release date in uk - Galaxy S II General

the phone is expected in April for the Uk accroding to the carphone warhouse
http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/coming-soon

not again...

Man I wish someone from Samsung would clear this up once and for all

I've heard first week of May a lot, and Three have it under May on their website. Perhaps Carphone Warehouse got it exclusively for a week or two, and it's coming at the end of April for them? Not sure. I think I'll get it with Three though.
(Off topic: I've never been with Three before, but they're the only ones without a 500MB data cap so I feel like I should go with them... Anyone with them and know if they're alright?)

Thanks! I've never had to use customer services with T-Mobile before, so hopefully I won't with Three. Maybe I can do it in my local Three shop if ever I need to.
As to the coverage, I suppose I get a while to test it out anyway, and if it's terrible I can cancel the contract? Will have to see. Thanks again!
Oh and sorry to go off-topic!

My Daughter uses 3 with her SGS and can't fault the service.
She uses the Data quite extensively and is a heavy phone/text user as well.
I know her Data contract says 'unlimited'.

Excellent, I hit the thanks button! Thanks again!
Oh and as to the CPW website, it has a little notice on the SGSII page saying "expected release date subject to change without notice" or something along those lines, I forgot to mention it. But on another thread, some guy said that people in the CPW store told him that it's coming first week of April, which is very impressive if it's true!

it really depends on where you are.. i'm in bristol and the reception is poor compare to my friends on vodafone or o2. i can't even get a signal in my room..-.- anyway will be going with CPW next time cuz i dun want to have a carrier-locked phone.

i used to be on 3 but when to work got no signal so switched to orange i think there better and also on phones 4 u there expecting april release

No problem with going 'Off-Topic', it happens all the time but we usually manage to reel the comments back in again....
Just to give further info on what I said before (as there have been a few comments that the 3 service has a low reception rate), I know when my Daughter phones me from the Yorks/Derbys/Notts areas I have no issues in speaking with her.
I have now asked her to confirm what her reception is like with others in both Data & Voice/Text and she reiterates she has absolutely no issues with the 3 service again using her SGS.
....and we are back On Topic.
Many thanks for the Thank-You vote, it all gets converted to a worthy cause.

We've been told to expect stock the first week of May at a £40 monthly fee for the phone to be free.

I really wish companies would stop doing this.
They make an announcement, release the specs, but fail to give a release date!
This is one thing Apple have nailed, other companies should really learn from them.
I'm holding out to buy one, but with phones like the Atrix and the 2G coming soon, I don't know whether I can wait without a solid release date.

I was with 3. Had to go to the ombudsman to get out of the contract. I kept losing signal.
As someone has already posted. This is a very good deal
Vodafone, free phone. £35.00 per month. And a free gift.

do you mind telling how you managed get out of your contract? cuz i'm having the same problem and would love to move to other carriers as soon as possible.
ps. sorry for going off-topic again!

i put in a complaint to these guys. Here
first i had to complain to three, which i did. but there network was the problem.
then the guys at that link looked into it and told three to drop the contract.

Very strange but these guys claim that they have S2 available. I wonder if they really have it. They are somehow associated with CPW but its not available on CPW website
[www orangemobileshop.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s2-orange.aspx[/url]

Mobiles.co.uk is part of The Carphone Warehouse,
they are taking pre orders.

HTC HD2 - Pre-Order or Wait?

As the title says, What would you do? Pre-Order expecting stock to be non existant when actually released? or wait for o2 to give away their hand?
I am on o2 don't want to move to another service provider, definatly want the phone as soon as its out or as near as. My contract isn't due till july
I do have some cash that I can use to buy but not ideal (the gaffa will kill me).
Paying off my existing contract will be cheaper than buying the HD2 but then I won't be able to upgrade for 18months.
or buy the phone and in less than 9 months I can get another one and sell it.
I just don't know. Do I think about things too much? LOL
Either way I will have my HD for sale as soon as I get the HD2! Whats a fair price?
Personally I'd wait. There's always problems when a new thing comes out, whether it's not enough stock to go around (remember all the stuff with the HD from mobiles.co.uk this time last year?) or technical problems that need ironing out. It's usually best to let all the hooha die down and let everyone else put up with and solve all the issues
I know what you mean, I got my HD from mobiles.co.uk but didn't experience any problems, process was smooth and got the phone really quick.
Also just found the HD2 for £499 which is much cheaper than most other places. God its so hard not to click buy buy buy!!
Oh dear my finger slipped. Got it for £494.95 + Delivery.
Anyone want a Mint HD?
Where is it that price please?

