[Q] no respond in touch but all hard key working - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi everyone,
I am using HD2 more than 1 year. I used SD version android in my phone. After few month, my phone freeze in android also in WM platform. All hard keys are working but no response in touch. Even cant unlock the phone when phone starts.
Then I sent it to HTC service in sweden. They repair it and sent me back.
After few days, I am facing the same problem. Even I have installed HSPL (1,2,3,4), updated radio. Also Installed NAND Android.
Now its starts with android but no touch key works at all. (All hard keys working). What can I do now? I need help. Please, anyone, any suggestions?

Sorry about that! Looks like the touchscreen is damaged or faulty! Send it back to repairs! Happened to me but i had no warranty
Note: Next time post in android Q&A section

Digitizer
Your digitizer failed to respond, therefore, you have to send it for repair unfortunately.
On a sidenote, you posted this in the wrong section. Please be careful with this the next time you start a thread

Well thats odd.. I am facing the exact same problem since today! And ive read on a
number of sites that this is caused by the excessive use of the end-call button (screen on / screen off)..
Sounds plausible as my HD2 is dated from december 2009..
In my case the touch screen works fine after I take out the batterij and reboot.
But as soon as I use the end-call button I am facing problems..
A quick workaround is to install "screen off and lock" from market and place
a shortcut on you homescreen to turn off your display and NEVER use the
hardware end-call button again.
Or send the HD2 to HTC repairs and wait 2~4 weeks or worse..
Edit: Found another trick that actually works.
"The digitiZer is under the hangup button. press the button bit hard till it nudges the digitiser a little. it worked for me."

The had the same problem happen to me. I had hspl and android on it so I flashed the stock wm6.5 rom and took it to T-Mobile where they were able to get the touch screen to respond to touch. Since then, I've reflashed mdj's cm7 android and no problems. But I agree, I believe the red/end call key is the blame.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App

Does anyone do Searches anymore? I posted about this already:

Send it back to service center.
As I'm told since mine been in twice to the repairs for the same error, we have 2 years warranty on HTC devices in Sweden.

Thank you all.
@ CaCtuZ123 (sweden).
thank you for your advice. Did they (Anovo Nordic who is responsible for HTC in sweden) your phone or they just fixed it?
Coz last time, I sent it to them (service center) and they just fixed it. Now I am afraid to send it, maybe they will just fix it and I will get trouble again.

Touchscreen does not react

Today I used my HD like always. When I picked it up and tried to unlock it, the screen did not react. It does not react to any kind of push on the touchscreen or on the 4 touch buttons. The device starts as it has always, but I can't do anything with it. In the last couple of days I have not installed any additional software, so that can't be it either.
Soft resetting does not work either.
The device is fully loaded, has updated original rom.
Can anyone help me
Try HardReset (VolUp+VolDown then 1click PowerOn, follow display): if this isn't usefull -> Customer Service
D'rath
PS: HR erases all
After the hard reset the screen goes to a message saying: tap screen to set up your device.
I still can't tap the screen so the hard reset ends there...
Is there someone who knows a solution, if not I will have to send it back to the factory or something.
i had that bother with mine, it turned out that it was the orange rom that was causing all the problems. I put in dutty's 3.4 and that solved it
My provider is T-mobile. This means no special rom is on my hd. Is it wise to put Dutty's rom on my hd, with the thought that i might want to sent it back to HTC? Can I after putting Dutty's rom on it and finding out it still does not work put another rom on there leaving no trace of dutty's rom?
If you still have the original rom on it, seems to me that the best option is to send it off under warranty.
+1 Anfloyd say true ^^
Better solution if under warranty
D'rath
Most likely a fault with the digitizer. Happened to mine and quite a number of others. I had mine fail and had to get it repaired.
Than that is what I will do.
Thanks for the advice all!

I have same problem with my HD!
So what was cousing problem - software(ROM) or hardware?
And did waranty cover it?
I have this with most of the newer ROMs and with all W6.5 roms.
Try to flash to a version from around april of this year.
I have this problem also - luckily for me I live in Milton Keynes and the HTC repair centre is just round the corner from me. I have taken it there for repair under warranty. Will let you know what they say when I get it back....which hopefully will be today.
Hi guys ,
i have the same problem .
Touchscreen stopped to work. It was up but not possible to tap anything.
I think to change digitizer and then all the lcdscreen.
Is possibile to change only the digitizer ?

yes it is possable to change the digitizer but it is easier to replace both digitizer+lcd

HD2 Screen Unresponsive

My phone became unresponsive yesterday. I was able to flash the stock ROM and HSPL back to 2.8000 before I sent it back.
I talked to the tech for a bit and he said that this is a common problem they have encountered. Maybe I'll have a replacement by the end of this week.
I flashed 8 different ROMs with no success.
How old was the phone before it went out? Screen separation/button issues or did the screen just stop? Drop it or some other physical damage?
Had the same problem, Updated to new rom 3.xx whatever and the phone went dead.
Workaround found
I found a work around, I have only tried this in android. Press the power button to turn the screen on, Then when it comes on it will not be responsive.
However if you turn the screen off then back on and try and unlock it it will respond and also i have noticed if the phone wakes it self up it will be responsive again.

