[Q] Puzzle Piece Unlock Slider Info - Continuum General

Hey everyone!
So I am on a Rooted and Rom'ed X, and my friend has the Continuum, I really like the unlock slider puzzle piece. I was curious if anyone could copy me the /system files of the root, not /sdcard/system/, I want /system. I would take /sdcard/system though, beggars can't be choosers. Anyway, I plan on hanging around here and formally introducing myself. Thanks, in advance.

You can get a deodexed and cleaned up rom (/system) over here

Thanks for the info. Some folks are working on it now. Hope to have the puzzle piece slider soon for the X.

I love this device!!

SO it will be entirely too much work to port this to DX unless someone really wants to. Maybe one day...

[q] noob tube to root or not to root

Hey all,
Have some extra time today and i'm thinking about rooting my hero...
I'm not as tech savvy as the crowd that runs in these circles, nor do I have the experience or knowledge to do anything except ask for help, which is why i'm apprehensive to begin with...like jumping into a pool without knowing how to swim.
I've been scanning this pool for about a week though and there seems to be some very cool things, primarily tethering and tweaks that can get a guy more than 4 hours of batt life.
Any comments out there fer a guy like me? Or am I just wasting your time and mine? Any of you suggest the best ROM for someone not looking for a hassle? How about tether?
BTW...I'm not a total leech, I would be willing to help with a donation if the **** works.
Thanks guys, many of you are incredible in this sandbox that you play in.
You should totally root; it gives you MAJOR speed improvements and such. Cyanogenmod 6 is also very nice and smooth . You get to really customize your hero, to the exact way you'd like it! If for some reason you don't like it, just RUU back (google it, hehe)
Hoped this helped you a bit!
Oh, edit:
CM6 has tethering built in.

Go for the root..then the fun really begins..
2.1 or 2.2...you will have to figure out what you want..
I went 2.2 and don't miss any of the sense stuff, but since I am rooted..I can always change back if I wanted to. Go take a look at all of the cool screen shots of what folks have been doing..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584379 That should ease you feet into the pool..it did mine..
Good Luck

The elusive locked bootloader

Okay so I've got a theory about Motorola encrypted bootloaders like the ones on DX and Milestone. What I'm looking for is definitive information on the droid x lockout mechanism. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of a broken DX to utilize for this experiment please let me know. It involves a hardware based process so a complete functional phone is not necessary. This method has been known to work with RSA encryption so it shows promise. Thank you.
MrKaz
From what I've heard, the "key" so to speak, in burned into the CPU itself. Its my understanding the only true way to unlock the BL is with Moto's keys, which we wont be getting any time soon. Whatever your plan is, I wish you the best. But we've had roughly 20+ of these threads come and go on here with everyone thinking they can crack it, and nothing ever pans out. Its a matter of the right people with knowledge and the right equipment to do the job, but those things have just not come together yet.
Once again, I wish you the best!
You may want to contact @aliasxerog, @_mrbirdman_, and/or @nenolod on twitter as they have all worked on trying to break/circumvent the bootloader. @P3Droid may be knowledgeable as well.
Yeah, I realize there's been a lot of threads on this. Having read a good deal of them I've determined that for the most part the consensus is that it can't be done, or at least not by any brute force means. However, I'm interested in other ways like signal injection and other hardware based avenues. After all, it is a chip and chips have flaws... Maybe I don't know enough to realize what it would take, and maybe being too stupid to understand that it can't be done is exactly what is required...
Thanks for all your input

MrKaz,
+1 to your idea. Hey, who knows what will work.. with all that is going on, I wouldn't be surprised if the one idea that works..is some off the wall idea such as a chip flaw... Go for it man... I say take the idea and run with it.
best of luck
Your idea is one that I have been working on. All that needs to happened is find a way to dump the info to a computer and resign or make a dummy key to patch and inject back in.. unfortunately I have yet been able to inject anything because once dumped and cleared it doesn't regonize still active.. blah DX

Is this the electron starvation method that you speak of? From my understanding, that's a server exploit. Not really useful for a DX.

Boooooooooooooooo...
_mrbirdman_ & nenolod dropped the ball and jumped ship.
P3Droid is better at BS and espionage than development. I mean, who actually uses tranquility? Or hasn't been bricked by it? Beside, what's been the biggest draw TBH has had to their app? The tether patch? If you were me, you'd be LYAO... LOL
As for @aliasxerog, from what I've seen, I've got very little faith that his efforts will pan out. Unless he stops looking to the above mentioned "devs", and starts working with the milestone guys. Especially yakk, who's probably done the most work on the kexec kernel module(Funny, aliasxerog's src makes no mention. He just says he ported it from the milestone efforts.). Yakk hasn't even released all of his code for kexec, so what aliasxerog is working with is incomplete, and certainly not up-to-date. His source doesn't even compile. Not even on my trusty build system that built the first DX overclock kernel module for Froyo, which jumped off JRummy's DX career(Jared didn't even bother to say "hey, mind if I use the module you built?"). Gotta love the DX devs! They bring so much laughter into my life!
.....
With that said, MrKazman, good luck in your efforts.

