Desire HD battery. Any resolution? - Desire HD General

Just wondered if there was a better battery on the market to buy or if HTC are developing one?

3rd Parties do sell batteries with higher capacity. But quality is not assured and they are not endorsed by HTC.

I've always had bad experience with 3rd party batteries.
Custom ROM + setting up your phone correctly is the best way to improve your battery life

try callibration as described in one of the many battery threads on here, and if your running a custom CM7 based rom try mad-murdocks battery fix, But in reality with a high powered smart phone you aint gonna get much more than a days usage out of it without charging.

In the beginning I also had huge problems with my DHD's batterylife.
Now, it easily lasts 2 whole days with constant hspda connection, push on and no task manager, rooting or anything... ow, and my screen is always set to 100% brightness.
Don't know why I had such low batteeylife in the beginning, but I'm absolutely loving it now, lasts way longer than my iPhone 3gs

I have fount using the MIUI rom, has helped my battery.
I wouldn't buy a 3rd party battery...I dont think they live up to the claims they make.

i've bought an extra chinese battery for when im travelling where there's no outlets. works good for me

For me my battery lasts easily 35 hours.
My best advice is, if you have a HTCSense.com account, remove it. It drains battery very fast.

I am on CM7 RC1 with maddock's new kernel and android assistant with auto quick boost every 2 hours, works pretty well for me. idling only 1% power consumption an hour sometimes even less.
THats with push gmail, wifi, 3g constantly turned on.

My battery started of very poor but its improving over time.. current stat : 22 hrs phone idle , screen on : 1:15 , voice call : 22min , WiFi : 4hrs , data connection on when no WiFi , music : 45min , fair bit of browsing , 25% battery left ....

Using Revolution 4.0 rom and took 13 hours to take 10% of battery. Pretty good.
Wireless on and some calls

third party battery's are really cheap, so carrying a few extra battery's while on a flight off more then 8 hours for example is really convinient, because a few extra battery's don't take alot off space and they are really cheap.
And I also do run custom roms, right now I have the Gingerbeard rom from Mike running, but it was said that the custom roms use less enegry, but I don't know if you would notice alot off difference.

Getting at least a day use out of the stock battery
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk

My battery was crap before i rooted,
With root and gingerroms i cant complain on the battery lifetime anymore.

I got an external battery instead: (search for TeckNet Dual-Port iEP380 5000mAh on Amazon, I can't post links yet).
Lots of capacity, but rather slow to charge (both itself, and the phone)

I can lasts 2 to 3 days with normal use (tweeting sometimes, updating weather, twitter, facebook, htcsense, and anything else every hour, txting 5x a day, calling 0 to 3 times a day, and spending 5 to 10 minutes on market every day).
I am using stock rom.
And using JuiceDefender with UltimateJuice to let my phone turn of 3G every time, and turn on 3G every hour for 1 min to update.

I'd love to have an extr battary.

Tips or What is in your opinion the best rom for battery life for the HD2?

I have searched around the forum but cant find any recent discussions on what is the best HD2 rom, i recently used CoreDroidGBX and i find the battery life to be pretty good on that (Lasts me till end of day with light use (Light use being screen on about 2-3 hours out of that day) End of day being 7:00 Unplugged Low bat around 5-6:00) But i see about 300-500 mA useage when im actually doing anything on my phone(But just like 2-3mA when its off and i disable data)
So i keep experimenting with different roms and i am wondering what you guys have experienced the best battery life with on your HD2's.
Also i have to manually toggle off data, is there a app to auto do it, like automatically whenever the screen is turned off? I had my phone on battery nearly 24hours (Although i was on my laptop and only used it for like 20 mins of phone calls and a few texts) but still a real full day was awesome

Coredroidgbx? There is a Coredroid series by Sergio and a hyperdroidgbx by Pongster. Both get rave reviews for battery. I run hyperdroid and I get 18 hours of normal use no problem. If you consider watching YouTube and flash video all day normal there is no rom that will last doing that.
Do you prefer a sense or a non sense build? GB or Froyo? CM7 or ASOP?

