New Blade or used X10? - Blade General

Hello!
I am going to buy a new phone and the ZTE Blade seems pretty nice! But for same amount of money I can get a used SE X10. It seems that x10 has better specs right? Which phone is best?
Regards Niclas

Xperias are nice phones but the Blade is easier to mod, unlock and in my experience has better reception.

If you are getting SE xperia x10 in a good condition (barely any scratches and clean screen with no scratches) then you should get it because it has a 4" screen which relatively improves the web surfing, gaming and typing experience and not to mention the official gingerbread upgrade which is coming soon on xperia x10.

It has less RAM and the same GPU.
Bigger screen though, better resolution as well IIRC and yes it will get official Gingerbread.

Legend compared to x10?

Hello guys,
There might be many other threads with the same topic, anyway In my area Legends go for the same price as an x10, which is 350 Canadian. so, I'm trying to make my mind which to get. I know legend is Htc and has multi touch, and x10 has an 4 display with better display.
so, I wanted to know your opinion on which is great for the buck?
Go for the Legend. Software can look outdated in a few years but with a phone design like that it will still look good and you will still be able to take it out in public.
If you don't play too much games go for the legend. It sure is thing of beauty. But performancewise, it would be hard to beat x10 after they get updated to 2.1 or 2.2 its just that no one knows when that will happen =P
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
As for me the x10 look much sexy to me, and its better on performance.
One drawback is the updates which is so late to this point.
But in terms of hardware the x10 rulez.
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
I had x10i before HTC Legend.... X10 is a very interesting device, what's better in x10 is a larger display.... I don't play games so X10's cpu doesn't matter for me. Display in legend is much more better, finnally it's amoled. Legend's camera in spite of lower resolution takes better photos for me. in X10 I had problems with auto focus, photos haven't good contrast. I also didn't like x10's speaker. the music was very poor both in speaker and headphones.... What's much better in the legend is the cover, it looks very solid in difference to X10... After a month of using X10 in the leather case I ve noticed that there swabs on the back of phone because of taking out of the case..... I also hate X10 's call speaker... I simply couldn't hear my calls, for example during driving a car.. The voice was extremally quiet. Finally, the Legend is handier than X10, now I can write messages using one hand I don't say that x10 is a bad phone because I was excited by it but I prefer Legend
Between Legend and X10, I would definitely pick X10. It just needs an OS update. In my place, X10 costs 5k rupees more than Legend and for X10 price, one can get Samsung Galaxy S or Milestone.
Also, look for phones like Galaxy S, Desire. These are better than Legend and X10.
from my pov x10 just have better camera with bigger screen , but everything elese is better on the legend the quality of the amoled screen , faster , newer software , the htc sense is really cool , the buildquality and the price the cpu is better on the x10 but i tried it and i really don't know how it;s better in this sluggish phone ( compared to the legend ) and finally rumors says that legend will get the 2.2 which will make it superfast .. and the x10 just will get the 2.1 maybe in the next year
I tried the x10 out, and it's too plasticly also the No search button, also 1.6 is not awesome at all. I guess I'm just going pay 400 bucks and buy it brand new from Virgin mobile. Do there sell the phone without contact? Because Bell is selling it for like 450.. and virgin has it for 350( sweet deal lol)

i work for virgin mobile in canada, and have the legend. i say wait a bit longer as i just found out today that we will be releasing the galaxy S "vibrant" within a week or 2 and i would strongly recommend getting that instead. it will beat out both the legend and x10 with a better screen and processor.
like i said, i have to legend right now and love it, i played with the x10 a few times but once you have multitouch its tough to live without, even knowing your device doesn't support it sucks. sadly the x10 will never support true multitouch as the screen doesn't allow it. 2.2 or not.
i will be swapping my legend in for the galaxy s when we get it in. so i'll be able to let you know which one i like more, spec and performance wise if your willing to wait.
--edit-
and yes we sell phones without a contract. you have to go on whats called a 30 day plan just to get it started, but you can cancel out of it after the month

[Q] Sony Xperia Arc Opinions

The Arc looks like a fantastic all around phone in that it has great clear/loud sound/with mega bass. I wonder if this phone is using the Wolfson chip.
Takes great pictures in low light/video is smooth/Hdmi mirroring. Very smooth UI and great colors on the screen.
It has a single core Qualcomm Scorpion MSM8255 processor. I realize its not a Dual Core phone but since they are just entering the market I would prefer to go with a single core 2nd generation phone.
I was thinking of getting the Samsung Galaxy S II but Samsung is still doing updates on the first Galaxy S and I don't trust them re updates.
Sony has stated that they did not handle updates for the X10 very well but promise to do a lot better with updates in regards to the Arc,I believe them.
Furthermore bigger isn;t always better.(Dual Core Vs Single Core)
In the end I want a phone that has clarity/volume in regards to phone calls/Great Camera/Good Video/can play games on it.
Would love to hear your opinions on the Arc Pro/Con.
how could you believe a thief when he tells you he won't steal anything anymore...

