Waiting for AT&T for NODO? - here it is in spite of them - Focus General

http://blog.walshie.me/2011/04/04/so-who-wants-windows-phone-updates-like-right-now/
I did this. My Focus was totally stock. No mods. This took less that 10 minutes total.
After it was complete, all of my stuff was still there. About as painless as it could get.
There was no chance to backup anything. Also this can't be reversed. But who cares? It worked great.
Make sure you download the 32 bit or 64 bit versions as appropriate to the PC the phone is connected to. If you read some of the comments, you will get the feeling that the few that complain probably ran the wrong version.
If you are not sure if you are 32 or 64 bit, go to Control Panel, then System. It will tell there.

The No mods portion is quite misleading. If it runs Chevron, chances are it is modding it. I would be stunned if this didn't void your warranty, absolutely stunned. The only way to update sans any mods would be to wait for the update to come. Otherwise, you might as well run the debrander and update that way...

Concerned
I used this to update to pre-NoDo (7004-7008). I have not done NoDo yet and I'll tell you what my concern is. I would like to know where this update is coming from (I am assuming the MS servers) and whether it is the same version currently being tested by AT&T. I am concerned that there may be AT&T or Samsung specific "fixes" in the AT&T version that are not included in the version being downloaded through this method. Wish someone could tell us.

Well I did it all
Went to nodo and my samsung is working fine if you need me to test some things for you just let me know and I will be happy, as far as warranty goes whenever I did chevron I didn't worry about it anyway, nor did I when I have had any previous devices.

My phone was not modded prior to the update. As far as I can tell it is still unmodded. I didn't see anything happen except the two updates. There is a command window open while this process is taking place.

I had a similar thought, but after a few days of read about people getting NoDo, I said screw it. As far as I have read no company, Samsung included, has added anything to NoDo. I would be shocked if they did anything.

Samsung firmware updates come separate. This update method works because Microsoft released " Windows Phone Support Tool "; Chris acknowledges. When you update, your specific phone gets identified.
I have a non-mod AT&T Samsung Focus. Like everyone else who followed the directions it took about 10 minutes, and worked perfectly. I've tested the features and my apps and it is much snappier. I'm happy with it!
*** Oh, I also used the windows phone support tool before trying to update ***

It appears the chevronupdater file has been removed from the linked post... Does anybody still have a copy?

I can't find it either

No one here should be misled. If you're worried about warranty, be advised NOT to install, run , deploy almost anything that is discussed here.

chevronupdater
Here's the chevronupdater for 64 bit windows. Also, i had trouble doing this as it would run and not update anything. Then i ran windows phone support tool and it updated my focus from 7004 to 7004.3 or something. If it's not working for you, you could try that

You guys might also want to go ahead and download .Net 4, since the updater apparently requires it.
I would link directly to it, but I haven't posted 8 times yet!

One general thing I noticed last night
My phone kept chiming .........bing, bing, bing, bing bing bing......... well you get the point. I turned it off and back on and it came back so at that time I just switched my phone to vibrate reason I have no idea besides that it has been running great.

Do you have a Focus? This behavior has been reported with the Focus a few times, in fact there is a thread somewhere about this. I had(?) this as well. The battery icon would flash like it was charging when it was not connected to a charger. When the usb cable was plugged in it behaved normally. It would not allow the screen to turn off. I worked with ATT Technical Support as well as Samsung. ATT informed me it was a known problem and they had seen many cases, MS knew of it and it was being fixed "in the next update". This was over a month ago. Mine stopped this behavior. I was normally able to stop it by plugging it into the PC and then, through a combination of turning off Zune, turning off the phone and unplugging while the screen was off, get it to stop.

Thanks J I see you everywhere on Focus post lol, yes I have a Focus I need to update my sig I know. It was the first time I experienced that I had my Focus since launch and it has been unlocked since the chevron came out, until I tried the unbranding update ;(. But it is up and running since running chevronupdate, I really haven't noticed anything as of yet, because my device was running fine prior to update, but the XDA disease really keeps my wanting more Thanks for the update big guy.

I know, I need to get a life. I got tired of tweaking and upgrading when I was in my "crazy" phase with WM 6.5. Thought I "had to" constantly visit here and update. Didn't realize until I had WP7 that I really didn't need to do that. But, I did not want to wait for that foot dragging AT&T to get me this simple update but also had no interest in sideloading apps. This was a perfect solution.
Wonder why the updater was pulled?????

