HD2 Screen Unresponsive - HD2 General

My phone became unresponsive yesterday. I was able to flash the stock ROM and HSPL back to 2.8000 before I sent it back.
I talked to the tech for a bit and he said that this is a common problem they have encountered. Maybe I'll have a replacement by the end of this week.
I flashed 8 different ROMs with no success.

How old was the phone before it went out? Screen separation/button issues or did the screen just stop? Drop it or some other physical damage?

Had the same problem, Updated to new rom 3.xx whatever and the phone went dead.

Workaround found
I found a work around, I have only tried this in android. Press the power button to turn the screen on, Then when it comes on it will not be responsive.
However if you turn the screen off then back on and try and unlock it it will respond and also i have noticed if the phone wakes it self up it will be responsive again.

+1. I too got annoyed to be using such a crappy workaround.. So called up HTC and sent the phone for warranty repair yesterday. Lets see how it goes.. I bought the phone off craigslist and HTC confirmed that its manufacture date was June'10.
I also put a note with steps to recreate this error. After some reflashing ROM/ Radio, my touchscreen started working again, but when I pressed Power button first time, the screen froze.. So I put that down in the steps.

Got my new phone... Quickly went back to hspl3 and back to android. the problem with my old phone was a loose windows button.

What exactly did you tell them when sending it in? Did you just tell unresponsive touch screen or what? My phone's touchscreen was not responding at all, but for some reason it started working again using the power button trick.
This is what happened to me:
I sent my phone to HTC and those idiots just flashed a fresh OS and sent it back as-is. I had sent a paper with steps to recreate the error, but the jokers are dumb enough to not even read it.
Called back HTC and they are sending a prepaid label to send it back! Wtf.. company run by idiots..

I have the same problem here. The trick doesn't work for me

I have same problem ... it's completely unresponsive now.
I'm sending it back to HTC
BTW, this could be the reason why my touch screen died

SECTION 7-WARRANTY RETURNS
As much as I would like to say that it doesn't happen, the HD2 does indeed sometimes completely fail because of user error, or just plain hardware faults and must be returned to either T-Mobile or HTC. The warranty process can be a scary one, especially if you HardSPL'd your phone or installed a custom ROM. But fear not! You can get your device back to stock rather easily! In this section I am going to cover the more common HD2 failures and their solutions, as well as how to revert back to your stock carrier ROM and SPL for warranty purposes. Now, this guide assumes that you bought your HD2 from a T-Mobile store and that you are a T-Mobile USA customer. If you purchased your HD2 through an online reseller, or are not with T-Mobile USA, the only option you have is to send your device to HTC directly and have them repair it. See the bottom of this section for more info.
Q1-MY TOUCHSCREEN DOESN'T WORK ANYMORE! WHAT HAPPENED? DID SOMEONE SET ME UP THE BOMB?
A-Where you running Android? For some reason, there seems to be a connection between touchscreen failure and running Android on the HD2. No one currently knows why it happens more often under Android, but it does happen. Please run Android at your own risk. If your screen fails under WinMo, it's more than likely just a strange hardware quirk, and not because of what you are running.

HD2 wont turn on

Hey everyone, my hd2 died (original 1.48 rom), I already tried soft reset, hard reset, put out my battery, charge it and everyhting that came to my mind but when i turn it on it wont go further than the first htc image.
Is there anything i cant do or should i just take it back to the shop?
Thanks
I would take it back, even if you do fix it. You don't want a phone that may still have a underlying problem.
Htc HD2 BRICK Need HELP!!!!!!!
I flashed Duttys_Leo_Sense_2.5_5.2.23554.5.5.0_1.72_Multi-Lang_6.5.5_Radio_2.07.51.22.2_V1.2_WWE into tmobile htc hd2 cause i was [email protected]$kin goin Rom happy and didnt double check its compatibility and my screen went blank black, cant power on, cant go into bootloader, and cant hard reset but when i plug it in to my computer it recognizes it as a device without a driver i saw it in the device manager on windows 7 ulitmate. CAN I SAVE MY HTC HD2??
I KILL my htc hd2 (BRICKED)
I used HSPL2_1024_RUN.exe i flashed like 5 roms within 24hrs i was trying them out and this one made killed my hd2.
for those stuck on the htc boot image
take off the back cover of the phone and press the little red button, this will restart the phone
AS SOON AS you press it, press and hold the volume down button this will bring you to the bootloader
connect the phone via usb to your computer and flash a different radio rom (look first which are compatible with your rom)
if this doesnt work, using the same method flash back to your original rom.

