Returning inspire getting atrix - Atrix 4G General

I decided after playing around with the inspire that I'm gonna return it on Tuesday and move up to the atrix. Anyone else doing this? Root has been obtained for inspire but its pretty complicated for a noob like me.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Same here. I really liked the Inspire, think I'll like the Atrix more.

I'm also exchanging my Inspire for the Atrix. While I love the screen, I found the phone itself to be too large for my tastes.

It's likely that root on the Atrix, if it is achieved, will be far more difficult than the Inspire. The Inspire is just an AT&T version of the Desire HD which has been available for some time and is well understood. Being a "newb" and not understanding how to use a phone or do certain things is not a good reason to return one for another phone that will be as or even more complicated...

I already returned my inspire. I liked it but the battery issue was a deal breaker for me. I want a phone that at least will give me 8 hours of battery time, the inspire died in my pocket before lunch one day.

Same here. The battery issue and slow CPU.
The atrix is way better than inspire.

I am all in for the Atrix, but you would be hard pressed to find a phone other then the Atrix, right now that keeps up with the Inspire's CPU scores.. Not Dual-Core, but not slow.

Lol I know being a noob isn't a good reason. Yeah battery does suck though, sound sucks, led notification works half the time, and I'm getting some crappy yellowish tints on a lot of my pictures. In willing to take a $35 hit on restocking fee, plus extra $100 that atrix cost for the extra processor, ffc, and hdmi out.

For quadrant I was getting 1700, for smart bench....can't remember scores but it was low...I remember seeing atrix pulling 2800 quadrant in a video from ces. 1100 difference is huge, my aria running cm 6.1.1 oc'd to 825 got 1102
Edit: ran smartbench because I was curious..got 861 productivity, 1273 games index...yeah reallllly low scores...I think quadrant favors snapdragon

I bought my inspire for $99 4 days ago and ordered the atrix on the same account same number for $199.00 I will hold on to both and see which one is better. Right now the inspire is flawless and the atrix will have to do something really special to win this fight.

How did you do that using the same line?? If it works i would definitely do the same!!

I am just wondering. Does a Dual core phone with 1GB RAM (not sure how much is usable) make so much difference in usage as compared to Inspire with 768MB RAM and 1 Ghz processor?
It's not like we have to use processor intensive apps like "matlab" or something

I am getting atrix as well and I am on inspire right now. yes it is a slower cpu then the one in atrix, but does it feel slow? inspire feels like the fastest android phone I have ever used up to this point. I really dont think it is atrix will feel any faster just because it has faster hardware. May be it will handle things better in the future. For now it has been great.

Inspire's already old tech. Good choice on returning it.

You got to admit... The inspire is built well. Man, that thing is a nice slab of metal! I would say it's the best built phone I've ever used. I too will be returning for the atrix (shipped tomorrow to my local at&t store) just for the battery life alone as the inspire's battery is real bad... My concern is the built QLT of the atrix. All cheap feeling plastic? Weird, as MOTO usually makes a solid feeling device... hmmm

I got the Inspire last week. Best thing about Inspire is Sense IMHO. It has the best email, phone and calendar software of any devce I know. BUT I think the camera, screen, battery and sound are all inferior (I also have a CaPTIVATE that has a perfect custom ROM so everything works). I will also give the Atrix a go and then decide which to keep.

Well... yes, depending on what you're doing. The dual core processor os going to let you do things faster, and help keep the phone from slowing down when running cpu intensive apps like games and sstuff.
The ram will help keep thongs open; with 512 I.can have a browser and maybe aan app pr two, but open a game then switch to the browser, and the game resets because android tries to run it all in the background.
More RAM will allow more things to stay open in memory along with allowing a smoother overall experience.
Captivate 2.2.1 Paragon

do you have to pay in order to return the phone? and/or is there a fee to exchanging it to an atrix?