I am guessing ATT, asked MS to do it because it looks like it makes them seem to not care about customers (worked a while for Cingular/ATT) and alot of things I know can be implemented into devices and they just don't. They nickel and dime us to death I think MS should I hate to say it (do like Apple) and just push the updates themselves to the devices and only radio updates should be pushed by providers (the only thing they need to do anyways). If anyone needs it I have it in my dropbox (the chevron upate 32 and 64)

Agreed

The worst thing MS did was allow the carriers to play such a significant role in the update process, especially their "Premier Partner", AT&T. I worked for them for 9 years during a time when customer satisfaction was at the core of the company. Today's AT&T is not that company, not even a shadow. MS will get the brunt of the criticism for this early update fiasco, even though AT&T deserves the blame. MS will receive it because consumers view this as an MS update. In addition, MS agreed to this "model" with the carriers so, in a way, they deserve the criticism.

AT&T Samsung Focus Success!!!!
Detail and I don't know how many had this issue. DO NOT turn off your phone before the update as the Windows Phone Support Tool instructions tell you. I know, I know, but I did that for quite some time until I decided NOT to turn off the phone.
Did have to run it twice, but I've already copy and pasted to my heart's content
Great job guys.....Thanks a million!!!!!!

just Unbrand
I just got a new Samsung Focus and all I did was dev unlock my device because I am a dev, but after that all I did was plug in my phone, unbrand it, and I got the 7008 update, followed by the another check and I got the Nodo update. No other mod necessary. Just an unlock and an unbrand and I got both updates.

T-mobile 2.13 update removed from T-mobile site.

The title says it all:
Customers have reported issues when attempting to download the HTC HD2 software update, and may be experiencing additional issues following successful downloads. As a result, the software update has been temporarily removed from www.t-Mobile.com/wmupgrade.
Support teams are engaged and working to resolve these issues so customers can take advantage of the many benefits this update will provide. Once the issues have been resolved, the software update will be re-posted on www.t-Mobile.com/wmupgrade.
Customers who have successfully downloaded the software should keep the update and continue to use their device as normal.
Thank you all for your patience!
Leads me to wonder whether or not T-mobile tested the update thoroughly before releasing it to consumers...

Not really sure what the "additional issues" are, but I hope that includes the radio problems, sensitivity problems, and the scrolling issues.
Yea, It was probably just refering to the slow download speed from the site. It's gonna be the same ROM with its issues.
Download is still there

It's still up there, but is there actually any way of navigating to that page from the site's front-end anymore? Bearing in mind that Joe Average Consumer wouldn't be browsing xda for the link, heh.
thanx alot my hd2 needs work
Unless they modified this update, it will make the phone less useful (as for my experience). I updated my htc hd2 but I immediately downgraded.
Yea It was up this morning my guess is t-mobile was getting excessive bandwidth issues with all the hungry consumers wanting this updated ROM, which they all very well should be !!! ROM has been on my device for over a week and I haven't had the need for a battery pull or reset since, everything is kosher,...there are complaints of lag, but I have not experienced any issues with my HD2 since I upgraded my ROM to the 2.13

I've updated to 2.13 yesterday and last night, it was taking up to 45 seconds to make a call. Holy Smoke!
I mean I've pressed call and put the phone up to my ear and took up to 45 seconds before I heard first ringing.
I'm looking into downgrading for now.
well i downloaded the update yesterday but then like half and hour later the update from the website was taken off and that made me think that it might of been something wrong with the update other than a downloading problem. until they put a new download i highly doubt that i will upgrade. hopefully tmobile will announce some news on what the update is doing to these phones cause many people have upgraded and most of them have different problems.

Not. Normal.
this is a junk upgrade!
Downgrading's easy. Just go to the sticky and download the 2.10.0 rom and then flash as you normally would and then you're set. I just did it this morning and boy what a difference.
This update has been very good for me, on both HD2 phones. Battery life is much better, reception is better, data is faster. I can see a difference in the touch-screen sensitivity from the original but everyone was complaining about it being too sensitive.
It would be good for HTC to develop an included GUI for adjusting the screen sensitivity.
For me this update has been very good!
There is a cab to change the sensitivity back.
it worked fine for me. second day and its fine.
It has been working great for me. No freezing (yet), and much faster response time. Weather updates still buggy. Opera browser got an update as well.