for tmous with 1gb rom NEVER flash a radio with .51. in the code.
still haven't seen anyone recover from this. if anyone has please let me know.
Damn it captain!!!!!!
I just got it on the 24th shhhhhhhh....... ummm i just will take it to TMOBILE i hope i can get an other one, they may not have one in stock or they WONT give me another. i will see as soon as the store opens.
Sorry to hear about people's problems. Just remember if you have TMobile
USA there is NOT a way to flash another rom onto the phone..Just give it time the wonderful folks here are working on it. If your still in your 14 day grace period just return the phone to the store and play dumb. You might
have to wait for another phone since apparently they did not anticipate
how many people wanted this phone and sold out quickly. I know I was there
at 6:30 and the second in line and they only had 5!
Anyway, the most important thing you can do here is DO a search!

BUT I have flashed roms into Tmobiles htc hd2 like TOUCH_X_TREME_23549_TMOUS_2_30_5_49 among others and they worked! i was just try different ones and i PICKED and I BRICKED!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry? sure about that? seems to me lots of people have successfully flashed their tmous hd2.
It only goes wrong if you
1 - flash a rom based on anything less than 2.10 rom
or
2 - flash a radio with ..51.. in the version number.

I do not see a little red button under the back cover. I am in the US, just bought phone, slightly used of course, no warranty. It suddenly went dead this afternoon while charging, will sometimes try to power up but will just keep flashing that one screen "stick together" over and over.....
Tried another battery, same thing.

Mine is doing the same thing . . . in the US, the reset button is right next to the SD card slot, and it's yellow. Mine wouldn't come on Friday, and I started a web chat with Tmobile to see if they would exchange it, and then it just came back on. They said as long as the white sticker at the top of the battery compartment is still white (proving you didn't get it wet), then they will exchange it. It worked fine for me the rest of the weekend (AFTER I did a hard reset, and got it running great!!). This morning, I locked it while running MobiTV, then I couldn't unlock it, so I pulled the battery. That was 2 hours ago, and it still won't come on . . .
If it doesn't come on before I leave work, I'm taking it to Tmobile tonight!!
UPDATED 20 minutes later: Just came on . . . no rhyme or reason why?? Just started after MULTIPLE times of taking out and putting back battery, SIM, and SD card. Got the same error that I've been getting the last couple months on reboots (services.exe)?? When I did a CleanRAM, it free'd up 3.36MB . . . so SOMETHING was hung up, but nothing was running in the task manager??
Generally, few task managers show what's really going on with the phone's memory. Use an advanced task manager which will allow you to control the actual processes running on your device, Google for the names of those which seem to cause mischief and terminate them (if possible) or try to find a solution.

Hey I am also Tmobile User and I have flashed a few ROMS luckily I have not Bricked my phone (knock on wood.) I was just wondering how your return went? I have insurance on mine and figured I would just take it back if that happened. I just didn't know if that would work? Did you ever get a new one
Another update . . . used my phone all afternoon, and tried to charge it, and it wouldn't charge??? Luckily, my husband has the same phone, so I checked his with the same charger. Compared the two phones, and the prongs that hit the battery were bent back. I folded them back down, and now it can charge again. Makes me wonder if that is the problem with the phone not coming back on? Maybe putting the battery back in so that it wasn't hitting the prongs has been keeping it from turning back on . . .

