Samsung Epic Froyo Battery Popup Disableing - DONE - Epic 4G General

Ok all, here's a tool to for disabling the battery popup on a Froyo Epic.
github(dot)com/redrake/android-modify-jar
It's a tool for rooted phones that allows you to modify/patch jar files in system/framework. There is only one included patch right now, which disables the battery full popup!
Not for windows yet apparently. . .

Is there anyway to do this without rooting?
I know, I know, "just root idiot!" But I just bought the phone about a month or so ago and still not confident in my Android skills, don't want to brick it.
Thanks!

No. Rooting is really easy, just get the drivers and open a file with you phone plugged in.

I'm with ya! But last week I made the plunge. There are good video's to walk you through it. I actually felt more confident doing it when one of the phones on my plan hit the renewal date.

great job!

I'm so confused about this thread.

Fool Me Once, Shame On You

I've been lurking here ever since I got my very first Android device, the beloved Nexus One and have been contemplating rooting for a long time. I've watched the videos 10x and read all of the articles 10x.
Last night I finally had enough of stock and rooted and OH MY FU*KING GOD!!
The developers on here need a golf clap for all of the hard work they've put into the Nexus One.
I was impressed before but I'm completely wowed now.
It.
Just.
Works.
FAST!!!!!
I now have the superphone I've been reading about.
Thank you guys!!
PS NOTE TO PAST SELF: Stop being such a pus*y and do it.
I still haven't rooted mine...want to tho. And now I think it's time....
maybe not.
I rooted on tuesday night and have to agree that its well worth it. The phone is absolutely amazing now. The only issue is that I can't put it down.
I wanted to post a thanks as well but figured I'd just jump on here. Without all the informative guides and mods the developers on here made, I wouldn't have done this. So thank you.
i want to root mine but im afraid of voiding the warranty. im thinking of sending it in. i have a problem with my touchscreen.
LOL! nice thread! i felt exactly the same. When i first got my ATT n1 i was skeptical cause its was a $600 phone and i got it day 1. so i wasnt sure if the initial produtcion would have problems. 5 days later phone was running fine, so i said screw it! lets unlock, root, and install a custom rom! I absolutely love the phone now! Well, before i loved it as well, but now woooo! LOL. And if you follow the steps (not that hard to follow) youll be fine! Big thanks to all the developers here!
archillion - what kind of problems with the touchscreen are you having? if its the calibration problem (your touch doesnt register in the right place) a quick restart of the phone or power down and power up will fix that problem. Google is "said" to be working on fix on this. If its that bad why not get a replacement since youre still on warranty? And get to rooting?
i rooted mine the moment i got it lol...but ive been with android since the day the g1 came out and i havent had any problems so it never worried me..the only thing that was going through my head was DESIRE ROM DESIRE ROM DESIRE ROM lol

Can you list the sort of improvements you experienced after modding? Like how much faster the UI, or launching applications...etc.
I have chosen not to root mine and live with the stock ROM for a while. The voiding the warranty has a little to do with it but I also like the pushed ROM updates from Google. I'll root it and put it through it's paces at some point, but just don't need to yet.

Same.. I got a little tired of too much customization with my TP2.. wanna bask in the "stock glory" for a while
I'm still happy as standard. Yeah I'll probably unlock it in the future, but for now it's brilliant as it comes.
The warranty is a large force behind this of course.
which rom are you using now and what is exactly better zhen in stock...
to say its faster is easy but how do you recordnize it mine is very fast from stock

Gotta admit. For stock firmware, its pretty decent. They've definitely addressed the 3G radio issue cuz I'm getting a good 2.8Mbps dl and 1.5Mbps ul. Seems like they've hit the freq sweet spot with mine.

Well hello there Nexus One

Hello all I got my first Nexus One yesterday I know I should root it but I've never dropped the cash I did for a device I know there is a chance of a brick. I need to let the newness wear off.
But the purpose of this post is any suggestions on specific apps for the Nexus I can try out in the market. There are some that Ive read in this forum some but maybe some were left out.
Thanks in advance.
Just sayin, but the only real chance of a brick is to let your battery die or pull it while flashing the radio. (to my understanding)
try the XDADevelopers app, it's pretty nifty.
done and done has anyone ported swype to nexus yet

Thank you for these
Just make sure your battery is charged, you probably won't brick this phone unless your trying to.
While there's not much of a chance for bricking, it supposedly does void your warranty. Some people have been able to get work done even after unlocking though.
With that said, I thought the same thing and thought I would wait about a month before I unlocked it, but that lasted about 2 days lol.
I unlocked it and flashed Cyan's ROM and haven't looked back since.

If you didn't engrave it, don't root it yet. Use it for a week or two, make sure there's no reason to return/replace it due to some defect. If there is no reason, then root it =)
My only 2 reasons for rooting it are: WiFi tethering and Flashlight. Imo, there are no other real reasons to do it, stock rom is extremely well done and I didn't notice much difference between it and Cyan.
Just root it..you'll truly own your phone then. Unless you don't know how to read and follow instructions properly or are just plain incompetent..which I doubt you are since you found this forum~ the chances of bricking are low.
Root it and never look back.
Nah, give it a few days to let any hardware issues make themselves known, then root it if your of a mind.
If you don't root it, all you are going to be able to think about is rooting it. I say use it for a few days to make sure all the hardware is good and go for it. I think I lasted about 36 hours before giving in and I told myself that I wasn't going to do it!

