I think also disabling it is a battery saver

Wouldn't it only be activated when watching videos or pictures anyway? Can't imagine it taking too much energy when not actually needed...

From a norwegian site, Mobili.no
"This technology improves image quality when viewing movies or scroll through pictures, and are passive when navigating the main menu, write messages or doing other things that do not necessarily demand the highest image quality.
Bravia Engine is not hardware based. We are talking about software that processes your media and make sure we give them the best possible presentation on the screen.
And the image quality, there is nothing to say on. Sony Ericsson Arc delivers stunning quality, and both pictures and photos looks very good on the 4.2 inch screen.
You can however disable the Bravia from the options menu, if you prioritize battery rather than image quality."

It is only effective when viewing multimedia content. I turn it off after I found the screen itself is good enough for me.

Reason:
¤ having the advanced mobile device with full-colors screen on hand
¤ with dynamic multimedia capicities, video, sounds
¤ and what's up? static ordinary Today Screen, plain background
¤ I want to really improve the impressions
¤ I want to spice my mobile device's interface
¤ ... and surprise my friends, certainly
Purposes:
¤ display background as the live image from camera picture
¤ display highly animated content (25fps) on the top of the above background and play special sound effects
¤ display all daily necessary information on the above content: incl. calendar events, missed phone calls, received messages, weather status
¤ show this interface when the device's power turns up, and start animation
¤ probably: replace the default Today Screen

The project sounds very interesting, and possible with the WM5 camera API that should make camera access standard for all devices.
But wouldn't and app like that eat up a lot of CPU cycles, and slow down the device, especially with the OMAP units? Plus more CPU usage means shorter battery life right?
Any way, I will be following your progress and should some kind of demo/alpha/beta become available, will be happy to test it on my brand new imate jamin.
Good luck with the project! 8)
not Camera API but DirectShow video buffer
No, we cannot use Camera API.
We have to use DirectX and get camera streamed image directly from DirectShow video buffer.
Surprise, it does not slow down device any more. At least until my current observations and measurements. But I just play with this project w few days. But still, a few more problems exist and should be fixed.
Certainly I will update this thread if something will go up.
this sounds like a brilliant project, very gutts'y too because its gotta take ALOT of testing and practice.
All my luck to you
we will be watching
Thanks
JGUI,
I know there are heaps of giid apps by you...I request if u can just advice something which anuimates the gif image in today...that wud be much appreciable

Google Maps resolution

Anyone noticed that the detail/zoom level isn't as good as it could be?
e.g. try to find Piccadilly Circus in London.
I am told that the HTC Touch 3G and the iphone shows better res.
I believe the HD is having same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532745
Is this device specific?
Anyone have ideas?
The search is great is a great app so want to keep this.
Have upgraded to 3.2 - no change
low resolution??
Got to be kidding...
Just take a look at these printscreens:

I think the OP is referring to the amount of Zooming In which can be done on Satellite view before GoogleMaps stops displaying the view and shows blank screen.
I agree with the OP, I've noticed the same thing. I don't have any answers but would love it if someone has some insight.

Hi
The zooming level hasn't changed at all, it is just the high resolution screen in a small area that means when you zoom in things don't seem so magnified than they would on a computer monitor for example.
If you take a screen crap and display that on your monitor and compare with the zoom level via a PC and I think you will find them the same.

Phil
I think it's true to say you need very good eyesight to use the TD2 screen to the full

You joke about it, I'm seriously considering reading glasses specifically for when I'm surfing on the TD2, to save using the zoom bar all the time! OK, I'll need them soon anyway, but that will be the main use!
Google maps zoom level
I don't think you understand my problem - maybe you don't have the same problem?
See the 3 screenshots. 2 taken from Opera and one from Google maps.
The Google maps is at least 2 or 3 levels of zoom less than that from using the browser.

Any way to fix wallpaper gradients??

It seems that any wallpaper with a gradient or any shading or glowing is displayed like in 8-bit style. What I mean by that is this.

