Shadownet. Flash working - Xoom General

Watching Showtime right now on this website. Set user agent to Android. This is a work around until we get the real deal.

I'm sorry. Download Skyfire from market. You'll need that browser.

Amazing. These are the posts I like to see as opposed to the whiny ones.
This launch is taking me back to the G1 launch...

Explain what you did, what you downloaded...every detail please.

For some reason Skyfire is able to stream flash content on this site. Click on the video icon and wait for it to buffer. You'll see the player pop up and then the live channel streams.

Skyfire uses a server based flash implementation..it decodes flash video on a server and sends it to you in h.264.
This is not flash on the xoom.

I think he's just trying to explain skyfire has always run flash in browser. It's not a recent work around or even something new, and it works on pretty much all flash videos.

No, it's not.

Exactly - it has nothing to do with Flash.
I am curious how long will they be able to keep it up - who is paying for all this traffic created and servers.
Skyfire is no longer providing its services in Poland - maybe they start to be the victim of their own success?
I want to see real Flash and if I will be able to watch HULU for free like on the PC.

iPlayer for Android released - and NOW WORKING!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2010/06/bbc_iplayer_on_mobile_a_new_ve.html
From this BBC blog, the new iplayer mobile site for android has been released and uses Flash to deliver its content. It says you need Froyo 2.2 and Flash installed, then just goto iplayer site.
But has anyone managed to get it working, mine just constantly tries to load the video.
Every video I tried failed to load - can't remember the error message now. On wifi too.
Still bookmarked it though.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the object of it? The mobile stream is a 400kbps optimized stream which should look a LOT better than a non-optimised stream through the full site.
It works now!!

Because its paid for by our TV licenses, ie its not free.
I get the error saying that I should use Wifi to access the service as 3G is limited to Vodafone and 3 only. Except my phone IS connected to Vodafone.
Will try with Wifi when I get home.
Yep, same problem.
Wifi fine, Voda 3G = no go.
works a treat now over wifi!
I'm just getting the normal desktop site when I go to the following URL, is there a special one?
http://beta.bbc.co.uk/iplayer
yup and our tv fee's are going up year on year so the rest of the world can get a cheap proxy and watch for free surely this is theft same as stealing cable etc.
I think the bbc's corporate arm should have a paid version of iplayer for use outside the uk, i dont think UK residents should pay for other countries to use it.
just a personal annoyance of mine.
or better still get rid of the f*cking fee's altogether

It doesn't work in US. However, I can access "normal" version of iplayer using skyfire.
It doesn't show up BBC Radio Scotland and BBC Radio Ulster either, and there's no live service.

Solution to 'no movie rentals for root users' problem

I was just thinking about the whole movie rental thing not being available to root users because they are lumping us all in with thieves. How's this for a solution?
Instead of making it where we can't rent movies, can't they just make it where we aren't able to download them to the device (in other words, no pinning.) and only make them streamable? I would be happy with that. I mean, it would suck for flights and stuff where you don't have a connection, but It'd be better than the solution that they've currently got going.
Thoughts?
screw that they get no money
the movie industry can continue to screw themselves over
Yeah I dont understand... it just gives people a REASON to Pirate movies.
"oh I cant rent this movie on my tablet? Fine then I'll just hit up a torrent site"
Expecting the media copyright holders to be reasonable might be a bit naive
Google has to go along with whatever crazy **** they demand to license their content.
I have no problem whatsoever paying for a rental. I pay for netflix, hulu and frequently comcast on-demand stuff already. If I want to watch a movie on my tablet though, and the easiest thing to do is hit up usenet, then so be it. It usually downloads faster that way anyway.
If they want my money, they just have to make it convenient or at the very least not annoying...

Has anyone tried Amazon's video service? Not sure if it works on the Xoom / if it uses a special player.

On another thread someone said that rooted Xooms could rent Google movies, just rent them through the web-based market. I haven't tried it yet.
web market works
Web market works for movie rentals through the native browser, helps to be logged into YouTube with the purchasing account through the browser as well. Also u have to set the quality lower if u didn't purchase the HD version. Works fine on my rooted 3.1 xoom. I have the hulu 10.3 and I believe the root 3.1 included the ua-string. I get errors trying to watch it through the native video app and I can't figure out how to open it in the native YouTube app, but full screen works fine through the browser streaming.
Same applies to watching it through browser on any computer too, we should get more then a day to watch it through...
Just purchase mega viewer pro... problem solved lol

Does it allowed to be downloaded/pinned? I'd like to find a solution for watching offline as I travel often.
All this is going to do is make people want to pirate movies. If it isn't easy to just purchase the movie than people are just going to go through other routes to get it on their device.
They are targeting root users, root users are the ones that know how to get stuff on the device without having to go through the market. In my opinion they will for sure lose more money by doing this.

Hulu finally works!

