
look at it as a Motorola Droid, the first experience device for android.
not quite a dev device.
i was hoping it to be something like the the t-mobile G1, or the HTC magic where they make it a official dev device... but again, i might be wrong.
just another point. can't seems to find any information or download link of 99b3b5f5dcde.signed-trygon-HRI66-from-HRI39.00b3b5f5.zip that comes from google.
the file that floats around just seems to be the cached one.

Did the Droid have a locked bootloader?
I just saw this on Engadget: HERE
That the XOOM will finally be launched here in the UK next week. I swear, if they only release the Wifi version next week XOOM is going bye-bye and I'm spending the cash on a box of Cohiba Esplendido. I just don't have this kind of patience.
Any the rumour mongering alongside the negative user reviews is starting to put me off the device. I'm an Android dev in my day job, I want a dev device, not another Galaxy Tab like I'm stuck with now.

How likely is this? I'm interested for the same reason I got my N1, updates from Google directly rather than via a 3rd party. The Xoom is the tablet version of the Droid imho.

I cannot wait next week to cam! BUT! Something is holding me back, just from my experience the first product from manufacture is always suffer from bad design….. I think I will wait Samsung 10.1….. grrr I’m confused

US T-Mobile - What details are you being told in the store about the HD2?

I'm just curious what details you guys (in US) are being told when you visit the store and ask about HD2.
I dropped in today and I was today there was no demo unit in the store and probably none in the other (5) stores in the area. The guy said it would show up next week and then he checked his BB and said it would be on the 20th/Saturday. I didn't mention to him about the 24th since they seemed busy and I didn't want to take up his time.
wait until tomorrow.... they are gonna have some sort of an announcement on the 16th...and apparently all the media ppl are invited so .... definitely tomorrow they will have a working demo of the phone....

I was referring to the release date for sale at T-Mobile of the HD2. Not about WP7s.
http://www.tmonews.com/ has the picture of the actual T-Mobile sign for pricing. So that's pretty official now.
$449.99 or $199.99 with 2yr contract.

Good luck! Tmo reps have the final training seminar done by now. That means devices are rrady to go. Just need a release date.
The launch event in metro atlanta was last week.
HTC had a launch event last week for the HD2 and everyone that attended got an HD2. I covered my manager's shift because he was going, I was a little jealous when he came in with one. If you are lucky there are a few employees who have the phone now, but the stores did not have working demo units. My store just got our dummy display model. Usually live demo phones show up about a week before launch. The 24th release date looks to be official but they have not updated the systems yet (still showing TBA) but there is a big media event 3/16.

A rep I talked to today told me 22nd.
Jerks for jerking me around.
It's up on their web site now http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Cell-Phone-Detail.aspx?cell-phone=HTC-HD2 Coming soon!
keep your mony guys go for android or wait for the htc supersonic
I stopped by a tmob store two weeks ago to ask about the hd2 and was suprized when two of the employees already had them. They told me they were not suppose to show anyone until the release date was set, but let me play around with one. It is the most solid phone I have ever held. Since I have been following this phone before it had the hd2 name, most things were not a suprize. It is big, sleek, runs smooth, and has a great screen. He told me 24th and 199 price with contract. Also he told me that there were MS employees at their meeting and that they had brought up wmp7s and MS said it was a no for the hd2 due to 3 button issue.
Another thing I saw, rumors of 23rd from a mobitv tweet, and then people saying that was the day it was going active. The rep showed me the mobitv on the phone and it was already working.
This is such a hardware powerhouse, I cannot pass it up, even though I have become a die hard android fan. I have faith in XDA for android and wmp7s roms/boots/ports and its not like the sense UI with wm 6.5 is that much of a slouch.

It's been up since last week. I keep refreshing the page hoping the words "Coming Soon" change to "Add to Cart" LOL.
Last Friday, the 12th.
We were in a store in Plano.....where Frito's are born.
Near Dallas. Paying our bill and I got to talking
to the rep about the phone and he opens up
the drawer and lo and behold! there it is!!
Got to handle it and, even though the screen is huge
it really fits in you hand well...Probably due to how
thin it is...Cannot get over how Transformers looked
on the screen...Blows even my iphone away!!
My fiance, who is stil using a BB curve wants one also now.
Good thing I got a good tax return...lol
I'm going to be waiting outside the store on the 24th.
It will feel to me like waiting for the toy store to open...!
Shame about the T-Mobile logo stamped on the phone...

Confirmed from Clove: DHD releases end of Oct

Well, Clove apparently have sent email about the delay of DHD release till the end of the month, and said all sellers will face the same problem due to Google Testing (which I have no idea what is the point). Anyways, everyone should start to STOP waiting as things will be better when you least expect them, agree?

