HTC Hub / HTC Locations revival project - Thunderbolt Android Development

Is there a way we can start to work on a way to get back HTC Hub and HTC Locations for the ThunderBolt?
I successfully installed Locations but i just get a server error when it tries to load

I would help any of the developers on here to get these apps put back on the Tbolt by providing the necessary files I currently have.
I have a rooted Incredible as well as ThunderBolt (non-rooted)
I will help in any way i can to get these apps returned to there rightful home on Sense 2.0
Update: Can anyone confirm if the first RUU that was leaked not long after CES if apps are on this RUU vs the current version of the software found on the Tbolt.

There is the footprints app pre-loaded. Is this what you are looking for?

Haha he means the htcsense.com integration and HTC hub which is htcs app store

Footprints is not the same
Locations is the premium navigation found on Desire HD/Z/Incredible S
Its much better than Google Nav, it has integrated maps for offline use so its instant load navigation, better voices, has traffic support, traffic/red light cameras and other features.
The maps navigation is provided by TomTom, and was originally going to be on the ThunderBolt as it was shown at CES.
The other app, is HTC Hub, this lets you connect to HTCsense.com for more features and free downloads.
the app is replaced on the ThunderBolt with the identical name by "HTC Widget downloader", but it has some HTC Hub support since it can download more widgets available on the Hub.

this is what im talking about and i am praying will be cooked up by some ppl here at xda..only thing im missing is the hub and i was hoping to have locations..this would be great

I'm sure we'll get it at some point even if it has to be a custom ROM
Incredible S has both Locations and HTC Hub, HTC Likes and the new Car panel
HTC Hub - HTCsense.com
HTC Likes - HTC reviews android apps and only recommends the ones it likes in this app, this can also be attributed to how many "likes" the app has received from other HTCsense.com users, so you can see what the popular apps are
HTC Locations - Search for POI's based on your current location without loading another app, look for food, gas, atm, shopping and more, then narrow down your results by distance and even see phone numbers and auto call to get hours of business. Navigation includes Walking or by Car, many voice choices with languages, download more maps, see traffic info, download red light cameras for map, download speed trap info and more voices. Instant on navigation maps that never have to load grey boxes one at a time, 3d and 2d modes, built in call support that never makes you leave the navigation screen even when in a call.
This WAS supposed to be on the ThunderBolt, however it still may get put on in a future update, maybe the Gingerbread update ?

Verizon denied it that's why they aren't included

htcsense.com will return in a future update, Netflix and Google Music will also be in an update in the near future as well. Gingerbread update should bring these features to the Tbolt.
HTC finally has fixed most of the problems on the htcsense.com website, its faster than it was before and even loads all the content finally.
I guess until Tbolt gets HTC Hub, i'll download the content such as skins and wallpapers via my Droid Incredible and then transfer it to my Tbolt.
I already got over 29 skins counting the ones on HTC Hub and 12 wallpapers.
Now i'm contemplating whether or not want i want to wait until Gingerbread is out to root it or not

I've already got htcsense.com as well as half of the hub working...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001516

I'm gonna probably wait a little longer before I root, I want to make sure root doesn't prevent certain upcoming features from working. The fact we got HTCsense.com back on Tbolt only shows how easy it is to get it back even by an official update without having to change Sense. I'm hoping we get Gingerbread like that was shown off on EVO 3D today. I just hope to get the other missing features we should have gotten to work again, including Locations since its the app to making the Tbolt the closest thing to a Garmin or TomTom GPS. Better than Google Nav in my personal opinion.
Then next item we need to work on is getting Landscape working without having to put it into a dock to activate, if it can activate with a dock we should be able to turn it on by making a widget or something.
I'll be continuing my theme designs as well since ThunderBolt is replacing my Incredible.

I've been looking all over for info on this! Coming from an Inspire last week the Hub was one of the main features I loved about Sense! If you could get this over to the T-bolt somehow Is gladly donate! :]

The hub will FULLY work with the Thunderbolt once HTC is done doing all the high maintenance of the site. I've been talking to them about it. I have almost everything working on mine.
Sent from my Bolt using XDA Premium App

The Hub isn't even enabled without a hack. I think they were giving you the run around. No amount of site maintenance is going to fix phone software.

I'm in the minority of people who absolutely love htc sense. Htc hub not being available on this phone is a major negative. The numnuts at verizon shoved a huge 150mb golf game, rock band and other strange ****e on this phone and removed htc hub. Have they lost their minds? They are just a dumb pipe trying to force phone users to buy some stupid overpriced apps. I hope they understand their place in the chain soon. Thank god for rooting. There is no way I'm buying any phone that I can't take carrier crap out from.

Why not just wait

Ok i know most here like myself want froyo pretty badly. Much respect to the devs here and cm for bringing us froyo but honestly until htc releases the kernel whats the point. From the froyo flashes i have ran they all are nice but there isnt any performance increase over the rest of the roms that have been released so far. Yes according to linpack and quadrant the current froyo is faster but in real world situations it isnt.
This is no way a bash to the developers. They have worked extremely hard so far to get us what we do have. I just say to wait for the kernel to be released and then let the magic happen.

