Sonys NGP is quad core!!! With android!!!! - Vibrant General

Search it on google. It's even on the official ps site. It futures a quad core arm cortex a9 and quad core sgx543). Jawsdroping right there. Not only that but also a 5 inch oled screen ( better than super anoles) with a resolution as high as the iphones. And the best part, call of duty and other console high end titles. That's enough to make me sell my galaxy s, though I won't cuz I'm loyal. So what do u think about the Orion chip holding out against this beast.

OMG...thats amazing specs right there...wish it were put in a phone tho

now THIS is something worth buying as a phone!!!!!
http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/xperia-play-final-hardware-hands-on/

The Xperia Play runs Android, not the NGP.
The NGP and the Play have very different specs. I wouldn't recommend selling your Galaxy S for an NGP, cause its not a phone (though it may have skype) .
Either way the NGP is drool worthy, can't wait to see what game devs can do with that hardware. Uncharted looks incredible on it, could be easily confused with its PS3 counterpart.

Smartphones will be on par with it by the end of this year or early next year. The Galaxy S2 already has a quad core GPU (Mali 400) and quad core CPUs (Tegra 3) are supposed to be coming at the end of this year.
Personally, my next upgrade would either be the SGS 2 or the Optimus 3D even though Android apps/games will probably not need that much power anytime soon.
Also, the NGP is not a phone (doesn't even run Android) so I don't know why you would sell your Galaxy S for it.

Yes, he is right, while the "CPU" is still just a dual-core, the "GPU" is a quad-core, so in theory the SGS 2 GPU should beat the tegra 2 once samsung gets out of its beta software for the SGS 2

Desire HD2 specs leaked

If this is true it's a bit of a kick in the balls to you HD owners...
http://pocketnow.com/android/galaxy-s-2-desire-hd2-desire-2-wildfire-2-full-specs-leaked
8GB internal memory
960x540 resolution
1.2GHz dual core 8260 Snapdragon processor
Mobile technology is always moving forward at an incredible rate. That's why you should always opt for 12 month contacts or buy SIM free keep for a year, sell & upgrade.
These specs look pretty good for the DHD2.
I agree, but if you've just upgraded in the last few weeks this is going to hurt...
Certainly, if you've just ordered or bought the DHD then knowing there will be a better one out will hurt.
I'd be interested to know when it potentially would be released.

why would it hurt? htc release a new model every few months, if you have been buying HTC's as long as me you should be used to it, i bought my HTC nike and then the diamond came out, i bought the diamond and they release the HD, blah blah blah, if you buy the Desire HD2 no doubt within a few months a higher spec model will be released
Honestly, the specs aren't that much different!
1080p video recording? meh - and certainly if the 720p recording on the DHD is anything to go by, won't be anything special.
1.2GHz dual core? It's ok I suppose - but DHD does me proud at the moment and as long as I get no lag (and I don't really) then I'm fine with that.
Only real nice thing is the screen - but as we all know - screen specs are highly subject to change in the world of HTC!

3.3" screen? Must be a typo.
Still using the Adreno 205... Should have waited for the 220. DHD is supposed to be a flagship line.
Pretty poor, IMHO.
Wow, a lot of people here with a lot of money it would seem!!
If I'd just got the DHD I'd be pissed that this has been announced - fair enough a year after release but less than 6 months?
Well, those are not oficiall ofc and i don`t think sgs will use snapdragoon chips ;o but that qhd screen looks nice
Ahhhhhhhh I hate rumors...& here's why:
"As suspected, the Galaxy S 2 is said to run on a dual-core Qualcomm 8260 1.2GHz processor (not an Orion or Hummingbird, apparently)". Why would Samsung use Qualcomm? Look at the table here to better understand:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semiconductor_sales_leaders_by_year
The RAM is said to be 512...down from 768 Mb. Does that make sense?
Anyway, lets wait & see. MWC is a few days away.
RAWWWWR THE SCREEN IS NOT HD! HD is 1280 x 720 (720p) or 1920 x 1080 (1080p).
960 x 540 is 16:9 widescreen. but not HD. I wish, when specifically talking about screen resolutions, that companies wouldn't just drop "HD" on everything to drum up hype.
As with all technology, what you buy today, will be out of date by the time you have got it home and turned it on. This will always be the case. if you were waiting for the latest bit of kit, you would never buy anything.
I got the Desire, and have upgraded to the DHD. I dont see myself changing phones again for at least 12 months. Unless something really cool comes out
something wrong with this leak
galaxy S2 will never have a snapdrogon, samsung makes their own SOC
as for the dual snapdragon on the htc handsets, well it doesnt make sense either to have the old desire HD adreno 205
dual core snapdragons, gen 3, are coming with adreno 220, its in one chipset
equaly no way desire 2 is coming with the same old CPU/GPU
this is crazy
To be honest if that's the new desire, I'm not impressed. I think this is positive for us dhd users because with the release of this phone they should also release the gingerbread sense to dhd. If they don't it will till be applied by the great minds here at xda.