+1. I too got annoyed to be using such a crappy workaround.. So called up HTC and sent the phone for warranty repair yesterday. Lets see how it goes.. I bought the phone off craigslist and HTC confirmed that its manufacture date was June'10.
I also put a note with steps to recreate this error. After some reflashing ROM/ Radio, my touchscreen started working again, but when I pressed Power button first time, the screen froze.. So I put that down in the steps.
Got my new phone... Quickly went back to hspl3 and back to android. the problem with my old phone was a loose windows button.

What exactly did you tell them when sending it in? Did you just tell unresponsive touch screen or what? My phone's touchscreen was not responding at all, but for some reason it started working again using the power button trick.
This is what happened to me:
I sent my phone to HTC and those idiots just flashed a fresh OS and sent it back as-is. I had sent a paper with steps to recreate the error, but the jokers are dumb enough to not even read it.
Called back HTC and they are sending a prepaid label to send it back! Wtf.. company run by idiots..
I have the same problem here. The trick doesn't work for me
I have same problem ... it's completely unresponsive now.
I'm sending it back to HTC
BTW, this could be the reason why my touch screen died

SECTION 7-WARRANTY RETURNS
As much as I would like to say that it doesn't happen, the HD2 does indeed sometimes completely fail because of user error, or just plain hardware faults and must be returned to either T-Mobile or HTC. The warranty process can be a scary one, especially if you HardSPL'd your phone or installed a custom ROM. But fear not! You can get your device back to stock rather easily! In this section I am going to cover the more common HD2 failures and their solutions, as well as how to revert back to your stock carrier ROM and SPL for warranty purposes. Now, this guide assumes that you bought your HD2 from a T-Mobile store and that you are a T-Mobile USA customer. If you purchased your HD2 through an online reseller, or are not with T-Mobile USA, the only option you have is to send your device to HTC directly and have them repair it. See the bottom of this section for more info.
Q1-MY TOUCHSCREEN DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE! WHAT HAPPENED? DID SOMEONE SET ME UP THE BOMB?
A-Where you running Android? For some reason, there seems to be a connection between touchscreen failure and running Android on the HD2. No one currently knows why it happens more often under Android, but it does happen. Please run Android at your own risk. If your screen fails under WinMo, it's more than likely just a strange hardware quirk, and not because of what you are running.

[Solved] HTC HD2 Touchscreen not working, not responding, frozen, malfunctioning

The Problem: My HTC HD2 touchscreen has progressively gotten worst over 2 months. At first, the keyboard was typing up wrong alphabets, then major function keys begun to malfunction, and later the whole screen. From XDA reviews, I found that changing Radio, WM, or Android ROM do not help.
Solution:
This instruction may apply to Tmobile USA users. In my search for a Do-It-Yourself fix, I searched internet for several days to no avail. Amazon.com sells Touchscreen and Digitizer but their results were inconsistent; the replacement also required time, skills & instruments that I do not have.
Tmobile: Tmobile (800 number) asked me to restore OS, but it did not work. They asked me to take it in the Tmobile store. The store associate looked at the phone, but they did not want to do anything with the phone as I did not buy my phone from Tmobile - they directed me to HTC or a local repair shop. Local repair shop was going to charge $100 for a repair and turn around time of 15 days.
HTC : I called HTC (888 356 2375). As the phone was still under warranty, they offered to take a look at it & repair it. HTC also mentioned that if the warranty is void for any reason, they would charge $39.00 for a triage fee and call me to confirm the repairing cost (in addition to triage fee). HTC mentioned that any illegal softwares found on the device would void the warranty.
Restore to OEM:
I had to restore my softwares to OEM as I installed a newer radio, HSPL, MAGLDR, and a custom windows ROM. To do so, following ROM was flashed :
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50 .07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship
Flashing above ROM restored ORIGINAL OEM radio, SPL, and Windows ROM. It also removed MAGLDR.
After restoring softwares to OEM, I sent the phone in. The repair was done by HTC without any charge. After sending the phone in, I had my phone back in 1 week - fairly quick service compared to all the other options I had at hand.
In the process, HTC kept me informed via email regularly. I talked to several HTC reps and they were very accommodating and courteous. I mentioned to HTC that my battery drains very easily. Promptly (in 2 days), HTC sent me a replacement battery for free. They mentioned that as long as the phone is under warranty, they will replace accessories ONCE for free. I will buy HTC again despite the touchscreen problem.
Immediately after receiving the phone, I installed newest Radio, HSPL, MAGDLR & my first Android NAND [HD2_Core_Droid_Desire_HD_V1.4_NAND_ONLY_LEO1024_TOUS]. The android ROM is rocking even harder straight out of box.
Enjoy.
Had the same, perfect service from HTC.
Got it back in a box that said "im back" .. Took 4 weeks though.
This made my decision to stay with HTC in the future.
Same problem, possible not yet solved
My UK T-Mobile HD2 started this in December 2010, I found that 3 or 4 hard resets got it going, but the next day it did it again so sent to T-Mobile repair center, they stripped it put it back together. No Fault Found. Updated the firmware (well re-installed it as there was no newer version avaialble at the time and sent it back to me.
It worked a treat for 5 weeks then the problem was back. Sent away again, Firmware update. No Fault Found (T-Mobile had now released the 3.14 ROM) so I did get an update this time, again came back working. Even better this time as the new radio version allowed me to run an SD Android Build.
You know where this is going, lasted 3 or 4 weeks, same again, Back to T-Mobile Store, this time I did not try a hard reset prior to taking it in, so they could see the fault, I did one reset in store and the fault persisted as it always did after the first two or three, and then off to the repair centre again.
Its due back in the next day or two, No Fault Found!!! Firmware updated
I guess it will be going back again a 3 to 5 weeks.
Perhaps I should drop an e-mail to HTC to see if they can help.
Do you know what they did to yours, did they replace anything?
Cheers Bashy...
My display was soo broken that an firmware upgrade didnt help, not even for a second.
On the repair note (0eu) it said that my screen was replaced.
I had the same problems as in the OP.
Running beter then ever now.