MobileFun £499 with this Promotional Code "MFAWOCT9" Job Done!!!
Just a waiting game now!! I am so impulsive!! LOL
Thanks, might join the 'impulsive buyers union', although the seeming lack of a front camera on the HD2 is a potential stumbling block for me...
Cheers for the heads-up Richard.
I'm currently on a monthly SIM only contract with O2, and spoke to them yesterday about upgrading when they get the phone. I was strongly considering doing that, but I reckon I'll pay mobilefun a visit and then sell my HD to make back half the cost.
Nice - thanks
Edit: Ooooh - just noticed the release date of 11/11/09. O2 is looking appealing again!
Also on sim only with o2 at the moment - they seemingly don't let you upgrade until you've been on sim only for 6 months though for some reason, so I think if I want it before February (when I'll have been with them for 6 months) I will need to buy it, and stick on the cheap sim only deal.
Oh, and does anyone know when mobilefun charge your card - on order or on dispatch? Thanks!

Your welcome, Thats exactly my plan now. I think you can upgrade 3 months early on o2 18 month contracts too so in april I can get another and sell it. Then the original HD2 won't of cost me a bean. If all goes to plan that is. LOL

I am a little dissapointed they give new hardware and take some other hardware away from us at the same time but I think they have realised that Video calling just hasn't taken off so they probably don't see the point of having a front camera.
I can count on 1 hand how many times I have used it since having a Diamond and my HD.
My girlfriend might see it differently as she uses the front camera as a mirror sometimes! lol

skank - ask them to put you through to cancellations and ask them the same question. Yesterday, the CS girl I spoke to told me exactly the same thing as you, but put me through to cancellations because I had a query about cancelling my contract and when it would take effect. The girl in cancellations checked and said that they can do 2 types of credit check. One of them means you can't upgrade within the first 6 months, but the other means you can upgrade whenever you want. She said since they'd done a full credit check on me when I joined, I could upgrade immediately, so I'll probably go for that IN 10 DAYS TIME!!!! when the phone is supposed to become available.
It sounded like the CS staff don't really have the full picture, but the cancellations staff know a bit more. They were really helpful.
Good luck!
Thanks John. I did go to cancellations when I called but the guy seemed a bit dopey. Might call back. He was saying it might depend on whether or not I was with o2 before I went sim only, which I wasn't.
Same here - I was with Orange until they did that whole price change blunder. I was one of the lucky ones who got out of the contract and immediately moved to a virgin sim only deal. The coverage was sooooooo bad that I moved to O2. I've only been with them a week and they were more than happy to upgrade me.
Maybe you're right - call back and cross your fingers that you get someone a bit more clued up. I really should have asked the girl I spoke to for her name as I expect the next person I speak to will say "No. Can't upgrade you." and I'll then be outside the 14 day cancellation period.
I just thought i'd post this up, a reply I just got from o2 regarding the HD2. Doesn't really bother me now I have pre-ordered but some of you may be interested.
Good afternoon Richard
Thanks for emailing us about your phone query. I understand that you're interested in buying an HTC HD2 and want to know when it'd be available with us. Let me quickly look into this matter.
Richard, you'll be excited to know that this fantastic phone will soon be available with us. However, I'm unable to comment on when this phone will be launched as it's due to be released in the future. As soon as its available with us, it'll be immediately updated on our website.
Cheers Richard.
The girl I spoke to said that O2 has a release date of 19/10/09, but it's not official yet, as they're still "going through checks". That date can be put back. Basically, they'll put it on the website as soon as they have a definite and confirmed release date.
Need now to figure out how to sleep for a week and a half without starving or getting sacked, just to make the day come quicker! lol
Just called o2 and they said definitely no upgrade before 6 months, for anyone. You might want to call and check john!
I know you can't get a PAC and use it on the same network, but is it possible to go from o2 simplicity - orange PAYG - o2 contract with HD2?
Surely it is...