I'm looking for opinions on this phone not looking for stuff like you can never trust a thief.
Its not using wolfson chip.
The camera is about as good or maybe 5% better than the X10's. (check GSMArena photocompare)
The Bravia Engine works only with pictures or videos. Rest of the time its just like any other TFT LCD.
Internal memory is a measly 500 mb.
I personally don't think the Arc justifies its price tag, the Neo has everything the Arc has but at a much cheaper price.
Oh and like the X10, it will take months to crack the bootloader, so no custom ROMs.

apparently this is not the case. The hard lockdown on devices in the past has made it hard even for SE to upgrade the phones. The new phones are said to have a more open bootloader to make it easier to update
+1 for the Neo (how could SE have stuffed up and not given their flagship model a front facing camera.. but given the cheaper model the same fancy new screen and camera chip and also given it a Front camera!) are they really that stupid?
I'm going buy an HTC or Samsung next..and if not them a motorola.. after those choices.. I might consider a Neo
Kiwi
And so here I am on a brand new Arc. Had it for a day or so and must say it's been very smooth so far. My latest phone was an X10i so this is not terribly different...
Anyway, first impressions are very good. Great screen. Native Exchange integration is perfect (except I can't sort contacts by other than first name, believe this is an Android quirk). WiFi tethering was very smooth. DLNA was hitch-free. In-call sound quality is very good, I'd say better than the other Xperias I've had (apparently it has a little mic that takes up background noice to cancel it out, though I think I'll need to fly with a head-set to experience this properly). Why they've switched the "menu" and "back" buttons around I can't understand for the love of me, but maybe there's a reason...
Overall, with my short experience it's been great, so far. Certainly a phone I would recommend to any non-X10 user and probably to those that have X10s, as well.
Cheers for now/M

what a lucky person!!! i love the phone so much. you must be very close to SE. so can you please advise when it will be released. it think april is too late to wait. im keen to have the phone right away.

My thoughts...very nice design, good screen and very good camera, the bad? it lags too much.
oh wow, I just actually clicked on the video LOL I know that person personally since he's in Thailand. Like both him/I said, wait for the final firmware. That unit he has is still a very early prototype, no where near the final. Some of the hardware isn't even implemented yet, you can tell which . Cheers

look, when you talking about you don't trust sgs which is only 3 months younger than x10 and got 2.2 update almost the same time as x10 got 2.1, and knowing that SE announced x10 would never receive 2.2 but samsung never claim they won't provide further version, but then you said you trust in SE?
i don't think you need any oppinion at all.

Got to play the arc, neo and play last night, and I also saw the arc at CES. Its certainly improved since then, and huggee fast first time round.
One thing I noticed is that the widget overview is now smooth, no lag like before.
As for neo vs arc, there are lots of similarities, but when you pick the phones up the arc feels better, special somehow. The neo feels normal... Also the display is better on the arc.

i am really happy eith it, is fast and has one of the most important thnigs to me... design, the galaxy brand look like crap and are based on iphone design
There are Differences on Arc and Neo not just the Looks
Arc
>Clear Black Panel(No Air Gap, Great Sunlight Legibility, 20% more Brighter than Neo)
>Lightweight(117g) vs (126g)
>Slim Arc Body(8.7mm~10.5mm) vs (13mm)
>Screen Size 4.2" vs 3.7"
Neo
>Front Facing Camera
>Better Hardware Positions(Camera Sensor, Shutter Key)

Incredible S VS SE Arc

So here's a fair battle:
Both are single core
Both are brand new
Both are made by the most reputable mobile makers
Both have 8mp
Both have more or less the same price
Here are the + of the IS:
-In my country right now HTC are more appreciated but opinions change fastly.
-Dual LED flash
-SENSE UI !!!
-Better materials?
Here are the + of the Arc:
-Better camera
-Light and slim
-Can be rooted later by SE while the IS boot loader is locked
-Bigger and better screen(5mm longer body but the IS is larger by 1mm for a smaller screen) specially under sunlight
-Louder sound output (though not huge difference)
I don't know much about the IS.. but.. (there's always a but!)
SenseUI is a subjective one.. my wife has a HTC and I'm indifferent about it TBH..
Dual LED flash - yes - but how good is it.. does it actually produce better results than the single LED on the Arc.. (which works extremely well.)
Better Materials - The Arc, IMHO, is very well built and the plastic construction (from experience with the X10) is a more robust one, which resists damage very well indeed..
I'm sure the the IS has other things going for it.. ??
Ya incredible s is very fast. But not rootable I heard. Not devs or roms for it either. Neither with arc since its very new. Right now im only thinking nexus s or arc. Very hard decision for me.