No doubt, Tmobile attempts to be helpful. But, I consider HTC, as a manufacturer, to be well-prepared to deal with their own product's issues. If you have these problems repeatedly, I recommend you contact HTC directly. They may send you a new replacement instrument altogether. I had several positive surprises from HTC.
HTC No Longer Repairs HD2
I know this is an old thread, but I have an HD2 with a digitizer that quit working that I wanted fixed. I just called HTC and was told that they have not been able to find a proper way to fix the phone and that they would not be able to repair it even if I paid them. This came from the customer service manager. Both the service rep and I were left without words. He couldn't believe that this was the response as he has never heard of such a thing. HTC has taken the HD2 out of their repair database. Seems pretty sketchy to me. Obviously they know about the problem and it sounds like they should issue a recall on the product if it consistently breaks on people with normal use and they have no way of repairing it.
HD2 screen not working
They fixed mine on Feb 22, 2011 for free under a warranty. I suggest you do not give them the diagnosis of digitizer is not working. Instead, just tell them the problems you have and let them tell you what is wrong with the phone.
If is going to cost an arm and a leg to fix the phone or a 1 month of outage from cellphone, I recommend you get a new phone from Craigslist or eBay. HD2 are dirt cheap now. Good luck.
hd2 is dead

Yep - i'm not surprised. I purposely bought the HD2 to get dual boot setup. Lasted two months and then screen stopped responding when screen locked. Eventually could not unlock at all. I stripped the phone, put in new screen and digitiser and new keypad buttons and then flashed back to original rom too.
GUESS WHAT??? STILL BUSTED.
So you can try many fixes found online, but I reckon once it busted don't waste your money just bin it.

From what i've seen too, it is very difficult to actually repair the digitizer without causing new secondary problems. I paid my repair shop over 155 usd to repair an hd2 with usb and touchscreen problems and they just replaced the virtually the entire hd2 (mainboard+LCD+digitizer). And it still had problems in the end!

hey dood, i had nand on my US tmoble HD2 touch screen went out, i have a few posts you should follow if you are going for warranty.
i had to download the software from the tmoble website..... You will need an IMEL number for this ...... or go and try to find your stock rom on the interwebs...... have a secondary SD card (not the one in your phone) follow the SPECIFIC steps and drop your new file on the new sd card and replace it with the one in your phone then follw normal booting steps in the tri color screen.,..... i do have a post that is a quck rundown with a little bit more info........ but the main thing is.... if you send it for warranty you have to put YOUR (country/carrier specific) stock rom on or they will fully charge you....... hope this helps....... other than that its a phone issue i belive its the screen digitizers.... so if not under warranty thats what it will cost to fix
Thank you
Thank you. that helped me as well.