Saying goodbye

I realize this is not the best of places to post this, but the people who read this sub-forum regularly are the people it was meant for...
After a lot of thinking, I have returned my Atrix.
I know it is a powerful phone, but I'd rather have a slightly less powerful phone that I have complete control over, than have the most awesome god phone in the world that will only do 1/3 of what its actually capable of.
That said, I exchanged the Atrix for the HTC Insprie 4G. I know its just a Desire HD that has 750MB of ram and a single core CPU (overclockable to 1.7Ghz) but there is something that feels comforting to have a HTC device back.
What can I say? I like to be able to make Nandroid backups, I like to be able to run the latest version of Android, I like to be able to tether without tricks and apps, I like the freedom.
Maybe one day if the Atrix gets fully unlocked, I'll be back, but I'm afraid that with all the other dual core phones that are on the horizon (Samsung Galaxy SII, for example) the Atrix may get left in the dust.
Good Luck Guys,
Mb
I did the opposite switched out the Inspire 4g for an Atrix, the Inspire 4g battery was simply awful putting a 1230mah battery in it was what killed it for me

I am on the verge of doing the same, OP.
But this should probably go into the general section, not be in the dev section.
Good luck man! I really don't understand most of your reasons tho...The battery on the Atrix is better, the dual core CPU at stock clocks still beat the best OCed Inspire, Atrix has more ram, storage, you really don't need to make a nandrioid backup if your not swapping roms/kernels just use TBU for apps. The only valid reason I see is it can run CM7, which I understand. Other than that I think everything is better about the Atrix. But that's just my .02 bro I hope you enjoy it.

I am right behind the OP but I will just use my iphone until something better comes along. Thought about getting the Inspire4g but I feel like It doesnt make sense with the introduction of dual core processors this year. There are more valid reasons than just CM7 to move to an open HTC device. A open (up to date) HTC device beats a locked down Moto device anyday! Its hard to argue that if you tried. If you bought the Atrix for it specs then you have what you want, but if you bought the Atrix for customization then I agree with the OP. Youre only getting 1/3 of the capabilities.

My battery has been fine. I listen to 3-4 hrs of music and use the phone for browsing internet and txting. I can go all day with no issues. This is at 1.8 ghz with ondemand scaling. I set setcpu to use 300 mhz to 700 mhz when the screen is off. We have a few artix's at work and some users are having battery issues and cant get through the day without charging. I didn't have any issues with my battery when I had my atrix.

The inspire has better gpu scores then the atrix and can register more then two touch inputs where the atrix only registers two. I see no reason why it cant. It is not built just for the tegra 2. Its just being released first on tegra zone.
Moved to general as not android development
They are both great phones and I have both, however some of my associates in my area, Dallas, that have used a great variety of non ATT sold phones, have decided to sell/trade their Atrix and get a inspire instead. I have made a decent amount money during straight trades for people who want to trade their atrix for an inspire, and then reselling the atrix on ebay. If I was one of those people that bought the Atrix through contract and wanted to switch, I would sell it on craigslist or ebay and buy an Inspire. You still should have a little $ left over. But I believe the Atrix is a better long term phone because of its specs

i agree with OP. i was excited to head back home to my n1.
att emailed me a survey/questionnaire about why i returned the device... and they had selections for me to choose which seemed suspiciously in line with why i actually returned it. i fear for att/moto that they know they dropped the ball on a few aspects of the atrix and anticipated returns based on those inadequacies.

That is because your benchmark tools do not support the dual core yet. The Atrix has SMP enable by the kernel so it is a matter of getting applications that can support it. Atrix is doing 35-38 on linpack with a single core support, can you imagine what is going to do with dual core and then with overclocked.

What were the selections they listed?

So who is going to check out the Samsung Infuse?

I will. I miss a big screen....
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I'll check it out, that big screen is great and I haven't found a use for having a Tegra 2 (not into gaming on the phone, I'll use a tablet/pc/console for that). Side-loading is enabled by default, so it will probably have true custom roms/kernels too (I'm guessing the bootloader will not be locked down).
I'm going to have a look at it. I agree about not really using tegra fully (yet). How much RAM does Infuse have?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Meh....im not that impressed honestly. 4.5" is too big for a phone screen...way too big.
I'm not as interested in the Infuse as I think I will be in the Galaxy S II. I am hoping that it isn't far behind in coming to AT&T. I will be due for another upgrade in July, so I will have to see how it holds up to the Atrix.
Looking at the specs it just seems like a big Captivate that runs a little faster with a bigger brighter screen. It's an improvement but not a generation jump (like say the Atrix, Sensation or Galaxy II).
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
i am interested only in its category 14 theoretical 21 Mbs download speeds. compare that to the Atrix which is only cat 10 and at max theoretical top out at only 14.4 Mbs. In real world usage, in areas where i get full HSPA bars, I never get pass 2.5Mbs so pretty disappointment.
I just want a decent phone that has a front camera and dual core. I wanna try this phone out but I somehow am taking a step back expecially since the SGS2 just passed FCC.
Sent from my X10i TripNMiUI using XDA App
It's sort of a step back when compared to the Atrix, but the Atrix has given me some issues that I never had with the Captivate, plus the cameras on the Infuse are much better!! I just hope the Infuse's battery compares to the Atrix's and that the GPS turns out great!
i initially thought it would be dual core and i was tempted
later found out its only a single
no thanks

