Atrix Loses Internet Connection With AT&T - Atrix 4G General

I've had my Atrix for a couple of days now, and twice internet connection with AT&T just stops working.
Going into airplane mode and then back to normal still does not fix the issue. Wifi works, however this should not be the solution.
Besides AT&T Gimping our HSUPA speeds and not providing an app for the FM Radio, the loss of internet connectivity is pretty annoying.
So far the only way for me to resolve the issue is to shut down or restart the phone.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have not rooted my phone yet because I want to see how things work stock.
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I had this happen to me 3 times already..among all the issues i am seeing with this device.
You are correct, nothing helps but a reboot.

My phone just lost its connection and had to reboot. This happened after I disconnected from my vpn. Have to try to replicate the issue. Will keep you posted.

Gimping the HSUPA is...but how are not providing an FM radio app and the connectivity problem you're having AT&T's fault? Nobody else seems to be having a problem losing connection (meaning it's either you or your device that's gone bad) and the FM Radio not having an associated app is Motorola's fault.
Assign blame where it's due, plz.

Because AT&T is the APN providing internet access to our phones. Motorola has the FM hardware built in, AT&T is not making use of the FM Radio hardware which is already provided by Motorola.
If I was the only one with this problem, then others would not have stated they have the same issue.
So I blame AT&T when there is no connectivity on my phone because I'm paying them to be my service provider. AT&T also has restricted many features on phones which have applicable hardware.
Besides, you are not the authority as to who I wish to blame. If you don't have anything useful to post, then I suggest you just stay quiet since your reply is just wasting our time.

This happend to my GF's Atrix last night on her way home from work. Said she rebooted it, and it still wouldn't connect. I rebooted it when she got home and it started working again.

Any chance this is related to not switching to the 4G data plans? Or has everyone done that?

We switched the plan when we ordered the phone online.

Mine has done it several times. It seems to happen after the connection drops for a weak signal. Then for some reason never comes back on. It is not just my internet connection, it is my entire signal that never comes back. I can't make calls either.

Same here, several times... id expect a patch coming shortly to remedy some of this BS.

i think all of these network issues all arond may be due to a deadline att has not met and is severely late on its 4g. Its prob updating its system. Just speculation.

this happened to me about 2 hours after I got the phone, once yesterday and once already this morning.
only a reboot fixes it. very annoying.
Is there anything I can post up to help devs figure this one out?

I didn't check my phone status, next time it happens I'll try to make/receive a call to confirm.

I had the same problem today. I turned my wifi on because I was home and then I wanted to test my 3G speed at home. Turned wifi off and then I lost the data connection. It showed the H+ symbol and full bars but not the arrows below the H. I had to reboot the phone to fix the problem. Airplane mode didn't help.

Did you bother to get an ATT 4g sim?

serious 3G/EDGE issues with my G1

I have a rooted G1, iam running JF 1.42 RC33, i also have RC33 Radio.
i live in Chicago in a place where the 3G coverage is pretty good. in fact a month ago i was having perfect reception on my G1.
recently; i am having many issues with the data link (3G, EDGE)
simply, the phone does not pick the data link properly, and even if connected, it might drop the connection.
sometimes i have to go to settings, wireless, mobile networks, and click on "use 2G only" a couple of times to trigger the phone to connect... it will drop the connection when it goes to sleep !!!!
i have noticed that many times when the phone sleeps, it does not switch properly between the wifi and 3G [or EDGE], so i dont get my emails.
sometimes a reboot solves the problem, and some times it does not
i tried to flash the radio image again,,,, it didnt solve the problem.
any help will be highly appreciated.
If you've tried to reflash you radio and the results are the same it may not be your phone. It may be the network itself. You should call TMo to see if they have any issues in your area. About a month ago half the country went out for also half a day. It's rare but it happens. If no one else is having issues then it's possible the problem would be with the phone. You could try a wipe and/or reflash but it probably won't make any difference since it sounds like the radio (which you already tried flashing). Maybe also try checking to see if turning off data roaming will make any difference.
thank you for your response:
iam having this issue since a couple of weeks,, and i dont think it is a network issue.
i have tried to disable/enable data roaming,,,, it didnt help.
am i left to a "wipe" only.. ????
well you can give that a try and if that doesnt solve your problems then it may actually be a defect with your phone. also... ive had issues that my phone would lose data and voice even while i was on the phone. it would just disconnect then say no service. the problem wasnt my phone though... it was my sim card. if that sounds more like your problem you can get a new one for about $20 through a tmobile store.
i didnt encounter any voice call drop issues.
when i wipe, i will need to reflash everything, right?
I live in the chicago area as well and my edge/3g has been off and on like crazy over the past 4 or 5 days. I will look at my phone and it won't have an E or 3G. I'm running jv1.42rc33 with apps and caches to sd card. I'm not sure if its a network problem or my phone itself.
So you both live in the Chicago and are having issues with 3G/Edge and you doubt that it's a network problem??? I hope you didn't do your wipe yet.
I'd call T-Mobile and ask to speak with their data support (Tier 3) group and verify that it's a problem with your handsets before you do anything (like reflash, wipe, etc).
i live in chicago as well.
T-Mobile was/is having 3g network issues. T-Mobile where not aware of the issues. They say they are on the issue to solving it. :