I have problem with my X8 touch

Hi, a few weeks I have x8. From the first day I noticed that both his work and touch began to do what you will, that is not where it reacts a touch of disparate places, open your applications which are not adequate to the touch with my finger. To do so, leave a screen with power button and still enable him to become adequate. Began to happen more often, sometimes even after the first minute. How to fix a similar problem? Defect Is? I do not believe any of that is rooted because as I said from day one I made such an impression, even while he was in Android 1.6. The time now is with 2.1 and continues to behave the same way.
Wove problem still is present! Even after a master reset and recover with PC Companion. Everything is back to original i rooted it again, etc. but inadequate behavior of touch is their stay.
How to deal with such a problem any idea?
Sorry for my english. I used google translate.

better ask for a new one, you bought a new phone, not a repaired one...
me too i had a problem with touchscreen. I sent my phone to SE for repairing in warranty on 5 April, now i don't have it yet
A months ago my phone had another problem with the radio (gsm and 3g) and SE repaired it in 2 weeks

Weird HD2 unresponsive screen

Now I've read about a problem of the hd2 having digitizer problems and that only a replacement will fix the unresponsive touchscreen issue. But why is it that when I can get my touchscreen to work that it works flawlessly until it goes to sleep? Then i have to continually wake and swype and sleep over and over until it responds. It just seems very weird that after it wakes that it never seems to have a problem. I'm using the miui rom right now and have set the screen to never go to sleep. So I want to see how long it will go without this problem. Has anyone else seen this happening with their phone as well?
Make sure the kernel, and Rom are up to date.
I have that too on an AOSP Gingerbread rom. The screen is not unresposive per se but calibration seems off some times, strage for a capacitive screen.
ive had the problem with android before and there were a few different fixes ...
one fix was to turn off compatibility mode
another was kernel
ive also had the problem with wp7 ( nothing a few hard resets and patience couldnt cure )
either way good luck
well since my first post, i hadn't let the phone go to sleep once and it worked perfectly fine. so i decided to turn off compatibility mode and let it go to sleep.... and when i woke it and i slid my fingers down it actually worked. so far it's worked every time. why would compatibility mode mess up the touchscreen though?
i have NO earthly idea! just a little tidbit i picked from a dev. i would speculate but would end up looking and sounding foolish. so im going to quit while im ahead and have actually been of help :-D cheers
Where can i disable compatibility mode?
I get the same problem. I've used a ICS rom for a day or so and suddenly the lockscreen was unresponsive. I thought it was ROM problem, so I flashed Cyanogen 7, but the screen didn't respond as well... I flashed everything to stock (removing magldr and hspl) and the problem stayed... After several restarts the screen started to respond and now it works (sort of). The tricky thing is: sometimes when I go out from some app in android, the screen doesn't respond again. Locking and unlocking the screen fixes this, but only temporarily.
Did this ICS rom screw something (...hardware?!) or is it a pure coincidence that a few people encounters the same problem for the first time in such a short period of time...
And one more thing... my warranty expired 5 days ago... please help!!!
I had this same problem with my phone before my warranty expired; before I flashed any android roms on it, and while it still had stock WM6.5. I called HTC customer support and they had me send in the phone for repair. They replaced the digitizer and I haven't had the same problem since. It was wierd because in my mind is seemed like a software problem because it would respond nicely as long as the screen was unlocked and the instant it was locked the response was very crappy, sometimes it took forever to unlock my phone. So it might somehow be a hardware issue

spare parts!
I repair phone myself and i can say that i get A LOT of hd2's with this problem. For the most part it is the hardware because no matter what software you put on the phone it is just a matter of the luck you have to get it working. My hd2 broke 2 times b4 and it was always hardware. Htc must of messed up with the hd2 digitizer

from what ive seen in photos of the leo mobo it looks like the connection for the screen/digitizer (not sure on hardware) is located right behind red end call/power button and from being mashed off,on,off,on,etc loosens/damages connection.
or is the hardware screen issue just a complete shot in the darks chance?
OH ... ive had the software issue (fixed as i mentioned earlier) AND unrepairable (with my limited tools and balls to physically tear into this badboy) hardware issues.
well, it's been a few days and my phone still seems to be fine. it hasn't once locked up on me yet. i don't know why turning compatibility mode would fix this. or maybe the phones connectors were loose and are now miraculously back in at the same time i unchecked compaibility mode. the only bad thing was that this was happening the last couple weeks and i had given up and already ordered a sensation 4g. or well, guess i have 2 phones now
Its seems possible. Every since I replaced my digitizer with a non OEM one its has never failed on me again. And I hope it never does. There dam expensive.

Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Compatibility Mode
I also have this issue, therefore I just recently flashed my hd2 with Tytung's 4.0 ICS Rom. As expected, this didn't help very much.. What I am now going to try before I send my phone to HTC is to disable compatiblity mode. BUT, I can't seem to find this compatibility mode check anywhere. Could someone please guide me there?
..
Windows 7
I will be flashing my phone with w7 now, to see wether this is an android kernel bug / softare issue or if this relates to hardware. I also see a lot of people saying that after fixing the digitizer it works again, so it might actually be a hardware issue. I will post my feedback when I have tried with w7.