need help identifying the problem with my nexus

basically the screen wont wake up after putting the phone to sleep. i can feel the vibrations on the phone (so touchscreen is still registering touch, just not displaying anything)
i had dropped it in the snow about a month ago, although none of the water stickers have been tripped, it started doing this as soon as i took it out of the container of rice the next day.
any help would be appreciated, i cant really understand why the screen would work until i put it to sleep.
i'm so tired of my HD2 running CM7, phone is just too big. ha.
No ideas? I've tried to flash a different ROM thinking it might have been a software issue, but that did nothing. The screen will only work on the first boot.regardless of the ROM

just tried booting w/o the sd card, with a spare sd card, and a blank brand new one. no change between any of them
thanks for the suggestion though! i'm still trying everything i can think of to try and get this figured out.
edit - also once the screen goes to sleep, its not just a simple reboot to get the screen to work again. i need to pull the battery and let it sit for at least 15-20 seconds. otherwise it will still just be a black screen.
Send it in to HTC for repair.

Assuming you have CM 7 on your Nexus One; have you tried the trackball wake option? Also, you could try plugging in your phone to charge and see if the screen wakes up. (just process of elimination)

awesome idea, i just tried it but unfortunately its the same issue.
the hardware sleep button clearly works, and the screen is working too. this issue seriously makes no sense to me. i'm about to get fed up and mail it in to HTC.
so i had sent my phone to HTC to be repaired. they quoted me anywhere from 60-200 bucks. they recieved the phone today, and shipped it back out within 2 hours.
they did not contact me asking for my payment information or if i approve the repairs.
is it possible that they mailed it back to me because i was rooted?
Or possible that they pressed the power button and the screen came on
Keep us updated. It seems strange that they've turned it around so quickly!
wow i cannot believe this
they sent me a brand new phone, no charge. i was out of the 1yr warranty too.
i was seriously prepared to spend 200 bucks, but they did it for free. SO HAPPY
awesome customer service HTC, this is why i have only owned HTC's for the last 3 years.
so just to clarify how awesome HTC is:
my phone was rooted with CM7
out of warranty
dropped in snow
and they replaced it for free.

[Q] no respond in touch but all hard key working

Hi everyone,
I am using HD2 more than 1 year. I used SD version android in my phone. After few month, my phone freeze in android also in WM platform. All hard keys are working but no response in touch. Even cant unlock the phone when phone starts.
Then I sent it to HTC service in sweden. They repair it and sent me back.
After few days, I am facing the same problem. Even I have installed HSPL (1,2,3,4), updated radio. Also Installed NAND Android.
Now its starts with android but no touch key works at all. (All hard keys working). What can I do now? I need help. Please, anyone, any suggestions?

Sorry about that! Looks like the touchscreen is damaged or faulty! Send it back to repairs! Happened to me but i had no warranty
Note: Next time post in android Q&A section
Digitizer
Your digitizer failed to respond, therefore, you have to send it for repair unfortunately.
On a sidenote, you posted this in the wrong section. Please be careful with this the next time you start a thread
Well thats odd.. I am facing the exact same problem since today! And ive read on a
number of sites that this is caused by the excessive use of the end-call button (screen on / screen off)..
Sounds plausible as my HD2 is dated from december 2009..
In my case the touch screen works fine after I take out the batterij and reboot.
But as soon as I use the end-call button I am facing problems..
A quick workaround is to install "screen off and lock" from market and place
a shortcut on you homescreen to turn off your display and NEVER use the
hardware end-call button again.
Or send the HD2 to HTC repairs and wait 2~4 weeks or worse..
Edit: Found another trick that actually works.
"The digitiZer is under the hangup button. press the button bit hard till it nudges the digitiser a little. it worked for me."

The had the same problem happen to me. I had hspl and android on it so I flashed the stock wm6.5 rom and took it to T-Mobile where they were able to get the touch screen to respond to touch. Since then, I've reflashed mdj's cm7 android and no problems. But I agree, I believe the red/end call key is the blame.