I didn't explain myself well there. I'm under the impression it is a network problem. I learned my lesson last time there was an outage. I did like three wipes in four days thinking it was my phone.
It isn't you - my 3G (also Chicagoland) has been up and down since Wednesday. It is completely down again this morning. All day yesterday it was probably up for no more than an hour.
F'ing T-Mobile made me wipe my phone, then drive to the local store to get a new SIM, and they refused to acknowledge that it was a network issue. The sales rep at the T-Mobile store was having the same issue.

DOH! That sucks! LOL. If you're referring to the outage that we had about a month ago I took the liberty of posting a thread on here warning people not to wipe because they might not be able to sign in because of the network issues. There were so many that did and I was almost one of them myself until I wised up and decided to call first.
hello guys,,, thanks for everybody who in contributing in this thread.
i can see iam not the only one having issues in Chicago, t-mobile said they had no problems,,,,
what makes me tend to believe them is sometimes if i play with the phone the 3G shows up,
this is an experiment for you to try (it worked for me):
enable tethering using the open source gui, then disable it again.... 3G shows up !!!! even if you enable wifi... the phone will switch properly between wifi and 3G (when sleeping).
it worked for me last night and is still working now.
if you guys try it and it works,, this means t-mo has no problem,,, and we need to figure out what is wrong with the combination/configuration we have...

G2 Data Connection

Has anyone been having issues with the G2 Data? This morning and another morning this week my data failed, I tried going into airplane mode then restarting the phone completely still no signal and no cell signal either. My friend has a hacked and unlocked iPhone and his is working fine so I know its not a network issue with the towers... As well another co-worker has a myTouch 3g with no reported issues. Thankfully I have a wifi signal here at work.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
That unlocked iPhone your buddy is using is EDGE only, obviously. That's going to give a better connection inside. Try running 2G only mode next time you get that issue.
I bet it was just a brief network outage in your area. It happens sometimes.
Not brief if it's a network outage... my connection is still gone... both my friends have theirs and one is on a myTouch 3g...

I do have occasional data connectivity issues, however, not that severe. Just your (what seems to be) typical "arrow stuck in the up position" issue.

Sounds like you have a problem then. I haven't experienced that on my G2 yet. My N1 forever had data connectivity issues.
Are you using the new simcard that possibly came with your G2? I have no idea if that makes a difference, but just asking...
Call T-Mobile and see what's up. Maybe they can refresh you on the network.

I had to exchange a couple until I got one with a solid 3G connection. Previous G2's had no connection or were in Edge 90% of the time.
Nothing wild here.
It seems to work as its supposed to.
Would love to see mine switch to 3G. Been on Edge 100% since I got it Tuesday. Advertised in a soled 3G area, but no luck. T-Mo CS politely told me I will love Edge. Will be switching to Sprint Epic if nothing changes in next few days.
Mine does that too. I have to restart it.
Wonder if the supposed OTA-vapor new radio will fix that.
I've been having data issues too, seems like it has to do with how my phone is held (HTC antennagate?) I hope the mythical OTA comes with a radio fix (if that is the cause) and/or a vorpal blade....

I have a ticket open with tmobile about my data issues.
I'll have my phone on the desk and it'll have 1 or 2 bars of H and then I'll pick it up and its goes to G then to E then to nothing. Its worse when I open the keyboard.
I love this phone so much I hope its just a software fix. Is the OTA going to have radio fixes?

