Been running this kernel since I grabbed it from irc. Thank you, adrynalyne. This is fantastic. And thank you, Mrbobrowitz.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're really opposed to CWM, couldn't you just unzip the package, flash the kernel with fastboot and push the file in system/lib using adb?
Anyway, Smartass governor? Wow, having had a Droid X before I feel like I've really been out of the loop. Read up on it, I like it. It's good to have a kernel that I feel I can relate to.

Still charges in cwm when off just displays cwm recovery screen if fastboot is not enabled.

{review} Baked Snack 1.0

We'll, since heros thread kees getting closed before I can post my review ill make my own thread.
First the battery life is deff better than stock. I am currently running 1.4 ghz with no issues at all. I flashed this rom with the latest cwm and it worked perfectly. The phone is very fast, asv I got m first 10.0 with linpack. Also every quadrant score is 1k+.
If you have any questions about my experiance with this rom, ask here. Mods, please don't close my thread. Lol;-)

For one, you're in the wrong forum. This isn't development, at all.
Second, I'm still dubious about the 1.4Ghz. My kernel gives 10 on Linpack without *too* much difficulty. Quadrant scores are also on par, and my kernel only runs at 1.2Ghz.
Third, they closed his thread because he's asking for donations to download it.

i had the same problem with his kernel, i think what happened was that his kernel does not have root incorporated into it (completely a guess and not based on anything lol) so if your rom didnt have the su binaries in it then you would lose root, what ended up working for me was to download the superuser app, update the su binaries and then flash the kernel
As respect to the GPL, please upload it somewhere so people can have a go at it. Paying for open source software is wrong.

Geeknik 1.5 installed on my phone, but I've not seen Geeknik advertise it?

I just installed the newest Blackhole & I got the option to install Geeknik's StupidFast Kernel 1.5 or StupidFast Kernel Test 1.5.4. I am confused because haven't seen anyone else mention this kernel version yet...I installed 1.5, has anyone else? Is this just an error in ROM Manager or is this version out and just no one is talking about it?
I saw that too when I was installing the latest Blackhole rom. I was afraid to try it since I've heard nothing about it in this forum. I also didn't see the original 1.0.36 stable version, so I'm thinking it was titled wrong or something along those lines. Hope we find out soon.
glad you posted it in the right place
The StupidFast kernels v1.4, 1.5, and 1.54 are meant only for DJ05, that's why they aren't posted here. I guess some users have had success with them on DI01, but others have had problems. If you're still on DI01, I'd go with either 1.2.3, 1.1.23, or 1.0.36.

The kernel version numbers are correct and were downloaded from directly from geeknik's website. I'll post the link as soon as I can find it. You have the option to choose not to install a kernel if you are happy with your current kernel, or try one of them, and then flash back to one from the forums if you like. According to his website they are compatible with both firmwares. If people are having issues I will add back the previous versions tomorrow.

There is the changelog for v1.5 and 1.54 I realize that it says that they are compatible, and some people haven't had issues, but others have. If you're still on DI01 and you get issues with one of the 1.5 kernels, I'd roll back to 1.2.3.

Yea, look under Stock Apps in the Rom Manager-Sonofskywalker3 section. It's there.

Questions about kernels

Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to tweaking the fascinate, and had some questions regarding flashing different kernels.
1. What kernel should I flash? I'm running superclean 2.9.2 with nitsuj's gingerbread theme. If there's any more information you need to know, just ask!
2. How would I go about flashing the kernel to my phone?
Thanks!

EDIT: HOLY CRAP. I just downloaded the overclocked kernel that sfournie posted below. I thought that simply using superclean made my phone fast, overclocking makes the thing about as snappy as a chihuahua on a caffeine overdose (Recorded ~1600 benchmark stat). The soundfix is awesome, and the colorfix makes everything lose that stupid blue overtone - so that rocks too! I don't know if that kernel down there is posted in a sticky, but if it isn't, then it should be!
If you have superclean 2.9.2 then you have a variety of options. You can flash an overclocked kernel which will make your fascinate more sharp and crisp, (you need setcpu which you can get from market)
To flash your going to download this zip file, move it to your sd card, then boot into recovery mode, then you want to select install zip from sd card, choose the kernel you downloaded and hit install. Should work fine, just make sure you that you use kernels meant for Superclean 2.9.2
overclocked:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011626
aggresively undervolted: (a little safer, more conservative yet very well performing)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012571
For this one make sure you understand if you have voodoo or nonvoodoo
EDIT:
Here is a great compiled list, you want to find the kernels that are touchwiz kernels.

One thing to note: I've noticed that a lot of people recommend Wiping your Cache and your Dalvik Cache after installing a new Kernel.
You'll also want to wipe your bstats if you plan on sticking with a kernel for a while as it might give you more accurate battery %'s. You can do that by downloading a terminal emulator from the market, running it, type "su" and hit enter (a permissions window might pop up here, just click "Allow"), and then type "bstats" and hit the enter key again. This will immediately reboot your phone. After 1 or 2 complete cycles you should notice better battery life and %'s. Note: You should generally only do this when your phone is fully charged.
Question...I follow your directions. I've installed multiple roms on my old moto droid via manual style and rom manager. However, just switched to the fascinate and installed superclean 2.9.2 as well. When I reboot into recovery though, it doesn't give me the option to install from SD. Do I need to flash to a different recovery? Currently it's latest edition of clockwork mod.
You may have installed many roms, but only one rom is active at a time, otherwise the old roms are just files and don't mean anything (I think).
What recovery mode are you running, what does it say cwm number is? It should definitely have the install zip from sd option, use the volume up down and power key and edit key to navigate.
I figured it out. I had to select the apply update.zip to activate the next menu that actually let me chose to browse the SD

I used to run about 900 with just superclean nonvoodoo which was fine with voodoo (stock kernel) it was about 1000 and then with the undervolted kernel it was around 1500, the overclock i have hit 1800. but i chose the undervolted because it is battery efficient and just a little more practicle while not losing much performance.