samsung dont make there own, just like every arm cortex cpu, its made for them by texas instruments, and it's quite conceivable that they would try qualcomm cpu's. as far as computing goes as a whole, its rare for a manufacturer to stick with one h/w company, all the big laptop and pc companies use both intel and AMD cpu's. so its only natural that smartphone manufacturers are sooner or later going to try the same thing

There is no way you can have MSM8260 and Adreno 205. Ask Qualcomm or just visit their site and read about the 3rd gen chips (something the "professional" mobile reviewers obviously find very difficult - they seem to write more articles than they read ). I personaly don't trust anything that comes from these sites, because their "news" are just rummors and their reviews are always biased on the brand that gives them pre-launch phones (ever wondered why GSMArena never gets HTC units before the launch and always find their phones inferior to Samsung?)

The Samsung/Qualcomm issue does point to this article being nothing more than a rumor, but still, if only a few of the specs can be realised I actually cannot wait for the Desire HD2!!! I had been interested in maybe moving to a Samsung device if these 4.3inch Super Amoled's hit the market, but the superior resolution would have me all over the HTC.
I can see it being a kick in the teeth for some possibly, but there are some of us here who think nothing of buying new phones every few months and shamefully, I am one of those fools!
Cannot wait for MWC.

SoC in new GT 10.1

Hi,
since at this point it is unknown whatever updated 10.1 will still run on Tegra 2 or something else (Exynos 4201) I would appreciate your opinion on this matter.
What do you think will be inside?
If two versions will be available which one will you buy?
Of you hear any thing new in this subject - please post here.
Since Tegra 2 has some limitations (video playback) I personally hope it will run on Samsung's own SoC, will play all video formats and divix/xivid with DLNA and playback from SD will work beautifully.
I have an issue with Sammy using their own chip for one reason. When every other phone was running a Qualcomm chip and the Galaxy phones were using Hummingbird chips, there was some optimization in the android code that was not included for Samsung chips.
Since Honeycomb has been built around the Tegra 2 chip, I fear the same thing will happen.
Don't believe HC was built around Tegra2...hence the reason for no Dual-Core spec requirement. Hell, it's up and running on devices of all sorts as we speak.
I want Tegra games more than support for h.264 high profile video playback.
So, I want Tegra

If you want games you should wait for a SONY tablet ;-)
Why do you assume that it will have a worse performance in games than Tegra 2?
I think that it will be better than T2 in both cases.
BTW: thera are gossips of new Moto tablet coming out around fall with T3 (QUad core Tegra) inside...

Assuming he's talking about the PS3 and TegraZone games that require a Tegra chip. Other chips could probably play them, but think Nvidia has it so they look specifically for the Tegra chip.
Not that gaming is my main priority, but I saw all those "Tegra optimized" games on the Tegra Zone.
They are all nice games
It will be sucks if they don't perform as expected on non-Tegra tablet.
Because as I said, I could care less with that H.264 high profile. I can still "convert" them or stream (via future app ala AirPlay on iOS).

More than likely, Samsungs SoC will be nearly identical to the Ipad 2's A5 SoC, which has already shown to be several times faster in the gfx department vs a Tegra 2.
Also, the Tegra 2 is missing the NEON optimizations in most other A9 SoC's.
So I put my vote toward Samsung's SoC.

