Getting Samsung Galaxy Tab apps ona Xoom - Xoom General

I gave up my Samsung G Tab for a Xoom and I miss the "Files" app (File Manager Optimized for a tablet).
Doesn't anyone have the apk so I can install it on my Xoom?
Thx

I don't have the samsung tab, but on this forum there is a section for it. In the dev section grab a rom and extract the file.

Got it thx!

Did it work? I grabbed a few apk's from a ROM as well, and they wouldn't run, and that one in particular wouldn't install. Which ROM did you get them from?
Thanks!

Galaxy S System dump

Summary:
Hey guys I'm working on a project to port the touchwiz framework to other devices using an update.zip to get running some touchwiz apps like music player on our phones.
So what I need is the system dump, or better if someone could upload the 2.2 update /framework/; and if you can /app and /bin folders to any good uploading service(FTP/stashbox/multiupload/dropbox, you get it).
I'd really apperciate that! Thanks!
bump for interest.
Please reupload if you can!

My dad haves a samsung galaxy 2.1 how can i help you

Well wow, first of all I REALLY appreciate your help, second I have no idea how you do that... You have to somehow access the system folder.
You can try:
Connect the phone to pc via RECOVERY (you need root AFAIK) and copy whole system(not sd card!) and upload it.
Try to copy whole ./framework and ./app folder from system to sd card, using a file manager like... androzip.
Use KIES/nandroid to backup and upload your backup(no worries won't read your personal data ). Though dunno if we could use it... or how...
You can try google it!
Really thanks!
EDIT:
btw what android version is your dad's galaxy using? It's very important info! Thanks.
hehe, you want to port touchwiz ... a lot of us are trying to get rid of it
but i guess there are some apps that are really good (movie-player, cam-app, calculator, ...)
i will pull the system folder from my JPC firmware an send you a pm containing the download link shortly (will host it myself and i don't want to have a lot of downloads ...)
I love you.
BTW, why don't you just download firmware package of your choice and extract the files you need from that?
My dad's GS is on stock 2.1.. Think i need to root it first...

They are modified, if not the framework is missing, if it'd be there it would be modified. Can't use. Also there is no custom 2.2 f/w as far I searching, and the original is not in zip format.

How extract a .rfs file from an firmware release:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751827
/system can be found in factoryfs.rfs that is in CODE*.tar and a CODE*.tar is in almost every firmware release.
Thanks

Dany0,
http://db.tt/u8Hwlue contains the de-odexed framework files and system apps files. Note that a number of apks had been deleted from stock, but still the twlauncher is still there.
Hope this help, and good luck to your porting.
hi i want to port these
just a thing to ask
are the system apps deodexed or is it just the framework that has been deodexed

as far as i understand it stock firmwares are never deodexed. but why don't you just look into /system/app/. if there are any *.odex files around you know for sure that it's not deodexed

Gallery 2D apk

So I found this APK here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=750292
Question is, can I just rename or freeze "Gallery3d.apk" under system/app and place this APK and then install it via Astro on our phones to use the older 2D gallery?
i REALLY don't like the 3D gallery.. and before I go borking up my phone I wanted to check.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Ok.. so that didn't work. Any ideas?

Why not just remove the old gallery.apk from system/apps and put the new one there?

Wrong forum.
Thread moved to General.
My bad about wrong forum.
Is replacing the apk with the new one after renaming it any different? From swapping them out? The one on my phone is named gallery3d.apk. the one I want to replace it with is gallery.apk
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I don't think you need to rename it. Just move gallery3d.apk to the sdcard in case you need it then put gallery.apk in system/apps and see if your phone recognizes it.
Sent from my StupidFast/Blackhole/Revolution Fascinate
Nope. Didn't work

Hm. Are you running a deodexed rom? If so, is the gallery.apk (2d gallery) a deodexed version of that app? If it isn't then it would be incompatible.
i am running deodexed .. gotcha.. this is all still new to me. Thanks.. Now the hunt is on for a deodexed 2d gallery.apk.
=)
I posted a thread in APPS section about this very thing, someone replied but I have yet to try it out honestly, been sick/busy, if it helps.