Well I hope to have more luck than you're having. The girl I spoke to said I didn't even need to go via the PAYG route to keep my number. I was considering a 14 day cancellation, then an O2 PAYG, then an O2 contract.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see. If I get anyone helpful again, I'll make sure to get their name (and possibly number), and pass it on to you.

June 19th info!

Just in case you really need to know. June 19th is when tmo anounces the slide through commercials and they r having a father's day special event they r going to announce too. Not as big a deal as everyone thinks.
So why are they opening 2 hours early, and where the heck is my froyo, tmo rep told mewe'de have it on launch,I need apps2sd,my phone is outta storage,i'm going to curse someone at tmobile out.htc and google should have never let tmobile have any say in this device cause they oveloaded it with bull**** you cant delete,im so friggin angry,I just want control over my phone and nobody can even root it,AGGGHHHHH!!! Sorry just had to get that out.
I think you've let it out in everyone of your post in the Slide section.. I'm sure your 14 day return period isn't up. RETURN IT.
A friend of mine who works for TMO told me that they are rolling out a new store design. They've had several of the concept stores open in certain test markets for almost 3 years. I worked for them when they were planning these interactive and user friendly stores with video tech support on site.
While I think it's cool and all, I'm more interested in them improving network service and offering phones that aren't outdated the moment you slip your SIM in.

all i have to say that is if a Tmo rep told you froyo would be ready when the phone comes out, promptly insert your foot in his a** with EXTREME prejudice!!
Dispite contrary belief, not all T-Mo reps know every single thing that T-mobile is up to. Some of us actualy have a life outside of work. Also, we are not all out to give everyone the shaft. Some of us realy try to help people the best we can. I get chewed out quiet often for going "too far".

As donepate stated, you are speaking to another human, NOT T-mobile as an object. If that rep heard a rumor online he could have easily passed it along to you. Thats why unless there is OFFICIAL news from T-mobile you should always take information about upcoming releases of updates/phones with a grain of salt. Typically T-mobile employees know about the official launches barely before they launch to avoid any leaked information and or upsets if deadlines aren't met.
If you've read the official HTC comments however you will know that its stated to have FROYO within a number of 2010 Android phones within the year of 2010. That is as specific as it gets however.

Official release date for the slide is the 16th. They have not even told the reps much. It could be lower prices for a day, a giveaway in the stores, or the planets may be comming into alignment. Its all guesses for now. I am fairley sure that its slide related in some way though. Just have no idea what it is. If I get any info i'll pass it along.

I believe the buyers remorse period will still be 14 days. That's what I am getting.
I keep reading "Official" release date is the 19th, but I simply walked up to my local store and bought it last week... are you using the term "officially" as a moment to define when they'll "advertise" it...?
They have a soft launch (June 2nd) and a hard launch which, shown to me on the computer from a t-mobile rep, is the 16th not 19th
According to TmoNews.com it's going to be a Father's Day sale with all phones free
They are going to announce the Galaxy S on the 19th. The Galaxy S will go on sale sometime in July ... just got that from a VERY reliable Tmobile source. I'm probably going to be sending the slide back ... my G1 will tide me over till the Galaxy comes around.

