they always release the source after 30 days or less....

I'm excited to see what our wonderful devs will cook up for us here in the coming weeks/months. Voodoo sound kernel with voodoo color and ext4 partition conversion would be nice.

They have 60 days, and people were assuming that sammy would wait the entire time allowed under the Android license.

But if you look at their tack record, they don't do that, they don't wait 60 days as other companies do.

Codeworkx:
"We've nothing done for captivate except button mapping.
If someone wants to develop for captivate, fork our stuff, modify it and send pull requests.
We don't know which accelerometer sensor is used on captivate.
If it's the same as at i9000, simply set the correct flags at aries_captivate_defconfig (compare with galaxys).
This thread is a "work in progress"-thread for i9000 to provide you with some infos.
It's not meant for "lol, it's not running on captivate, PLX PLX PLX HELP"."
There is no nightly, we've all been compiling it ourselves.
Ya is there an actually nightly build for the i9000 yet?

Yes, but its internal. I'm going to start making an unofficial nightly soon. I'm also starting to work on the Captivate, but I'm not initiated as a cm dev, so we'll see how that works out... XD

There won't be one until i9000 gets one. Codeworkx/coolya refuse to release the rom until it's stable, and trust me, it's not stable yet. If you want to play with it, by all means, build it from source, but it's not ready for release yet.

All the devs here do that by asking for donations for ROMs based on leaked/unreleased firmware. The manufacturers/carriers/google work on this tirelessly for months to provide it as a free update, while devs here get paid by remixing leaks of their work. It's apples and oranges as far as I'm concerned.

SGH-T959 Vibrant Froyo Source

Looks like Samsung released source for the Vibrant
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959361
Does this help us at all?
Probably wont take much to boot it on our captivates. I've ran 2 vibrant roms on my cappy without having to modify them..... though I did have to switch out one modem because I only got 2g with one of the vibrant modems.

Appears they went ahead and released source for the Epic too
Im not a dev by any means, but I would assume that the source code and kernal should be set uppretty similar for our Captivates (minus the parts that refer to look for a CDMA radio instead of GSM) on 2.2 and hopefully the good devs here will be able to rip out the good stuff and incorporate into their own roms.
Go get 'em devs!
i896 source is available too. But no one wants it =.=
^ i guess when it come to kernel sources beggars can be choosers. Rogers 2.2 sources have been out a while and i can only think of one person taking advantage of them for a Froyo AOSP Rom.
Whats wrong with the rogers sources?
Why use source from a different phone?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all manufacturers are bound by the GPL license of the Linux-derived kernel to publish the source code every time they release a new kernel to the public (i.e., their users). In practice, this means they will publish a new kernel source code with each new phone and each new version of Android (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc.). Also, if there are any critical updates that they have to apply to the kernel, they will publish that too, but such situations aren't that common. Most of the big manufacturers will publish their source code within a week of releasing their latest Android upgrade or phone.

Correct me if I'm wrong as well, but, at 125MB, this seems like more than kernel source code. The kernel patches are GPL'd, but the rest of Android is released by Google under the Apache License, meaning (as we've seen) manufacturers don't have to release any source code of customizations like blur, or sense. (see wikipedia for android, under licensing -- I had a link here, but I'm not allowed to post it until I reach 8 posts)
And if this is a 125mb kernel source download, just ignore this post...
Edit: After taking a look inside, there's both kernel source and some platform source code (I'm seeing things like webkit, bluetooth, email...), so at least some of this looks to be optionally-released stuff.

According to the GPL, the source is to be released at the same time as the executable. HTC *loves* to illegally delay things.

I say a BIG HELL YEAH to this
If I had a facebook account I would do that. Looking at their wall it doesn't seem too many people are taking the advice though.
I thought the deadline for releasing source code was something like within 90 days of software release? Am I wrong?
I never understood the need for delay; theoretically aren't they supposed to release the same exact code that they used to compile whatever it was they released in the first place? HTC or any other manufacturer shouldn't need any time to modify it or anything, right?
They do not have to change anything as far as I understand. But for some reason they don't care to share they're keeping the Shift Source Code kernel a little longer. Hell they already released the EVO3D code. Just don't get it.
All right just posted on they're wall on FB! C'mon everyone help out!

From what I have seen, there is no provision in the GPLv2 terms for any "delay".

There's a reason I asked for an official source ... I read an article yesterday that said Obama was pregnant with Palin's love child, but I haven't seen anything posted on rumors.gov...
On a more serious note, CM numbering has not matched Android versioning directly, but rather has been incremental, which is why I say that there's a chance the ICS version could be CM8, since a honeycomb version doesn't and won't exist.