Absolutely. Of course we're all looking forward to receiving our new Desire's of the HD form factor... but the wait is almost quite exciting - just keep checking those email inboxes for 'Your Order Has Been Dispatched!'
Not to mention I have come to the conclusion that I have far more important things going on in my life... like 'life' itself.
It'll arrive within 26 days, we know that much at least!
I'm waiting for amazon to confirm it and so far they have denied it.
So hope is still alive

Clove is far more likely to be right about this than amazon. Sorry
I spoke to someone at Vodafone this morning, and they haven't heard of any delay.
It's possible the rumours that the carriers are getting them first is true. For the sake of 5 days or so I'd rather wait for the Sim-Free handset I'll get rather than the branded version from Vodafone.

True. If I get one via Carphone Warehouse, it should be unbranded shouldn't it? Really don't want a branded phone.
If carriers are getting the phones before sim unlocked ones are out, then that's still good news because we'll have users here who can give us their impressions. All i want is someone here who can answer all our questions and doubts about the phone.
My provider delayed the phone till the 22nd of october. It was the 18th.
Confirmation from Superetrader
Just got this e-mail from superetrader saying that the DHD will be delay until mid to end of the month.

lol vodafone branding doesn't mean its locked just has some branded software installed, and a bit of rooting can fix that!
Carriers have usually got the phones first, not sure if this was the plan all along. Looks like the DHD with Vodafone will be the awesome black one. Any chance of these being unbranded/full of junkware? Would love to pick one up after seeing a few reviews..

Based on what? I've been a phone freak for years and i've never heard of them. Amazon are the biggest online retailer in the world and indeed they posted the HD on there site BEFORE it was announced. So sorry, but I'd trust Amazon over a site i've not heard of.
No one else has heard of a delay and none of the gadget/Andriod blogs are reporting one either. Play have jumped the date by a week. But other than that there is no news of a delay (even Google News aren't reporting one)
Added to which most of us had never even heard of "Google testing" until yesterday. Anyway whats to test? the hardware is pretty much the EVO and the software (although slightly updated is the same as the Desire)

I hate to ask this, but how on earth can a mobile like the Desire HD fail Type Approval testing?
Do people here even know what Type Approval Testing is?
Surely, when designing the phone, they would try to meet the specs, and Type Approval would be given pretty easily...
I'm not one to fuel this kind of bullcrap topics, but if the reason given is "type approval", you can be sure they are making "regular"/detalic customers gobble up quite another load of bull****, betting on consumers' lack of knowledge (about the slang).
In the case of cellular technologies/GSM/3GPP, FCC certification is responsible for the TA.
Unless the acronym TA was misintrepreted, it would rather be Telecommunications Approval, but then again, this doesn't change anything. It's still FCC.
This has NOT A SINGLE DAMN thing to do with Google.
Type Approval simply means, has it met the required specs that are set out. There is a safety/min spec etc that it has to meet.
They wouldn't be doing that days before release. No way. Let's just take it as follows:
htcsense.com isn't ready yet. That makes a LOT more sense, than the phone hasn't passed a test.
BTW, expansys still have eta stock date to the oc 19...

Called BB today for some info...

The salesguy told me that pre-ordering will start on Feb. 20 and that the actual launch day has yet to be confirmed because "google is still doing last minute tweaks to Honeycomb." They're hoping for February 27th.
Also, he said he is unaware of the wifi-only model--I assume he means when it will be released since we have confirmation that one does exist.
Any finally, most interesting, is that if you buy a 3G version, in order to upgrade it to 4G, Motorola will be sending you an empty box to ship the xoom back to them so they can make the upgrade. They are promising a one week turn-around.
This guy may be ill-informed but he sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Just an FYI to the community.
BTW: I live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL (called local BB)
The 4G upgrade is software based and we'll get it OTA.
I would think that the Xooms are already boxed up sitting in a warehouse. However, I really dont know how quick they can go from the production line to shipping to the stores... but it may be possible to so that within a few days.
I hope its not pushed back, but I'd rather have a good experience out of the box then wait 2-3 weeks for an OTA patch.

no the guy was right, the xoom comes with a evdo radio only. they have to add the lte radio in there but its at no cost. their probably is an ota for 4g but its not the only requirement. im ready to pick one up my self but if it comes with better experience for me later then i can wait.

