If you got problems with your phone take it back to sprint. insurance or not - EVO 4G General

I dont know if its just the store I go to (Kaahumanu Maui, if youre lucky enough to be here) or if its sprint policy to help the customer out. When i first got my phone in June I jacked it up starting with getting water under the screen from the retarded protector kit, and secondly messing up the root process and bricking it. I took it back and told them Norton antivirus kept asking for a password which i never did put in (really did happen) but I didnt mention it happened during the root process which screwed the whole thing up... They tested it it wouldnt get past fastboot so they Just handed me a new phone no questions asked and for $0.
Screw up two on my part. I have been trying to get hdmi working with no luck. So the genius I am decided to clean the port with a qtip soaked in alcohol. It didnt work. So I unrooted and took it back to the store. Told them the Hdmi isnt working and I dont have insurance. They check it out and see the water indicator inside the phone (right next to the hdmi port! so dont clean it with anything wet) was red, also the hdmi connections were corroded. But the tech tells me dont worry usually you would have to just buy a new phone but this is what we will do. Pay $35 now and we will say we fixed your phone, then you can add insurance as its allowed after a repair. After that they just reported that I needed a new phone haha so i got a new phone for about $50. Im cancelling the insurance after a couple months and I get the new one all rooted and set up . Hope your experience is as good as mine.

Or...just call, complain about the slow data speeds and they'll just offer to swap out your phone, since that's obviously cheaper than actually fixing their network.

I believe I have a logical explanation. I about 2 months ago, found a sprint store that would do service on my phone. While there they informed me that sprint had up until that time, (about 2 months ago) had a very loose warrenty exchange policy. The phone could have physical damage, and as long as you reported a "Warrenty Issue" they would exchange it. They tightened it up, any signs of physical damage they won't service it. If the power button area gets 2 cracks, they won't service it. It was nice of them to do that little paperwork shuffle to get you insurance. good luck!

I'm trying to sell it, but it's pretty hard to sell since you can't charge it!

Ouch!
If you have mad soldering skillz, you could try taking the phone apart, then buying a new USB jack from Mouser Electronics or DigiKey. That's assuming that HTC didn't use a proprietary connector and that the PCB wasn't damaged when the connector broke.
Otherwise, I'd say it's time to test your mad Google skillz to find a repair shop.
Maybe I can sell it here? Someone has to know how to fix it...
How exactly did this happen?
When I go to bed I charge my phone, and usually plug it in, in the dark.
I'm always worried about screwing it up so I do it very gently.
I'm the same way...
My cousin pushed the charger port in or something when I was sleeping... I woke up pissed. Went and bought a Sidekick 3, they're nice phones too.
Wow...I did the EXACT same thing ^_^ I just sent it in the Cingular customer support and they repaired it. Since they determined that it was from physical damage they made me pay for repairs but it was less than half of the full retail price so not too bad ^_^
Pocket PC Techs list USB port replacement as a standard repair for $60 (with a exception note regarding possible extensive/internal damage). You can check it out at http://www.pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~HTC_Wizard-511~area~repairs~item~REP-USBCON01.htm
That happened to mine when i dropped it off the desk with the chrging cable in, landing with full force on it.
Once you manage to get the stupid thing open (they like to make it tricky!) it's easy enough to re-solder. The pads are very close together though, so make sure none accidentally connect to their neighbour.

Volume rocker broken

Dont know how it happened. There is no physical damage so maybe htc will replace it. I wonder if i should flash my phone back to stock before i send it in, that is if the will fix it.

I'd recommend flashing back to stock before sending it in, just to be on the safe side.
I also wouldn't expect them to fix it, as they'll call it physical damage, and not a factory defect.
You might just be able to find a cheap battery cover on ebay to replace that one. It would work since the volume rocker is contained in the battery cover
yea i got lucky 2 years ago and sent my htc tilt in because the usb connector was broken. it took a few calls to find someone that would fix it for free. Hope i get lucky again.
Definitely qualifies as physical damage...
Don't send it in. Go to an ACTUAL sprint store and ask for a new battery back. Hell, if you call customer care they might even send you a new battery back, but you're guaranteed to get one in store.
No muss, no fuss, they'll just hand one over. Service & repair stores will have better odds of having one for you.
Htc support was no help and sprint was no help. Im definitely getting insurance on my next phone and beating the hell out of it and keep getting replacements. Luckily the product manager that i talked to 2 years ago on the phone still works there and sent me a spare one that he had.
Has any one else had issues with that rocker? I wouldn't be surprised if this had happened more often. It feel flimsy to me. I am always afraid Ill break it when I pull the battery.
Flexte, did you do as I told you? I simply cannot imagine that you went to an actual sprint store and they turned you away.
jesus, is the damn phone all cheap plastic? we have broke volume buttons, dust under our lcd's and paint chipping on the end buttons. id call these pretty serious defects. did htc do a rush job on these for sprint? this keeps up im looking into a more solid built phone despite loving the hero. im also on my 2nd phone becuase of the dust collection.
yea an sprint store but mostly service and repair would have given you a new battery back. i have people come in to my store couple times looking for chargers and stuff. on a side note ive had my phone since before launch goes in and out of my pocket and i alwayssss hit the end call button, and my phones in perfect condition lol.

I nominate my phone best looking phone of the month!

Yeahhh buddy!
Taken with my crappy blackberry curve replacement phone. Got a new digitizer coming in the mail though. I wasn't going to risk the GB update being applied to a new phone sent to me via insurance claim, plus the digitizer was $30 vs $100~ for a stupid claim.
Hopefully by the time my screen gets here, the kernel source will be out, OC'ed, and Kingdom will get the OC'ed kernel and absolutely rape.
Look! Sense 3.0 though!