Exact same problem here. It's so frustrating. I've already exchanged it once and spent an hour on the phone with tech support. If it keeps up, I don't know what I'm going to do.
I am not liking the data issues.... I love the phone besides.
Fixed with a soft reset but that has to change...
There are a bunch of us with signal issues. I live in Vegas where we have great HSPA+ coverage and Im still getting a lot of issues even with 3G, that I didnt have with my Nexus One.
Check out the thread on the T-Mobile Forums. (I cant post the link since Im new here )
My issues are simply the phone works one min then the next there is ZERO signal, if I dont move but restart the phone I have full signal again. Some times the signal comes back on its own then other times it doesnt and I have missed calls after the restart.
I bought my dad a G2 as well (upgraded him from his G1) for his birthday, and he is having similar issues. I went into my local t-mobile store and they replaced the sim card 2x now and that didnt help. What I did find that helps is that if you set it 2G mode the phones seems to work fine. This is a temp fix but its retarded that T-Mobile's fastest phone is being forced to run in 2G mode.
I hope someone on here can figure out the issue or t-mobile comes out with a OTA fix asap.
Wow, the rep just tried to tell me I live in an area that is only covered by edge. I asked why I've had 3g hooked on my phones for the past 2 years and why my girlfriends phone says 3g. She then said I was wrong and she didn't know why the last rep told me I was suppose to have 3g. She then directed me to the coverage map where I pointed out to her how wrong she was.
....and she's a PDA specialist.
What upset me was how she was trying to convince me I lived in an area where 3G was not available. Despite having had 3G at this location for years. I told her I'd just call back tomorrow.
Edit: She must be on drugs, I see that I'm back on 3G.
The rep on the T-Mobile forums is asking you to PM them your info:
Hi everybody!
If you are experiencing this, we would like to hear from you. Please send me a PM with a few details. The location information requested is particularly important.
(Do not post your private information here in public.)
1. Describe your signal indicators when things are working well. For example, "Full signal with an H."
2. Describe your signal indicators when you are experiencing the issues in question (No signal, one bar, E, G, etc).
3. Provide a location where you are experiencing issues (city, state, zip code)
•Are you aware of other T-Mobile phones experiencing or not experiencing these issues at the same location?
•Are you indoors or outdoors when you are experiencing the issues in question?
4. Provide a location where things are working well, if available. (city, state, zip code)
5. The T-Mobile phone number in question.
Thank you!

I've had prevalent connection issues as well. For me, turning off Bluetooth and WiFi fixed the issues and I was able to get data via mobile network again. Bluetooth seems to be the main offender.
This exact thing used to happen with my N1, and this was fixed with rooted builds (Cyanogen/Enomther) from what I saw...... *grumble*
Sorry to resurrect such an old thread here, but I'm having data issues today in the Chicagoland area. Anyone else having problems?
I first thought it was an issue with the latest CM7 nightly I flashed last night, so this morning I reverted back to CM6.1.1 and still having problems with data. It shows I have 3G/H and strong voice signal, but no data is coming/going. When I reverted back to CM6.1.1 I did a complete wipe and then nandroid restore.
Thoughts?

2nd phone same problem.

Hey guys, I bought this phone for my wife about 3 weeks ago and we having severe issues with it. It seems that there is a problem with going from wifi to cellular signal. Sometimes the phone wont get a signal until it reboots and at times it dosent even do that. Also data has been non-existent except for the first days we had the phone. I don't think we could have gotten two defective phones with the same problem.
At first we thought it was the sim card, but we went to Tmobile and changed it out, also I used my sim from my Vibrant and did not work as well but her sim worked just fine on my phone. I am also noticing the wifi signal is very weak compared to my Vibrant. I though this phone was superior to my Vibrant hardware wise, but I'm starting to think otherwise.
Can anybody shed some light if you have had the same issues? My wife really loves the phone and she just wants it to work properly. What settings do you guys use under wireless and networks?
Have you tried factory reset? That will give you the original wireless settings that everyone else uses.