I would say u need to check some nand built on your own as different phone respond differently to rom built. hyperdroidgbx and rafroid hd 4 are good option to move ahead and check
+1 agree.
Thoese are my favorites too.

tried using CoreDroidGBX before also..
smooth... but battery is almost the same as other builds..
In my opinion the best battery life was in unofficial nightly CM7 by charsingh (1-3mA in standby). But due to some issues i had to switch to Typhoon CM, battery drain is notably higher (6-10mA standby) but for me it is the best ROM ever.
I think that the functionality of the ROM is litle bit more important than small diferences in battery drain.
Motoman234's Moto-MyTouch4G v3.3
Nand build and the best I've tried so far. I can get 2 days with light use (text and moderate calls) and a full day with fairly heavy use ie: web for 1-3 hrs and 1-2 hrs of various games along with calls and texting. I call my family on the east coast frequently and a 2 1/2 hour call is not unusual, loose maybe 20 to 25percent on the call depending on my signal. Great rom, a chef that responds and helps, again nand build. totally functional for me no issues flashed 4 different phones to it so far! .
I as a rule, leave wifi on always and use bluetooth, location, and background data only as needed. Blue tooth and background data will suck the juice right out! Still, if I forget and leave those on I can still get a full 10 hr day out of a single charge, provided i dont spend hrs surfing.
+1 for Cyanogen Mod 7. I tried a lot of DesHD builds but CM7 has the longest battery life by far for me. One charge lasts me about two days with light use. With all DesHD builds i never made it past 24 hours. Usually even less than that.
Furthermore CM7 is just beautiful, especially with cyanbreadX
i'm on rafdroid 4.0 and unplugged this morning at 8 am and the time now is 5:30 and i'm at 60% with moderate use and wifi off.
i will say though that if i play bubble blast 2 that thing sucks the battery like nothing and i'm not sure why. it's amost 1% battery per min i can feel the phone get hot from use.
Running cm7 unoficcial right now and seem to be getting good batter life, but I have seen it actually use 700mA (srsly) when just charging ..
But can idle forever. But lost 15% in an hour during lunch...

I just put HyperDroidGBXv7 on my phone a couple days ago and its been great on battery life so far. I unplugged my phone about a 12hrs ago and its at 74%, averaging about 3-4ma on standby. No classes today, so I've only used it lightly today for some quick wifi browsing, short gaming (Angry Birds), and about 30 texts.
Ok been trying cm7 and for some reason when actually using my phone I seem to get a steady 535mA battery useage, any suggestions on fixing this?

Battery Tips?

I just want to know what I can do to improve my battery on CM7 nightly 32. I'm at 21 hours now and almost dead. Yet I see people get stuff like 2 days and 10 hours... I have tasker and the only profile I have is when the screen goes off it turns mobile data off (not sure If it works so I also use apndroid). I NEVER use wifi, bluetooth, or high brightness. I do however have gps on so in case I lose my phone is lost or stolen I can track it. So there's no way I'm disabling that. I have tried juice defender but figured since it can't effectively disable data for 2.3.3 I saw no point in the app. Any tips?

21 hours on moderate use is great battery life. 12 hours is usually the measuring stick for smartphones, less is bad, greater is good.
Don't know who you saw getting two days plus, but they are either not touching their phone or have an extended battery.

Best way to extend battery life is to get an extended or high capacity battery. I just got the Mugen Power pack, not the chunky one, and im in the process of breaking it in.
On my stock battery i was getting about 17hrs of moderate use. Almost no talk but alot of texting, engadget and youtube mostly on wifi with gps always on. That might give you an idea, plus, there are countless battery related threads on here.
Will post back in afew days after my Mugen has cycled afew times.

I have 4 stock replacement batterys and never plug my phone in to the charger. When my phone is at about 5% i just take one out and pop the next one in and charge them in the wall... I know its not the answer you want but I never have a problem with battery life lol
I would agree that 21 hours is great battery life on this phone. I can get a week of battery life on my phone if I put it in airplane mode and stick it in my desk drawer =P
Not sure how big of an impact the tasker profile has. Unless your screen is off for long periods of time I would think that it might harm the battery life because every time you touch the device, it has to 'search' and connect to the tower again.
You can try running the phone at the stock CPU speed to see if that has an improvement on your battery life. I currently run the same 1017/245 as you with a screen off profile set at 245/245.
For me, as long as I can make it through a day's use, the battery life is fine. With moderate use I can go about 15-18 hours and heavy use I'm at around 12. The car charger in those cases is a life saver.
Bottom line is, battery life really depends on your usage habits. Those people getting days out of their phones likely aren't using them very much...
well i have setcpu set at 806 max and 245 min. screen off is at 245/245 and on powersave governor. other then that its on ondemand. i also have profile set to reduce the CPU based on battery. I have it set to <101% its at 806/245 , <41% its at 768/245 and less then 25 is 368/245. i realize that these are low speed but i hardly ever get lag and i use it for everything, music, video, youtube, internet, twitter, facebook, xda , and a here and there gmail. i guess if im getting exceptional battery life... anyone want some tips?
I find the more variation I put into profiles on setcpu, the worse my battery life gets. Theory - it is constantly watching and making changes based on your CPU needs and battery. So I have mine set to 1113-1113 performance, 245-245 powersave screen off, 245-245 powersave 45degrees+ and for your mobile data, try just having a widget to turn it on and off as you need it. You probably don't need it on everytime you turn on your screen do you?