Looking at the verbage used in the statement issued by T-Mo, it makes it seem like by putting SOOO much emphasis on "trouble downloading" and then throwing a little 3 word "and after downloading" at the end that the real issue is the ROM. I say this because bandwidth is cheap (relatively) and for a wireless provider like T-Mo, pushing 200 mb files out to a small subset of their users should be nothing. I've downloaded 5+ gb of data from Microsofts websites the day that updates were released with no download issues what so ever.
My thoughts (and this is probably wishful thinking) are that maybe .01% of downloads failed (which is normal) and so they have the proof to back up their claims about the d/l being buggy, but the real issue is the actual ROM being bad
T-Mo is in the business of communication (aka transportation of voice data), they have the technology to push a relatively small file to an even smaller subset of users. I'm raising the BS flag on the download issues and hoping for a better ROM release.

Ok, but the file is back up on their site with the same version number. Indicating that is has been put back up for download, but no changes to the ROM.
A lot of the newest ROM's are based on this version, correct? Is so, how has the stability been affected? I have heard nothing but bad stuff on the update and am not surprised it was pulled. Are the ROMS based on that update OK to use. Stable? Fast? Screen jitters?
I am running Kumar 1.2 now and am considering upgrading.

Froyo update - Virgin Canada

Any idea when its coming?
Maybe the question should be more like: "Will it be released in Canada"
i highly doubt it will be out before the generic htc froyo rom...so i want to de-brand and flash the generic rom...
can anyone recommend a good guide for flashing the generic froyo rom to our specific model virgin canada legend? thanks in advance...
Canadian carriers are pretty awful at releasing updates in a timely fashion. Hopefully Virgin will break the pattern. Just to give you an idea, the predecessor to our phone, the Hero, just got an update from Telus recently... to 2.1.
I contact HTC via email about the software update for Bell/Virgin HTC Legend and they tell me to ask it to Bell/Virgin. I sent an email to Bell without answer. If anybody gets an answer from them let us know!
There's another thread about this very topic at HowardForums (can't post the link due to new account restrictions).
But anyways, apparently one of the Virgin reps is "looking into it" .. maybe we'll get an answer there soon.
I have just gotten off the phone with Virgin mobile and HTC and told them that i have the 2.2 for my legend already installed and rooted all that fun stuff i got them to send me to tech support to get the APN settings for my baby and he also let me know that the 2.2 is in devlopment up there and will be released some time soon... no exact date but he's heard that they will be supporting it...also if they do release it OTA i think they may release a patch if you agree to the OTA you may loose root and possibly never be able to root again due to the new update.. Hope this was some help.

EDIT: Yes, Bell got it too.

Finally got it yesterday. Apps2SD is a lifesaver.
Can't change lockscreen anymore, so that sort of bites. Other than that, Love the new live wallpapers. Haven't noticed any speed increases, but It's not like i've been looking for them or paying too much attention to load times.
So far i'm really happy with it. Voice commands, flashlight, etc. all nice features.
It's a shame they didn't add the 2.2 camera interface.
Is the new version comes with the Wifi hotspot ? Anyone with the new official update let us know?
Also i'm wondering if i flash mine with the new official update, whether i can still root ?
I would like to have the wifi hotspot... coz i heard with the official update they removed this functionality that normally comes with the unbranded OTA froyo.
Thanks

It is there. Just checked on my wife's Legend.
Generally, it has been a great upgrade. The only issues are that a couple apps have not been updated by their authors in a LONG time so they do not work well on 2.2 and that for some reason, the screen lock dots were set to only come on after 5 minutes of non-use. My wife had it set to immediate before so she was annoyed that that changed.
App 2 SD isn't the lifesaver I was hoping it was... I find the apps still take up some space on the main phone even after you move them to SD. Frustrating.