[Q] Nexus 4 drops mobile network randomly

Hi Guys,
I recently switched from the Nexus S forums to the Nexus 4 forums
I'm loving my N4 so far
Perhaps too much, because I've been ignoring a problem that I've been facing. My phone drops the mobile network for a few seconds, once in a while.
I was able to find a way to replicate it. I think this happens when the N4 tries to switch on data on 3g or H.
To replicate this,
1) I installed the Network Signal Info app(can't post link here )
2) Next I tried to switch off wifi. As soon as the wifi is disconnected, the phone tries to connect to mobile data network and my phone disconnects completely for a few seconds. See attached screenshot for logs.
Anyone else facing the same issue?
Thanks,
Spaccount
Note that I can't replicate the issue every time. However it does occur very frequently if you first keep it on Wi-Fi for at least 10 minutes.
Thanks.

Can someone please try to replicate?
I'd like to know if this is an isolated hardware issue. I just finished 2 weeks on my phone.. Hopefully I can get it replaced
How long is mobile data disconnected? You do know that if you are on wifi mobile data is disconnected on all phones, it reconnects when you either turn off wifi or go out of range of the wifi network. It will take a few moments for it to reconnect to mobile data and vice versa, its not an instantaneous reconnect, it can take 10 seconds or a minute or two.

Okay I see what your talking about now, I had removed Network Signal Info off my phone and just reinstalled it. And no my phone doesn't totally drop signal, it drops but not by much when it switches from wifi to mobile data. Are you on stock or custom ROM or Kernel. Its like your radio is turning completely off during the switch to and from wifi, If your on a custom kernel I would suspect it to be the problem. If not then it might be a hardware issue.

Happens on my iphone 5 on t-mobile when is goes from edge to 3g or 3g to edge, I think it's cause of the phone switching the bands

So maybe its a carrier issue, I'm on ST AT&T. You on T-Mobile by chance? I had signal issues when I had them and dropped them in 2 weeks. Could only get a weak signal in my living room and then would get no network detected in my bathroom 10 feet away.
Okay not sure what caused this but I had my phone off for about 20 minutes and when I turned it back on to retest it I got no signal, then turned off wifi and signal came back, then turned off wifi and signal remained the same. Not sure if this effects my ability to send/receive voice or text. Its probably just the phone saving battery by turning off the cell radio.

I had this exact same issue when I first received my Nexus 4. I thought it may had been a faulty sim card, so I replaced that, twice, same result. I went ahead and formated the phone back to stock, same result. Checked and made sure APN settings were correct, same result. Contacted T-Mobile, they reset my phones service and the data in my area, same result. After both I and T-Mobile ran out of ideas I decided to contact Google for a replacement. Turns out it was a faulty antenna and my new device has been working fine since.

I just called google and requested a replacement.
The lady said I should get an email in 2 days. I'm on day 13, so I'm cutting it close
Also wanted to add that I ran the same test(as in the video) while on a phone call. It dropped the call and locked me out of the network for 10 seconds just like in the video.
I logged to XDA to report this issue it so annoying and the biggest proplem that my N4 seems to stuck on 3G and won't open internet untill it connects to H
it also happens when connected to E as I dont have 3G coverage over there and it also drop many times
mine seems to cut the radio off for seconds

Based on the following link, this might be a software issue. I know the issue described in the link is not exactly what I experienced, but is similar in some ways:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=40514
It's supposedly fixed in 4.2.2
Will let you know if I get the update before I RMA(don't want to force the update).

Hi All,
I wanted to share an update. I got my replacement device yesterday. It works just fine.
So this is a hardware issue.
Thanks for all your help with my questions!
Similar problem on Galaxy Nexus
Hi all,
first of all, I know that there's a different forum for the Galaxy Nexus, but since I have a similar problem as discussed here I thought maybe someone can help...
I also have random disconnects from my mobile network, but since I almost never use WLAN it might not be the exact same problem as discussed here, right?
I'm running cm-10.1-20130416-EXPERIMENTAL-maguro-gerrit-35930.zip, and - as I said - my phone randomly disconnects (shows the "no signal" sign in the status bar) and relatively quickly connects back to the mobile network and everything works like normal. The whole reconnection process takes about 5s or so, I don't have to re-enter the PIN or something...
Any ideas how I could figure out what the reason might be?

Exclamation marks on WiFi and Phone signal

Every once in a while I go to use the phone and my WiFi and Phone signal will have exclamation points beside them. I have to disconnect and reconnect on the WiFi to fix the issue. Is anyone else having this issue?
I only see the exclamation point after boot or when I turn on WiFi: the antenna is in the process of connecting to the network / wireless router. Otherwise, I don't see the ! again.
I had it this morning. Turned off Wifi, and the cell exclamation point went away.