The apndroid widget eventually gets out of sync with on/off with the data... I think its gingerbread. Most apps can't effectively turn the radio off. I hope they make one soon!

I find the stock battery to be not that great. I bought the Chichi batteries way back in October (when they were still considered cheap) and theyve been great. I havent really done any new tests since October, but back then (before I had a data plan) I was getting atleast a day and more (from 100% to dead) with moderate usage.
I'd look for a high capacity battery, though they seem to be expensive now.

My mothers g2 is rooted and running cm7 nightly 29 or 30, I installed it last week. I asked her today for the first time how the battery was after a week. She is using an aftermarket 1800mah battery, wifi only at home, she was almost at 32 hours and had 39% battery left!!!!
Not sure of all settings but i put it on 1113mhz, on demand with min 368, autobacklight, wifi only at home, bluetooth is always connected and on. Talk is about 70% of her usage overall. 4 gmail accounts. I did not install set cpu at all. I even stopped it on my phone because it didnt help me one bit.
Not too shabby. I was at 57% with some texting but a lot of gps usage for latitude and wifi always on even when not at home.

here is what i get out of a day (battery consumption for specific tasks are mentioned in percentages measured using juiceplotter)
wifi on constantly
display set to 24% brightness
background sync enabled (google, weather 6hrs, whatsapp and facebook once a day)
45 min video (rockplayer no h/w decoding) 15%
1 hr browsing+chat 15%
30 min calls 6%
20 min music+chat 5%
20 min general usage 5%
1 hr flash streaming 15%
24 hrs standby 24% (@ 1% for every hr of standby)
15% battery remaining after 24 hrs i.e. low battery warning.
i disabled the use wireless network option under locations and always on mobile data
and get much better battery life, also i use wifi constantly when available (which is 90% of the time), it is much better for battery life than using 3g or gprs/edge.
pretty amazing battery life IMO i am very happy.
So i have cycled my Mugen 1800mA battery acouple times. on average, i'm able to get about 27hrs of heavy use. Here are some settings as a baseline:
Always on Data
Wifi always on
Auto brightness
1GHz clock speed
massive amounts of text use
massive amounts of screen on time
will report back in afew days time after some more cycles.

Battery Rubbish?

hey there
basically, last night i:
1)wiped battery stats
2)discharged till phone shuts off
3)turned phone on again so it turns off again
4)went to sleep with it charging
5)woke up 9 hours later, on 100%
so if its fully charged, battery ETA is only giving it 7 hours and 44 minutes estimated time, WITHOUT WIFI, GPS OR MOBILE DATA, AND 25% BRIGHTNESS USING 'BRIGHTNESS PROFILES' APP. isnt this like.... rubbish? this is my setup

I'm wondering the same thing... the Desire Z only comes with a 1300mAh battery... My previous phone had a more powerfull battery (2100mAh) and that was an older model WM6 smartphone (which was rubbish on power savings) and it would outlast the desire Z... Even after two years of extensive use, the old phone's battery is better then this phones brand new battery
I've been unable to find any official HTC batteries for the Desire Z which pack more juice...

I am in the process of 'breaking in' a new 1800 MuganPower battery. Fits perfectly with no mods needed.
It should take a few more charges etc to settle down, so things should theoretically improve.
I pulled the plug off charge 6.5 hours ago.
I have it set to use wifi when at home, and 3g for the phone connection (I have a 3G femtocell at home).
When I leave my home area, it switches off 3g and wifi and drops to 2g.
I have made a couple of 2 minute calls, checked my emails and twitter, and was out of the house for say 1.5 hours earlier.
I have had a couple of texts to which i replied.
I am on 95% charge now, and pretty pleased with that.
I've got the same mugen battery, and get through a full day easily no matter what I do. Screen full bright, wifi always on, some internet, games, gps.... etc. Only 7 hours of battery to me sounds terrible.