I love the Artix's 16GB internal memory, 1GB RAM, and 1930 mAh battery. If the Infuse came with that, it would be a serious contender. Still don't know how that huge screen won't kill the battery in an hour.
1500mah battery with a 4.5" SAMOLED+? No thanks, SAMOLED+ uses the crap out of the battery, so the life on this one will be less than adequate. Going to keep my atrix.

This review is not making me wish I had waited. Look at that less-than epic benchmark score...not to mention the battery consumption is not stellar. Lots of red flags on that thing for me, and it's $100 more than the Atrix. Meh.
It will probably kill inspire sales in about 5 minutes. It seems to be better in about every way.

I'm leaving T-Mobile and my beloved HD2 and switching to AT&T and getting the Infuse.
Costco has it on sale for $169.99 starting on May 12th!
The specs are good enough for me, 1.2GHz Processor, 16gb internal, S-AMOLED Plus display, HSPA+ (21mbps), HDMI via MHL, 1750 mAh battery,
Dual-core devices have yet to amaze me. I used my HD2 with CM7 for awhile and was able to run many of the programs/games like many of the recent devices.
And its the first AT&T android device that allows side-loading of apps without the need for a root. So I can just take all my apk's that I have on my 16GB microSD from my HD2 and install away!

Battery is far from better, this guy is on crack.
1650 mah on GS2 to 1930 mah on atrix.
I like the higher resolution screen on the atrix. The atrix also has 1080p play, not recording yet(unless you want to mod).
The atrix is only on 2.2.2 right now, but we'll be receiving a 2.3.3 update in the next month or two. (Correction 2.3.4)
I couldn't be more happy with my atrix, I like the fact that I can do whatever I want for the entire day and never run out of battery. I also like the fact that the resolution of the phone is so high (960x580 or something like that?). I couldn't stand looking at pixels all day with a 800x480 screen.
The simple fact that I know I can watch videos and play games on my phone for the entire day without worrying about the battery is reason enough for me to keep it. Also the fact that we're getting the 2.3.4 update soon is good enough for me to not jump ship.
Both phones are great but the battery life the atrix offers, the resolution of the screen, and the tegra2 processor are all keepers for me.
Enjoy your phone! Either choice is good.
Thanks for the reply Magnetox...
I was hoping for a response along those lines, I myself was very hesitant to do the swap as I genuinely like the Atrix and have had many android phones to know and appreciate how good the battery is on the Atrix.
The reason I made the post was because alot of people told me to do the swap but deep down I was very hesitant as having had the nexus s and galaxy s I know about the battery life, as far as the Super Amoled display is concerned I think it's the biggest over hyped screen in the world.... Yes the blacks are great but the other colours are so far from natural it makes everything look cartoony.
Once again big thanks to Magnetox.... I think I'll stick with the Atrix and wait for 2.3.4 as for everyone recommending the SGS2 I'll let you be the sheep that follow and make a big mistake.
Is something wrong with his Galaxy S II? I don't see why he would want to do this swap.
The Atrix is good, but the S II is perhaps the best phone on the market.
No it's brand new in the box.
But he likes the docks and webtop that the Atrix has.
What makes the SGS2 the best phone on the market?
Here is a pretty good break down between the 2:

The dual core Exynos processor is extremely fast- there's no lag at all. Touchwiz is ok, the main thing is it doesnt cause the phone to lag.

This is not an over-exaggeration. The vibrancy of the colors on the display is amazing. I have a Captivate and will probably get an Atrix in the next two weeks (I just upgraded 11 days ago), but I know I will miss the hell out of this screen. The minute AT&T's GSII is released, the Atrix will most likely be sold.

Please, look in there. I'm sure you'll find your answers.
As much as I love my Atrix, I'd say swap right away!
Isn't the SGS2 about $700 USD?
If so, then sell the SGS2 for a profit and get a new Atrix once more and save some money in the process.