I was thinking it was some chip to replace, then I stumbled on another tech site that simply stated it was a software patch.
Sending the Xoom to MOTO for chip replacement is going to cost MOTO 100's of thousands of dollars; i dont get it. Unless we have to pay for shipping.
If sending it in is a requirement I think they need to disclose that in advance. If I was buying one and the LTE upgrade was a factor, I wouldn't want to have to send it in to be upgraded and be without it for a week or more.
Think I'll wait longer for the WiFi model than deal with that.
I could have sworn that they said the LTE update would be OTA during CES, but I admit, I could be wrong.

http://www.androidcentral.com/motor...ardware-upgrade-4g-software-patch-microsd-use
it wasnt the link i was looking for but i know androidcentral is also a credible source but if you search for it you will see that it needs a hardware upgrade. As for the upgrades costing motorola, they are probably already getting their cut from the price of the xoom. Sanjay said the price of the xoom is justifiable because its 4g upgradeable which might mean they already figured in the cost of 4g upgrade with original price of xoom. It sucks for us because those who arent in 4g coverage are getting charged for it but its a smart move by moto since 100% of the tablets they sell wont be all coming back.
The more I read, the more I want to wait for wifi only. I hear that Costco has a 90 day return policy. I want the tablet so bad, I may spring for one and hope the wifi model comes out b4 the 90 days...

Good point. I would have done the same thing if I was them. Probably only going to get a 40% return, if that, for the 4G upgrade. It's all just added revenue to them. And once the LTE upgrade is installed on new out-the-door units, they'll still be making a larger profit due to the higher price.
The $200 difference between WiFi and the 3G model make a lot more sense now if you've got to send it in.

Did you talk to the store manager or just sales rep? Let me know the name and I will try and dig a little more. {have several contacts in Minneapolis}
You should know that you can't trust a single thing a BB employee tells you, even if he was the store manager. Only trust that which is on an official handout. If that employee pulls out a printout like the leaked info.. then you can trust him. To test, just call the same store every 2 hours and see how often you get an employee swear by something different than another employee.
What's more annoying is when you know they have been giving info around preorder time, and they play stupid.
If Xoom will be available for pre-order this weekend, I would think they would have announced something by now. What do you guys think?

Asked them if they matched price, incase Costco is $100 cheaper, said it depends. I would think they'd match competition though...
Also, I don't recall the Atrix presale being announced officially until the day of - I'd imagine the Xoom being done the same way.
On another post, about wirefly, someone said something about Verizon starting Xoom sales on the 23, anyone else hear this?

Everyone that has come into COSTCO talking about can i get a printout of this price so someone will match it, comes back saying they didn't match it. Most business will say price match except so and so and so...one being warehouse clubs.
I called 3 BB's tonight: two of them told me they are doing pre-orders tomorrow, and the other one (the closest one to me) said they are not doing a pre-order at all.

London Galaxy Note Launch

Does anyone have any details about this launch which I understand takes place on the 27 Oct?
Go to Clove.co.uk
Check oit Clove.co.uk, they've been accepting pre-orders since 10/13/11. The buzz WAS it's release date would be November 1 - but it looks like they've done a 360 and are now stating it release could be 11/17 as originally announced.
I pre-ordered cuz of the earlier release date, they've already charged my card:, and now I don't know a damn thing!
I'm so confused

I'm not sure what they are planning to do. Would be nice with a live stream. I would love to see it and see if they are saying anything about ICS update.

Interesting .... Glonass navigation. Navigation on Russian satellites. Wonder how accurate that is.

Has Clove contacted you and said the release date is now pushed back? The site says it is "TBC".

In Soviet Russia...
It seems Clove is now saying that the release date is now "early-mid November" which is very disappointing. However, according to their Blog, anyone who accepted an invitation to confirm their order on the basis of a release date of 1 Nov can get a refund. If the original 17 Nov proves to be the actual release date then I'm not sure it is worth asking for a refund and risk not getting delivery on the 17 November or even before Xmas because you will have lost your place in the queue.

Do you think there is going to be a huge demand for this phone? I figured the price alone would hurt its sales. I haven't even put a pre-order in yet, as I figured places would have plenty of stock. What are people's thoughts on availability??
Hmmmm ........
I thought it was released already..... I know a couple ppl have them already wonder how they did that both in U K
Either way Looking to get one as soon as possible......
It's looking like mid November possibly later. Touch Wiz has to be able to handle Ice Cream (rumor.)
The release date still hasn't been confirmed. I have pre-ordered from expansys which says could be available on 28th. That's the next day of Samsung's 27th announcement.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
Third party vendors on the german amazon claim to already have it in stock. However my "original" amazon will be delivered in "1 to 3 weeks".

Hm, I was thinking that too - in about a month this device will sell at least 20% below release date prices. By that time there would be reliable root and a decent Touchwiz ROM. An AOSP ICS ROM will also likely appear before the end of November.
Problem is, demand is going to pick up with the Christmas shopping madness, so prices will not be dropping as fast in December.
I will probably get myself one of tthese Notes towards the end of Jan. - the usual retail capitulation time of year. Will not pay over 400 euro for a smartphone - even 400 is ridiculous.
By that time I guess it's going to be clear if you guys early adopters like it.
Here is a site giving more details of the London Launch.