You may want to take a look at this. I think it's about the milestone, but it is similar to if not the same as the droid x

Update
I'm getting more and more familiar with this situation every day. I'm also starting to realize what a big problem this is. I've spent a good deal of time pouring over the work they're doing with the Milestone which is kind of the same thing but isn't. Nonetheless I applaud the work they do and donate my CPU to Androinc. After that I've been reading and collecting every Block Diagram, Datasheet, Whitepaper, and post about mbmloader, m-shield, omap, and the like. Yeah, its complicated alright. The fact is though that its just a lock. A lock is a system based on deterrent not prevention. Systems built for mass production have accepted flaws to keep costs down. Chips aren't perfect, code is not perfect. Use the weakness against the system and the lock is picked. The more complex the system the more chances to get in....
Eh, I digress...
Anyone wanting to learn more about this let me know.
The search continues....

Motorola, I paid for the Hardware. I can handle my own software and security...
The Bootloader has been bypassed, its just that the custom kernel has no drivers to run.

If this is anything like any other locked software, it's based around asymmetric encryption: Motorola HQ has a super-secret key that they use to encrypt their bootloaders, and they put the decryption key on every device, so that only things that are encrypted with their key will be decrypted correctly. The only way we're going to get the encryption key is by sleeping with the CEO of Motorola. It is - by design - not on the device.
The only way to replace the bootloader would be to replace the decryption key with one of our own or by bypassing it completely(using a buffer overflow or something similar).
As much as I want to believe that this can be done, its close to impossible and honestly not worth the persons time to try it, they did a good, well great, job of locking this thing down but ill say that liberty actually makes this feel like a new phone.

Buying girlfriend Dx tomorrow..

I am the current owner of a Fascinate, rooted/romed ect, and I'm planning on getting the girl a Droid X tomorrow. Been cruising this section for a few days now lurking, and I'm still utterly blown away by the seemingly endless Rom choices. We want to root her new phone and I'd love to try and keep it as stock as possible. Looking for wireless tethering and some sort of Pepto Pink theme. I read something about some sort of boot loader, no clue what that is, but seems like something I need to look into.
I'm very familiar with Rom Manager, and flashing custom roms on my Fascinate, but the lack of Dev. on the SGS makes for very clear easy choices on what roms/kernels to flash. I'm not asking for a spoon feeding, just possibly some basic information on what to research and maybe some links of information to read up on.
Thanks in advance!
Aside from rooting... you want to look into the app droid x bootstrapper by koush google it or download it from the market... after that then decide what rom you want to use... don't worry about kernels we can't flash custom kernels cuz of the locked bootloader (i think)....there are guides all over this forum...
Aside from your keeping it stock as possible.... there are roms that keep some blur aspects and others that are more aosp... i personally use apex...

To ALL the Developers here on XDA

I think what I'm going to say here is long over-due.
I want to give a very sincere Thank You to each and every Developer here on XDA who has contributed to helping make our devices better in every way. I've never been one to push devs into working faster than they are - All the goodies you all bring to us here on XDA will come when they are ready, and 99% of the time, its WELL worth waiting for!! The devs who make this possible don't do this for us because they HAVE to, or because they are PAID to..... In fact, that couldn't be farther from the truth. What the devs do for us, they do purely because they ENJOY doing what they do. THANK YOU!!! Without all of you Developers, we would not have root access, we would not have awesome themes, we would not have custom kernels and roms, we would not have CyanogenMod 7. Simply put - we'd have an Atrix, just as it was out of the box, save for a case and a screen protector. I'm just one person on this site who truly understands the work it takes to bring us everything you all have brought us. Long hours of frustration, wanting to rip out your hair and teach the Atrix how to fly, many soft-bricks, bootloops, and the occasional hard-brick. You guys sacrifice a lot of your own personal free time to create all the things we have for our Atrix, and if you sit back and look at what you've all accomplished - its actually pretty incredible! Look back to Feb, we had half-assed root, and a bootloader locked down tighter than a nun. 7 months later, we have unlocked bootloaders, full fledged custom roms/kernels, CM7... wow.
So again - to ALL the Developers who have contributed to all this... THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally agree! Thanks to all!!!
+1
Most or us wouldn't be able to enjoy our phones if it wasn't for you guys.
It's not just for the hard work & info, its also for the time and PATIENCE that you guys have with everyone here...

Agreed. I actually sold this phone for an Infuse and ended up buying another Atrix because of how good the dev scene is.
No disrespect to Infuse devs of course.
im glad at least a few people agree!
Thanks Dev's I really do appreciate all the work you do
Yes, the dev work for atrix is incredible. I have never found a phone easier to root, unlock bootloader, install cwm, flash theme, etc..
absolutely flawless.