I like trying new things. I just don't like that eugene and other devs release broken roms and tell us not to "complain" when all we are doing is stating what's broken
Let it be known I'm not trying to start anything. I guess its a reason to wait for offical release because nothin will be broken
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
Im not necessarily saying to wait for an official release. Take cyanogen mod 6 for example. They are putting alot of hard work into getting froyo to us but on the stock kernel. Once the kernel is released then there going to have more work on their hands.

*double take* What? Is everyone here daft? They do this out of the kindness of their cockles and tease us about not complaining and then make updates, anyway! I'm having fun, son! Lighten up, homeslice. Let's kiss.
Personally I really like that these ROMs are out. It's like a ray of hope that 2.2 is coming, regardless of what T-Mobile or HTC decide to do. The one thing I've been really irked about when it comes to the carriers and handset makers is that they don't seem as interested in new technology. When T-Mo says that the myTouch is going to get froyo, I am kind of thinking that there's no reason to hold your breath. Maybe froyo will come, maybe next year, and honestly I don't want to wait that long. So it's nice to see even these ROMs because it means that the stable version is coming, and not on a T-Mo schedule...
im waiting !!!! lol
First off, I really appreciate all the hard work the devs are putting in. I kinda notice that the other new devices are getting more love then the slide but I guess that's due to its lack of "hype" or maybe since it's still fairly new.
I must say I'm joining the waiting boat though. My first slide was a breeze to root and mod. Unfortunately, I took it in for exchange (squeeky battery door and dust under the screen). The new one hasn't been so easy to mod. I managed to root and flash Eugene's SMR5r1, which I had on the old phone and loved. Since then all attempts to get into Clockwork have failed. I'm chillin' until there's an easier method.

you guys complain way too much. threads like these make the devs shut it down all together. eugene373 has done that before and if these bs threads keep getting created then we can for sure hang it up and wait for the official release. so just be a lil...(f*ck that), A LOT more appreciative of the devs and their work on froyo
we put out buggy alphas because you cant wait.
we say no feedback because we know its broken. we also run our own roms so we are also testing and fixing on fly

Anyways, I'm waiting for the official 2.2 as of now, I don't mind the wait, and I don't really like the roms put out right now, I enjoy using the custom Sense UI, that's one of the main reasons I got the slide. I really hope a dev starts improving on the espresso UI more. I appreciate all of the other work devs are doing, but it's too much vanilla android for my taste. After having a G1 and MT3G for a year you kind of want something new

This is an email that I recieved from HTC after emailing them asking about the sense 2.0 update (some things removed from it for my privacy):
Dear ,
Good question! We understand how important it is to have the latest updates for your device.
I'm happy to inform you that your phone, the HTC Evo is definately on our list to recieve the 2.3 Android OS update. This update is expected to include an update to the Sense UI.
At this time, we don't have an exact launch date. However, we estimate that it will be available in the second quarter of 2011 (anywhere from the beginning of April, to the end of June), assuming that there are no major setbacks. Once we have a better idea of when this update will be availble for your phone, we'll be sure to announce it through Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/htc) and Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/htc), and of course, HTC.com.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our ContactUs site using your email address and your ticket number.
Sincerely,

The fact that you're posting in forums designed specifically to incite interest in rooting phones and installing the latest firmware tells me you are either an idiot or troll, op.

Whaaaa? I thought April Fool's Day was on the first. In so far as I can tell, the only thing Apple has to offer that Android doesn't is the number of higher quality games, and that gap is shrinking in a big hurry. Beyond that, my Evo does everything an iPhone does, and I don't have to put up with AT&T or Verizon. Bonus!
And at any rate, didn't Apple and AT&T brick a bunch of iPhones last year with OTAs?
Yea, and they will brick it remotely if its jailbroken now too, bunch of phone-nazis!

HTC Unlock bootloader and disable NAND protection campaign

UPDATE
"There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC
What is the point of this?
The idea of this is to convince htc to unlock the bootloaders and disable the NAND protection on their phones
Why should I support this?
Unlocking the bootloader and disabling the NAND protection will allow users to keep their phones up to date using custom roms such as CM7. Take the htc wildfire for example. In december 2010, HTC released a 2.2 update for the wildfire. However, hidden in this update was a new bootloader which could not (and still can not as of the 15th may 2011) be modified. It is unlikely that HTC will release another update for this phone, meaning that users are going to be stuck on this rom. The reason? So HTC can sell new phones. However what this is doing is putting users off buying HTC's devices since rival companies have announced that the users can easily unlock the bootloaders on their devices.
To support the campaign please sign the petition at http://goo.gl/uIeqv and you can like us on facebook at http://goo.gl/e1CqN and you can see updates on my blog at http://goo.gl/KdpFr

What does everyone else think
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
It is an nice intiative, but as already stated in other toppics, htc will for sure not unlock there bootloaders. It is just this what the economy is driving on: everyone has to buy new things as much as possible. It can be done in two ways: by making a crapy device or by constanly bringing out new devices. And since the first option will make people angry and go to other manufactures, the only thing left is to make sure that every device gets outdated. And thus to lock the bootloader.
But I signed the petition anyway, perhaps it will make them go searching for other options to make money.