Tmobile Credit

Might be inappropriate in this forum, if so I apologize. But if you are posting to 'Samsung Vibrant General', then you have Tmobile...
I called TMO again asking for any update regarding the GPS bug, they gave me the same old script.
I asked if there was anything they could do to credit or compensate my account for the lack of functionality.
I was put on hold for 1 minute and then was given a $20 statement credit.
Maybe if they have to dish out plenty of those, they'll also get on Samsung's back harder.
Good Luck.
bugging tmob and asking for credits does nothing to help with fixing the gps problem, especially since they have pretty much nothing to do with the issue. if you don't like the phone or can't live without gps, return it until it's fixed.
What lack of functionality? GPS?

They notate this stuff on your account so I hope you use your freebies wisely. People getting credits in other threads won't have much leeway when they're asking for a 1 year upgrade or anything else. It really does nothing. Complaining does more than asking for a bill credit.

i won't call tmob about this, this is a samsung problem. i don't see why you feel entitled to a $20 credit from a company who isn't providing the service that isn't working.
if your blu ray player stops working do you call your cable company and ask for a credit to your bill?

On a phone released by t-mobile ... money is money i don't care who is at fault the fact is t-mobile can get you something for your trouble now. I did this as well over a week ago. Nice move
If you don't think this is such a bright idea because its Samsungs problem well I guess you don't like free money off your bill; who cares where the blame is if either of them are giving something for the troubles I suggest we do it.
Anyone get somewhere with Samsung? I highly doubt it but would love to know if they are offering anything up for the GPS issue.

what makes you think this is free money? for every credit tmob gives for an invalid reason (like gps not working on a phone that tmobile doesn't make), that delays things like hspa+ expansion, getting more and better phones available, etc. not to mention the fact that a bunch of people calling and asking for this credit is going to make a lot of customer care reps miserable, at least that was my experience when i worked customer care for tmob years ago.
if you are so unhappy with the phone, return it. but as far as tmob goes, you are receiving all the services you are paying them for with this phone.

I'm happy with my phone and personally I never use the GPS for anything hense why i don't really care.
Here is my point and i will shut up. We have these phones there is a "problem" and t-mobile can give you "something" for your troubles. i suggest you take it. Tmobo reps are there to serve I don't care if I bug them its there job. Its not like the CS reps are the developers for Samsung when we aren't calling. Plus this doesn't hinder the development in fact its the opposite they actually will press Samsung in the future for a better product as well as increase there testing of said product.
At least in theory.
my two cents
JTHM for life
so i take it when you get your credit card bills, you ask the post office to pay part of it since the mail did not make you happy and they delivered it?
or when you buy clothing that tears up early or has some bad material etc, do you go to the store and ask for money.
you either take it back or you keep it, outside of that there is nothing else they will do. If you bug tmobo reps over something they or tmobile has control over that is one thing. Do you thing tmo just said, "hey samsung, release a defective item, we dont care".
and when you say tmobile can give you "something", thats really liberal, they didnt say, for your troubles take this, you said "for my troubles i want this". big difference

I'm not coming back to this topic again and I know the person I quoted isn't coming back either, but I just had to say this.
Look at what is in bold in the quote. T-Mobile isn't giving us "something" for our troubles. You, or the OP(whomever it is), is "asking" for credit. If T-Mobile offered me free credit, then hell yeah I'll take it, but I'm not going to ask for credit unless it's appropriate. For example, the stupid salesman at the T-Mo store didn't charge me $249 for the phone like they were suppose to, so I had to ask for a $15 credit, which I deserve since they promised me a full upgrade price.
If I was having issues with the phone, I would just return it for a refund and then rebuy it when it's fixed or a better phone comes out.
That's it, bye.
true i agree on that money is money
i have had any problems with GPS so far, but i had also did the fixes that was available, so far it works great, but money is money and if their is a way i can get something off my bill from my service provider whether its there fault or not i will do that.

