I work for corning, and when it comes to what products do and dont have gorilla, they keep it very hush hush.. Pretty much sounds like its a need to know type thing. They only put it on the website if they get the ok from the manufacture, which you can do a search on motorolas website for gorilla glass, and motorola will come out saying "x" phone has it, but yet corning hasnt updated the gorilla glass website. grrrr

Andy,
But, is it true that Motorola Xoom uses gorilla glass from Corning?
I still could not believe it because it is not in the official Xoom spec.

I honestly don't know. Personally I would they it would, given its in some of motorolas other products, and that they wanted the Xoom to be a higher end quality product. But I have not heard it confirmed by either company

I have a Droid (original) and it had Gorilla Glass, I love it. I have never used a screen protector and after 1.5 years of heavy use I have basically no major scratches.
I really hope the Xoom has Gorilla Glass too...

Ill second the lack of scratches on my droid, great stuff. I laugh at people who put screen protectors on it. Those are so soft they get scratches easily and then make people think that ther screen got saved when in reality it would have been fine. Just don't put it in your diamond filled pocket and you'll be fine.

is that why there are no screen protectors for the xoom.. iw as wondering wtf was up.

the xoom has gorilla glass, this has been known for awhile. it is 100% made with gorilla glass.

My Droid has succumbed to too many face plants on hard surfaces like hardwood floors, parking lots, and slickrock. The touchscreen has a big black mark that looks like a gash, but it isn't. Now it does all sorts of crazy things like send texts without me touching the device. Don't get me wrong, i think it would have shattered like iphones do without the gorilla glass. I drop things a lot.
Trying to hold out for th Thunderbolt to replace it, but the delays are not making it easier.

Funny - contact enough random CSR's and you'll hear about every answer whether true or not.

Read the top paragraph on this page...then look at the Motorola section it's right there in black and white, and from the way it's written there may be even more devices that may have Corning Gorilla glass that are not on the list.

Nope no gorilla glass, Acer confirmed to me the other day that the screen is a Cinecrystal LED backlit, TFT LCD, tempered glass with fingerprint resistant coating.
I think it's the Iconia double screen laptop that has the gorilla glass.

Interesting, that's been updated since I last looked, also odd that acer wouldn't confirm that when I asked them.

def nice if so. Would like to know for sure so if or if not to get screen protector.
True story. Wrote Acer 4 separate times thus 4 different people vs. followups regarding the type of RAM in the A500. Terra 250 ventana is supposed to support DDR2 667, but many blogs and sites with FCC sourced specs say DDR3 so I wanted to confirm.
3 say DDR3, 1 says DDR2. What shall I believe?

The answer is *NO*.
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/full-products-list
Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus does not have Gorilla Glass. Full list above.
DISCLAIMER: Next statement is not my own research, just copied from another post.
Gorilla Glass was trademarked in 2008 for Corning's alkali aluminosilicate glass, their patent for such glass ran out some 20 years ago, anyone can make as much alkali aluminosilicate glass as they want without having to pay Corning for a name, Apple uses alkali aluminosilicate glass in the iPhone not Gorilla Glass. Using a non-name version isn't what makes them fail drop tests, since alkali aluminosilicate glass isn't shatterproof by whatever you call it but due to the design of the phone itself, alkali aluminosilicate glass is just more scratch resistant and a bit more bendable.
Also note that Corning has collaboration with Samsung for manufacturing of glass:

Right. But question remains why would Samsung not mention it if it's there? Samsung mentioned previously when they used Gorilla glass in their devices.
I'm really curious if the GNote has Gorilla Glass, I wanted it to be my first device that I didn't have to apply a screen protector to! Strange how there's no official word from Samsung to confirm whether GGlass is included or not.
So, regardless of gorilla glass, is anyone using a screen protector?

Personally I dislike screen protectors. One thing that's really good about the Note screen is how it just does not pick up finger marks. It's amazingly resistant to prints. Better than any device I've used in the past. Maybe if you text after munching through a KFC family bucket it might show something... I doubt if a screen protector would have as a good a resistance. My preference is to just use the official flip cover.

I don't anticipate any differences to other screens with fortified glass and won't be using a screen protector.

sorry if you interpreted my response as an insult, it wasnt meant like that.
but basically, from my experience with cars and computer parts... who cares what branding it has? who cares if its branded as gorilla glass or branded as hardened glass? if its still tough enough to be scratch resistant and still does the job, then does it really matter whether its branded or not?
my galaxy note screen has no scratches on it. i kept it in the same pocket as my keys as well until i got my flip cover a week ago. still no scratches. this was before my screen protectors arrived.
The scratches are tiny but clearly visible. Considering I haven't haven't abused it all and my old inspire 4g had no scratches and was abused I think this glass isn't as good and isn't gorilla at all.