Glad to help out.
Both are great phones, I just prefer the atrix.
Higher res + better battery + tegra 2 games = better phone
(at least in my opinion)
Cheers! You'll enjoy either of them.
EDIT: Once the bootloader gets unlocked by motorola (they said they would), or once it gets cracked or bypassed, this phone will be even better than it is now! It is much more futureproof IMO than the GS2
Atrix Specs: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Motorola-ATRIX-4G_id4982
SGS2 Specs: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II_id5106
People who say the SGS2 has horrible battery life are wrong.
SGS2 Vs Optimus 2X (Tegra 2 with same resolution as SGS2) benchmarks:
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...s---guess-who-scored-3732-on-Quadrant_id18505
SGS2 wins Quadrant, smartbench 2011, nenamark1.
They tie on the browser mark, each winning 1 of the 2 runs.
SGS2 full review: http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-Review_id2728
Atrix full review: http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Motorola-ATRIX-4G-Review_id2665
Again, the battery life is virtually identical. The atrix has a bigger default battery, but the SGS2 is more efficient. SGS2 clocks down to 200mhz when turned off whereas the Atrix only clocks down to 400mhz in my experience.
Gingerbread has no dual-core enhancements, so the Atrix will only see a small bump in benchmark scores from updating, but nothing to bring it over the SGS2.

Doesnt the optimus 2x only have 512 mb of ram? And isn't it running froyo 2.2? Not a fair comparison.
Gingerbread may not have dual core enhancements... but it most definitely makes the phone faster. Updated drivers, new kernels, improved efficiency.
Benchmarks have been done on the gingerbread atrix and it showed around 10-20% improvement in FPS. Im assuming there's not so much motoblur to slow it down.
The drivers are obviously much more optimized for the atrix in gingerbread. Here's the link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhdEeu3WUXA
51 FPS on nenamark. Stock clock. Currently the atrix does 43 fps. Correct me if I'm wrong but thats 20% increase in FPS. That means this phone is going to be flaming fast in gingerbread once the bugs are worked out.
Also, the battery life IS NOT IDENTICAL.
The atrix clocks down to 216 mhz. Stop spreading false information. The atrix has better battery life. Period.
The fact that the SGS2 only has 4 gpu cores, and the atrix has 8, is a huge difference.
Once overclocking kernels are available the atrix can stably sit at 1.2 ghz IM SURE, and it has the battery life to do so. And it will have 8 cores @ that 1.2 ghz.
The atrix is more futureproof IMO.
That's why I'm sticking with it.

Would jumping to the Sensation be a bad move?

So I do like my Atrix but I have the chance to do a straight trade for a Sensation.
I love Sense and would like a better camera.
Atrix does have 16gb vs the Sensation and its 8gb card, but I hardly have any space used up on mine. Its just photos and apps that are taking space pretty much - maybe 4 songs.
I dont use webtop. I like knowing the Atrix has the HDMI out and for the sensation - it has the option to do it but you need to buy the adapter cable. As much as I like the thought of that feature, I havent even used it yet lol.
I knwo the battery life on the Atrix is obviously better. I would buy a spare battery for the Sensation though and just keep it in my wallet just in case, like I used to do with my Motorola Milestone. The battery isnt very big.
Both have the same resolution and qhd.
The ROM support on the Atrix is lacking, and it looks very populated on the Sensation.
My girlfriend has the Desire which I have ROM'ed for her and its ROM support is very active and up to date for a phone of that age - I can expect the same for the Sensation?
Anything about the Atrix that is worth keeping over the Sensation?
Anything about the Sensation that should warrant the trade to it?
Thanks guys
Tried my friend's Sensation out for a day and he tried my Atrix out for the same day.
The Sensation was slightly laggy, even for such a powerful processor (or was i just used to the smoothness of the Atrix?) camera was awesome and overall the phone is pretty damn good! However, he got it back with a full battery (had to charge it overnight or else it would die on me) whereas when he gave my Atrix back, it was still running on the charge from a day ago, after his heavy use too (albeit, it was nearly dead). If i was you, i'd stay with the Atrix, but at the end of the day, it's up to you.
Only if you don't mind losing battery life...

Was your friend's Sensation running a custom ROM?
I would run ARHD on it and have Setcpu underclocking when needed as well. That ROM is said to have better battery life.
But as far as battery goes , Like I said I would just buy a spare and keep it with me. I did that with my Milestone and it wasnt much of a hassle.
And as far as the lag goes, there are TONS of animations in Sense, which I love the look of. If I wanted a period of time with no sense and more smooth performance, I would just throw on Go Launcher as my launcher, like I am with the Atrix
Apart from the battery life though, any other reason of sticking to the Atrix?