you're right and you're wrong and heres why... Cell service carriers are ultimately responsible for the phones used on their network since they are the ones who limit our choices of models in the first place. If Tmo didnt require its users to choose from a list of cell phones they authorize then I wouldnt hold them accountable for them, but since they do i expect them to have fully researched and tested all models that they impress upon us to buy. If I could buy my phone directly from the manufacturer and choose my service provider from there then I would only hold the manufacturer responsible. I understand the difficulty GSM CDMA TDMA and varying network bands but this is the situation the carriers have gotten themselves into due to competing strategies. If t mobile is willing to issue these credits to then i can only assume that they understand this as well. and since applications like google maps latitude navigation and telenav all require GPS and a data connection to send back and forth i would have to disagree with you again that i am in fact not receiving all the services i am paying them for with this phone. each of these are bundled in the 95% functional phone that t mobile sold me and each of these are why i pay $30 every month to tmo for my data plan
In all Honesty O have been with TMO for 8 years and they have always been fair with me. the last thing they did for me which they were in noway responsible or have to do, was to help me with the HD2. I was trying to get this phone from Walmart for 50, because that was a walmart sell. After 2 days walmart totally screwed up my account and wouldn't sell me the phone. TMO straightened everything out and sent me the HD2 for $50.
Now if you feel that TMO is at fault for the GPS sure call them and get the $20
But have you tried getting into the GPS menu and enabling Skyhook? This works fantastically
*#*#1472365#*#*
Application Settings
Use Skyhook = ON
Back out of the menu
As for getting a credit from the cable company for the faulty box I can guarantee you that if it was a problem from the manufacturer with every box they wouldn't credit you, but wait for a firmware update.
IMO TMO should do the same. this is a samsung problem since other phones have no problems with GPS on TMO's Network

Sprint, Airave, and upgrading a line

I'm trying to buy a phone to replace my wife's POS Samsung Moment. She wants the Evo, so I called Sprint a few weeks ago to order her one. I was prepared to pay full price for the Evo since neither myself nor my wife is due for an upgrade, but the sales rep on the phone took a look at my lines (I have 4 phones plus a "line" for my Airave) and told me that she was going to upgrade me based on the Airave upgrade eligibility. Dumb me, I actually argued with her and told her that it wasn't a phone, and she acknowledged it but said that it would save me money and make me a happy customer. Hey - whatever she can do, that's great, so let's jump on that! Bad news - they were out of stock of the Evo AND the Evo Shift, and I flat refused to get her the Epic (I am not a fan of Sprint's CURRENT Samsung offerings...but would love to look at the Nexus S.)
On a Friday afternoon trip, she decided she'd had enough of her phone locking up, so she wanted to stop by the Sprint store. After waiting in there for about an hour and a half (I expect crap service there, and am never disappointed...) the sales rep brought us out a white Evo (what she really wanted.) However, when we explained what the Sprint sales rep on the phone was going to do, he acknowledged that he HAD done that before, but he'd gotten into trouble for it. He was adamant that he wasn't going to do it for us, and while I was perturbed, I wasn't going to ask him to jeopardize his job. He told me that the reps on the phone shouldn't have offered either.
So who was right? I admit it sounds fishy to try and skirt the prices by "upgrading" an Airave, but if the phone rep wasn't so quick to offer to do it, I'd be calling shenanigans. I don't *want* to pay full price, but if I can save $150, I'd be stupid not to.
We didn't buy it - I'm going to try calling back and getting the Nexus S when it's released and see if I can get the same offer.
I don't think they are supposed to upgrade an Airave line. If they do then that probably would mean you'd have to send in the Airave and be stuck with that number as an additional line.
You can do one of two things.
1. Ask for the manager, listen to what he/she tells you, then ask for like an area or district manager about the data lockup with the Moment. Also remind them that it's also illegal against the FCC for any type of phone in service or not to not be able to dial out to an emergency number such as 911, and when the lockup starts on the Moment, you can't call out at all.
or
2. With Sprint, if you've had your phone replaced three times due to a hardware or software issue you've been having then Sprint offers you an early upgrade.
With both of these Sprint will offer you an early upgrade, but most likely it will not be an Evo, or they will offer you a discount on some phones to upgrade to.