[Q] problems problems and more problems

Uk HD2
Right heres the story; please bare with me....
managed to drop my hd2 a while back whilst jumping up to help a lady carying a baby who tripped. the phone turned off immediately but came back on once i hasd removed and replaced battery. the phone would then switch off randomly, or at least appeared to. to turn the phone back on I would have to remove the battery, replace and switch it on. which worked for about a fortnight then the screen wouldnt work. I knew the phone was working (if nto the screen)because it was synching with my exchange server. (perhaps it was the screeen all along?) so I put in an insurance claim for the damage and got my phone back however
on receipt the phone wouldnt boot just a white screen. I did tried the phone a number of times and eventually gave up decided to return it. I was just about to send it and tried it one last time and it turned on.
however I still get repeated the phone turning off randomly, with a battery out and repace as the only way to get it working. it will often require this a few times as it freezes on the white screen or occasionly just get the green HTC. sometimes when the phone works it has really really poor performance, no scrolling, video playback is terrible etc.
It appears that during the repair the phone software has been updated to
os 5.2.21913 (21913.5.0.94)
manilla 2.5.20181527
rom 3.14.405.2 (0466) wwe 09/29/10 I cant find a rom on the htc website with this date??
radio 2.15.50.14
protocol 15.42.50.11u
which has few things im not keen on such as a split volume control for system and phone, i cant use the camera as a torch anymore....
I also played around with changing the hspl to 2.08 and trying an andriod build that works fine on the wifes hd2 but occasionally this will regulalry fail to boot on mine?
so can I hve peoples opinion on
1. Is this a continuing phone issue not fixed the first time
2. Was the new rom not installed correctly hance the boots, freezes and bad performance?
3. other ideas as to what the problm is to steer the repair if I go back down that road.
should I just put spl 3.03 back on and send it back
cheers for reading and keep up the great work.
G.
3.14 roms will fall apart stability wise when the spl is NOT , 3.03.0000 or 3.03.hspl
However, for me I'd be straight back to stock and straight back for further repair from what you've said.

Yes I think its going back, just going to be difficuilt to convey the issues with the handset.
I didnt imagine it could be the spl due to the lack of boot with the 3.03spl, prior to going to the 2.08hspl, athough it would explain the poor video performance, however I just watched a film for testing purposes without a glitch... just need some consistency.
I think something inside is on its way?
G.
Btw by any chance does the bottom of your HD2 ever get really hot?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
yes very hot. often.
usually using wifi.
Like say the bottom part under the battery plate thing? I think something that's housed there is the problem as I have the same problem and its hot in the same place too.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
thats exactly the place. thouht it ws due to gel case so i take it off for a long browse. i think the wifes gets hot too though, although she has same case...
my n95 + n96 did it too so i thought it ws normal
Yeah that might be a problem with all HD2's but wouldn't know possibly. My HD2 can work perfectly and then I'd just pop it in to my pocket and white screen again. Usually a soft reset (little button under the cover) will do the job but then sometimes it doesn't work for a few days (like it is now).
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
when you say wont work for a couple off days you mean you just get the white screen for a few days instead of a full boot? like when I got it from the repairer.
if so what causes it to start working. that's why I think something is not quite right, its like something is not seated correctly.
I get the same blank phone when its in my pocket. we must be hot in the trouser department lol.
Yeah like it'll stay on the white screen for a few days and won't do anything. Then sometimes it'll just work for a day and then go back to the way it was before. It's so weird. Nothing ever happened mine either. Have you ever had any problems with some parts of the screen going blue or anything?
Oh the hot trousers crew, you know what causes hot trousers? Having a big ****. Haha
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
i ve the same problem
@ skelly
Ive not had this happen for a few days now so I'm not sure what to do if I send it back they will just say its working fine... so i think I will hang on to it, unless its a problem that s gets worse with time. so has yours got worse over time or is it just random?
I really like the HD2 so I dont want to be without it but dont want to risk it getting worse.
cheers for your help