AFAIK it was all stock, not even rooted. We just like to swap our devices every once in a while (done the same with game consoles). I'm not saying it's a bad device though
If your on AT&T your not going to get anything above 3g on the phone most likely will be stuck in Edge. The drop in the phone storage and the battery also not using Tegra 2 CPU which according to some websites and reviews I have seen say that the Qualcomm is about 10-15% slower than the tegra 2.

yea i dont see that as a good idea as your buddy who gets the atrix will be the clear winner in that trade!

double posted, same reply as above, sorry!
I am in Canada, so not on AT&T
How would he be the clear winner?
As far as processor speed..
I'm sure those websites reviewed it as stock though, and not using an optimized ROM.
The Atrix is much faster using a ROM vs stock as well.
We all have difference opinions. Some may love it but some may not. Try testing out at places or with a friend and get the feel for it. Dev here are not very active just yet but in mean time they will.

I used to have an atrix and personally.. trading it for a sensation was the best move ever. However, I had to add on a bit of cash
I hate how the atrix recognizes the internal as an "sd card" and my other reasons was because Sense>Motoblur (in my opinion!) and I liked the looks of the sensation more + on top of that, (correct me if I'm wrong) the development in atrix forums seemed to slow down.. and on the other hand, sensations dev is still going strong! I also think that the back cover is 100x better - but, there's also flaws with the sensation cover. Can't say it's perfect
Also everyone complaining about battery life.. my sensation was unplugged 10pm last night, went to bed, woke up with 90% remaining, went to work! Got home it's now 3pm and I'm at 55% (I had a ~30 minute call and lots of texts as well as gmail syncing 2 accounts/facebook/twitter) HOWEVER I'm using a different battery. Look up "Anker". This thing is a beast! Surprisingly, it's lasting very well. I wouldn't say the battery is an issue. With this 55% it will definitely last me until tonight!
Just my two cents! I'm also in canada as well and signal/speed isn't an issue either.
You seem to be defending the sensation a lot as if you want it, its your choice, so just go with whatever you want, everyone has their own opinions.

Well, if he defends it and everyone elses opinions/arguments are better than his, then the atrix will be the clear winner! and agreed with the opinions part!
I am not "defending" the sensation, since I dont even have it; its just that people are saying the Atrix is better but their arguments dont really justify it to the extent of them defending the Atrix lol
Of course we all have different opinions. I think one of the first things I said in the initial post was that I love my Atrix

i would stick on the Atrix bandwagon for a little while longer, we're about to get nightlies on CM7 which means all our devs will be able to work on their own individual projects again. the only reason our development slowed down was because ibproud organized most of the Atrix devs into a group to port CM7 for us; now that it's almost done, people will start building their own ROMs and hacks.
it may take a month or two more, but it'll most definitely be worth the wait
Very interesting question.
Here's how I weigh everything up.
Atrix:
- Faster processor (despite being 1Ghz vs 1.2Ghz)
- Better GPU (more effecient, less heat and THD games)
- Much brighter display
- More RAM
- Much better battery
- Better Touchscreen (Sensation has issues)
- No death grip issues
- Webtop and fingerprint scanner
Sensation:
- Better build quality
- Sharper display (RGB stripe vs PenTile)
- Brand recognition
- Better community
- Much better camera
So it's really up to you with what you prioritize.
OMG totally trade for the sensation I heard the next ROM will support quad core.

I wouldn't say that the Geforce ULP is betfer than the Adreno 220 GPU. Just look at the benchmark results on this page: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4686/samsung-galaxy-s-2-international-review-the-best-redefined/17 (don't forget the qHD resolution on all Adreno 220 phones either). Also the processor of the Atrix is not faster; it handles flash better because of software reasons, but that 0,2GHz difference is visible in Linpack, so I guess custom ROMs would unleash that power with software optimizations. Also something you left out is the lack of NEON support in the Atrix (no .mkv playback or high profile h.264).
I don't want to say that the Atrix is not a great phone - I had it for a while, but then sold it for an SGSII (great decision) - but the Sensation is just better imo.