Last Thursday I decided to swap my Desire HD for an Xperia Arc.
Today I am a happy man!!!
For me, the followng 3 points are what really counts most:
1) MUCH louder (and better quality too) audio. I can hear my phone ringing even when I have it in the pouch.
2) Far better display. Colour-wise, contrast-wise, and the direct-sun experence is fantastic and very useful for my country (I suppose the same applies for you too my friend)
3) Although the Arc has much less RAM (HTC Desire HD has 400+MB available RAM to the user, and the Arc has just 140+MB!!!), the UI experience is VERY smooth, and the phone handles just perfectly. I have not faced any mem issues up to now...
I dont use the camera THAT much, but yes, the Arc has a way better camera than the HTC one.
Now when it comes to build quality, some people may easily say that the HTC DHD is much better than the Arc. Well, the answer is, yes, the HTC feels more solid in your hand because of its aluminium unibody, but the Arc feels also very solid. From my experience, the volume and power buttons on the HTC were getting more and more loose, and the battery and SIM+SD cap were made out of the cheapest plastic available in the market (easily breakable, possibly on purpose). So for build quality, I could lust say both phones are equal...
I came across this comparison as well. But the factors for me was (for the arc);
Bigger screen
Possibility of the playstation suite (although they have the same processor)
Looks
and I really dont like Sense UI.
Im glad I'm going with the Arc and it should be here today
Is there a way to use apps to SD in case you need more memory for apps on the ARC?
I used to have an app called app2sd before roms with builtin and Ext3 were released on N1, it didn't push all the apps to SD but managed to do it with a good bunch of them
Apps to SD is a standard feature of 2.2+ like you said, not all will be allowed to move but a lot will. Do it via applications menu in settings.
Sent from The Arc!
Also, a plus for the Arc is it runs Gingerbread straight out the box.
It's funny when you think about it, people here preffered HTC devices over SE because they are rootable but now that HTC locked the boot loader on Incredible and Desire S and SE want to unlock the Arc's one the XDA users will switch to SE
I hope SE will keep their promises and unlock Arc as soon as possible and not in 6 months lol
Can anyone tell me as to why the amount of free ram is so less in the Arc compared to its counterparts?

[Q] Blade or Wildfire.

Hey, i've been checking some reviews and such on the ZTE Blade and i find it rather better than my Wildfire (rooted and overclocked).
What do you guys think, should i sell my wildfire and get a ZTE Blade instead?
Ofcourse.
Why?
Because ZTE have HD quality display 420 x 800px, 512 ram, and have a hardware 3d accelerator (chip Adreno 200).
So, on ZTE you can play a Gangstar, asphalt 5, bia2, avatar, nfs shift, nova, gt racing, hawx, or many many other 3d HD games.
If you frequently surf on internet, make you happy information, that a standart web page have 100% width on display, and you still can read!
I wanna have the wildfire before i'm buy ZTE, but i'm finally buy ZTE and I know now, i'ts be a good decision.
Wildfire have only 240 x 320 like old type k770, its sucks!
ps
And sorry for my bad english
YES!
The Blade is 1000 times better than the wildfire.
Just sell your wildfire and buy the ZTE.
Or actually i think you should wait for the ZTE Skate!
I have got both.
Looking for excellent overall build quality, the Wildfire is the way to go (sorry but the Blades's wobbling volume and power buttons freaks me out...),
For everything else, the Blade is definitely the best, not to mention the easiness to root and unlock.
Blade kills Wildfire. Every aspect...
There is also the Wildfire S now, but the Blade has better specs than it.
Come on, honestly the buid quality of the SF is terrible...(but for a sub £99 device it's difficult to blame it). The wildfire feels definitely more solid and reliable but the poor screen resolution made me look elsewhere.

But saying that SF blows Wildfire in every aspect is untrue

when is it due to be released ?
end of may i think? wildfire is really overpriced compared to blade..
Actually, if i didn't own a ZTE Blade allready, I'd check this out: Huawei Ideos X5
It is better than the Blade, quite better build quality (also note that it's been reported that the ZTE Skate has worse build quality than the Blade, despite the better specs), costs not much more and seems great in all videos and reviews I've seen!
3 words: just take blade
by OSF
there's something else that matters : community support. You'd better buy an android device with many people around, developping ROMs and apps
So you could find a device with better specifications that ultimately sucks, because noone solves the issues (and chinese vendors sell devices for cheap, so they can't spend more time on the software side)

[Q] Should I buy?