You mentioned lockup - I've been lazy and haven't researched her issue, but that's EXACTLY the problem...the phone just freezes. Can you provide any link to information regarding that? It's well out of warranty and this would be the first time we're reporting this, unfortunately.
Sprint had made it very clear to all reps not to use the upgrade on the Airave line. Many people have done it in the past but in no way should they be doing so now, it does put your job on the line believe it or not.
And as far as what the guy above said, it's not that easy.

I have no reason to believe it doesn't. Perhaps I just talked to someone who didn't care
So why does the airave show the upgrade eligibility? If it can't/isn't supposed to be used, then take that visibility away from the customer. That would simplify things greatly, and no one would be having this discussion in the first place.
Once i got my airvana my account did the same thing. My wife should be available for the 150 but it switched to the airvana now. I dont know whats going to happen when she goes in for the upgrade either.

Because the system shows it as a line, simple as that. Your car shows it can go 150mph, do you use it?

Call in and have it fixed, assuming she didn't lose her upgrade because of the premier program change.

Well, *MY* car doesn't show 150, but if I need to use it, I could
Just playing devil's advocate here - not disagreeing. I understand, just being argumentative with your example...

Hah it's cool, it's a forum. Theres no way for Sprint to remove an upgrade from a line and since the airave shows as an additional line it has an upgrade. Bugs that cost more to fix then leave alone and educate reps about I guess.

LOL - I'm a SME/Senior Support tech for a large software company - you're preaching to the choir about bugs that cost too much to fix - or development WON'T fix

Can't you get around this by just going into Bestbuy, RS, or wirefly, then telling them you want to upgrade the 'airave number', it'll show up qualifying as a upgrade, then you buy the phone for the upgrade price (usually the same as a new customer), and walk out, then switch your airave back to that number in a day or two via the sprint site or calling sprint.
Going to try this, since we have 3 lines, all go on a $150 discount (saving them for the EVO 3D) and an airave with a $150 discount, too, which I want to use now on a Nexus S 4G.
Yeah, yeah, this is kind of unfair and cheating the system, but it's Sprint's fault/error/issue, and I'm pissed that I've been getting 0 - 150k from the tower by my house for 5 months now and they don't seem to care. 4G is like 500k tops, unless you're standing across the street from the tower, then it's 2k, which is barely faster than 3G's optimal speed. :|

give it a couple of days buddy, they always give priority to new customers which is annoying!
Bit weird. It's £49.99 on a £35pm 24-month contract, but free on a 18month. Opted for that with my 40% for a £21 a month 18 month deal! Comes tomorrow

I noticed that on the Panther 35 deal. Must be a mistake.
Are you saying you have a 40% discount on line rental? How comes?
Thanks.
Glad I got mine from phones4u, free phone £20/month for 24 months.
I wonder if this is the nfc version straight from orange

Fail. I've been saying this to EVERYONE in the U.K
DON'T BE ON ORANGE NETWORK if you're planning to use a smartphone!!!
Their 3G network is a bag of SH*TE....
I've done tests on here already. Networks like vodafone are 4 times faster than Orange...
Sad to see more and more people selling their souls to Orange.
Depends on where you live and use your phone, but my next contract renewl will determine if I like them.

I work for them, and it was only released yesterday, lol

I have been on Orange for a few years and havent found their 3G network too bad - are the other networks really much better?

It all depends on where you live. Some areas are bad (not just rural and urban) but in Chelmsford, T-Mobile is quite rubbish.
Hopefully the 3G Orange-TMobile merger will bring better signal for the areas that haven't got it so good atm.

I sort of agree. Their data speeds aren't too clever, but I use wifi most of the time, so doesn't really affect me too much. I'm sticking with orange for my upgrade discounts.
I am tempted to get this phone, but there seems to be so many problems with this handset that I am being put off.
Hopefully the Apple conference on Monday will change my mind

Ewwww Apple. One thing to remember, this phone sold and is still selling at a RAPID rate...
The forums is where many people go to share the problems. Doesn't necessarily mean that the majority of GSII's will have these problems.
I'm also eagerly awaiting for Monday...want to see iOS widgets and how much of a copy of Android they are!