I, too, have the same fears and concerns... so I've never really attempted to root the phone nor tried to. I guess I just like it the way it is.

My reasoning for wanting to root it, is so I can put the Desire rom on the device. I really enjoy the HTC Sense and android. The stock android on the Nexus One is fantastic I agree just IMO missing the Sense UI.

Noob question

So since mytouch was updated to 2.2.1 is it worth rotting still?
My old mytouch was in pretty bad condition so i never decided to root it... Well it fell in a big puddle of water so im filed a insurance claim and will have my new one Monday. Seeing as it wont be in such beat up condition do you think its worth rooting?
What are some of the benefits from gaining root? Not much of a phone hacking guy lol.
Know my way around a computer very well just i do not know what kind of benefits you will gain once ur root your phone.
I'v seen many links on how to root it not sure which one will be the best as most of them seem a bit old. Not sure if i will get another original mytouch or one with the 3.5mm jack
Not much of a reading guy are you either? It would really only take you 5min to either search here or google benifits of rooting, reasons to root etc....
But, if you cant do that, Id stay away from trying to root yoru phone because you will probably just end up bricking it and blaming it on a hard working developer

On the truck for delivery right now. I'll be rooting as soon as I get home to grab it, then running a restore of my apps through TiBu.
I want to, but this is my first Android phone and I'm new to all this. The tutorial doesn't back up before the whole process, so I'm wary.
How do I run a backup before proceeding with the breifmobile tutorial?
hopefully my store receives it in its shipment today

You can't, because you need root to backup.
But seriously, rooting is not dangerous at all. All it does is pushes a root exploit to your phone, runs it, then once it has temp root, it pushes su and installs superuser.

Mine should get here within the next couple of hours. (not really mine, its for my GF, to replace her N1)
I'll be rooting and installing ADW after its charged.
Mines on the truck out for delivery as well.
I'm sure I will root after some more reading. This is my first android and I look forward to tweaking it to the max as I have done with my winmo devices in the past. Root access seems to be right up my alley but I'm always kind timid when it comes to possibly voiding the waranty on my shiny new gadget.
Thanks designgears for your part in rooting this device. I'm very happy to see this information already available for when I am ready to take that step.
Well, as i live in the UK, i won't be able to report anything soon. Might consider getting it from America and hoping to God someone finds a way to unlock it. Expensive but might be worth it. I want one. Sucks
On the truck for delivery. I'll root tonight and commence playing.

Thanks for this simplified explanation. Makes me think more and more that I will be rooting sooner rather than later.
I hear that it is easy to unroot for warranty purposes. Is that true?
Mine should be here soon! I am so excited. can wait to root it, first thing! then maybe I will you know, in stall my SIM and maybe use it as a phone, but hacking comes first. Glad to have DG here and in support of this phone, makes me a little happier with it.
Mine is on truck for delivery to my local store. Will post here once I get it. Been Loyal Windows mobile user for 4 years and tried may cooked up ROMs.
Should be here today too!! Ill be rooting right when I get home too so I can restore my apps too!

Yep, just remove superuser and /system/xbin/su. Its a simple as starting up an adb shell, and deleting those two.

I HAD TO GO TO WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kids/Wife are home so hopefully it shows up... there's a snow storm though and the delivery guys are notorious for just not delivering in the snow... they drive by the houses they're supposed to and if they're not shoveled and salted they don't even get out of the truck... just drive on by.
I shoveled the entire route to my house from the road... lol.. it's not short.

Root on 3d maybe Shift too?

Just throwin out there. Andbody think our devs maybe able to use the same exploit? Or similar exploit? I mean maybe our devs can go back and find a similar hole in our kernel?
" Nfinite and Beyond! "
Well just tried the Evo3D temp root on the wifey's Shift and got all the way to the exploit+FAIL "exploit will not work on this device". Dam! But the Dev said on Twitter that it might work on other devices with a few tweaks.
https://twitter.com/#!/agrabren
Just thought I'd post to try to add some help to those of you who ran the OTA and lost root. Thought if it worked it would give one of our Dev's here a hole to get root back on the ole Shifty!
I tried the same exploit and just received an error that this device isn't supported. Here is the thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149998 I am not sure how it does it.. but maybe it could help?

Me too but I am sure it does a device check first. There may be a way but I just don't know how I really hope there is a root discovered soon..
Lol yall are playing with fire! Just wait till the devs get a exploit cus u cant unbrick your phone if u mess up the bootloader and ruu

Agreed...I'm waiting patiently. If there's no root in another week or so, I'll just reactivate my old Pre and wait it out, then switch back.
That we are , but with risk comes reward. What if it would've given us temp root? Maybe put us in the same boat as the 3d as far as it would put shift devs that much closer to a perm root method for those that took the OTA update.
Just my opinion but i see your point .

Well, for me, yes it is. The big thing for me is wifi hotspot, which you can't do on an un-rooted Shift. And honestly, I like the HP WebOS better than Android, but the lack of new apps and several other short comings pushed me over. Overall, I really like my Shift, but I need to get it rooted sooner than later or will need to go back to my Pre for a while.