I am wondring if I should buy the Xperia arc S now, or should I wait for the next generation in this price range.
What do you think?
Really. THERE LIKE 100 people making the exact threads everyday.
Can't you search for someone asking the same question???
It may be an old threads ...
Yes :-
1-Clear display
2-HDMI
3-Awesome speaker
4-sexy design
5-The Best camera phone. (not better than xperia s)
6-Will recive ICS update officially.
7-good battery life
8-noise cancelling mic
No:-
1- Became Old cause most of new android devices are dual core and quad.
2-Lags alot with ICS .
3-Not good for HD games even when using GB.
4-Overheat from the back when playing games or surfing the web using DATA.
5-when you speak the other side (who listing to you) will hear your voice repeated specially when using the speaker.
6-Less custom roms ( seriously that's why i started making my own roms) than Galaxy or htc users.
*So it depends on you whether you wants high performance device for gaming and fast picture shooting or not .
Don't do it.
It's too old

I want to break some myths about the Xperia S. The screen is .1 inches bigger but the phone is massively bigger due to the screen bezel and the antenna design and does not feel good in hand. The material feels quite cheap for some reason. The Arc isnt a solid phone but feels more solid and is thinner and lighter. I have been using one form of ICS or another since December with Arc (not S) and its as stable and fast as it ever was with GB. The official ICS ROM will make for even better custom ROMs. The camera is marginally better on the S but is not the best by 2012 standards. I hate the feel of capacitive buttons on the S but I guess ICS on screen buttons would take care of that.
The Arc S is a good phone for its current price but I expect development to slow down in a few more months as more and more developers are upgrading hardware. The One X and the One S is definitely the bar right now. The screens, construction, processors and camera are all the best on the market. I have Sony everything so its hard for me to exit the brand so I'm keeping my Arc for one more year but for others, the One is the upgrade for 2012.
I have played with all of the phones above and Arc overclocked feels the same as S.
One S is better in almost every way vs Xperia S. The feel in hand to the performance. The construction is superb aircraft grade aluminum treated to a very nice finish. The only thing you'll miss is NFC but its still not mainstream with enough practical applications right now (it takes two hands to clap). The super AMOLED is not an issue coming from a lower resolution Arc and is a superb screen despite reviews.
One X is hands down the best phone I have ever played with. There are only two things inferior to the One S and thats battery and finish. Its still gorilla glassed front with ultra high impact-resisting polycarbonate, which is very strong and solid but something about that black aluminum magic is so sexy about the One S.
Either get one of the Ones or Arc S. I cant recommend the Xperia S to anyone.

I strongly disagree with this point. With the final update, it will be at least as smooth as GB if not faster. The ICS beta is laggy because of the incomplete/unoptimized 2D acceleration implementation.

I strongly disagree with most of your points.
1. It depends on what you really need and fit best your needs.
2. You can't even know because there is no official ICS yet.
3. Well it is good enough for HD games. Name one, which doesn't run smooth? I can play GTAIII and MC3 smooth (I don't need anymore ).
4. Every phone heats, you just feel it a little bit more because of the thinness. GS2 users whine about that too.
5. Surely not with normal mic, and for the speaker, I personally don't know any device, which has really good speakers.
6. Less custom ROMs? In Samsung and HTC forums there are only more ROMs, because 80% are stock-based. Do you really need that?
@OP: As I said it depends on what you really need. I am very happy with my Arc S.
BTW: Next time you could search and post your question in Q&A.

1- Agree maybe i should wait then judge the Arc s with the official ICS hoping it will become better .
2-GTAIII is playable but with few glitches ...
* I used to be happy with my arc but not after i saw the benchmarking of GSII ... And the face unlocking on ICS .
I'd say Arc S is one of the best phones in that price range. I admit the processor and GPU are kinda crappy, but it's still capable of running HD games(such as Asphalt 6, MC3, GTA3 etc.) without noticable lag!
Arc has a lot of custom roms. Phones like i9000 has more roms, but why do we need hundreds of different roms, because we all know that only some of them are good!
One thing I really love in my Arc is the screen! It's large enough(Frankly, I think larger would be too big), it has good resolution, and it hard to damage(it is more scratch-resistant than ie. Gorilla Glass).
And don't you say ICS is laggy! They haven't even released the final build! I believe Arc has a good potential of running ICS.

1. I am sure Sony won't release some laggy ****. We should be way more happy with Sony for even releasing a alpha/beta version.
2. IMO, It depends on the ROM. I haven't had any on CM7 and stock based ROM like Arconium.
But still it hasn't enough RAM, apps need more and more RAM.