I'm a Rogers customer who purchased an HTC Legend from a VM customer. Contrary to what I was told by VM, I did receive the Froyo update (today) when I checked for it on my phone (it wasn't pushed).
It includes the wifi hotspot (YAY) and while it doesn't permit pushing all apps to the SD card, it has let me move most of them there, so I'm hoping the 'low space' messages are a thing of the past.
Can't say I notice a big speed boost, but the wireless tethering is big to me, as is the ability to move most apps to the SD card. Looking forward to better voice recognition too.
All the best and good luck with your phone!
Phone seems sluggish at times after my official froyo update... even have to reboot a few times when it becomes too sluggish... i've moved all movable apps to sd but some big ones can't be moved... like swype freaking 18MB and IGO 29MB...
sluggish like finger swiping the pictures from my alblum is really slow and the picture does not follow my finger unles i move it mm by mm and slowly...
anyone experienced that?
A friend of mine on Bell's Froyo has that constantly. A hard reset fixed it though.
you should notice that froyo is much faster than stock eclair...its not subtle at all
They offered me a discount on my monthly bill for 3 months because of the mess up on android 2.2, but when I got the bill, it was still the same amount...
Sent from my HTC Legend using XDA App
Oh ho ho, they do that sometimes as a joke. They treat us like chickens...
Just call customer service and demand a 6 month adjustment, instead.
Or, before you demand such a thing, check your account's notes to see if it will be added on to the next bill. Bell and Virgin operates on advanced billing.

Any ROMs Available? Even OEM?

Are there any leads to a Samsung Focus flashable ROM yet? Even an OEM ROM? I'd really like to take my Focus back to 7004 and start over if possible.
Unfortunately, I tried to recover using Windows Phone Support Tool and it destroyed my ability to Unlock again. I was trying to revert back to my 7004 backup, but was not sure how to do it.
Now I'm concerned about not being able to get OEM or Chevron updates. That would bite!
I have been looking for a while, no luck
wish I had the knowledge to make a rom to backup 7004 before upgrading
hopefully some nice person will make a rom (preferably Rogers as less bloatware)
Don't expect a ROM for Focus anytime soon. There's simply no one working on it. I have a bricked device that needs a new ROM flash. Been waiting for months now!

Would that not make you the dumb one for buying a phone that didn't have a stock rom in the first place? As is stands I think the stock rom is more than smooth enough. Yes there are things lacking and not as many tweakable options as android, but it is still very usable. Just be patient, it will come eventually.
Nobody seems to realize the disasters of Android when they first came out. We are already far ahead with WP7 on a timescale point of view.
Nobody is dumb here, we all just have different expectations from our devices.
Also, along the lines of time frames, WP7 is also ahead of the iPhone when it was released. It too had it's headaches, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get cut/paste faster? And MultiTasking will be here WAY faster than iPhone got it.
Just be patient, and give it a little time to mature. It's coming along quite nicely, especially lately. And the ATT feet dragging on the update? I'd much rather they took a little extra time than see a bunch of people in these threads with bricked phones, or upgrades that didn't work as planned. That can kill an OS. I think the first Feb update showed them they need to be cautious, and that's exactly what they are doing. No, I don't like to wait, I'm as impatient as the next guy, sometimes more, but it will be worth it in the long run.
UPDATE!
I was concerned that forcing the NoDo update and then using the Windows Recovery Tool had made my phone unable to receive the March NoDo update from ATT.
Well, I'm happy to say that I just plugged my phone in this morning, and I'm RIGHT NOW updating to the "Samsung update for Windows Phone".
WOOHOO!!!! I thought I was hosed...
Now, the question will be, Can I Unlock It? I doubt it, but at least I'm getting the actual Update from ATT. I'm hoping there is a firmware update included also. I'll let you know.

I did try to use the Windows Phone Support Tool, and even disected the code. It still needs signed FFUs from Microsoft to flash to the device. You can't just make it flash your custom ROMs.
It would really be awesome is someone was indeed working on a ROM for Focus right now, because then I would be able to bring my phone back to life. But unfortunately, I've been wating since february and it hasn't happened, and there have been people who have been waiting even longer.
I can't even sell the device to anyone because it doesn't even boot up. Its just a paperweight now. It was a bad decision to buy this phone. Should have gone with the Omnia 7 instead.

I dont understand why you are bashing this phone so badly. I moved from a fuze with win 6.5 plus. I loved the freedom i had with that phone. but, as with any rom and initial release of an op system. there will be bugs. there will be updates. This all takes time. I think this phone is awesome for now. Its very easy to use and is powerful and very fast. The wifi is much faster than what im used to. Just be patient there will be some great improvements to come for this.
The rom posted in the development forum works and is for AT&T Samsung Focus. Read my reply

There is no Rom for the Focus, I dont recomend this phone. I got a mine almost 4 month ago and was loaded with another Rom, I wait for a Rom to appear and i lost my hope,, no one is interested on it. So I sell the phone to a very dumb guy. Just resell it.