im surprised its been 10h 15m and im still on 58%
the battery seems okay when not touching the phone, as i have only checked facebook for 2 minutes, and sent around 10 texts (been playing football)
looks like imma turn off wifi when not using it from now!
When I first got my Desire Z when it first came out I was pretty disappointed in the battery life. I tried programs like juice defender and minimized every possible battery sucking option I could find. I could maybe get 12 hours of use out of it so I bought a 1800mAh MuganPower battery which gave me maybe 15 hours instead. Pretty poor I thought but what more could I do?
A couple of months ago I finally did a factory reset after encountering a lot of frustrating little bugs, some of which had been around since the phone was new. Since then not only has my phone worked a lot better and faster, but battery life is MUCH improved. My phone now consistently lasts 24 - 30 hours with the same usage or more than I was using it before. So obviously buggy software can make a huge impact on battery life and it's not something you are going to be able to easily discern as to what program(s) are causing the problem.
Hmmm im not sure then..
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Okay, played a bit of speedx 3D, heavy texting and facebook/gochat, still on 31%. Battery seems ok, still going to invest in a better one though, as using the phone for games or internet heavily drains the battery, whereas standby seems to be quite good, but need to turn off wifi. I will see how it fairs tomorrow, and post a picture.

what does this do?
I used this before and I found it was pretty inconvenient with wifi/3g and always having to wait for these to get turned on or turning them on myself.
I did see 11-13 hour battery with my normal use (light surfing, 1-2 hours calling, many many text)...but then I removed it and I have everything pop up when I click on it and I am getting 9-10 hour battery life.
I am not normally a battery hog...but I REALLY like it when something I click on WORKS then and there...without a no connection message.
I am more than willing to lose the extra battery time for the convenience....maybe if I start using more battery intense stuff Ill revisit this app but for now...I like things to work when I expect them too...
I prefer to use SetCPU to lower the CPU speeds when it's off, and when the battery reaches 25%. Works great for me. I used JuiceDefender, but I just had nothing but problems with it.

I get over 24 hours of battery easily with moderate use (meaning a few games, a lot of text messaging, some web browsing and at least 2 hours of music).
Last charge lasted from 3 pm one day to 6 pm the next day at 20% battery when I plugged it in again.

It really depends on what build you use, the kernel it's based on and how you use your phone.
I use my phone all day with internet connection, I get about 13 hours out of a charged battery, that's with WiFi almost constantly on and using Whatsapp, Facebook and browser a lot and beside that the occasional game.
This is on Hyperdroid CM7.
With less use of the phone and turning off the WiFi connection I can get about 25 - 26 hrs on a fully charged battery. If I really try hard I can get 2 full days out of the battery (that means almost no use of WiFi and turning off the data connection as much as possible)
Mind you this battery is 1 year old and abused (quick half charges every now and then)
The battery life of the HD2 isn't the best. But with a good build and a program like SuperPower or JuiceDefender you can get pretty good results (atleast a full day of using your phone.. which to me is exactly what I want.)
I personally do not have experience with extended batteries, I'm still on my stock HD2 battery
So far on hyperdriid the battery is been not really good, is only Been maybe 2 hours without wifi and screen brightness all the way to thebottom and is already at 76% not good at all lol I will let it drain and try again tomorrow.
Sent from my HD2 using xda premium
Like bever86 said, it depends on which build you use. And unfortunately you can't know which rom has the lowest battery drainage without flashing and checking out yourself.
Here's some of the rom's i tested:
UltimateDroid 3.3 - was okay. I got at least a day with it.
I tried some version of MIUI which was pretty bad. It didnt last from 8am to 1pm.
WindowsPhone7 - was okay too. Pretty much the same with the UltimateDroid.
Now I'm using SENSATION XL V 2.5 stock ALL IN ONE. I just flashed it yesterday but it seems very good. I used wifi to download apps all day and it hasnt even dropped to %60.
Right now I'm with hyperdroid and dorimanx.... its awful... if I use the phone for 20 minutes idk, browsing with 3g the battery drops Maybe 15 % is alot even. With screen with minimum brightness and not overcllocked.... I don't know what to do, I don't have money for a bigger battery and I could sell the phone but nothing good is available for under 200 used. Uhmmm what to do what to do...
Sent from my HD2 using xda premium
I Easily get 14 hours of pretty heavy usage on hyperdroid, with an extended battery I can get 3 days.
It depends a lot on how you configure your OS, how many apps are auto-sync, signal strength and the health of your battery.
Last one can't be underestimated, your battery losses about 10% of capacity per year under the best possible conditions. In realistic usage, your battery is junk after a couple of years.
I run my phone OC'd with 3g and auto sync. Before I replaced my battery half an hour of browsing would drain about 15%, same setup new battery, the drain is about 3%.