There were news reports that Google was going to make Tegra 2 the reference platform for Honeycomb but that never happened. Now it looks like Google is working with LG to come out with a Nexus tablet this summer so it'll be interesting to see what they are putting in that.
Personally I hope Samsung steers clear of Tegra 2 and goes with their own SoC.
Isn't LG already releasing the G-Slate? Are they gonna release another one in the summer? Thats just not a great strategy me thinks.

Besides Touchwiz, I say it depends on how you're going to use it. If I decide to get a tablet, it'll most likely be the new Galaxy Tab because (I'm going to assume here) that it'll most likely play any video and audio format I throw at it. I think that's the big difference (codecs) between the two as of now besides Touchwiz.

If true that would be the best news of the current tablet season as Tegra 2 sucks BIG TIME!
I would also want to know.... how close in design is Apple A5 (the one in iPad 2) by Samsung to Exynos by Samsung
I wouldn't mind if it had their proprietary SoC as what really matters in these tablets is the GPU. It seems the T2 chipset is getting a bit long-in-the-tooth despite not being heavily utilized yet. If Samsung is pairing with the Adreno 220 then that's better than the Tegra 2.

Why would they add an adreno 220, when a Mali-400 would be a lot better? Seems like an odd choice to me. Also that prototype is running Tegra 2(assuming it's the same device that's been shown off at other venues).
Maybe we'll see the Adreno 220s on the SGSII as well?
Wasn't the prototype just a 10.1v?
@Toss3
Presumably, the SGS2 will be equipped the dual-core Exynos clocked at 1.2GHz. I say "presumably" because, just like now, Samsung hasn't revealed the true name of the processor, only the clock speed.
Oddly enough, there will also be a Tegra 2 version of the SGS2.

The Atrix wins overall. No question about it.

Extra cores do not necessarily translate to win. Tegra is awesome, but has its limits, which are far more apparent than in the new Galaxy 2, which appears to be the most powerful Android phone to date.
YAY! 8 CORE GPU! what ever that means? lol
as far as i know. the SGS2 oxynes or whatever its called is more powerful than tegra 2.
not my much tho.
however Nvidia has an advantage of Tegra zone. games specific to take advantages of the Tegra 2.
and that alone is way better than playing the same game the nexus S plays well only smoother.
this makes Tegra 2 a better GPU imho hands down. but not the most powerful.

Its called Exynos, and NO, the reports out there peg the Tegra 2 to be better clock for clock.
Why do you think Samsung overclocked the Exynos to 1.2Ghz? To be competitive, because at 1Ghz it wasn't.
Samsung has won the Quadrant war for the moment, but lets see what the Tegra 2 overclocked to 1.2Ghz (unlock that bootloader damit!) and with AOS 2.3.3 can do. And the hardware war can't be won on just a SAMOLED+ screen thats still can't be viewed in direct sunlight, and is heavily pixelated at 4.3" & 800x480 resolution (I certainly prefer qHD).
The Geforce ULV GPU in the Tegra 2 SoC is based on the Nvidia Geforce 6 series GPU architecture from 2004.
Computer GPU's at the time where still using "pipelines" before introduction of "unified shaders" (those are easier to be called multi-core) with the release of the nvidia G80 GPU in late 2006.
Piplines architecture has dedicated instructions shaders (nvidia like to call them cores for marketing reasons and to piss off Intel!) for each of pixel and vertex processing tasks. A GPU of this kind can't help itself if the load was heavier at one side of those tasks.
Where in "unified shaders" architecture those shaders can morph to handle any instructions tasks based on the load.
So it's more correctly to say the nvidia GPU in the Atrix has 8 shaders, But and it's a big BUT.. 4 of them must be preserved for the pixel processing and the other 4 must be preserved for vertex processing.

Why would i sell a Cortex A9 CPU equipped device for a much slower Cortex A8 CPU equipped device?
The ONLY thing the Tegra unit has that the Exynos doesn't is official support for the Tegra zone games, games i dont play (and can be played with CFs driver anyway). In every other way the Exynos unit beats the Tegra one.