Same here. My phone was sitting beside me and had been getting calls and text messages all day long. I picked it up to look for something on Google Play and it would not connect. I was getting it on my cell signal but that was before I turned on Advanced calling. I was out of town for a conference and would see it while I was on the phone and email was trying to sync. Things that make you go hmmmm.
This happened to me tonight for about an hour. I tried everything but eventually it came back on it's own but only on 3g.

The exclamation point means that the WiFi or cellular signal aren't getting connectivity. The reason that turning signals on/off works is because you force them to reconnect.
You're getting these indicators because for some reason, your WiFi and cell signal are dropping out. If you were at a conference for a few days, then it makes sense you would see that on WiFi (since conference centers notoriously have horrible WiFi; especially when you have a few hundred people all trying to use the WiFi at once). If you saw it on your cell signal, then for whatever reason the cell connectivity dropped out for a moment.
This also happens on other phones. Have you ever tried to use internet connectivity on another phone, only to have it not work? You see full signal strength; you see the data indicator look like it's trying to push / receive data; but for whatever reason, you're not getting data for the moment. This isn't new to the Moto X Pure. It happens on other phones as well. The only difference is that the Moto X Pure tells you its happening.
Honestly, I really don't remember it happening on my previous phones. I'm not saying it did not happen but if it did it was not on a regular basis like here. My business is in my home. I have a wireless router downstairs and upstairs. It has already happened twice today.
I regularly get connection timeouts when browsing the play store, surfing the web, and using xda. On both WiFi and cellular data. I'm assuming its a software issue.
I believe that the cell bars with an exclamation point means that you have voice but no data connectivity. That's the way it has tested out for me over the years on various Android phones. So, you can make and receive calls, but not data.
I think, but am not sure, that the exclamation point with the WiFi icon means that the OS connected to the WiFi access point but not the Internet. That would indicate a handshake issue between the phone and the access point/router, maybe resulting in the phone not receiving an IP address or something. Though I've only seen this happen once or twice over many years, disconnecting and reconnecting the WiFi (turning it off then on on the phone) usually clears the problem.
Just sent mine back as my signal issues really hindered use of phone. Was hoping for ROM before return deadline to see if it would fix it. But that has been slower than I thought. Tried everything in the book to fix this issue. Doesn't matter if I'm in excellent coverage or not. Screen off phone goes 1x then screen on stays until I play around with settings or hidden menu. This is on Verizon. Tried new sims. Wonder if Verizon is doing something to limit these unlocked phones.

Easy thing to check, make sure your SIM is properly seated.

That was a given. New nano sim not trimmed down micro. At first I had trimmed my g2 micro sim which I thought was reason for issues at first. I have a friend at local Verizon store who is more knowledgeable than usual CS agents. Still couldn't get anything to stick. Hidden menu setting for network always switches back to lte ,gsm CDMA auto prl. Phone was purchased through amazon. Hope its just hardware related. Gonna go to best buy and pick one up there. Easier to deal with them.

Liked the phone so much. I decided to reorder. Will have today. Here's to hoping it fixes my issue. Lots of signal issues with the custom ROMs right now. Especially Verizon users. Hope it gets ironed out soon. This really makes me think Verizon is doing something even though its not a carrier phone.
It's not necessarily a phone issue. My wife's Moto X 2013 and my Moto X 2015 had this come up on both phones at the same time, exclamation mark by both wifi and lte signal icons. Rebooting phone didn't help. Calling still worked, data did not. I went in and rebooted my router, and the exclamation marks went away on both phones.
I gotta try that.My fiance's X 2013 always gets it in the apartment.Maybe I should try to get her a new sim as well?

I had this happen to me today. I had installed an app that was burning through my cell data, used 90% and I have two weeks left on my billing cycle. I turned of cell data because even with just routine phone useage I did not see the 10% lasting. However after doing this I could not connect to wifi. I have full strength signal and it says it is connected but there is an exclamation mark by the wifi meter and nothing will connect to the internet. I turned cell data back on, and it connects, but wifi will not. I found that by running my vpn it connects and now I get data via wifi through the vpn. If I shut the vpn off, no more wifi data. WTF??? I've researched and this seems to be a lollipop issue on several different phones. I've tried every solution I could, (except for those that require root). Has no one found a solution for this? Motorola?