I've tried most of them, but as I have sat back and noticed, there is a lot of posting things that have been covered. I check morning and evening unless some stuff is going down. You know, like a couple of weeks ago. At this point all we are missing are some camera/camcorder developments for ICS, some miracle worker patching the genius app for ICS and that's about it.

I think that since a lot of threads being closed lately that people are more hesitant to open another thread about anything unless it's important.

yup, and in canada it was only released a few months ago.. so there will be more people buying this, and hopefully they know about XDA
i just got a sensation and decided to come back to the mt4g. its a great device, dont get me wrong.. and it looks slick as hell.. and development is CRAZY.. but its not a worthy upgrade to be honest. rather wait for the one series (at&t's one X im looking at you bro)

Yeah, but on the brightside. If he gets in the mood for sense 4.0, he is just stubborn enough to make it work. So there.

F**k yeah xD. I hope he does make a Sense 4.0 kernel! His were always good..as you guessed, I'm more of a fan of Sense...working on a ROM right now, but the thing ain't booting! Ah well, I'll get it.
It doesn't seem empty around here, but the overall enthusiasm seems to have dropped from a year ago.
I will echo the sentiments here though in that this phone is an amazing device. I had a friends last years get the google phone (the one after the nexus one, the name escapes me), and another get the Motorola Droid X (or the one after that..again I cannot remember). And the reason I cannot remember is because they both long ago opted for an upgrade because they said their phones were shot.
Now perhaps they didn't treat their phones like I did mine (rooting and using the latest, efficient rooms and kernels), but this phone does perform flawlessly. Aside from being a tiny bit slow compared to other newer phones, and because I have not found a ICS ROM that works for me, I am seriously getting swayed by the HTC One hype (especially when they announced that TMO wag getting the One-X in addition to the One-S).
If I did pick up one of those phones, I don't think I could sell this phone though... I might even keep a line open for it. Its just too good of a runner.

Keep at it bro. An unwillingness to give up (and greed) got us the incandescant light bulb. You'll get it.

you bet lots of dissapointments lately
Ohhhh the irony!!!! The Desire HD/Z were the devices that launched their htcsense.com service, a service that could backup all of the personal data on your phone into the cloud. Earlier this year they shut said service down and this has resulted in the death of the ICS update. They were born together and they died together. Very poetic or something...
My next phone will not be HTC made!!!

I love HTC's hardware and design, but they screwing up the software side more and more. Can't they just release a 3.0 kernel for DHD for developers? I mean they're multi-billion dollar companies and can't even spend a few thousands to develop a 3.0 kernel? We have developers doing the same thing in their free time here . . .
I wouldn't have been this sour if they didn't say "We will release ICS for DHD next year" and went "Oh no, we won't, why? Because **** you that's why.". My next phone will be a Google phone and it will probably come from Samsung.
Bye bye HTC. Nothing more to say.

They've already spent a bunch of time and money on it. They need to just "accidentally" leak their source as is. That's free.

this is not explanation!
Atleast they can STILL PROVIDE UPDATE
because No one is FORCING U TO UPDATE if u fear to lost the data....
some people dont care about that so just give the update, those ho fear to lose some data, no one is forcing them to update if they fear!!!
Just hand it out to the devs, HTC...
How about they do it like samsung or iPhone via a computer where u can back up all u data and install what ever ics they provide and restore back u data? It's just a lame excuse from them not to do it. Probably its full of bugs and all dhd newer then a year will be returned. My 2 cents

I personally think the main reason this has happened to HTC is because of the whole Beats crap. Before HTC had an image of well built technically advanced handsets and focusing on the whole Sense thing. Over the last year and a bit this has turned into Beats by Dr Dre and all that kind of nonsense.
Chill guys, put down the pitchforks. We just need source for the Desire S or Incredible S and then it'll be fully working.
"Fitting all that Ice Cream Sandwich into the Desire HD would require repartitioning the internal space, and repartitioning risks overwriting personal content"
I think HTC forgot that we have something call the micoSD card...:silly:
With most apps, photos, videos, personal data can be backup to the micoSD card, how "much" personal content will we risk to lose?
well play HTC well play :good:

If you promise me you'll buy me a car and you don't but I manage to build one by myself, should I just say ok no problem?? It's a stupid example, but they said they would release it, so they had to release it.
I personally won't buy anymorew from htc, unless they do something awesome, and they haven't been doing it for the last year, so I have little hope....