Its really making alot of wallpapers look hideous and would like to know what I can do to make it look the way it should. Thanks in advance.
Seems like a little help and a little research does wonders these days.
Just so this can be used as a reference, i'm gonna go a little in dept here.

might try adding some noise to the pic. just a little bit. I used to have to do this on my touch pro 1+2 on some walls

These methods work in getting rid of the banding lines but what I figured out was to keep the quality, you need to do alot of tweaking and messing around. What I found out was adding a gaussian blur on a new layer thats slightly transparent and adding a little noise on a overlay layer thats slightly transparent is the trick.
This took me 2 mins to do. (Its 6:22am on fourth of July, I'll put up better examples later)
Before
After
What got me thinking was some of my camera pictures and other pictures in the gallery look stunning but anything I transfer via pc had horrible banding. Didnt make any sense at all. I'm no expert but adding a little blur and noise almost tricks the evo's screen.
great idea! thanks, now i can finally get some good wallpapers onto my evo.
How about sharing the exact settings you used? Or even better would be to post a PSD template that only requires people to paste their wallpaper (or possibly copy a layer style)
Download wallpaper set and save from the market. It fixes this problem.

Does the Xoom gallery still have just 16 bit color depth?

I'd appreciate it if somone with the Xoom would answer this question.
Back in Android 2.01 and earlier builds, the android gallery app had 24 bit color depth. Beginning with 2.1, they downgraded to 16 bit color. As a result, the gallery shows fewer colors and instead of smooth graduated tones you get distinct bands of color. Skies, bacgrounds, etc. look horrible. Here's a visual example of the difference:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
What's puzzling is that they downgraded the gallery app (which, more than any other app should make images look their best), yet the web browser still uses 24 bit color depth. This is the equivalent of the music app making your high quality music files sound like AM radio, while the same file sounds perfect as a ringtone.
All the third-party gallery apps in the market, except for Multi-Touch Gallery (Bread and Butter, or B&B), also use 16 bit color depth. B&B isn't a good soloution because it's buggy, and easily jumps to next and previous image when sliding around a zoomed-in image, and I think it's no longer maintained or supported by its developer.
Additionally, the default gallery down-sizes large image files. I have images that are only roughly 1700 x 2000 pixels that, when I zoom in 1:1 in the gallery look badly pixelated like a low-resolution image. The same file viewed in third-party gallery apps like JustPictures and QuickPic shows the detail when zoomed in.
I don't get why Apple can get this right with the iPhone and iPad, but Google gets it so wrong. They didn't fix these problems with Froyo and they didn't fix them with Gingerbread. As a photographer hoping to use my smartphone and, hopefully, a tablet as a mobile portfolio, that this is fixed in Honeycomb. Can someone confirm?

How to Shoot and Edit in LOG on the OPPO Find X5 Pro

The video capabilities on the OPPO Find X5 Pro are some of the most impressive that we have seen from this series so far. While you're able to shoot brilliant 4K footage with ease, OPPO included a feature for more advanced videographers that will give you more control over the way your footage looks. In the different filming modes available, you'll find the MOVIE option. This mode enabled several different features, but videographers will probably be most excited about the ability to shoot in LOG.
LOG is a filming profile that gives you a greater dynamic range and freedom in post-processing. While shooting your footage you might think that the video looks washed out or a little grey. That is because this footage is meant to be edited using professional software. You'll be able to tweak the color to look exactly how you want. This is the process that all movie footage goes through, in big productions.
Ho to Film in LOG on the OPPO Find X5 ProTo access this great feature, follow these steps:
Open your camera app
Go to MOVIE mode
Toggle LOG on the left menu
When shooting in LOG, all of your manual controls will still be accessible.

}
Hot to Edit Footage Shot in LOGNow that you have your footage, you'll want to use a professional editing app that will let you adjust the colors of your shot. Avoid using premade filters that tend to be included with smartphone editing software. Instead, try something like Adobe Premiere Rush: Video. Try using LUTs if you're a beginner at color grading, then tweak the look of the video from there.
LOG offers creators more control over their style and the overall result of their video. The addition of this feature to the OPPO Find X5 Pro is fantastic, and you should definitely try it out.
Thanks to OPPO for supporting this thread.