Evo Design 4G

I'm wondering is it actually better than the og Evo?
8mp vs 5 MP camera
1ghz vs 1.2 ghz processeor
Kickstand vs no kickstand (I know not really a big deal)
4.3 in screen vs 4 in screen
Battery...to be continued
Massive dev support vs ??
Domestic radio vs world phone**
(My favorite improvement)
What u think? Is it even better than the 3D? Does the lack of dual core really make much of a difference

for me the absence dual core really makes a difference.
rdia am grateful to for giving me this forum stated he is very good and has lots of variety.
Seems like a decent offering with a solid price point for those not wanting some cutting edge specs. But I don't know if I'd go from a 4G to this, especially locking in for 2 years.
In hindsight I prediro a specification point.

i got my evo 4g on release day, had it for about 9 months and then bought a shift. i then switched to us cellular 3 weeks ago, had a motorola electrify (photon) and swapped it for the hero-s which is the same as the evo design minus the wimax radio and world capabilities. figured i'd post my thoughts on it here since there's no forum for the hero-s.
the camera is absolutely fantastic. i'm assuming the design will have the same one. it's got a f2.2 lens, so it's amazing in low light. i use my camera a LOT and that was a big downside to the electrify for me.
the cpu is a 2nd generation snapdragon, so it's more than just a 200mhz speed bump. it's quite a bit faster. it also has an adreno 205 vs. the 200 as the gpu, which is a significant upgrade. i honestly don't notice much of a difference between my hero-s and the electrify i had. i don't play many cpu/ gpu intensive games, but it's run everything i've thrown at it with ease. it's not a top of the line multi-core speed demon, but i really don't need that. it's fast, everything runs smooth, and that's all i need/ want.
no kickstand, but not really needed. the 4" qhd screen is probably 90% of the reason i went with this phone. the screen looks great, i really like the higher resolution, and it's just so much easier for me to hold. i actually have pretty big hands, but the evo 4g and electrify are just awkward for me to hold. i sold my evo 4g and got a shift because of this, and traded my electrify for the hero-s for the same reason. this should be a great choice for people who don't want a bigger screen.
battery life seems decent. i can make it through the day with moderate use. if i'm driving i'll plug it in if i'm using nav/ maps, but overall it's ok. probably a bit better than my shift and it seems better than my evo 4g from what i can remember of it.
as for massive dev support... oh god i hope there's some action with this phone on sprint, there's not much going on with it on the USC side (at least not yet). i'd think it'll get rooted/ s-off somewhat quickly, but who knows. this thing would scream with cm7 on it, and i'm thinking it'll run ICS just fine.
there's no world phone capabilities on my hero-s, so i can't comment on that. it seems like that would be a very nice feature for people who need it though.
overall, i love this thing. it's very thin, i love the aluminium unibody, the button placement is great, it's very zippy, the screen resolution and size are perfect for me, and the camera is fantastic. i never thought i'd say this, but i actually kind of *like* sense 3.0 too. i think it's a great phone if you don't need the latest and greatest, and if you want a screen that's between 3.5" and 4.3", this might be what you're looking for. hope this helps, and if anyone has any questions about the phone i'll answer if i can!

You may be able to since the evo has been discontinued idk if this means anything but a couple years ago I broke my sidekick and called to get it replaced with T-Mobile but they said it is discontinued so they gave me a g1 of course that was when it first came out but like I said that was tmobile who knows what sprint will do

Yeah, I wouldn't complain.
viva la MIUI
It has the smaller 45nm scorpion core which generates less heat and uses less power, so that's a plus, and I believe clock for clock the Scorpion core is faster than the original Snapdragon 65nm core. Then there's the Adreno 205 as far as visually demanding apps goes.

After reading that, I'm even more excited for Sunday!
pretty sure you'll love it- it's a damned nice little phone. my wife's swapping out her HTC merge (USCC's version of the evo shift) for a hero-s today since she liked mine so much and kept stealing it from me!
i made a mistake in my previous post, the hero-s *does* have GSM/ global roaming capabilities, so it really is very close to the evo design 4g then. it just doesn't have the wimax radio... so i'm hoping hoping hoping that any roms and root methods for the design will also work on the hero-s (like the photon stuff works on the electrify on USCC).
HTC Evo Design longer than Hero S??
Just read dimensions on Evo design 4g - and it seems it is longer (4.8 vs 4.5 inches) than the Hero S? Anyone have idea why as it looks like the same phone?
Is this phone worth a 2-year contract or would I be better off adding $50 or so dollars and buying a used Evo while I wait for the Prime?