Our processor doesn't overclock properly, and the further from 1.0GHz you get, the more "off" it is. People have pushed it to 1.6GHz, but it was found out it wasn't actually running that fast, and anything over 1.1/1.2GHz has had stability issues.
Would there be a reason why my phone will only work with jt's 327_2 kernal none of the others will work even if I do a data wipe they still force close like crazy and if I plug in the phone it just starts restarts its self over and over.

The only thing I can figure out is the rom your using isn't compatible with the kernel look at the link I posted above. Specific kernels are for specific roms other than that they should all work fine. I installed every kernel for superclean rom and they all worked.

Also, yea there will be no BT issue with this one, the problem was from Chainfires initramfs...we have also updated Talon to use Voodoo lagfix/initramfs..will be in next version of Talon

existz..does that mean we should not use chainfire's CWM manger? It seemed a little wonky when I tried to use it to start a CWM backup...

JVP-Voodoo 1.0.0 is SUPER STABLE AND SMOOTH!

[CF-Root-S5830 3.7] CF-Root adaptation for Froyo

-------- 29/08/2011 --------
UPDATE:
update.zip (19.61 MB)
update.zip (mediafire.com link)
Changelog:
- ext4 support bugfix
- BLN support
- Only use busybox in /sbin. Now, no one can break CF-Root's busybox.
- Fix some script in /system/bin reported does not work with CF-Root (am, bmgr, ime, input, monkey, pm, and svc).
With deodexed /system/app and /system/framework, USB and WiFi tethering failed to start. Restoring back /system backup, resolve the problem
Is a wise choice to make a nandroid backup before doing filesystem conversion using ext4 Manager.
-------- 26/08/2011 --------
UPDATE:
update.zip (19.94 MB)
Have a critical bug in init.rc, do not use this for ext2/3/4 fs.
Big thanks to ilarrain and koush! Using ilarrain's patch for pm2.c, now I can use my own compiled kernel for CWM4 without recovery boot loop
Changelog:
- CWM v4.0.0.9, ext4 support
- Auto install CF-Root after update, no need to delete /system/cfroot manually
Zeam Home Screen
Firmware Version
CPU Spy Info
-------- 24/08/2011 --------
UPDATE:
update.zip (12.57 MB)
Changelog:
- Using the latest smartass, interactive, and interactiveX source from erasmux
- Fix bug with cpufreq stats, now the CPU Spy can display the CPU Time In State. Possible problems associated with SOD because CPU frequency is too low. May be Sleep Of Death starting from Sleep tO Deep
NOTE:
Remove cfroot directory in /system to force reinstall CF-Root!
-------- 23/08/2011 --------
I am planning to upgrade to official Indonesia Gingerbread (2.3.4 DXKP9), so I have to flash my device to Froyo. But before go to Samsung Service Center, I tried the implementation of CF-Root in Froyo and here's the result:
update.zip (12.46 MB)
Flash it using Galaxy Ace standard recovery.
It has been tested on Froyo DXKC1 and may not be problematic in other Froyo. Everything at your own risk!
Almost same as CF-Root for Gingerbread, except:
- No tiny RCU implementation
- Have smartass and interactive CPU governer, thanks to psyke83 from http://www.madteam.co/
- Default have 32MB zram swap, thanks to psyke83
- Android Scribble 2.0 boot animation from here, thanks to GLa'DOS
- No BLN support
- The CWM part no ready yet
To enabling smartass governer:
Code:
propset persist.tweak.gov_smartass enabled
To disabling smartass governer and back to ondemand governer:
Code:
propset persist.tweak.gov_smartass disabled
Reserved for future update?
one thing caught my interest, since when u implement smartass cpu governor? any chance of it getting to cfroot for kpn/kph? as always, good job
does it support EXT4 ?
I just jizzed to this topic. 2.2 is actually much faster and lightweight compared to 2.3 and with cfroot I might give up custom roms for 2.3 for a while...

Yes, but the CWM part not ready yet. Do not use ext4 Manager to convert your fs until the CWM part ready.

I am thinking about dual booting.
Dual booting..wow..as always you come with new and fantastic ideas.
Without reflashing again and again we can have two ROMs.
I wish I could multiboot between different custom ROMs!

Will take a lot of work! I'm no developer but I sure know that.
Though cwm must first work with froyo.
Huge thanks to you, ketut.kumajaya.. You made it again!! I'm planning to make a froyo ROM, but I can't find CF-Root for froyo.. And now you made it!

*boot animation didnt work for me.
tried to changed build.prop but still no boot animation.
*wifi dont turn on .... get error when trying to enable it
OK found the problem used DKC1
Wow.. Just flashed to Froyo to get my GB update.. Much appreciated for CF-Root adaptation.. This make it Ultimate Froyo (coincidentally a nice ROM name XD) before getting my official GB upgrade..

Actually I want to bring CF-Root to my wife's Galaxy 5 using psyke83's Galaxy 5 kernel for CyanogenMod.

Using smartass governer, have set it so CPU mode only in Deep Sleep, 245MHz, and 800MHz. Jumping from Deep Sleep to 800MHz. No SOD so far Not sure about battery usage and no report since Froyo not popular here