There is a fundamental difference between 'scratch proof' and 'scratch immune'
As posted by few others
1. Gorilla Glass can get scratches
2. Corning's patent ran out on gorilla glass quite some time ago and just about anyone capable of making one can make one
3. Corning and Samsung has a joint venture together that specializes this under scp.samsung.com and may not be using "Gorilla Glass" label

The Samsung Focus Flash JUST came out and it's on there.
But whatever. Gorilla Glass isn't the end all be all. A grain of sand and it scratches like any 'ol screen.
Just be careful and your screen should be good, regardless of what type it is.

The Samsung Galaxy note HAS GORILLA GLASS

This has been confirmed by dozens of XDA members who have gone above and beyond to confirm that it is indeed Gorilla Glass in the Note.
Ever since the release date, the feud over Gorilla Glass began and it ended a week later. Dozens of members contacted Corning and they said that many devices with gorilla glass are not shown in their list.
®That was for all you going "CORNING SAYZ DA NOTE HAZ NO GORILLA GLAZS"
I have read numerous threads where users have contacted Samsung and have reached the conclusion that it is indeed gorilla glass in our notes. On pretty much all the tech sites, they all list the Note as having Gorilla Glass.
Gorilla glass is Scratch-"resistant" not Scratch "proof" and even if it was Scratch proof, it would not be impervious to everything.
Gorilla Glass isn't magic, it is Glass and like any other Glass, sand can scratch it because Glass is just super heated sand.
Now, to those saying "GORILLA GLAZS IS DESIGNED TO B3 scrATCH PROOF"
Gorilla glass was created in the hopes of reducing shock from falls, to preserve the glass, while also giving adequate scratch resistance.
Hopefully, this will encourage people to spend the $20 on a decent screen protector to protect the $260 screen+ digitizer on their Note.

1. Gorilla Glass isn't scratch proof (SGSII has 0 scratches while captivate has a few)
2. Samsung and Corning has a partnership (joint company) and may not be using the gorilla glass name. (http://www.scp.samsung.com/)

Why didn't you use the other 100 threads
GALAXY NOTE

It looks like they may be using the lotus glass instead of gorilla glass
http://www.androidauthority.com/corning-unveils-lotus-glass-29195/
Isn't this a good thing since lotus glass has much tighter property and better display features than gorilla?

I own 2 other devices with Corning Gorilla Glass; an Acer W500, my Galaxy S2.
I honestly don't think you know what Gorilla Glass is. Google it.

Gorilla Glass isn't magic, it is Glass and like any other Glass, sand can scratch it because Glass is just super heated sand.
Gorilla glass was created in the hopes of reducing shock from falls, to preserve the glass, while also giving adequate scratch resistance.

Right! let me enlighten you a little, gorilla glass was never designed to reduce shock from fall, hence if u drop you phone sideways it will crack
gorilla glass isn't made just from sand like other glass, it has aluminium oxide in it (you know.. the stuff sapphires and rubies are made of)
pfft!
So it's magic?

I know it is not magic when seeing the scratchS on my GNote.
Please stop it with the Gorillas will ya. All this Gorilla talk is making me loopy.
Jesus, therz some stubbornly persistent ppl.
Corning had a patent for making GORILLA GLASS. It doesn't anymore. Once the patent expires, big companies usually start manufacturing their own version of the ex-patented product. it's cheaper and most of the times better, cuz it fits their exact needs. Moreover, sammy and corning play together for quite a while now.
So, NO, the Note doesn't have GORILLA glass but it does have a glass that is the same or better.
chrz and let's hope for no more threads on that sbj. starts to feel like a teen-problem forum here
Maybe the mods can create a new sub-forum dedicated to debating the glass used in the Note. That way we can talk about glass all day long without the clutter of less important topics related to using the phone.

lol. couldn't agree more.
On the Samsung Mobile Singapore facebook page, Samsung confirms that the Note has Gorilla Glass. This is the second time I've seen them say it!

Wow, thanks for that!
Now it's decided.
(Uh, do you think i'm being premature?)
I got proof!
I asked Samsung myself and they replyed with the answere: Yes, the galaxy note do have Corning´s gorilla glas. We´re sorry for not making this clear.
So there you have it!
Damn! I just dropped my Note on the street while walking.
5 foot drop. Scratches on the corners. Part of the plastic rim around one of the edges of the glass jumped away. Glass fortunately still fully intact. No scratches.
Phone operating as before.
Really bummed, but could've been much much worse.

I dropped it on the concrete floor 5 times now, once from a height of 1,5 m - no damage what so ever. Thank-you Samsung for choosing Gorilla Glass.
I dropped mine ~4ft onto concrete when getting out of my truck and it's practically undamaged. The plastic edge around the screen is scuffed on two corners (which I'll buff out at some point) but the screen is spotless, despite having landed face down. I've enjoyed over 2 months now of a slim, sexy, clear, case-free and screen protector-free phone.

After all the stories of scratched screens, I went ahead and got an SGP oleophobic screen protector for mine. While scratch protection may not be completely necessary, I will say that smudges are significantly reduced relative to my Galaxy Tab 10.1 with no SP. I'm actually sold on them after using this one.