Why the hell would I do that?? The phone is near perfect as is.
Try this ?

See if it works for you.
Focus Rom
This maybe a true Focus Rom but the person who is saying it works has not or will not say how he used this rom. The upload tool included with the Rom does not work.
If it really does work why not just tell us what you used to flash the phone?
The other ROM 7004 included in the thread is a AT&T Demo ROM so don't use it.

I don't think so. On any of the claims.
He has clearly stated how he did it, the tool as well, but nobody actually verified. Unless someone actually tries those with a Focus, all rest are suppositions. Including mine.
So unless someone actually tries them, I have to say what the original poster (Chinese) said they are:
There are 3 roms posted there now:
-UCKC3
-UCKC3 mod/custom 7004 (no idea what that means)
-AT&T Demo
The last 2 have been posted by me in that order in the Focus UCKC3 rom thread.
does anyone know how to use this? i need an instruction

I am not 100% sure but i believe he stated the tool worked for him. But I had already posted this comment.
I'm not here to say bad things, I just had not sean a coment on how he was able to use the ROM, and was hoping somebody would say how they did it. And yes he did.

7.10.7740.16 Update - Like a BigBoss :D

Got the official 7740 Update via Zune, anyoe got a Changelog?
I'm Installing it right now - will post anything new i find
Nothing noticeable in this Update -_-
DVP - Great Smartphone - Great Software - Missing OEM Update= Useless ****! Dell you SUCK!
Sent from my Dell Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Microsoft's aim with WP7 isnt to introduce anything new or mind blowing, its to just improve feature level functionality without confusing the end user.
Like a Boss indeed!!
I got nothing on my unlocked US T-Mobile Version of DVP =/
Yeah just got the update for my factory unlocked TMO DVP and nothing we can notice at all. Just bug changes that probably affect a small batch of us. Here's the screen shot of a somewhat of a changelog:
http://www.wpcentral.com/microsoft-reportedly-rolling-out-7740-os-update-windows-phone
Still waiting for a unique WP7 phone as a replacement to the DVP
Can we please stop using "Like a boss". It is a bit childish. I am not trying to flame here but it is nice coming to a forum that is mostly professional.

How about we let people just be themselves. I know I'm not a senior member, but I see no need to censor anyone.
the multi-tasking resume time on apps seems to be faster from the beta. And overall seems faster response time. I would recommend a battery pull for everyone after the update also, that helped mine too.
I updated mine yesterday and it seems to be fine except for one thing. I used to get "H" all the time, now only 3G. Anyone experience the same issue? Pulled the battery a few times already and still the same.
Anyone else updated yet? Seem to be very few update reports, havent got it myself yet.
nothing for me yet
Well it would seem its tmobile blocking this update, my generic DVP got the prompt and updated ok while my tmo locked one still claims 7720 is up to date.
Such a disgraceful state that US carriers are so intent on blocking updates for the devices they carry and have effectively killed the market for true unlocked phones.
my att DVP when from the beta 7720.212 to 7720.219 and now it says its up to date, is that true or should I have 7740?

Yes, that's correct. 7720.219 is the latest firmware version.
The 7740 OS update was relatively minor and Dell has not released new firmware since the Mango release. Therefore, the firmware version number has not changed since Mango.

That's what I have on mine. Are you only seeing 3G or do you get "H"? I used to but after the update I only get 3G.

I have noticed this on my phone as well. I remember it showing 'H' more often with the 212 firmware than it does now. Similarly, I did not see 'H' very often prior to the 212 firmware.
I suspect my signal strength may be near to the borderline, as I haven't seen many other people mentioning this.
In the 212 firmware, Dell made some tweaks to improve signal strength (http://wmpoweruser.com/dell-venue-pro-users-new-fw-report/). Not sure if any of this changed in 219 - it's possible.

I might just revert back and see if it makes any difference. Maybe that's the only way to find out.

Kindle Fire OTA software update coming in less than two weeks

In the wake of many user complaints about web browsing speeds and other performance issues, Amazon has told the New York Times that it will be releasing a software update for the Kindle Fire "in less than two weeks." That timeframe would put this new software update about a month after the 6.2 update released at the end of November.

Oh God lol, now I have to root again....

Well hopefully this time it will be at least a worthwhile update. instead of a no visible difference update like the last one or take away a feature like the one before that.