Weird HD2 unresponsive screen

Now I've read about a problem of the hd2 having digitizer problems and that only a replacement will fix the unresponsive touchscreen issue. But why is it that when I can get my touchscreen to work that it works flawlessly until it goes to sleep? Then i have to continually wake and swype and sleep over and over until it responds. It just seems very weird that after it wakes that it never seems to have a problem. I'm using the miui rom right now and have set the screen to never go to sleep. So I want to see how long it will go without this problem. Has anyone else seen this happening with their phone as well?
Make sure the kernel, and Rom are up to date.
I have that too on an AOSP Gingerbread rom. The screen is not unresposive per se but calibration seems off some times, strage for a capacitive screen.
ive had the problem with android before and there were a few different fixes ...
one fix was to turn off compatibility mode
another was kernel
ive also had the problem with wp7 ( nothing a few hard resets and patience couldnt cure )
either way good luck
well since my first post, i hadn't let the phone go to sleep once and it worked perfectly fine. so i decided to turn off compatibility mode and let it go to sleep.... and when i woke it and i slid my fingers down it actually worked. so far it's worked every time. why would compatibility mode mess up the touchscreen though?
i have NO earthly idea! just a little tidbit i picked from a dev. i would speculate but would end up looking and sounding foolish. so im going to quit while im ahead and have actually been of help :-D cheers
Where can i disable compatibility mode?
I get the same problem. I've used a ICS rom for a day or so and suddenly the lockscreen was unresponsive. I thought it was ROM problem, so I flashed Cyanogen 7, but the screen didn't respond as well... I flashed everything to stock (removing magldr and hspl) and the problem stayed... After several restarts the screen started to respond and now it works (sort of). The tricky thing is: sometimes when I go out from some app in android, the screen doesn't respond again. Locking and unlocking the screen fixes this, but only temporarily.
Did this ICS rom screw something (...hardware?!) or is it a pure coincidence that a few people encounters the same problem for the first time in such a short period of time...
And one more thing... my warranty expired 5 days ago... please help!!!
I had this same problem with my phone before my warranty expired; before I flashed any android roms on it, and while it still had stock WM6.5. I called HTC customer support and they had me send in the phone for repair. They replaced the digitizer and I haven't had the same problem since. It was wierd because in my mind is seemed like a software problem because it would respond nicely as long as the screen was unlocked and the instant it was locked the response was very crappy, sometimes it took forever to unlock my phone. So it might somehow be a hardware issue

I repair phone myself and i can say that i get A LOT of hd2's with this problem. For the most part it is the hardware because no matter what software you put on the phone it is just a matter of the luck you have to get it working. My hd2 broke 2 times b4 and it was always hardware. Htc must of messed up with the hd2 digitizer

from what ive seen in photos of the leo mobo it looks like the connection for the screen/digitizer (not sure on hardware) is located right behind red end call/power button and from being mashed off,on,off,on,etc loosens/damages connection.
or is the hardware screen issue just a complete shot in the darks chance?
OH ... ive had the software issue (fixed as i mentioned earlier) AND unrepairable (with my limited tools and balls to physically tear into this badboy) hardware issues.
well, it's been a few days and my phone still seems to be fine. it hasn't once locked up on me yet. i don't know why turning compatibility mode would fix this. or maybe the phones connectors were loose and are now miraculously back in at the same time i unchecked compaibility mode. the only bad thing was that this was happening the last couple weeks and i had given up and already ordered a sensation 4g. or well, guess i have 2 phones now
Its seems possible. Every since I replaced my digitizer with a non OEM one its has never failed on me again. And I hope it never does. There dam expensive.

I will be flashing my phone with w7 now, to see wether this is an android kernel bug / softare issue or if this relates to hardware. I also see a lot of people saying that after fixing the digitizer it works again, so it might actually be a hardware issue. I will post my feedback when I have tried with w7.