So if it's the GT-I9103, it must be the one gsmarena promoted as the Samsung Galaxy Z which can't be compared to SII specs wise.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i9103_galaxy_z-3967.php
I think they're two different phones for different markets. The Tegra SGS2 is a carrier phone so I'm guessing Samsung won't distribute it themselves. Samsung said all along they wouldn't have enough Exynos chips for worldwide distribution and initial talk was that Tegra would be sent to developing countries along with a S-LCD screen. Interesting that they chose to send it to the U.S. It's cheaper and the quantities the U.S. needs probably would have been more than Exynos production could keep up with. Or maybe AT&T was looking for a bargain. The Atrix and O2X/G2X are on Tegra so it'll be interesting to see how Samsung's use of it performs. It's been pretty disappointing (except for gaming) so far.
i9103 is the Galaxy Z.

If they go for anything larger than the S3 they can forget about me buying that.
S3's size is utterly ridiculous (can't find many people who can 100% interact with it with only one hand), anything larger that that will be just sad.
Only thing left is to pray to the electronics god that Google makes their next Nexus in the size of the current one / S2's! can't imagine a better phone size, bigger than the tiny iPhone (yea, talking about the new fella) but easy to play with using one hand only.
if only the'll be able to also make it Super AMOLED Plus (like the S2's non-PenTile, but with S3's resolution).
S4 might not have a screen larger than S3 since the current size distinction gives proper difference between the S and Note lines. If size goes beyond 4.8 will impact sales of either of them.

May I ask, why Nvidia GPU? I should say that most benchmarks say that our mali-400mp4 clocked at 266mhz is just as powerful as the full clocked tegra 3 gpu variant, plus we have a much lower resolution screen than any tegra 3 powered deice I have ever seen, meaning our device can end up playing better games that quite a few of the devices with the tegra chip in it. Like with full effects enabled on dead trigger, it is so much smoother than my nexus 7 with it's gpu overclocked from 416mhz to 520mhz. Personally I would take the overclocked 440mhz mali-400mp4 in the s3 anyday over any nividia GPU. Althoug, the gpu going to be used in some of the new exynos 5 chips which should power the s4, looks incredible.

Pfff......The exynos 4212 and MALI 400MP still kicks tegra 3 a** and the S4 will have a exynos 5250 with mali t604 which is a total BEAST.

Because I saw my friends Nexus 7 which played dead trigger more finely and smoother(Even mine was smoother ) so i thought tegra would be nice. Is S4 confirmed?
Like I give a ****.
Seriously, the longer I wait for Jelly Bean, the more I want a Nexus.
Besides that I hope they won't make the screen any bigger. Otherwise we'll run around with 11" smartphones and 17" tablets very soon.

Dead trigger is optimized from tegra 3 and the mali400 in s2 is a bit weaker from terga 3's gpu

well samsung wants to keep a one year product schedule so its not news, but this reports states the phone will be 5 inches from 4.8, i wonder if the note will be bigger
According to Sammobile latest news, Samsung denied an S IV release in february or march. Link from source: http://sammyhub.com/2012/09/18/samsung-debunks-galaxy-s-iv-rumor/. Another link is http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_responds_to_galaxy_s_iv_rumors_debunks_them-news-4819.php
If someone released a 4inch Nexus with good hardware and a solid build I'd be all over it like a rash.
Instead the phones are getting too big and too ugly. I've never had an iPhone but I can see the appeal. You invest in an iPhone 5 now and you're guaranteed long term software support and your device maintains its value. I'm sick of all these phones coming out that feel outdated and forgotten in 6 - 12 months. Who do you hear saying "don't buy an iphone 5 the iphone 6 is coming out next year".

Sadly you're kinda right.
I've already made my decision. My next phone will be a Nexus, period.
I could forgive the longer wait for updates, if I'd actually use them. At the moment the only reason I'm waiting for updates is because the cm team can make a proper one with those.
There is only one manufacturer that does great modifications to android, but those phones aren't available here. :'(

News that the successor to the successor to the GT-I9100 might or might not be announced at Barcelona in 6 months doesn't really belong in this forum.