Let's hope the Development get a solid kernel and Rom by then...I don't want to be stock when they update the bootloader and lock it down after all the returned rooted and bricked fires due to people testing kernels that didn't know what they were doing and then returning them.....

Lets hope some concrete updates...... But wht about some hardware issues......
http://mirolta.com/2011/12/12/amazo...for-kindle-fire-to-encounter-critical-issues/
The OTA will be a non-issue as much as the 6.2 update was. Sure you might have to reroot but Big Deal! That took all of a 30 seconds to do again.
Stuff about Amazon changing to a locked bootloader ignores the fact that most people never root or modify their device. The ones that do are a very miniscule minority of the total users that have the unit. Besides, has any device manufacturer locked a bootloader for a device that was originally released as unlocked? I don't think so.
I bet a lot more units are returned due to some malfunction than due to some someone screwing up their unit trying to modify it.
My wife has her unit stock... no mods, no tweaks, just uses it the way it came. I have mine rooted, different launcher and tons of apps that I have loaded from Android Market or side loaded via other means. I think the device is great for the price.
People who use forums like this have a very skewed idea of how many people actually modify their devices... most never do, never know about it and don't even know forums like this.

Exactly ... That's a well explained post
Yeah, companies lock bootloaders for concrete reasons. They are not going to all of a sudden lock the device down a month after it was released just to mess with modders. Because that is literally the only thing it would do.
The Nook Tablet, for instance... I believe the reason the bootloader is locked is because they had to as part of an agreement with Netflix to provide higher quality streaming to the device. B&N decided that annoying the tiny minority of modders was worth it in exchange for high quality Netflix streaming - something that a much larger percentage of users can benefit from and of course an extra marketing bullet point for them to use.
I'm fine with them updating the device. Look at all the Android phones that don't get regular updates. All people do is whine about NOT getting updated! The KF is some great hardware for the price but it still has issues. Touchscreen responsiveness still needs to be improved, battery life REALLY needs to be improved, and they have to fix the sleep of death as well. I will GLADLY go through the hassle of re-rooting and re-installing the market if these things are fixed.
Of course I'd prefer to have a custom ROM so I can get updates without having to redo all that stuff, but it's only a matter of time.
please, dear god, let non-rooted users change the lockscreen wallpaper
Is there a way yet to block OTA updates (that is also easy to reverse)?
Don't want to be caught with my pants down by this update if it does more than anticipated ....

Also hoping for a clean re-root-only response to this update... I have it stowed away as a gift for my wife, and take it out at night to perform nerd-surgery. It would be great to not have issues right before holiday, as it's going to be enough fun explaining the different launchers, etc.

Not the best solution, but it's easy: turn off wireless.
You don't need a widget for this, but it's nice. I recently installed a power control widget ( I used Widgetsoid ) to allow me to turn off wireless ( as well as adjust brightness, volume, toggle USB, and turn off GPS ).
Since I'm mostly content with my setup for now, I leave the wireless turned off to conserve battery and avoid the next update. I'd rather wait until I hear from the good folks here that the next update is OKAY before I turn on wireless and let it update. In the meantime, if I need wireless, I can check here just to be sure there is no update waiting to be pushed, flip on the wireless, do what I need, then turn it back off.
Like I said, it's not the best solution, but it works for me, and it's really simple.

Let me ask you something- same situation here.. My wife's just came in the mail today. I'd like to know more about device setup before said "nerd surgery" as I want to do a similar thing.. Did you login with your own amazon account or hers? If I login w/ hers I don't want her to get a "Congrats on your Kindle registration" type of email- as this is a surprise after all.. But- I'm also thinking that if I go ahead and login w/ mine- anything I do as far as loading apps, etc will be wiped out when she has to login w/ hers?
Sorry to be long winded- overall my main question is- Whats the best way to tinker/root/play with this thing w/o giving away any surprises or having to re-do work?
I'd leave it in the box. When my wife's came, she wanted it right away. It auto registered to MY account, not hers. Didn't add anything to it, it just happened.
I had to deregister it and then reregister it to her account. Doing so is like a default reset.
Also, it is going to auto update at least once as they come with 6.1 and 6.2 is the current. Might even be 6.3 or whatever the new OTA is by the time she opens it.
Do you remember if she got an email when you deregistered and assigned it to her account?
Dont recall. I don't read her email so I don't know and I did a quick check of my email and don't see anything either...
I definitely got an email when I registered mine.