Sprint is $100 through Insurian. But if you bug them about it. They will give you a new one, vs a refurb. Also, depends on what agent you get.

I have never been so lucky, ever. In fact I'm pretty pissed about Sprints service. I wish they had the Evo Shift on USCC and I'd switch in a heartbeat. Plus, with USCC launching their 4G network in my area, I'm definitely switching when its done, Evo Shiftlikemodel or not.
Pretty harsh damage. I've dropped mine a couple times and never done anything close. How did you manage to cause the screen to shatter like that?
Had a samsung moment, after getting out my truck I forgot it was on my lap. It didn't drop far but shattered in a similiar manner, sprint store replaced the screen and it worked perfect. Free of charge

i don't have insurance on my phone. about 2 months after i got it, the volume-down rocker broke and stopped responding. took it to sprint, they charged me $30, and and 2 business days later, i got a brand new one..
i guess my case was a bit different, as it would have probably qualified as a manufacturing defect as opposed to accidental.

Any idea how difficult it would be to get a new battery connector and fit it?
Failing that anyone want to buy it?
Sent from my HTC HD2
do you have an idea of what your looking to get for it if you can't repair it?
since you live in a different country i wouldn't know of any place that would be able to do it. i mean i know places here in the U.S. but not in Blackpool. it really needs to be done by a professional, thats why your having problems with it now because it wasn't done right the first time around. i would go online and type in cell phone repair in your browser though just to see if there are indead any places around you and ask them how much it would cost.
im only saying to go that route because i've seen so many people list stuff on ebay that they tried to fix themselves only to mess the phone up even worse then it was to begin with. ALTHOUGH if you feel like you learn well just by reading directions then maybe try and get the advise/directions you'll need here on XDA.
Call up htc and ask dir a quote for a repair.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Htc won't quote a price over the phone. I tried with two different reps before and no luck. Htc will still be able to repair it but I believe if it's only within the warranty period. Don't quote me on that though.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
If the unit is out if warranty, or they determine that the warranty is voided because of broken screen, water damage, or illegal software (android) then they will give you a price for repair and charge you a $35 diagnostic and shipping fee,
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
I've had it opened up, will the warranty not be void? And I can't flash it to stock because I can't het it on, shame its a right off because of a simple connector :-( I've got another one any ways, is it worth stripping the M/board and digitizer and selling separately?
Sent from my HTC HD2
yes it would void the warranty if its been opened before. there are small little "void" stickers covering the screws in the back and when they are removed it voids the warranty. when i sent my phone back that was one of the questions they asked me. i've bought and sold many things on ebay and in my opinion the best thing would be to sell it whole. i would point out that the battery terminal connectors are broke but other then that everything works and functions as normal. (if thats 100% true)
i bought a none working hd2 on ebay for $120..with this problem you could maybe get anywhere between $100-$165. if you strip it you might get at most $80-$115 or so on ebay. mind you that price can go all over on that site so you could get a lot more for your phone or a little less...i mean i know a cornflake in the shape of the state of Illinois sold for $1350 so hopefully you'll be able to get something worth your time. and no, thats not a typo..$1350.

Phone fell in toilet :( help me~

You know you love your phone too much when you take it with you everywhere you go...
No I wasn't taking a selfie on the toilet!
Anyway, I tried to dry it off as fast as I could but you can't open it easily and I couldn't turn it off before it started acting funny (green then blue LED alternating)
So, went online to read about what might be done about it and not sure what is legit or not.
AT&T 2yr contract purchased on launch day
No, I don't have insurance. Currently won't power on.
Any suggestions?
My plan is to buy Nexus 5 off contract or try Swappa for LG g2 though I see that Verizon has it for 450 off contract at the moment.
I really loved my G2, poor thing sitting in a bag of rice right now, lol!
(sorry about the one sentence paragraphs)
Sorry about your issue, but how is anyone to help you exactly?
Nothing much you can do. But wait and let it dry a couple of days/week. Sad thing with unremovable batteries you can't take them out, and thus minimize damage.
To my knowledge there is no insurance for this, even if the seller says everything is covered . Sorry. It sucks.
Do note that by swapping it you give someone else headaches with faulty phone.
exacly the same thing happend to me..
I dropped my phone in a bucket of water as well.... best thing to do is open it and blow dry... alot of people are against this method because of warping the internals but all you have to do is watch out to not blow dry it to much.... if ur scared of blow drying try putting it in a bag a rice for about a week if its opend even better... mine worked a day after but was acting funny for about a week.. now its been a month and the only thing that stayed messed up is the power button.. thank god for knock on or else i would have been screwed lol Good luck and have 0patience,.. it shall work again..
Ps.. dont turn it on much or u have a higher probability of shorting out your phone n it will die forever... :crying:
Put it in rice for a few days

Jokes aside, do not try turning it on just yet, just let it dry.
The alternating led simply means it has been in water not to state the obvious but there is nothing you can do because 1 its been opened 2 water damage sticker plus crossed circuit has been tripped as well so i hate to say this but brother your screwed rice is your best bet
replaced with... same model of course!
@bachera. I only meant to use swappa to buy a new phone and not to swap / sell my dead phone.
I ended up buying a used g2 from craigslist instead of a new n5. Perfect condition and all is well. I even have a new data cable that isnt chewed through by my bird so I'm glad my old phone took a dump!
Same here