I don't think the device will drop 20% in 2 month. I took a look at SGSII, the price is still high, dropped 100 EUR in a year. Note might not sell the same number of phones, so you might be right, but phones don't lose value until around 4-6 months.(Unless Samsung announce: NO ICS FOR NOTE ) aftar that you et it for free
Is it me or do amazon have it in stock already?
here is the link and tell me what you think:

It is not being sold by Amazon UK, but by a third party dealer called Soteluk who are located in Germany and who are quoting a delivery date of 3-18 business days, so not necessarily an earlier delivery than UK based retailers such as Clove.

Historically, when do samsung preorders ship?

I ordered a s7 edge through verizon but I have an issue with the delivery date. They are saying they should hit the stores March 11, but I will be in Texas for my Sister in laws wedding from March 9th until the 12th. So the issue is should I keep my delivery for my home in Colorado or have it sent to Texas.
Do the preorders usually go out early? I would think it would only be fair if people who pre-ordered to get it before people can get it at the stores.
Well for T-Mobile USA they sent the S6 a week early for some users. Verizon tends to be on the dot maybe a day early in most cases.
Anyone know how BestBuy handles pre-orders for online shipping?
IIRC, I pre-ordered the s6 edge last year from Verizon (online) and it came 1 day before the release date.
Follow my preorder thread in the discussion threads, I'll update it as soon as any news about early devices being shipped pops. Verified news, not he/she says.
Last year tmo sent devices a week early so I'd imagine the same again regardless.
Thanks for the input! I think I will just have it sent there in hopes that it will be there a little early. They can ship it to me if it gets there late. Man would that drive me crazy though.
I hate that you have to wait until you get your phone to sign up for the VR gear. They said they have limited supply. Since it is going to other countries and carriers first I should hope there will be some left if I get mine a day late or something. One of the main reasons I ordered it was for the VR gear and I would be super ticked if they ran out!

I am a little bothered by this article saying there will only be 300,000 VR units given in the US. I wonder how many pre orders there will be. I think you receive a VR gear based off of what number you are in the pre order list, not whenever you happened to get your phone. If you get yours late, you might miss your shot. But the way they are advertising it makes it seem like nearly everyone will get one. I hope that is the case.

I'm sure there will be a lot of cancellations if this is the case.
My AT&T preorder says shipping on the 7th to arrive on the 8th. Many sites are reporting preorders will be out 3 days early from the official launch on the 11th.
I just talked to 2 verizon reps and the first one said the phone should arrive on the 11th, and the other checked with her manager and said it would ship out on the eleventh and not arrive until the 14th. To me it makes no sense that the people who preordered will get there phone 2 days after the phone comes out in the store.
I am not throwing any fits because it is unfair, but this is a issue for me because I don't know where to have the phone shipped. And like my earlier post said, it seems that they are only giving out around 300,000 VR Gears, so if I am a couple days late getting it, I may lose my chance at getting the VR gear. ?

That's incorrect. You can input your invoice that you purchased a device starting March 3rd on Samsungs website, I forgot where I found this information but if I remember I'll link it

Please do let me know! I keep hearing that you need your phone to do it. My receipt from Verizon does not have any info about the phone other than what it is, and the pre order number.

This makes it seem like you will need your phone. I sure hope there are plenty of VR units to go out to all the preorders. If not, there may be a lot of angry people.

I pre-ordered from Best Buy so they will ship the VR with the phone. Also getting a free 64gb SD card.
My S6 edge was delivered on March 30th (T-Mobile), and (I think) the release date was somewhere around April 10th. So, don't be too surprised if you get a shipped confirmation email in the next week or so.
Also plan on getting mine through BestBuy. Seems like less of a hassle than waiting "4-6" weeks for the GearVR to come in.
That does sound nice, but I didn't really want to fork out 300 and be stuck in a contract. I might contact samsung and verizon and try to get some assurance that there will be enough to go around. Otherwise, I might cancel and hold out to see what the V10 sequel has in store.

That link actually proves that you need the IMEI and WiFi address.
First, they mention in the text on that page that you need to fill out the form and submit a receipt. That doesn't say what info is required for the form so it does not suffice as a counter-example, nor any evidence that the receipt is the only information you need.
Secondly, that page provides a link to the actual terms and clicking through you can see that the section on submitting the claim explicitly lists the IMEI number (3.b.iii) and the WiFi MAC address (3.b.iv) in addition to the receipt.
So, IMEI and WiFI MAC are certainly required to claim the Gear VR...