(REQ) Market apk

Hi
I have a uk milestone and I messed up my android market
Can anyone upload his market apk and also market updater
please
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
That is pretty much impossible because Google doesnt share the market app for download.. they have copyright on it or something like that, i dont know exactly the reason but you can always google it
Not an official google apk
U just need to pull the market apk from the /system/app directory it is called vending.apk and marketupdater.apk
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
I have uploaded the two apks from my Milestone. Let us know if they work.
Hi,
I don't know what happened with my market app. Before I rooted and installed GOT rom, I had seen that the market app had comments in another tab/button. Now after using GOT, I restored my phone to the latest original stock version (still rooted). I don't see that change any more
Anyone please confirm this?
Thanks!

That's not the latest market your stuck with the old version. But if you take the vending.apk file out of this archive and put it in with the gapps.zip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9741682&postcount=56
then you have the new market and this one also adapts the language of the market to the language of the phone. Just installed and tested it.
Good luck with it
I do have problem with market (FC) after restore from Titanium Backup. Download Gapps package and update from OR is the fast and easy way to recover market.

Hi there, I also can't do the update to google maps 5.40 :-(
I already post the problem in a german forum, but there is no one else, who got any problems with the update so far.
I decide to contact Acer tomorrow and I hope they got a solution for this.
Maybe it has something to do with the different versions of the rom.
By the way my Build Version is Acer_A500_1.107.01_EMEA_CU7
I also find out, that my version of google maps is very old. I got the version 5.20 on my tablet :-(

It's a really stupid question but did you hit the update button? Not the one over the apps in the left side but under the open, somewhere in the middle.
Hi there
Yes of course did I hit the update button ;-)
But it won't finish the installation successfull :-(
I also got an Samsung I9000 and I tried to exchange the maps.apk on the A500 with the new one from the smartphone, but unsuccessfull.
First I renamed the maps.apk into mapsold.apk on the tab and copied the file from the I9000 into the system/app folder, but the A500 still
starts the old one. Really strange.
When I moved the file mapsold.apk to the external sd-card, the app icon disapeared in the app list and this ist more strange.
I give up for this time and will contact acer and ask them to solve this problem.
I hope the can explain it to me...
Good night....

it's possibly because of where the original APK for google maps is located. A possible workaround (please backup your google maps APK) is to:
1. Enable root access on your tablet
2. Download root explorer
3. Using root explorer, delete the google maps APK file from the system/app directory
4. Using the Google market download google maps - it should allow you to install it now into user memory space
i could now successfully update! The problem was i was just having 200 Mb left on sd card...dunno why this was not inogh...i deleted some movies now i have around 4 Gb left and update succeed!
Hi, I tried it under root. I delete the original file with rootexplorer and installed google maps again from the market. The installation still failed :-(
I wrote an email to acer support and i'm waiting for an answer.
Maybe something is wrong with my tab or with the rom.
Wish all of you a nice weekend

[Q] I cannot install Nexus Q app on my Galaxy S3

Hi
I have a problem that I cannot install Nexus Q app from market on my Galaxy S3 (stock rom)
it says incompatible device,
I wonder why
even I tried to download apk and install it gives me package paste error
is it meaning the app only runs on Android 4.1? it wont work on 4.0 or below?
It will work once the Q is available for shipping. I contacted Google about it. They said there were still some bugs being worked out but it will be available at launch.

Yes you need 4.1 unless check development forum and see how to change the Q .apk file to work on ICS

I have seen several people say that you need to be running JB to get the Q to work. In the devices manual it says that you need a device running at least GB. Did I miss something here? No way Google is going to release this device to the masses when it's only compatible OS is not even released yet.
I am guessing that at launch Google will update youtube and Play Music to be compatible.

There is a Google support page for the Nexus Q (can't find it right now) that says the current applications only work on JB and the backwards compatible application will be available when they start shipping. If you want to try to get it to work on ICS before then see this thread in the development forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28656080&postcount=1