No, I was not able to get flash to install or anything crazy like that. Adobe should be releasing flash for ARMv6 processors sometime soon, so until then you can sit tight and enjoy partial flash support (Yes, you can stream TV shows from Hulu!!!!) using Puffin Browser. It is paid app available on the market, and while it's not perfect, it gets the job done. Video playback is a little choppy, but if you let it buffer things play somewhat smoothly.
Does it work with megavideo?
Yes it works with megavideo but it is choppy and lagging a litle bit, also you can't use the fullscreen mode.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Mmmh... I'm not going to buy it if it's still buggy...
AFAIK Puffin uses cloud computing to render flash... nice one btw!... But I'll not use it by any means for facebook, payments and anything that involves passwords and credit card numbers until im sure that they have secure servers or something...
I will neither condone the act of pirating software, nor will I condemn those that do. I will say this though. I'm sure that one can find many a paid app's apk file if you look hard enough. There is no credit card required for curiosity.

Is it possible to watch XfinityTV or HBOGo on A500?

Just got my A500 via Staples mail order. Using the stock browser, I tried to catch up on my Falling Skies via XfinityTV with no success. Instead of a show, I got a message to install Microsoft Silverlight plug-in.
One of the reasons I got a tab is to be able to watch shows online when I'm stuck waiting for family at rehearsals, etc. I already have an e-reader and a video player, so this is the gap I need to cover.
Is this possible? Do I need a different browser? Or am I outta luck?
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: In case anybody else is interested in this, Comcast "thinks" that the Xfinity android app will be updated to allow actual tv episode watching in a couple of months. Apple took precedence and they will eventually finish working on it for Android. Meanwhile, their app is good for controlling your DVR remotely, which is useless for me, which is why I tried to watch through the browser. Which is why I ended up posting here.
As far as I know there isn't any silverlight support for android yet. There was a project called moonlight that was supposedly going to bring silverlight to android but I did not hear anything new about it for the past 6 months, so I assume it is dead.

To whom? It's hardly Acers or Google's fault that these sites decided to use a Windows only technology for their media streaming.
HBOGo on A500 works.
And given that HBOGo app streams video in H.264, the stream from the website is higher quality.
I am using Dolphin Browser
Did you install the app (from where, I don't see it in market) or do you just navigate to hbo dot com via browser? Thanks.

Almost. If you're on honeycomb 3.1, you need to go into your browser's settings and set the viewing mode to "desktop." If you're still on 3.0, you will need to set your browser to debug mode to enable desktop UA string.
Though really, you will want to watch on 3.1 because supposedly it gets better video performance with Flash.
And if some of the online shows require real player how do you watch that since
the extension is .smil and android real player can't open that to play.
Trying to run hbogo on stock browser along with dolphin opera and Firefox all a nogo has laggy video audio is great but picture very slow running 3.2 stock rom but these sites only run when in desktop mode tablet mode not an option any have a working apk version to install and see if we can get it working or some good setting for the browser

Greetings everyone, this is my first post. I found this comment and recalled seeing this on a blog of Jeffrey Steadfast who was developing that:
Jeffrey Stedfast said... Liam,
Unfortunately there's no update. We've been so focused on fixing bugs and implementing new features for MonoTouch and Mono for Android we just haven't had time to look at Moonlight anymore.

I would think that more or less confirms your thought that it might be dead.

I preface this with, i dont code flash, BUT how is this web developers issues when adobe is claiming flash is alive and well for desktops? These days companies cant afford to provide 2 completely different web sites for desktop and mobile and on the desktop there are just too many things that can be done with flash that cant be done in html 5 and we wont even talk about the effort to convert even if they wanted too. This is really a web fragmentation issue that needs to be adressed soon.
I'll also add that not being able to set useragent in chrome or even reliably in stock browser is driving me nuts. I hate mobile sites on my tab.

i wish people would actually know what the hell they are talking about before they come out with stuff like ' adobe are crap, flash is crap, yadd yadda yadda'.. if these people had ever built a decent working website they would know that HTML5 is not the answer to everything and it is still very limited when compared to Flash.. thats just how it is, its no one fault.
the question we should be asking is how can dolphin implement flash fine and chrome/google cant/wont/dont?
flash works fine on chrome desktop, i just dont think they have activated yet on chrome beta.

Strange, I have was checking The Verge with chrome for Android and the embedded YouTube video player works. Also the YouTube website, maybe chrome knows that YouTube is a video format and embeds a special player (HTML5).

Who is up in arms? Flash is old outdated and a resource hog. I'm glad they are making themselves obsolete.. and their software is bloated garbage. And support and update ain't much of a difference. No future browsers will have flash...unless you want to use old software in the coming years...
No where did I whine about it... talk to yourself about whining....

actually dolphin browser is using the same engine as the stock browser - that's why you get flash on dolphin too since you get it on the stock browser. and if i'm not mistaken dolphin browser is an extension of the stock browser, so code wise everything it should be almost the same except the UI and other additional features that makes dolphin unique.
Chrome is a totally diff browser - so flash needs to be supported in it I suppose in order to view flash sites in chrome for android.
thank you everyone for your response.
